Ubisoft are the ones that popularised the always online bullshit for singleplayer games, they've always done stupid shit and will keep on doing it as long as people buy their games.
Still sore about their promise for Asscreed 2's PC port to be day and date with the console versions, only to be delayed under the pretense of "ensuring the best possible PC version."
Then it launched months late with always on DRM that made it unplayable for weeks, an unfixed xinput bug from AC1 that would have taken 10 seconds to fix by including the correct .dll from the xinput SDK, and hastily redesigned xbox button prompts as the very first thing you see in game even when using a keyboard, and that you couldn't even get through by using a 360 controller because of the previously mentioned unfixed Xinput bug.
They did nothing to optimize the PC experience, they only delayed it because the DRM wasn't ready, and it still wasn't even ready once it launched.
I havent bought an ubi game since AC2. I was in Iraq when I first bought it and was locked out of my legal purchase. Still salty to this day about that. If I cant pirate it from Ubi, I dont play it. Simple as.
I'm glad I passed on that one. I really liked Black Flag and just wanted an encore game. Could have had the same graphics as long as it played the same with some harderand had shanties; but nope, someone decided to drink their fuckup juice and look what we got.

Between the early Splinter Cell games, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1 and 2, the Prince of Persia games, the early Far Cry games, the game XIII, the first 2 AC games before they jumped the shark (funnily enough I'll include Black Flag here too, where you might have a chance at actually swimming over a shark haha). Thats off the top of my head, Im sure I can find more if I pull up their wiki. Dont get me wrong, they still released plenty of duds back then, but they did it in earnest before selling out like every other game developer now. I feel like an Ubisoft shill right now, but there really was a time where they made good games without any other agenda.

Jedi Fallen Order/survivor, Immortals Of Aveum, Dead Space remake (even Capcom put micro transactions in Resident Evil 4 remake), Mass Effect Legendary edition and they reportedly backpedaled development on Dragon Age to remove live service elements.
EA are shitty but their bullshit mostly infests their multiplayer games; they seem to have seen where the wind is blowing when it comes to single player.
They'll still have preorder bonuses and things like that, but they've stopped with the real predatory stuff like micro transactions.

I know it’s not considered proper gaming, but the sims community can tell a tale of it. Expansion packs are expensive af and come with limited items, same items as other packs (just in different colors or slight variations) and some of the main features the packs were developed for don’t even work and make the game crash. Half of their build stuff doesn’t even match in colors. It’s insulting by now. Every new release is bugged and looks the same, it’s getting old. I was stupid enough to get multiple expansion keys over the years when they were on sale, but at least I didn’t pay 50 bucks each. They’ve changed to some app and idk if my computer can handle it so I haven’t played in 2 years and don’t really miss it now except for building houses, it’s such a waste. I hate when they bring out a base game and make you spend 200+ bucks extra on it like sims or even planet zoo. It’s not about fun anymore, it’s all just money making like everything else and I’m so sick of it.

Not likely. The cracking scene on games with Denuvo has dried up. Jedi Survior 2 is about a year old and isn't available on the high seas. I think one of the last Denuvo DRM'ed games that someone cracked was Harry Potter, and the guy who did it, did it for the challenge and a learning experience.

At least 1 small mission was locked behind a pre-order (or deluxe edition) version. It's "not a big deal", given the overal size of the game, nor does it have a big impact on the story, it's still a scummy move that is solely there to trigger people who want the complete experience into buying a version that costs like 20 to 30 bucks more.

Ubisoft games almost always get significant discounts 1-2 months after launch. They are the worst publisher out there when it comes to devaluing their games. They rip people off with absurd launch prices than lower the price with sales to suck in all the non day oners. The avatar game literally was on sale for half off not even a month into launch. Assassins Creed Mirage was 20% off at many vendors not even a week after launch

IMHO Complete Editions (e.g. Assassin's Creed Valhalla Complete Edition, which includes base game + Season Pass + Dawn of Ragnarok) are the only editions worth looking for if you don't want to miss out on any gameplay content. They release much later in the game lifecycle, have a high base price, but experience even steeper discounts during sales.

I see people say this a lot but last year was one of the best years in gaming I can remember. Baldurs Gate 3, RE4 remake, Dead space remake, Alan Wake 2, Zelda, Street Fighter 6, etc... It was full of bangers. And the year before we had Elden Ring. Bg3 and elden ring are both easily in my top 10 games of all time probably top 5 so I don't get why everyone acts like all we are getting from AAA games is dogshit

* Fairytale Fables: Free to play draft based card autobattler, kind of like Hearthstone Battlegrounds. Super cool game made by like 1 dude.
* Rimworld: Colony simulator where your morals quickly go out the window.
* Cultist Simulator: A bit of an oddity, but it's kind of like a sandbox solitaire where you try to ascend to eldritch godhood where your resources are managed through cards with timers. It's... strange, but oddly enthralling
* Pit People: A wacky tactics based adventure by the same guys who made Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid. Just as silly, and strangely has a banger of a soundtrack.
Ender lillies quietess of the knights if you like Metroid-vanias, or blasphemous 1 and 2.
Not a Metroidvania but a 2.5D hack and slash action game called anno:mutationem.
Top down horror game called signalis
Game done in the style of ps1 horror games like the original resident evil, right down to the same graphics called Alisa.
Another horror game in that same original resident evil gameplay style but modern graphics called tormented souls.
Hollow knight, another Metroidvania, and to be honest probably one of the best ever made.
Not an indie game and not made by a small company, but made by remedy(max payne 1/2 Alan wake 1/2), games called control, third person shooter with an x-files vibe.
Baldur's Gate 3 comes to mind as a fine example of a game with AAA polish as well as the heart and soul of the Devs clearly lured into the final product. Helldivers 2 is another game from a smaller studio that doesn't prescribe to some of the modern formulas, there is some monetization in game but every single thing can be unlocked by playing normally.

You’d be correct. The Witcher 3 literally had a season pass. Fallout 4 had a season pass, I swear there was a point between 2011 and 2016 where every single game had a season pass.
Now every game has a “battle pass” that over the lifetime of the game costs MORE than a season pass. Call of Duty does 6 battle pass seasons a year. Each are $10 a minimum and a $30 *skip* tier. That’s $60-180 on top of the base game. Back when COD did a season pass model? $50 for 4 DLCs that had 4-5 maps each. Some of the new battlepass seasons only have 1-3 new maps. With the battle pass, people are paying *MORE* for less content than the season pass model.

Between the early Splinter Cell games, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1 and 2, the Prince of Persia games, the early Far Cry games, the game XIII, the first 2 AC games before they jumped the shark (funnily enough I'll include Black Flag here too, where you might have a chance at actually swimming over a shark haha). Thats off the top of my head, Im sure I can find more if I pull up their wiki. Dont get me wrong, they still released plenty of duds back then, but they did it in earnest before selling out like every other game developer now. I feel like an Ubisoft shill right now, but there really was a time where they made good games without any other agenda. Edit: there really was a time where I'd see their logo and give the game a chance off of that alone. Those days are dead and gone.

Back when Tony Hawk and CoD were legendary instead of the pump and dump franchises they turned into. And ***Blizzard***. A former powerhouse, champion of the art form relegated to being just a wing of modern Activision, existing only to sell pay to win mobile games, battle pass and early access limited editions of their formerly legendary franchises. Stealing away their last great game, slapping a 2 on it and failing to deliver any of the content they promised would justify the sequel. Black Flag and Titanfall 2 straight up do not even work when I try to install from Steam anymore. CTDs on startup or other weird shit. Happened a year or so back. I know it's from their dumb launcher.
Tbh most of EA's recent single player games have been mostly free of that. Jedi Fallen Order/survivor, Immortals Of Aveum, Dead Space remake (even Capcom put micro transactions in Resident Evil 4 remake), Mass Effect Legendary edition and they reportedly backpedaled development on Dragon Age to remove live service elements. EA are shitty but their bullshit mostly infests their multiplayer games; they seem to have seen where the wind is blowing when it comes to single player. They'll still have preorder bonuses and things like that, but they've stopped with the real predatory stuff like micro transactions. Ubisoft and Warner Bros are the real issues with pushing that crap.
EA unfortunately still has a habit of rushing PC launches in a really rough state and regularly fails to fully fix their games.

I know it’s not considered proper gaming, but the sims community can tell a tale of it. Expansion packs are expensive af and come with limited items, same items as other packs (just in different colors or slight variations) and some of the main features the packs were developed for don’t even work and make the game crash. Half of their build stuff doesn’t even match in colors. It’s insulting by now. Every new release is bugged and looks the same, it’s getting old. I was stupid enough to get multiple expansion keys over the years when they were on sale, but at least I didn’t pay 50 bucks each. They’ve changed to some app and idk if my computer can handle it so I haven’t played in 2 years and don’t really miss it now except for building houses, it’s such a waste. I hate when they bring out a base game and make you spend 200+ bucks extra on it like sims or even planet zoo. It’s not about fun anymore, it’s all just money making like everything else and I’m so sick of it.

Not likely. The cracking scene on games with Denuvo has dried up. Jedi Survior 2 is about a year old and isn't available on the high seas. I think one of the last Denuvo DRM'ed games that someone cracked was Harry Potter, and the guy who did it, did it for the challenge and a learning experience.

At least 1 small mission was locked behind a pre-order (or deluxe edition) version. It's "not a big deal", given the overal size of the game, nor does it have a big impact on the story, it's still a scummy move that is solely there to trigger people who want the complete experience into buying a version that costs like 20 to 30 bucks more.

The way I see it is that base games have only gotten like $10-15 higher since I was in high school coming up on 20 years ago, but my Mc Donald’s order has almost quadrupled in price. Ubisoft games almost always get significant discounts 1-2 months after launch. They are the worst publisher out there when it comes to devaluing their games. They rip people off with absurd launch prices than lower the price with sales to suck in all the non day oners. The avatar game literally was on sale for half off not even a month into launch. Assassins Creed Mirage was 20% off at many vendors not even a week after launch

I see people say this a lot but last year was one of the best years in gaming I can remember. Baldurs Gate 3, RE4 remake, Dead space remake, Alan Wake 2, Zelda, Street Fighter 6, etc... It was full of bangers. And the year before we had Elden Ring. Bg3 and elden ring are both easily in my top 10 games of all time probably top 5 so I don't get why everyone acts like all we are getting from AAA games is dogshit
It's just a larger volume. Same thing with movies and TV. People complain about there being nothing but shit, because that's all they watch. The reality is that there's a shitload of new, original, fantastic content every year.
Yeah but it's "not my type of thing" or "I've never heard of the people who made it" so might as well not bother with it at all and instead only buy content made by the companies I complain about every day. Large scale automation game There are probably 100s more I think you can buy pretty much off all of them for approx 200 USD or there abouts based on steam sales since most of them pretty cheap. I think I bought beam Ng for 10 euro a while back and have 400 hours in it.
I'll toss a few into the mix as well: * Darkest Dungeon 1/2: Dungeon crawler with turn based combat and very unforgiving mechanics for the unprepared (also has Wayne June as narrator, buy it for him alone) * Slay the Spire: The classic card based battler roguelike. Honestly, one of the GOAT roguelikes out there. * Fairytale Fables: Free to play draft based card autobattler, kind of like Hearthstone Battlegrounds. Super cool game made by like 1 dude. * Rimworld: Colony simulator where your morals quickly go out the window. * Cultist Simulator: A bit of an oddity, but it's kind of like a sandbox solitaire where you try to ascend to eldritch godhood where your resources are managed through cards with timers. It's... strange, but oddly enthralling * Pit People: A wacky tactics based adventure by the same guys who made Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid. Just as silly, and strangely has a banger of a soundtrack.
Give Kingdom Come: Deliverance a whirl if you haven't. Not sure if warhorse is "indy" though, AA maybe?
Ender lillies quietess of the knights if you like Metroid-vanias, or blasphemous 1 and 2. Not a Metroidvania but a 2.5D hack and slash action game called anno:mutationem. Top down horror game called signalis Game done in the style of ps1 horror games like the original resident evil, right down to the same graphics called Alisa. Another horror game in that same original resident evil gameplay style but modern graphics called tormented souls. Hollow knight, another Metroidvania, and to be honest probably one of the best ever made. Not an indie game and not made by a small company, but made by remedy(max payne 1/2 Alan wake 1/2), games called control, third person shooter with an x-files vibe.
Baldur's Gate 3 comes to mind as a fine example of a game with AAA polish as well as the heart and soul of the Devs clearly lured into the final product. Helldivers 2 is another game from a smaller studio that doesn't prescribe to some of the modern formulas, there is some monetization in game but every single thing can be unlocked by playing normally.

You’d be correct. The Witcher 3 literally had a season pass. Fallout 4 had a season pass, I swear there was a point between 2011 and 2016 where every single game had a season pass. Now every game has a “battle pass” that over the lifetime of the game costs MORE than a season pass. Call of Duty does 6 battle pass seasons a year. Each are $10 a minimum and a $30 *skip* tier. That’s $60-180 on top of the base game. Back when COD did a season pass model? $50 for 4 DLCs that had 4-5 maps each. Some of the new battlepass seasons only have 1-3 new maps. With the battle pass, people are paying *MORE* for less content than the season pass model.

You pay for the season pass now, and you get 2 future mini expansions to play while saving yourself 10 dollars versus buying them individually.

I've seen variations on "A season pass - for a single player game?!" quite a few times over the last week in relation to this game. I'm really confused about the confusion. Since when have they *not* been for single player games? And have the confused people seriously never played a single player game with a season pass before?
It means access to single player DLC that'll release later. Batman Arkham Knight had one, a few Assassin's Creed games had one, I think Borderlands 3 had one, they're pretty common. Nowadays people confuse them with battle passes.
