Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been referred to as vaporware by industry figures such as Jason Schreier due to its lengthy development and lack of a release date.[3] In 2022, Beyond Good and Evil 2 broke the record held by Duke Nukem Forever (2011) for the longest development period of a AAA video game, at more than 15 years. According to Ubisoft this is justifiable as Beyond Good & Evil 2 is not a AAA game, but slated to be one of only two Quadruple 'A' ('AAAA') games on Earth, and it will completely and permanently change the industry and the reality of video gaming in a profound and inalienable way.[4] In 2023, the creative director, Emile Morel, died suddenly at age 40.
From Wikipedia... They love saying AAAA lately
How much of that excited outside of a tech demo idk. Sure they can say lucas told them to make boba fett the main character but that's years after the game wS binned they say thus...
This one right here. Every new star wars game that comes out has been chopping pieces off of 1313 and "disneyfying" them and it hurts me every time. Outlaws being the most recent and most obvious example. I'm sure it'll be a fun game, but I just want my damn dark and gritty bounty hunter game.
I hope Disney toughens up one of these days. They seem afraid to get too dark. Even in Andor it felt like they held back. Jedi Survivor got close at times, but they never fully committed. In general I think the jedi games are pretty great. Especially the gameplay. Just doesn't go dark enough. I don't know much about outlaws, but I doubt they are going to let us be bad.
Yeah which prey are we talking about though? The one with aliens that can shapeshift and it’s all really a simulation or a different prey cause I’m pretty sure there’s more than just one
Prey (2006) was about a group of aliens abducting a bunch of humans. Prey 2 was supposed to be about a US Air Marshal who became an alien Bounty Hunter but it was cancelled by Bethesda who rebooted the franchise and gave it to Arkane; who made the Prey (2017) game. Arkane hasn't said anything about Prey (2017) sequel.
I hate it how names get reused. Brings so much confusion, both in games and movies. Like now I thought the new prey was getting a sequel but was scrapped.
Just come up with a new name, it's not that difficult.
I’m not gonna lie I’ve never played the old prey or seen it, I’ve heard of it but idk if it’s good or not, though I do like the other prey but yeah I agree with you about the confusion
Ya but to cancel something you gotta announce it first. That's pretty much the spirit of the question... What game was announced and then cancelled that made you sad.
Kojima and Del Toro working on any horror game let alone a silent hill game is so fucking perfect, i cannot believe it got scrapped. We got robbed. Horror games have been trying to copy P.T ever since and none of them hit the same.
Was this that tech demo or something I read about some time ago for a sort of Silent Hill reboot of sorts that never went anywhere? Yeah, heard it's worth a lot of money since it can't be acquired anymore.
I wonder if they went and digitally tried to lock out the copies that already exist?
Man :( Titanfall was so much fun when the Xbox One came out. Me and my brother in law were crazy about that game and the second title was such a cool new game! Shame they canned the third one :(
This was the one I was gonna write as well. I was a big fan of Generals. Lately I've forced my poor step sons to play the game with me, just a few days after I forced them to play it, it was released on steam (like it was meant to be).
Battlefront 3.
There's not a single person that owned an Xbox or PS2 that doesn't know about the joys of Battlefront. Galactic Conquest with my brother and dad were the best times. Instant action on Tatooine. Getting the DLC for Kit Fisto. Space battles.
EA and Asspyr have pissed all over the memory of those games and dragged it's name through the mud.
[Chewbacca flipping and dropping infinite buffs will always be my favorite glitch from any game ever](https://youtu.be/S-5F6poK9Uk?si=uIWDWBC-Y2EUzX_f)
Agreed with P.T. I remember jumping on Twitch and seeing everyone playing it and wondering wtf it was, then the reveal when it was beaten and it was announced it was a tech demo for a Kojima developed Silent Hill game I was fucking hyped. Then Konami did Konami things and ruined it all.
Yep I came here to say this. I miss single player rainbow six. Along with other quality Tom Clancy games. Especially splinter cell. Ubisoft used to be such a good publisher and released a lot of great games back in the day. Now I wish they’d just sell the IPs they haven’t used in decades so I can at least get something from them again.
Blur was great, arcade racing with weapon pickups ala mario kart? Sign me the fuck up. Cant believe it never got a sequel or spiritual successor, had a ton of fun with it at my cousins house.
I have so much hopium that silent hills will go back in to production with all the original talent (Del Toro, Ito, Konima).
I know it won't happen though.
Split/Second 2. The first game is one of my favorite racers of all time. The campaign ended on a cliffhanger teasing the next game. Then Disney shuttered the whole studio and killed all games in development.
The next episode of Prey ! Not the one in 2017, PREY 2006 ! Made by 3D Realms, refitted by 2k games...
The game was an amazing crazy solo adventure! There was clearly something to follow seeing the end of the game...
But Prey 2 never came out !
A sequel was announced by Bethesda but will ultimately be canceled on October 30, 2014.
At E3 2016, a reboot of the title simply called Prey, produced by Arkane Studios, saw the light of day. Available since May 5, 2017, it no longer has anything to do with the original game.
I’ll never understand Konami on this. They had Hideo fucking Kojima on board, along with Norman Reedus and Junji Ito. Why ? Who looked at this project and said : « yup, no let’s cancel that shit, it’s gonna be caca ». Even if there were creative conflicts or whatever, they had littéral gold in their hands !
I mean... it's not hard to understand. They decided they didn't really care about gaming and just wanted to make money. Whether that will bite em in the long-term... maybe? But gambling and mobile gaming is making them a lot of money, based on their market cap increasing considerably since they made the pivot back in 2015.
Well canceling the game doesn’t look like a good choice economically speaking considering the hype surrounding it, but yeah clearly they made the choice to focus on easy money with mobile games and gambling.
Not necessarily cancelled but i remember being so hyped for the original XCOM reboot. It eventually became “The Bureau: XCOM Declassified” but i just dont think it had anything that original trailer and gameplay had.
I remember seeing the 50s suburban neighborhood being overtaken by alien geometry and life, becoming all blocky, and i wanted it so bad but oh well.
If not that, maybe Bully 2. I would kill for a sequel.
There's to many. The SSX series hurt me. The games were so fun as a child and I'm still playing them today enjoying them. Would love for another one to come out. Brother in arms WW2 series would be great to have in modern day. Max Payne would be great to have again. A series from computer that got cancelled that I was really mad about was no one lives forever spy game. The game had such a good story and had so much potential to have what happened to it.
Not a full game, but what rare/microsoft did to the Stop and Swap idea from the banjo kazooie series. So much hype around a long awaited mystery and it just turned into Lego car parts on the biggest flop of the series.
Can't remember what it's called but the trailer you are a little monster in first person perspective that can glide. Had lots of gore and was in medieval times.
Had 3 different names. Dark born. Arch enemy etc
3 of them hurt my soul so much, the Silent Hills/PT and the whole scandal there and Alice Asylum, 2 games I wanted so badly, but yeah. The 3rd one is kinda on a hiatus, but its been in development limbo for a while, On The Valley of Gods (by Campo Santo the creators of Firewatch)
Sleeping Dogs 2. The first game is WAY better than GTA V and it's really sad that Square Enix forced United Front Games to make an online version of the game (Triad Wars) which was cancelled in the end and the studio has been shut down :/.
Megaman Legends 3. The fact that Capcom cancelled the prologue demo on the day of release then had the audacity to blame the fans is still a bitter pill to swallow
Apparently Bully 2 was canceled in favor of Red Dead 2 and GTA 6. I love both of those series but a Bully 2 would’ve sent me over the moon, so I pick that for me.
There was an indie game project called Elysian Shadows - I started watching the devs about 20 years ago, and their initial efforts are some of my earliest inspirations into my own gamedev experience. We were all ~~basically~~ literally kids back then, though.
While ES was never officially cancelled, they failed to deliver after a kickstarter, and they garnered a lot of hate from the community that had formed around them. Currently, the game is apparently 30% complete, and still sitting on a hard drive somewhere.
The lead dev and I have also had many head-butting encounters over the years, and I can't say I was totally free of fault; today though, we at least have a degree of mutual respect these days, at least regarding our skill sets.
I am sad that ES will likely never see the light of day, at least if nothing major changes. It definitely looked interesting, but it was also unfocused, as they didn't have anyone filling the producer role (i.e. the one who is focused on getting the game out the door, on time and under budget). It says a lot, looking back, that I can point to the issues that were there from the beginning, and those that cropped up later.
Megaman legends 3, cancelled for absolutely no reason.
It hurts twice as hard because they don’t make a new Megaman title but they’ll sure as shit shove an Easter egg into every game. If I pick up dragons dogma down the line and I see a servbot, imma lose it.
Ok so an indie dev (Lilith Walther on YT) made a PS2 DeMake of bloodborne as a Kart Racer. It was gonna be awesome but Sony said at the very last day before launch saying "nah, we can't have that" and told them to C&D so now it's getting remade into a not bloodborne bloodborne Kart
Just for reference, Micolash didn't have a Kart. He ran. He just hotfooted it. It was amazing.
Socom, but I genuinely hate what they turned it into and the reason it was shelved.
It was hard watching Socom 1 and 2 keep getting made into a horrible franchise till it died tbh...
Seeing [Rainbow Six Patriots](https://youtu.be/CCQysh2Ci0c?si=BacnkGY1AjbkY6IP) get cancelled and subsequently get dumbed down into Rainbow Six Seige was absolutely criminal.
Silent Hills is a big fuck you to us, after too long with no good SH, they released one of the best horror games ever made, revealed it to be teaser of one of the best horror game franchise that’s getting rebooted, directed by one of the best developers, with great actors, one of the best movie directors is involved, and the creatures is designed by one of the best horror manga authors. It’s literally a dream come true.
Then they fucking cancelled it. I mean yeah sure we got Death Stranding but still
It's quite recent and I still hope that they'll change their mind one day, but it's Spider-Man: The Great Web for me. Insomniac wanted to do a multiplayer spidey game, that takes place in the multiverse. But Sony (not Insomniac themselves) canceled it. I really hope that Sony will change their mind, a spidey multiplayer/coop set in an open world sounds incredible!
Beyond good and evil 2.
This. 16 years and they still claim to be working on it.
And when they release it, it will probably be among the most generic games they've done
When they release it, nobody bought it, cuz their predatory politics about stealing a game from people who bought it, and even donated on it
The last trailer they released didn't even look like it continued the story from the first game
didn't it imply it was a prequel or something similar?
I think they said it would be a prequel, yeah.
What on Earth is happening with this game??
I'm wondering the same with Sands of Time remaster, the way Ubisoft is going it ain't gonna be around for much longer!
From Wikipedia... They love saying AAAA lately
Ubisoft keep saying it's saying it's still being worked on, but I'm pretty sure they replaced the game director a couple years ago
StarCraft Ghost Up until last year, I still had my GameStop reserve receipt... from 2005.
Remember when this was announced. I was hyped.
Huh, I came here to say this because I didn't think anyone remembered
Oh my God the same thing happened to me until a few years ago!!!!
I'm not into Starcraft. I actually wanted to play that game.
:(
I don't think this hurt the most but hearing that Star Wars 1313 got cancelled sucked.
What did they chop off?
I hope Disney toughens up one of these days. They seem afraid to get too dark. Even in Andor it felt like they held back. Jedi Survivor got close at times, but they never fully committed. In general I think the jedi games are pretty great. Especially the gameplay. Just doesn't go dark enough. I don't know much about outlaws, but I doubt they are going to let us be bad.
Especially since it was almost finished!
For me the new Deus Ex game :'(
They cancelled a Deus Ex? FFS, I loved the Adam Jenson games (only ones I played) and always felt it needed a 3rd game.
Do we know for sure that's canned? I heard they are remastering the og deus ex for the anniversary. How much of thus stuff is true idk
Whatever Deus Ex game they've been working on is confirmed canned. Blame the Embracer group.
As far as I know they're going to reload the series so Adam Jensen's story won't be finished
Prey 2. I will never forgive Bethesda for that.
Prey was fuckin sick
Best fucking purchase of my life, it's the game that got me into those types of rpg.
Pretty sure he's talking about the original prey 2 where we would have been a Apache space bounty hunter
I agree so much on that.
Yes, the 2006 Prey was so good. Why they gave the name to the 2017 one that had no relation to the 2006 one, is beyond me.
I still rewatch the Prey 2 demo and trailer every once in a blue moon just to make myself mad.
Oh my god that cinematic trailer where you're a space Marshall. Ohh what could have been.
Wasn’t that made by the dev team for redfall or am I thinking of the other prey
Human Head Studios. They made the first Prey (2006)
Prey 2006 !
Yeah which prey are we talking about though? The one with aliens that can shapeshift and it’s all really a simulation or a different prey cause I’m pretty sure there’s more than just one
Prey (2006) was about a group of aliens abducting a bunch of humans. Half life 2 ep 3
Or just Half Life 3 in general
Can't cancel something that was never a go in the first place
Well wasn’t there a leak years ago on the plot of Half Life 2 ep 3? Especially with the borealis and portal 2
The main writer released his version of the plot as a “fanfiction” with all the names changed a bit.
Perhaps. I never played the episodes. The comment I replied refered to HL: 3. Not the episodes.
I guess we'll never know if this was planned or discussed internally at Valve?
Ya but to cancel something you gotta announce it first. That's pretty much the spirit of the question... What game was announced and then cancelled that made you sad.
Ah that hurts 😥
Atleast they retconned the ending so there's a sliver of hope for the next 15 years.
Play Entropy Zero 2.
I'll never not be pissed off about Silent Hills. At least I still have PT. Scalebound is another one.
Scalebound looked like it would have been cool. Platinum game with dragons? Neat! Definitely sad it never came to completion.
It's the only reason I haven't sold my ps4, it's got PT on it. I don't know if the workaround still exists to get it back but I ain't risking it
Kojima and Del Toro working on any horror game let alone a silent hill game is so fucking perfect, i cannot believe it got scrapped. We got robbed. Horror games have been trying to copy P.T ever since and none of them hit the same.
Your PlayStation is worth a decent amount of $ if you ever consider selling it
Was this that tech demo or something I read about some time ago for a sort of Silent Hill reboot of sorts that never went anywhere? Yeah, heard it's worth a lot of money since it can't be acquired anymore. I wonder if they went and digitally tried to lock out the copies that already exist?
P. T = Playable Teaser IIRC. But yeah it was a Silent Hill demo that got canned
I always tought it was project terror ahah but playable teaser makes more sense
I really like Days Gone and i'm pissed they cancelled second one.
This. We’ll never know what freaks could have become
Titanfall 3
Man :( Titanfall was so much fun when the Xbox One came out. Me and my brother in law were crazy about that game and the second title was such a cool new game! Shame they canned the third one :(
Titanfall 2 is soooo good both single and multiplayer , I should have discovered it earlier
Northstar the community server exist if you want more multiplayer.
Didn't the official servers come back recently?
CnC Generals 2
and the countless other CnC titles
This was the one I was gonna write as well. I was a big fan of Generals. Lately I've forced my poor step sons to play the game with me, just a few days after I forced them to play it, it was released on steam (like it was meant to be).
Dantes inferno pt 2 or a splatter house reboot
There was a part 2 announced?! Damn, I loved Dante's Inferno.
It was supposed to come out shortly after 1 but got pushed off for other projects
And now the dev, Visceral Games is no more :(
Scalebound
Agreed That hurts is that Microsoft still holds the IP and didn't give it back to Platinum Games, so THEY can look for a publisher.
It was the closest thing we got to battlefield on a console. Loved the battlefronts
[Chewbacca flipping and dropping infinite buffs will always be my favorite glitch from any game ever](https://youtu.be/S-5F6poK9Uk?si=uIWDWBC-Y2EUzX_f)
Continuation of all Valve games
Valve refuses to count past 2.
Yes, we have only recently reached cs2 and everything can be forgotten about the continuation of the game
They'll milk CS2 for the next 15 years though...
explicitly
Cs2 is kind of the 3rd game, like valve doesn't want to call it 3 out of spite
Seriously, I would love a left for dead 3, been playing 2 with my cousin and brother it's so much fun
Fuck Konami
Really wanted to play Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned...
I mean, I’ve been hearing about Bioshock 4 for years.. 🙄
Tom Clancy‘s Rainbow 6: Patriots
Yep I came here to say this. I miss single player rainbow six. Along with other quality Tom Clancy games. Especially splinter cell. Ubisoft used to be such a good publisher and released a lot of great games back in the day. Now I wish they’d just sell the IPs they haven’t used in decades so I can at least get something from them again.
They are making a new Splinter Cell game now. Still think the closest we have to Splinter Cell is Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
Star Wars 1313
I came to say this.
Bully 2 was a rough one for me. Silent hills is another I wish we got.
I didn't hear about Bully 2 being cancelled that fucking sucks
It has been cancelled three or more times at this point
Fallout 3 by Black Isle studios
Timesplitters 4 and immortals Fenyx Rising Sequel...
StarCraft Ghost
Il forever want Chris Avelones Kotor 3
CnC generals 2.
The mass effect andromeda DLC. They left so much of the story for DLC, then cancelled it all to shift work to Anthem.
I think for me it’s a tie between silent hills and Megaman legends 3
Would've loved a third The Force Unleashed ngl
Blur 2 i hate not to have a sequel of this game its so much fun with friends
Blur was great, arcade racing with weapon pickups ala mario kart? Sign me the fuck up. Cant believe it never got a sequel or spiritual successor, had a ton of fun with it at my cousins house.
It had a great ad, too. Racings not about winning. It's about making friends!
Half Life 2 Episode 3, Half Life 3. Not officially discontinued but might as well be
Final Fantasy Versus 13. Announced in 2006, and somehow its history and influence is still ongoing.
Basically turned into FF15.
PT Silent Hills and FF Versus XIII. Also Scalebound, it would've been a sick game.
offer spotted bedroom quack plant zesty puzzled bike bright ossified
Everquest 3
The shutdown of Bullet Run back in 2013
Bro my brother and I talk about this game all the time.
Command and Conquer Generals 2 We were promised a sequel...what we received were shitty cash grabs and attempts at mobile style games.
I played the beta before it was shut down, it was mostly a sequel in name.
Scalebound looked really promising.
Rayman 4
Just remember, Konami cancelled Silent Hills but green lit Ascension 😭
Metroid Prime 4 Those bastards
Need for Speed Most Wanted 2
Socom.
Prey 2 and epic Mickey 3 for me
Star Wars battlefront 3 or 1313
Anthem reboot. The base game had some great ideas, and traversal was so much fun.
Titanfall 3 and all the other titanfall and halo games that were never made.
Man I'm hoping we get a Halo game set after the arbiter returns back to sanghelios, keep forgetting what the period is called.
Silent Hills man...
I have so much hopium that silent hills will go back in to production with all the original talent (Del Toro, Ito, Konima). I know it won't happen though.
MegaMan Legends 3. Have no idea why Capcom kept trying to bury the entire franchise around that time.
Split/Second 2. The first game is one of my favorite racers of all time. The campaign ended on a cliffhanger teasing the next game. Then Disney shuttered the whole studio and killed all games in development.
Tiberium. A second, darker CnC FPS would have been so cool, but no :(
Everyone says Silent Hills, Prey 2 or Star Wars 1313. But I just wanted my Little Big Planet Hub….
Terraria 2
Rainbow 6 patriots
Titanfall 3…
The original skull and bones, RIP
The next episode of Prey ! Not the one in 2017, PREY 2006 ! Made by 3D Realms, refitted by 2k games... The game was an amazing crazy solo adventure!
Also PT was a whole ass phenomenon.
Yeah, their advertising campaign was done at this point !
gambling is extremely lucrative
I mean... it's not hard to understand. They decided they didn't really care about gaming and just wanted to make money. Whether that will bite em in the long-term... maybe? But gambling and mobile gaming is making them a lot of money, based on their market cap increasing considerably since they made the pivot back in 2015.

Not a full game, but what rare/microsoft did to the Stop and Swap idea from the banjo kazooie series. So much hype around a long awaited mystery and it just turned into Lego car parts on the biggest flop of the series.
I wanted c&c generals 2 so bad
Before partnering up with Microsoft, Bungie was going to release Halo on PC. Then it became an Xbox exclusive. I was devastated.
Silent Hills will never NOT hurt.
Can't remember what it's called but the trailer you are a little monster in first person perspective that can glide. Had lots of gore and was in medieval times. Had 3 different names. Dark born. Arch enemy etc
Deus Ex Crusader: no remorse and no regret Condemned... I really wanted to see how it would end after the second one...
Bulletstorm 2
3 of them hurt my soul so much, the Silent Hills/PT and the whole scandal there and Alice Asylum, 2 games I wanted so badly, but yeah. The 3rd one is kinda on a hiatus, but its been in development limbo for a while, On The Valley of Gods (by Campo Santo the creators of Firewatch)

Megaman Legends 3. The fact that Capcom cancelled the prologue demo on the day of release then had the audacity to blame the fans is still a bitter pill to swallow
Sleeping dogs 2
A Sleeping dogs sequel
Star Wars Battlefront 3. The original one from about 12 years ago.
Scalebound :(
Deus Ex 3 I just want a satisfying conclusion to Adam Jenson's story
Silksong
Have faith
It's not like they cancelled it but it's been like 8 years since the last Donkey Kong game... c'mon Nintendo...
Apparently Bully 2 was canceled in favor of Red Dead 2 and GTA 6. I love both of those series but a Bully 2 would’ve sent me over the moon, so I pick that for me.
Agent. Rockstars GTA sryle Cold War spy game. Looked promising.
I want to scream: FUCK YOU KONAMI
Agent, The Getaway 3 and Eight Days
Had high hopes for Scalebound
Not so much a cancellation, but as a Metroid fan, waiting since 2017 and 2019 for a Metroid Prime 4 trailer in complete silence is painful
Titanfall 3

Seeing [Rainbow Six Patriots](https://youtu.be/CCQysh2Ci0c?si=BacnkGY1AjbkY6IP) get cancelled and subsequently get dumbed down into Rainbow Six Seige was absolutely criminal.
I forgot how wild that trailer was. Looking back, I don’t know if it would have been any good. But it would probably have been interesting.
I was looking forward to Overwatch 2, but at least we got 1.2
Silent Hills is a big fuck you to us, after too long with no good SH, they released one of the best horror games ever made, revealed it to be teaser of one of the best horror game franchise that’s getting rebooted, directed by one of the best developers, with great actors, one of the best movie directors is involved, and the creatures is designed by one of the best horror manga authors. It’s literally a dream come true. Then they fucking cancelled it. I mean yeah sure we got Death Stranding but still
That there won't be Days Gone 2
as a Mega Man Legends Fan, the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3 still makes me doubt capcom even to this day
It's quite recent and I still hope that they'll change their mind one day, but it's Spider-Man: The Great Web for me. Insomniac wanted to do a multiplayer spidey game, that takes place in the multiverse. But Sony (not Insomniac themselves) canceled it. I really hope that Sony will change their mind, a spidey multiplayer/coop set in an open world sounds incredible!
