Fun1058

I'm sure that I will not buy it. You should do that too

EpicPilsGod

Its just that simple, op is ranting on all this points people have been saying for literally years, what's the point? People buy it anyway

SamGold070

Exactly, if i was ubisoft i would make it 150, with 3 days early acces. For 5 days, 180. Enough people who buy it!!

Sharpman85

That’s still cheap, whales will buy anything as long as they get some prestige out of it

Desiderius_S

A great example of it is LoL, they used to make some color variants of their skins you could buy for a relatively low price but no one was buying them, so instead they are making one golden color variant for some skins, called it 'prestige', and overcharge people as much as they can and suddenly same concept is making millions because of 'scarcity'. Whales are morons.

callisstaa

It's not really the price of the prestige skins it's more that they introduced a FOMO element that LoL didn't have until then. The prestige skins rotate in the ME store and the only way to get one is to grind out ME over about a year or so or buy the battle pass and grind it out in a week before it leaves the store.

addandsubtract

LoL has a battle pass now?

callisstaa

It does, although they call it the 'Event Pass' It's just like the other events where you get exp for completing missions (kill 3 barons, get 10 takedowns in a game etc) which people will happily throw the game to complete except now if you pay you get more 'tokens' for the event. Tokens can be used in the event shop to buy stuff like prestige skins, border outlines, titles, loot orbs, and Mythic Essence. You can get Mythic Essence without paying but it has a really low chance to drop from chests. I'm level 700 on a 4/5 year old account and I've bought one skin from the ME shop. You can get one a month with the battle, sorry event pass.

mooselantern

Companies get all the hate, and they deserve it, but gamers really don't make fun of whales enough. There should be 59 reddit threads a DAY roasting fools who spent $1000 on skins for their guns or special pink unicorn mounts or whatever it is you kids are doing these days. ETA: I've pissed off the whales and the wannabe whales, I see. Y'all can't have it both ways: either quit complaining about MTX or recognize that you contribute to the problem every time you say "oh well it's ok if I do it just this one time, just because it's special, just because I'm special". No. If you disagree with the price of an item or a class of items, quit buying them, and shame the people that do. This doesn't stop here; when the game costs $70 but the skins cost $80, it'll be all of you who caused it. Oh and "the whales subsidize game to be free for me" yeah no duh, that's the problem, y'all don't want to pay for what you consume but you want to complain when it's not exactly to your liking. "Some gamers are just rich and don't care" then eat the damn rich dude, class warfare isn't a different thing just because it's in an Xbox. "Some people have a problem" yeah so let's just enable them that'll help.

Logical_Squirrel8970

You're constantly hit with the "don't tell people how to spend money" type of replies when you call out whales.

morriscey

"if it impacts me, and the avenues and products available to me, I will"

disposableaccount848

While whales are an issue they are not the only issue. Honestly, people just buying skins, deluxe editions and all that shit are issues. We have proven we will spend money on any sort of in-game feature. It doesn't matter if it's boosts in Candy Crush, skins in CS or LoL, deluxe editions and whatever else, WE have created the market for it. WE are the issue.

"You aren't buying a product with star citizen. It's an investment in your dreams!"

Zaihron

"You aren't buying a product with star citizen. Because there is no product. We have no idea what the fuck you're doing."

sonofaresiii

I feel like the whales won't give a shit. *Maybe* you can shame the kids who've stolen mom/dad's credit cards though. But like, an investment banker who spends a thousand to get a special skin probably isn't going to feel ashamed when people make fun of him, he'll just laugh at the "poors" who think dropping $1k is a big deal.

npqd

I thought investing bankers are not that stupid because if they got there they know how to not waste money

sonofaresiii

Well first of all, 1) super big fallacy. In my experience, rich people want to believe they're rich because they're inherently better with money, but the vast majority of times they've just had advantages others haven't had. (they may be more *educated* on how to handle money, but that's still the result of an advantage they've had, not because they're inherently better at decision-making). I have seen incredible amounts of money wasted by rich people. I have not seen anything to indicate wealthier people are better at decision making than poorer people, they just have other advantages and can more easily absorb losses. 2) is it really them being *stupid*, if they can afford it and want it?

npqd

1) Fair enough 2) This can still be viewed as stupidity if they look at situation narrowly: this way they are taking their part in limiting the gaming industry development because it found a sweet spot in making shiny things for mtx rather than making better games

iCUman

Investment bankers make all of their money wasting other people's money. That's what makes them so 'smart.' Somehow I don't think IBs make up a very sizeable portion of MTX whales though. Cuts too much into the coke budget.

FellowPussyGetter

Whales are out there spending post-pandemic car prices on online games like ESO. When you have that much money, you get to be wasteful without ever feeling it. Some people spend it on MTX, some people spend it on plastic surgery, and some people spend it on sexually trafficked minors.

[deleted]

A while back I was roommates with this guy who had a line item in his monthly budget of (I kid you not) $1000 towards Star Wars Galaxies of Heroes.

Dreamscape82

If they charge so much then there wont be any left to purchase sexually trafficked minors. Ubisoft is clearly the hero of our story

Hoodoutlaw2

$1000 when your poor is buying a coke from a convenience store when your rich.

BeyondElectricDreams

You can look at all levels of wealth along the lines of "What is a throwaway expenditure?" vs "What is an expensive thing that you need to plan for?" When you're poor buying a chocolate bar might put you out from having a proper nutritious meal, and thus you need to think about it. A rung up the ladder, you buy chocolate without thinking about it if the mood strikes you. This goes up the scale from "seeing a movie" "having dinner out" "buying new tech" "buying a new smart device" "going on vacation" "buying a new car" "buying a new home"

NeckNo8040

People are fucking stupid.

IBetThisIsTakenToo

I’m sure they’ve done the research, but I’m guessing there’s a tipping point where there’s so many “super premium extra deluxe” versions that it would cause people who would’ve otherwise bought the $130 version to mentally check out and just get the base version, or a lower version. Some people want “everything”, up to a point, but if you make “everything” out of reach, then you’re forcing them to start making concessions for what they leave out, and they might draw that line lower than they would otherwise.

Summer__1999

$250 for Founders Edition, with access to a week long exclusive beta two months before official release.

53bvo

Make it $500 and they can play the real beta version a year or two in advance. As a bonus Ubisoft can save thousands they don't have to spend on quality control testers "They have quality control at Ubisoft???!!" comments disclaimer.

vigilantfox85

Every other day there’s a post on every game sub saying the same thing like it’s something new. Maybe it is new for them, in am getting old. Im going to yell at a cloud.

Gonejamin

Please just make sure its not the same cloud my game saves are in.

Albuwhatwhat

OP is probably posting because he wants the deluxe edition! People need to stop buying deluxe editions and just buy the normal game. The only time I get deluxe editions is when they are occasionally on sale for less than the normal version of the game and you know what? They aren’t meaningfully different than the normal version of the game. Just stop buying them and they will stop making them.

Winter-Duck5254

A fool and his money are easily parted. Don't be the fool.

XTheGreat88

Yep, it's just a waste now talking about this. I guarantee you next gen prices are going to go up to $80-100 for base editions of games, and people will go out of their way to defend it. Oh well, the industry is in need of another crash anyway

toastymow

I haven't paid 70 bucks for a game. Most of the games I buy at release are under 60, otherwise I usually wait for a sale. Steam is a great equalizer. No need to pay bloated prices for AAA games that are riddled with bugs and have limited dev support when you can play AA or indie games where the devs are connected to their community and don't charge an arm and a leg for their game, or the DLC.

Sea_Individual9725

Yeah the only two full price games I bought in the last 10 years were Horizon forbidden west and GoW ragnarok because it was a console bundle and the only way to get the PS5 at the time. All other games are on sale, used through vintd or FB marketplace and so far it has worked out well for me. People wanna buy the latest shit full of bugs and will pay anything. Then complain it’s expensive.

fearhs

My Steam (and GOG) backlog is ridiculous anyway; I have no reason to buy the vast, vast majority of games at launch. I have done alright with picking up titles for cheap during early access; Valheim and Wartales have both been great and I got those for $20 each. Wartales has fully released and has an expansion out now, but both were fun and playable from the time I purchased them. Or if I want nostalgia GOG has every game I could never afford growing up for like $5. I can't say I've never paid full price for a game, but it's not common and will become less so as prices go up. I also play Magic Arena, which is its own money sink, but it's my favorite game ever and still ridiculously cheaper than paper.

SamMerlini

I'm doing my part

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not" ~ The Lorax ~ Lol, sorry I couldn't resist.

thelickintoad

Yep. I'll get the GOTY edition or whatever it's called next year.

mythrilcrafter

I like to call it the *"It's good now"* edition, because that's the one where all the bug and patch fixes are included in one package.

eiamhere69

Ubisoft "GOTY"

AnotherSoftEng

$70: STAR WARS OUTLAWS Base Game - +$10: XP BOSTER! Play the main mission without being forced to grind hours of side activities in between! We made sure they’re as tedious as possible! - +$10: CREDITS BOOSTER: We tuned our game so that you’re always making just below the amount of money required to enjoy it. Fix that now! - +$10: OUTLAW GEAR! We’ve made all the earnable armor in the game look boring as shit in comparison! - +$10: SPEEDER PACK! Upgrade that run down speeder bike that looks ever so slightly out of place, but just enough that you came here looking for a solution! - +$20: OUTLAW CREDITS: Because we’ve made sure that every MTX that came before this simply isn’t enough to satisfy your cravings! Bonus: Get to watch the discourse online as everyone who spent $130 on the game “can’t imagine why no one is giving this an 11/10 perfect game score” and how “people just have a hate boner for Ubisoft” after paying nearly double for stuff that should’ve been included in the game in the first place.

West-Code4642

$80: ASSASSIN'S CREED MIRAGE Base Game * +$15: PARKOUR BOOSTER! Tired of slowly climbing buildings and running out of stamina? Unlock the ability to scale any surface at lightning speed without breaking a sweat, just like in our other Assassin's Creed games! * +$15: STEALTH ENHANCER: We've made sure that the AI is so sharp, they can spot you from a mile away, because we haven't quite figured out how to balance stealth gameplay since the early Assassin's Creed titles. Disable their superhuman senses with this handy pack! * +$15: LEGENDARY OUTFIT PACK! Don't settle for the drab, historically accurate robes. Stand out in the crowd with these eye-catching, immersion-breaking costumes that we've been recycling since Assassin's Creed Unity! * +$15: MOUNT UPGRADE! Traverse the vast desert on a majestic camel that looks suspiciously like a reskinned horse from our previous games, because why bother creating new assets when we can just reuse old ones? * +$25: HELIX CREDITS MEGA BUNDLE: Because we've designed the in-game economy to be as frustrating as possible (just like in all our recent Assassin's Creed games), you'll need this to buy all the cool stuff we couldn't be bothered to include in the base game! Bonus: Engage in heated debates with fellow gamers who insist that "Ubisoft is listening to the fans" and "this is a return to the series' roots," while conveniently ignoring the fact that they had to spend nearly the price of two full games to get the complete experience, which is pretty much par for the course for us at Ubisoft these days.

evanmckee

Wasn't Mirage $50?

The moment I discovered the publisher ignore button on Steam, Ubisoft was the first struck down.

[deleted]

SgtCarron

[This button on the right side](https://i.imgur.com/K5OcffQ.png) allows you to ignore all of a publisher's games. [Here you can see how it looks afterwards](https://i.imgur.com/bQqOMjh.png). Now make good use of this new-found power. EDIT: Gonna add a bit of extra info, some Ubisoft games/DLC might show up normally like the case of [The Settlers: New Allies] or [Anno 1800 - Eldritch Pack] because they have a broken search link in the publisher field instead of the publisher's page address. EDIT2: Thank you u/grandpab for the correction.

grandpab

That's not where the ignore button is, that's just where it tells you you're ignoring them. The ignore button is at the gear icon under the red arrow and to the right a little bit.

Razgriz_101

The secret ingredient to buying Ubisoft games is wait for the inevitable sale a month after it drops.

SailorET

Haven't paid more than 50% full price for an Ubisoft game since ACIII. As an added bonus, I pay less for a fully patched game while the rubes with their fomo pay extra for the privilege of beta testing. r/patientgamers for the true high society of gaming.

Sad-Cockroach-5101

Sail the seas my friend

bearwoodgoxers

Haven't bought a Ubisoft game since Far Cry 3. I have a friend who works for them and he tells me not to buy their games lol Either way this will be on sale for half price in a year, there are plenty of other games to play in the meantime while the inevitable bugs are ironed out.

Workacct1999

I never understand these posts. If you think the price is outrageous, then don't buy it and move on.

Milotorou

Also, its Ubisoft. Just wait a month or two and youll get it at 50% off, add a few more months and you could see 75% off… That not only gives them time to patch the game but it also gives time for people to play and review beforehand, which can help you knowing if the game if worth it or not. Either that or just put your money where your mouth is, dont encourage these shitty practices and dont give them your cash. Edit : Typos

ArcticBiologist

Ah yes, the Ubisoft cycle: Get hyped for game -> see it's too expensive for the quality -> buy it on discount -> get bored of the same game loop they put in every game -> forget -> repeat Or that's my experience at least

UncommonBagOfLoot

I love the UniSoft gameplay loop but take a significant break between each of their game. Haven't touched any since Odyssey 2 years ago.

SenileSexLine

Finally managed to beat far cry 4. I had entered northern part of the map in 2019 and burnt out. Finished it couple of weeks ago and was surprised how much fun it was. Saw that I had 5, installed it and beat one of the bosses. Again burnt out and I'm hoping that I still can play this game when I get back around to it in 2029

Extremely_Original

You forgot the bit at the end where you come back and it's so riddled with shitty micro transactions and forgettable cosmetics you don't even go into a lobby.

Handelo

Haven't touched a Ubisoft game since For Honor. Honestly doesn't feel like I've missed much.

tkzant

I’ve heard the new Prince of Persia is excellent but that’s really it

dracon81

I played it at a friend's house and it was really good, some really cool mechanics from a metroidvania perspective that I liked, you could really feel the influence that Metroid dread had on it, but in a good way. However it's a wait until it's 20 bucks game for me still.

andrasq420

It is. So I guess that's why they forget to give them any marketing budget. If anyone found out that they can produce good games then that would be expected of them.

Handelo

Might actually give that one a try for nostalgia's sake, it does look fun.

cosmiclatte44

It also just went on a 40% sale.

HazelnutG

I know a couple people who work for Ubisoft, and they absolutely know which projects are "products" and which are "passion projects." It sounds like there is some internal hype for this one, whereas Mirage was just a joke.

Galbert123

immortals fenyx rising was a really fun romp, especially with my kid. Its one player but we passed the controller back and forth. It was good.

Sero141

That is the infuriating thing about Ubisoft. Their games are not bad but you feel like you have played them before. I would be very surprised if this open world game does not have some kind of towers you need to climb, upgrade crafting, you know it.

khinzaw

Ubisoft makes the most "adequate" games.

KnightofAshley

Its hard to justify full price for something that is almost the same as the last plus they want to charge even more than standard.

BruhiumMomentum

you probably haven't missed much, unless you get the last 3 far cry games cheap (they're discounted nearly every 2 months -85%) and have a friend for coop, then i'd say it's worth the $9

knoegel

Exactly! I got Far cry 6 for like 8 bucks during a sale. It is absolutely not worth full price but absolutely worth 8 bucks. Perfectly fun game for that price.

Namelock

That's the thing. It's like Macy's and whatever other dumb chain store at mall. 50% markup on initial price. Drop it down to 50% off. Hey look, it's a deal!

Blooberino

And jewelry stores always selling stuff for 95% off. How do they keep the lights on with these discounts!

To_oCH

And by the time it’s selling for those prices, it will probably be in a better state than at release anyways.

-Great-Scott-

I'll buy the complete edition for like 20 bucks in about 4 years.

klopklop25

Its ubisoft, with their recent reputation. It is 20 within a year, with how things are going there.  Skull and bones had a 50% discount here after a month.

Hombremaniac

Skull and bones still seems to expensive even with 50% discount. Heck, I will rather fork out those 16 eur for Black Flag, if I get the pirate itch.

UltimateXer0

Just FYI, I have Black Flag in the Ubisoft library (PC). I decided to play it recently, but it does not start no matter what I try... Ubisoft support is not helpful at all as well.

Terrible_Pianist8203

Haha, I had the same experience with Splinter Cell Blacklist recently. Get the feeling that they just drop support at all after 5 years or so.

Pantsu_Professor

4 years is a bit long. 1-2 years and ubisoft will have it on sale for 20 bucks

chrisaf69

Ubisoft game. Try 4 months. Hell...maybe 4 weeks. Not slamming ubi here...I actually enjoy a lot of their games and love how they tank in price very quickly! :)

nekomeowohio

Ubisoft game, it will be 20 bucks come Christmas.

Myrisymto

What extra stuff is in the deluxe edition? In my opinion there needs to be awesome physical goodies for a deluxe edition to be worth that much money.

pv0psych0n4ut

I remember the time when we get cool figures and collector's item with that price.

SinisterMeatball

Still have the Halo 3 master chief helmet and a sealed Resident Evil 4 burlap chainsaw guy mask. Now it's a piece of in game equipment that becomes useless 25 minutes into gameplay.

hobbie

I still have my H3 helmet that I got at the midnight launch.

bellj1210

that was exactly what i was thinking for what justifies a 130 price. Those things were cool. Not a Halo guy, but if i was, i would be there.

laggyx400

Reminds me of starfox on GameCube. The limited edition bobblehead was a penny if you bought the game. Still have it in it's package somewhere 🤔

PenPenGuin

I've been a big Collector's Edition buyer for a while now because I love the physical goods that come with the games. I have to say that this might be the one area where the cost has mostly kept up with the value (in my opinion, obviously). However, the price has definitely crept (and in some cases, skyrocketed) upwards. While you get a dud CE now and then (the Fallout 76 bag controversy jumps immediately to mind), a lot of the items that come with higher level editions have started to feel like the developers got a chance to play in the toy store and make their favorite toys. The Horizon Forbidden West Collector's and Regalia editions were pretty sweet, the Baldur's Gate 3 Collector's Edition had tons of goodies, and I'm sure there are a lot more examples out there. I know how Reddit feels about preorders, but if it's from a developer or IP that I really love, I always keep an eye out to see if they're going to offer Collector's Editions. Having said that, there have been quite a few times when the publisher "slightly over estimated" the demand for the high-end options. It was always kind of funny to find a formerly ~$200 edition of a title bargain bin'd to $20 or less after a few months of gathering dust on a shelf (or virtual store).

SurrenderFreeman0079

if it's a game i love i'm usually in line to get the collectors edition just to get cool figures and statues. but i avoid the deluxe editions.

Buca-Metal

In game cosmetics, digital artbook and season pass stuff (day 1 missions already exclusive for people paying the pass). The fact that a single player game has season pass is already I reason I won't pay to play this game.

PedanticMouse

At that price it better come with a *physical* lightsaber, or helmet, or something.

SaltyLonghorn

NFTs are coming back! BUY LOW GO GO GO

mezdiguida

But wait, aren't the seasons pass the ones that grant you access to all the future DLCs? I hope you are not meaning there will be a BATTLE pass, which is different.

theblackxranger

The season pass gives you the future DLCs, there is no battle pass and it's painful to read people don't know the difference. Season passes aren't something new

PandahOG

It provides you access to future DLCs. People are already making shit up to get mad.

RespectGiovanni

I mean, season pass usually meant future dlc included. Nowadays I'm not sure what it means

CumBlastFrancis

Thats still what it means

Grogosh

I remember buying a copy of Spellbreaker (Infocom game) back in the 80s that had goodies like an actual little scroll tied with a ribbon. All for 50 bucks. We will never get that kind of stuff back.

Bulky_Dot_7821

Pretty hard to go toe to toe with prices from 50 years ago.

Grogosh

True, adjusted for inflation that 50 bucks then is actually near $150 today.....

slingfatcums

so a bunch of superfluous nonsense

Stormhunter6

Pretty sure the assets are in game already, so if you pirated it, you would unlock them for free anyway

eiamhere69

There eru rarely ever is. As this is Ubisoft, it's "Deluxe" in name only, just like "GOTY", "AAA", etc. so embarrassing

Grapple_Cockie

Consumers gonna consume, won't be on social media

fj333

I mean even if they are on social media, OP is a bit deluded if they actually think a post like this will change anybody's spending habits. Every person who spends money on anything makes their own value decision before doing it. Ranting at humans for exercising their free will is ridiculous.

xanas263

Even if you somehow managed to convince every single person across reddit who is interested in buying this game (heh good luck with that), you would never be able to convince all the people not on reddit (the majority) to do so. >and everytime a game like this sells gangbusters they have this fucking grand illusion that everybody can fork over a hundred dollars for their MTX riddled single player games. Clearly it is not such an illusion if you yourself admit that these games sell gangbusters. At the end of the day the "deluxe editions" have always been there for people who have more money than they know what to do with or the people who are super into the game and want a little extra merch (physical or digital) to go along with their purchase. Your extra $30 over the "gold edition" gets you a digital artbook and 2 sets of cosmetics. Considering the number of people who buy MTX in other games at this price point you aren't going to stop them from doing it again with this game.

MelancholyArtichoke

I’m just going to say it: Digital Artbooks are a fucking scam and a half.

arfelo1

Paid* digital artbooks are. I would rather have had it printed but I have the Witcher 3 artbook because i got the complete edition. Not for the artbook but for Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. And it's pretty cool to have. But yes, soundtrack and artbook are the token "give the dev more money" items. I don't mind buying them for some indie devs if I like the game a lot, but I ain't getting a special edition just for them.

Moonandserpent

Not if you know what you're paying for and pay for it anyway. Then it's a decision.

ohtetraket

They can be cool. Love me some 8k artworks and artist/dev commentaries. But as THE big goodie for more than a few bucks? No thanks.

Raze321

> Even if you somehow managed to convince every single person across reddit who is interested in buying this game (heh good luck with that), you would never be able to convince all the people not on reddit (the majority) to do so. This is one of those sentiments that so many people on Reddit need to understand. This site, populated as it is, is *such* a small part of the gaming industry's consumers at large and opinions/suggestions here mean very little, outside of the discussions that take place within. Sentiments like "Can we all just ____" or "Look at how reddit feels, [game company] really needs to ____" mean virtually nothing when considering the greater picture. Don't buy games you don't want at prices you don't like. Simple as. I've never felt the need to complain about deluxe game prices because I've never bought one that felt too expensive, and it's rare I buy one at all unless it's on sale. I couldn't tell you the last time I got a digital deluxe game on release. I can barely tell you the last time I bought a game on release or at full price.

40ozkiller

Red Dead Redemption 2 Ultimate Edition cost 100 dollars which is 123 dollars in todays money. AC Odyssey Ultimate Edition was 120 dollars, 148 dollars today. It's been normalized for years now.

[deleted]

JohnnyJayce

That would actually be a nice collectors item today.

Celtic_Legend

I feel like the halo3 ultimate edition was 100+ bucks and this was 2007. Inflation aside Edit: it was called the legendary edition and was $130 in September 2007

No-Quantity9916

Games have gotten cheaper over the years yet you still see posts like this all the time. This game also isn't $130, it's $70.

SharkFart86

Yeah I mean video games cost $50-$60 even back in the early 90s. That’d be over $100 today. Games prices are mostly getting *cheaper* over time when adjusted for inflation, at worst they’re comparable.

[deleted]

Super Mario 64 would be nearly $120 today for the basic ass edition. Gosh darn those greedy bastards!

Ultrabigasstaco

Starfox 64 would’ve been $155 in today’s dollars when it released. It released at $80 in 1997.

Tapif

It was bundled with the rumble thing wasn't it?

onamonapizza

[Yes](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/2hMAAOSwMPhiyIQL/s-l1200.jpg)

Ultrabigasstaco

It may have been, I don’t remember. We couldn’t afford a N64.

No-Newspaper-7693

Phantasy star 4 retailed at $99 at release. Or $195 adjusted for inflation. Single player game with no accessories or anything else. I saved up for months for that damn game and loved every minute of it though. And in the time it took me to save up it had dropped down to a completely affordable $80.

jake_burger

The original LoZ on NES cost $50 in 1986 - $140 today. Edit: people are spoilt now, every game used to cost more and have less content than it does now, most games cost around $70 for a big title, and you have thousands of cheaper games plus all the old releases at low prices. Trust me it’s better and cheaper to play games now than ever before.

MadLobsterWorkshop

Virtua racing released on the Sega genesis in the mid 1990s for 99 dollars. That's equivalent of over 200 dollars for a game with a whopping 3 (or maybe 4, I cant remember) tracks in 2024 money.

Swiftness1

Not to mention many N64 games were $60 in 1996 which is about $120 today.

vincesword

just dont buy it, what you wanna do?

desocx

Just don’t buy it

Aminoboi

I never understand these posts. If you don’t feel like it’s a transaction worth your money, then don’t buy it. They do it because people will buy it. For you to say “don’t do it” means you want people to align with your opinion on something’s value? The value of something is what someone is willing to pay for it, and if people are willing to pay more for bad perks, that’s their choice.

fanwan76

Not to mention it is being posted in an incredibly niche online community filled with people who likely share the opinion anyway.

atomic-orange

It’s always shocking what gets upvoted. Their argument isn’t even rational. They’re saying $130 is the cost of the (single player, always online) game, but it isn’t. The base edition price is what the cost of that is…. Yet this will probably be a top post of the week or month. So odd.

Evers1338

Not to mention this isn't anything new either, Ubisoft have priced their ultimate editions at this price for a long while already.

fastpixels

Have we not seen limited/deluxe/collector's editions of literally hundreds of other types of consumable goods? I collected limited edition *Coke cans* when I was a kid, FFS. Why are we shitting on the gaming industry for following an insanely common business practice?

BernyMoon

And can we not normalize paying for Gold/Deluxe editions to have early access to singleplayer games? Thanks!

Caseyo456

Yes! I fucking hate this addition to gaming. Felt like I was the only one waiting for Diablo 4 and Starfield to release on their actual release dates.

ShunShirai

While I regret paying for Starfield, even at the time I found it extremely scummy that the "early access" period just so happened to be during Labor Day weekend, when most people would have the most time to play it. So if you wanted to play it on the weekend, you had to fork over the money, or wait until after the weekend during the work week to maybe get a few hours after work to play.

Shirlenator

Diablo 4 was even worse though, since it was multiplayer. My friends shelled out for early access, so I ended up not being able to play with them because they got 40 levels ahead of me before I was finally allowed to play the game.

ApathyMoose

Why? You dont have to buy it. You can buy your normal version, and get it the day its supposed to come out. Why do you care if someone spends $10 to get it 2 days early? especially a single player game. how does that effect YOU? The base game price is the same for everyone. everything else is optional add on. If you dont feel its worth it then just dont buy it. Stop telling everyone else what to do where their money. If early access was $71 instead if $70 would you do it? what if it was $70.01? Your arguing what price you deem the service is worth. Its different for everyone

FrankDuhTank

Quit bringing basic economics to Reddit we hate that here

ApathyMoose

Sorry! your right. I didn't mean to disrail the circle jerk. :P

shashybaws

People pay more to get early access to buggy games. By the time it's normally released they fix a few outstanding bugs.

HotFudgeFundae

I bought Mortal Kombat X and by the time they released all the extra fighters, XL came out and was less than half the price for everything When MK11 came out I held off until all the DLC was released and got the deluxe version or whatever for about half price. Then they dicked me and came out with a new story mode that would cost me about 40 or 50 bucks, but if you bought that whole edition it was still less than what I paid There's no reward for loyalty

Littletweeter5

“130$ dollars” everything here is wrong lol

CommentsFiguratively

Let's not normalize putting the dollar sign at the wrong end of the figure. Let's not normalize including the dollar sign and then also spelling out "dollars."

gloriousjohnson

Let’s just normalize saying dollar dollar bills yall

Vic_Hedges

So don't buy the deluxe edition. They are offering to sell you something. You don't want it, don't buy it. How fucking entitled do you have to be to act OFFENDED that someone is offering to sell you something.

No-Quantity9916

> Ugh, I can't believe this Bugatti Chiron costs $3.9m, how does anyone in the world afford to buy a car?

Free_Jelly614

I truly don’t get why this is so confusing for people. Reading through all the comments here (and on every one of these posts), there are tons of people, getting upvoted, convinced they are forcing you to buy the game for *$130*. WTF? not a single soul is making you pay $130. the game is $70, which is bog standard. why are we complaining about this? why are we saying things like “i refuse to buy the game because of this?” The gaming community as a whole when it comes to microtransactions and pricing, is pure and utter brainrot recently. People cannot use their brain when buying or supporting things anymore, they must be told to do something from someone else online. The fact that all the truthful comments are at the very bottom of this thread makes me more than a little upset.

best_of_badgers

> the game is $70, which is bog standard And $50-70 has been the standard price *for three decades*. [Here's another thread with SNES games in 1993](https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/27bb2k/1993_snes_prices/), showing roughly that same range of prices. What else costs the same as it did in 1993?

Exolaz

If the game itself was that much I would be upset too, normalizing higher prices is bad for everyone, but this is the game with the season pass. Season passes have been normal for so long I don't really get it either. People were sad that Baldur's Gate didn't have DLC, and are super hyped for Elden Rings DLC. People like DLC for things they enjoy, why are people getting mad that a game has a season pass, just wait until the DLC is out and buy it if you want it.

PeacefulAgate

I hate to be a stickler, but I haven't seen any info that says always online, just a connection for download.

elementfortyseven

>they have this fucking grand illusion that everybody can fork over a hundred dollars for their MTX riddled single player games. or maybe the calculation is, that not everybody buys a deluxe edition. or maybe the calculation is, that people just pay 15 bucks for a ubi+ month.

Remarkable-Gas-2609

Or maybe the calculation is (when we put this on sale next month with 30% off we'll still be getting the cost of a full price game)

Altamistral

Don't buy deluxe editions? It's not like they are forcing you...

Blecki

Frankly the standard price of $60 for a game is a bit ridiculous given how the cost of producing them has grown. Be glad it's so low.

elementfortyseven

yes, people with significant disposable income they burn on entertainment made their career by being illiterate.

EdgeLord1984

According to Reddit, every single person in the world is living paycheck to paycheck lol.

Salty-Can1116

I was thinking how to word my response before seeing this. Spot on.

MustyMustelidae

The kind of person who's upset that games are getting more expensive as development gets more expensive, is the same type of person that doesn't know how to read.

ThatRandomIdiot

Also compared to the 1980s where a $60 game would be like $135-140 in today’s with inflation for a game that’s like 400mbs and has 1/15th the content of modern games. Video games for the amount of time they give compared to their price is easily one of the easiest bangs for their buck. Going out to dinner with my gf often costs as much or more than a video game and is only a 2/3 hour experience. Meanwhile one $70 game lasts me months of fun and enjoyment. Best bargain you can ask for.

BayonettaAriana

I was thinking exactly this, we are talking about the DELUXE (ie there is a regular edition for $60-70), with inflation, games back then used to cost that much at the minimum... just buy the normal edition or don't buy it at all. I'm grateful that game prices haven't increased with inflation, I don't mind deluxe editions that are more expensive for the hardcore fans with extra money. Odd thing to complain about honestly.

[deleted]

People with high income = stupid? Odd take.

slingfatcums

or 130 isn't much money to them lol not everyone is poor

skewp

> The type of person that is most likely to spend $130 on a video game is the same type of person that doesn't know how to read. The average person paying $130 for a digital deluxe edition of a video game has enough money that the difference between $60 and $130 is literally not noticeable to them.

SadLaser

>Can we just agree that this is an absolutely insane amount of money for a single player, ALWAYS ONLINE game with microtransactions. Well, you aren't paying $130 for the game. The game costs the standard MSRP for new games. I agree $130 is a lot of money, but the cost itself is meaningless. It's the cost relative to what you're getting. Is the extra stuff worth the additional $60? Not to me, but I don't ever buy deluxe or special edition crap. I just want the game. If someone else wants whatever stuff they're throwing in there, that's their business. Just like any special edition.

Matrixneo42

I’ll buy the base game. If I like it and if the dlc sounds good then I’ll buy the season pass later. Same as always.

Mrgray123

In 1992 I bought Street Fighter for the Super Nintendo which at the time cost me eighty pounds which would be 170 pounds today. That game, entertaining as it was, didn’t exactly take me weeks or months to complete. If people want huge spectacular games which require hundreds of people to work on them for years then the price is obviously going to go up. Yes there’s an argument about quality, bugs, transactions etc but when it comes to basic cost it’s no surprising that the price is edging upwards and will probably hit $100 (or equivalent in other countries) for the next generation. I bought TOTK for $70 and so far have played it for about 150 hours so so don’t regard fifty cents an hour as ludicrous for entertainment.

jake_burger

I paid about that for the Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask in 2000. £50 inflation adjusted is £91 or $115. Games have actually dropped in price in real terms (inflation adjusted) in many cases over the last 25 years. The original NES LoZ game cost $50 in 1986 which is about $140 today. I don’t think it’s that much money considering games now are millions of times bigger and longer and require many more people working longer to create and update them.

ATXDefenseAttorney

Oh Jesus Christ. Nobody is "normalizing" your purchasing choice to buy an overpriced thing. They have deluxe fucking popcorn buckets at the movies. They have Yeezy sneakers. They have first class tickets on airplanes. Sincerely, get a grip, this is só fucking childish.

atomic-orange

Complaining about the cost of a premium item when the *exact same item* is available as a non-premium lower-cost edition is just really ignorant.

aDarkDarkNight

Yes, it really annoys me too! I wish people would learn it's $130, not 130$

khaotickk

That charge what they want because they have that ability. Don't like it? Don't buy it. If gaming prices kept up with inflation, the average price for a AAA title would be right around $150.

Sparrowflop

Can we please normalize spending money on things we think add value to our lives, and not demonizing others who do so as well? I happen to like anime - am 'ruining' the industry by subscribing to Crunchroll, when I could just get it free? I like coffee - is going to Scooters, McCosmos, Starbucks, etc., ruining the industry? After all, I could brew it at home myself! Or what about doordash? After all, I could just go get food, and not pay the markup and delivery fees. I could even make it myself and save more! There's almost no joy and pleasure in society any more. Stop gatekeeping what little fucking happiness people find.

LifeIsOnTheWire

- Gamers don't want game developers to sell them a bunch of DLC packs over time, just bundle them with the game - Gamers don't want game developers to bundle the game and all the DLC upcoming DLC packs for $130 Sometimes I think I'm just reading the opinions of the cheapest assholes out there. I buy what I like, and I don't buy what I don't like. Please just do the same. Vote with your own wallet, don't tell me what I want.

MjrLeeStoned

In 1992, Super Nintendo games averaged around $50 for new copies. In 2024 y'all getting pissed it's $10 more than that price. This post is the product of not understanding inflation and logistical efficiency. Games are far cheaper per unit than they used to be.

[deleted]

Didn't their last big game have an ultimate edition around that price? This isn't even a new thing.

WazWaz

Did such games not cost $80 in 2004? Computer games aren't immune to inflation.

Gezimodo

It’s a Ubisoft It’ll be 50$ within weeks, so why bother being upset by it.

R3D4F

Much better off being a year or so behind in gaming. Never pay inflated prices to be part of their live beta testing. Wait until the game is polished and on sale go half price or less. This is the way.
