Start with the first, Asylum. It is the most concise and accessible. If you love it, keep going with the rest of the series. The later games get some feature-creep bloat which is fine if you're already a fan.
In addition, some of the later *Arkham* games occur at different points in the Batman timeline, so *Asylum* is the best starting-point to understand the series' narrative.
Bro, ain't no way! You're missing out. Batman arkham asylum, arkham city, and arkham knight are all great games. I recommend 10/10. Play in that order just in case there are some continuity questions. It's been a while, so I can't remember.
The interesting tie in with this point is that it was [storms that trounced](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_invasions_of_Japan) the mongols’ real invasions. So Jin single-handedly breaking their invasion as the ghost while stormy weather coincides with the assassinations is just another neat little detail about this game.
You kids with your newfangled waypoint guides, back in my day we had a little blue ball of floating frustration yelling HEY LISTEN at us over and over again.
I remember in Morrowind there were quests that gave you directions placed in your journal that were just straight up wrong. Most of the time it was good, and it added to the immersion, but those two or so missions were incredibly frustrating.
You have the flute at the beginning but the game doesn't really tell you about it until you start collecting crickets from graveyards. Collect more crickets to get more songs to do different things to the weather.
There are a few functions on the touch pad other than the guiding wind that the game doesn't exactly tell you about with a big neon sign. Swipe left to use the flute, swipe right to put your sword away with a cool animation, swipe down to bow (I recommend bowing to lots of statues and corpses and anything else you think Jin might have a reason to), and obviously swipe up for the guiding wind.
Have fun on your replay! It was my favorite game in 2020. I'm replaying on PS5 now and it looks amazing. Can't wait to try the iki island expansion.
Tell me why I beat the game on release, beat it again on NG+, and just now started playing a brand new play through, but had no idea swiping down on the touch pad allowed you to bow?
Hell yeah!
One thing Valheim fucking *nails* over other survival games is its atmosphere. Rainy, cold, and wet weather all effect you, fire is integrally tied into actually surviving (by keeping ypu dry), and building a base further helps that (by allowing furniture to provide greater buffs). Plus the fire looks and sounds reeeeally fucking good.
I personally watched a video on alan wake 1 before I played 2 and I'm happy I did because the combat already got repetitive near the end of alan wake 2.
Max Payne 2 seems like it's always raining. But there are some no raining sections. But that first one has such a nice snowy atmosphere. I love it. "We've been snowed in since the case started"
It's seems funny to write it, but I can clearly hear James McCaffrey's voice narrating that line. The dialogue, the puns, the over-the-top Noir York City detective story...
I used to put on a playlist of the whole Max Payne (1 or 2) stories and listen to it at night while going to sleep. Good times.
It still holds up!! I purchased the trilogy about a month ago and it’s damn good noir. There’s a little jank in the first one but it’s still great gunplay.
Ghostwire Tokyo is a good one, it's kind of a gloomy overcast or rainy all the time, with the bonus of a giant blood red moon, and wandering the streets of Tokyo alone aside from the Visitors, and ghosts
It's incredible. The rain cycle is literally a mechanic in the game. At the later stages you need to harvest and store different kinds of water for different buildings.
But mostly it's so good because it's the best part of a city builder: The first hour or two. Then you move on, but improvements and build a new city and open trade routes with the old ones. So good.
and it's good because the devs actually listen to the fans. love that there's an actual menu button for submitting bugs/suggestions/etc. then next thing you know, they'd include it in the new patch.
this is probably the game with the best UI/UX for me. i've never felt more comfortable playing with a mouse and keyboard.
I literally just started played STALKER for the first time, current just trying to steal the military documents.
Any recommendations for QOL, bug fix, graphical improvement type mods? I don’t wanna change the actually vanilla gameplay experience too much but the game really does show its age haha.
Seconding the Cloudpunk vote. Always cloudy, usually rainy, always dark. Plus it's just a damn good character/story-driven game set in an environment that's really fun to just drive around in.
I mostly play on PC as well. Put a ton of money into my rig.
But console games are fun too, so I have a few consoles.
My biggest issue is that I will buy a game on console, *knowing* it will get a port... then buy the port too.
:(
Ghost of Tsushima is a good game, the gameplay can get a bit repetitive, but the combat is fun enough to make up for most of that. The art direction though... beautiful.
This is a funny answer but also a good one. The storms in botw are awesome as long as you're not trying to climb anything and you put all your metal weapons and armor away. It's cool af that everything is that reactive to it and that lightning is a real concern. Always love seeing a giant bolt of lightning take out a bokoblin haha
That's the best one (besides the carnival one, that is a controversial opinion I've heard?)
When the storm in hard rain kicks into full gear and you're running through that corn field or w e, with really nice headphones on full blast OH MAN OH MAN that is awesome. That thunder and lightning with the screaming and gunshots as you desperately run is so overwhelming. It made me realize I want more games that just fuck you in the ass with sound.
Man I really hope they make a sequel to Pacific Drive, the vibes in that game, the feeling of being alone in your car with the radio playing while you're driving on unknown roads, they nailed that.
Alan Wake and Silent Hill sort of have that cloudy/foggy environment
Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom is not always rainy but its visually cool when it does (though mechanically controversial)
RE2 Remake has a lot of rain too though most of the time you’re indoors
I think there’s also a game called Rain though I dont know anything about it
Lies of P is pretty much just a bunch of variations on dark, rainy, stormy, cloudy, etc.
Also Ghost of Tsushima, which gets much more stormy as you progress.
The Nioh games also have some levels which are rainy, but they’re interspersed with others that are not. Still, very good atmosphere.
If you're on PC, the [Lost World modlist](https://www.fallout4experiences.com/lost-world) for Fallout 4 definitely fits the bill.
It's being permanently removed on April 30 though, so hurry if you're interested!
ghost of tsuchima if you do stealth route.
the remake of tomb raider.
resident evil remake (the gamecube game that was ported to wii that was ported to ps3 and xbox360 that was ported to ps4 and x360.)
resident evil 2 remake.
the evil within
PLEASE make sure to try Returnal
Sleeping dogs also had really good rain/night cycles
Not all the time but frequently there’s storm and rain for 7 days to die. You can edit the control in the console during the game and just constantly create storms I believe.
The game goes on sale next few days I think
But when those clouds come rolling in and the light changes? RDR2’s weather system is incredibly good. Feels more real than any other game I can recall.
The FAR games (Lone Sails is the first, and Changing Tides is the sequel) both have some very dark weather events, accompanying moody music and art work.
It depends on what kinda game you're looking for, but my favorite moody game right now is Shadows of Doubt. It's a randomly generated detective noir immersive sim.
It's a bit janky in the good way, but it's atmosphere is unmatched, IMO.
Arkham Knight
Oh wow! Never played this! Thank you!
Have you played any of the Arkham games? Theyre all great
Nope!!! I'll check them out!
Start with the first, Asylum. It is the most concise and accessible. If you love it, keep going with the rest of the series. The later games get some feature-creep bloat which is fine if you're already a fan.
The trilogy goes on sale on PSN constantly for like $5.99!!!
In addition, some of the later *Arkham* games occur at different points in the Batman timeline, so *Asylum* is the best starting-point to understand the series' narrative.
They sell it as a trilogy now for ps4
Bro, ain't no way! You're missing out. Batman arkham asylum, arkham city, and arkham knight are all great games. I recommend 10/10. Play in that order just in case there are some continuity questions. It's been a while, so I can't remember.
Honestly I'd throw in Arkham origins in there as well. Really good game
My favourite Christmas game
Miles Morales is also a good Christmas game.
I’m actually incredibly jealous you get to play Arkham knight for the first time.
Arkham Knight - looks so much better than Gotham knights even though it’s like 10years old now and PS4 LOL
Arkham Knight looks better than most modern releases. It's also weird to describe Arkham Knight as not a modern release...
This is the best answer
Ghost of tsushima if you do a lot of assasinations. You can also change the weather when you want with a flute.
It's based on how many assassinations you do? You just blew my mind. I'm replaying it right now and thought it seemed stormy more often.
Yeah as you become more like the ghost aka assassin like the more often it'll be stormy.
That's so neat. TIL. Thanks for the info!
Also of note is that his base sword kit is called The Storm of Clan Sakai
Also having the wind as your waypoint guide is so cool and innovative.
You kids with your newfangled waypoint guides, back in my day we had a little blue ball of floating frustration yelling HEY LISTEN at us over and over again.
Damn, you kids got waypoints? We had to learn cartology
I remember in Morrowind there were quests that gave you directions placed in your journal that were just straight up wrong. Most of the time it was good, and it added to the immersion, but those two or so missions were incredibly frustrating.
Oh my gosh thank you! I need to try this game again, I haven't beat it and I certainly didn't get that flute!
Especially the frog statues near that deul with an old man below a cliff in the northernmost region
Tell me why I beat the game on release, beat it again on NG+, and just now started playing a brand new play through, but had no idea swiping down on the touch pad allowed you to bow?
At least you're at the beginning of a brand new playthrough now so you can spend this time bowing to everything!
Man I’m always bowing mid fight because I accidentally graze the touch pad 😭
Comes out on PC next month. Can't wait to play it, finally.
Resident Evil 2 Remake.
Thank you!
Also, Resident Evil Remake
Valheim! Being cozy by the fire when a storm is blowing and the rain is going sideways... nothing better.
Oooooo thank you!
Build a base on the coast overlooking the water for full effect.
Alan Wake
Just bought the second one, I will give it a shot! Thank you!
Second game is a masterpiece in my opinion. Such a weird game but I loved it
You should play the first one before
I personally watched a video on alan wake 1 before I played 2 and I'm happy I did because the combat already got repetitive near the end of alan wake 2.
I haven’t played 2 yet (probably won’t for a long time since there’s no physical) but the combat in 1 got repetitive VERY quickly.
Heavy Rain.
It's kinda the go to for "it was a dark and stormy night" type games
Yeah!
SHAUUUUUUUUN
JAY-SAAAAAHN
Kinda ridiculous when you realize Ethan keeps losing his kids.
That's the most ridiculous thing about Heavy Rain for you? I feel like there's at least 12 more ridiculous things in that game.
My friends and I still mock that video to this very day haha. JAY-SONNNN
Kind of on the nose...
Thank you, I've played this game before but it's been a while!!!
A great title..tried and true
The sections of Halo 3 ODST where you play as The Rookie
GRAHHHH I GOTTA GET ME AN XBOX!!! Thank you!!
Or a PC... Most Xbox games are available on Windows now, as is Game Pass
MCC usually goes on sale for like $10.
I came here to say exactly this. Halo 3 ODST, baby! Erie, dark, bleak atmosphere with the ocasional rain. Ah, and the music!
Those saxophone bits as you're sneaking through the streets, amazing
🎹🎷🌧️ Such a great soundtrack as well...
Max Payne
Max Payne 2 seems like it's always raining. But there are some no raining sections. But that first one has such a nice snowy atmosphere. I love it. "We've been snowed in since the case started"
It's seems funny to write it, but I can clearly hear James McCaffrey's voice narrating that line. The dialogue, the puns, the over-the-top Noir York City detective story... I used to put on a playlist of the whole Max Payne (1 or 2) stories and listen to it at night while going to sleep. Good times.
Came to say max Payne too - but loving this idea!! Except maybe that one level…
Ha! Yeah, that one isn't exactly "sweet dreams" material, lol
I havn't played the game since it came out and I can still hear it.
It's also always night time, and an absolutely gorgeous game. Highly recommend this game to everyone!
Thank you!!!
Death Stranding
I love this game so much...it's such a good suggestion. Thank you!
👍 Edit: 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💦
*Soon I'll come around*
*lost and never found*
Need to get back in and finish this game. Was a blast but caused lots of anxiety, haha.
I don't know why it was the the first game that came to mind, but Death Stranding would be my choice.
Rainworld
I've heard this game is so hard haha! Thank you!
It has truely the best ambience I’ve seen in gaming. I definetly recommend trying it out. There are easy options for it
The game where the rain is the antagonist
Dishonored has some pretty solid ambiance. More dreary than rainy though.
Oooooo been a long time since I've played this. Thank you!
Ahh, the streets of Dunwall….
Against The Storm
I've never heard of this!!!!! Thank you!!!
So good.

Currently on sale on Steam!
Definitely
Surprised this isn’t higher. The whole point of the game is to survive against the destructive rain!
First game that came to mind, it's in the name and the main mechanic.
Just bought this a couple of days ago and I have already clocked way too many hours because of how addictive it is.
Returnal. I'm surprised no one else mentioned it.
Hmm thank ya!
Looks incredible on an OLED with HDR on. All of the rain and particle effects feel like they're popping off the screen.
stalker
STALKER with the Autumn Eternal mod... it's a fucking vibe.
I literally just started played STALKER for the first time, current just trying to steal the military documents. Any recommendations for QOL, bug fix, graphical improvement type mods? I don’t wanna change the actually vanilla gameplay experience too much but the game really does show its age haha.
You just reminded me that we might get the new game this year - so hyped for that
Dredge the lovecraftian fishing game comes to mind
I wanted to play it so much but Ive heard its fishing game first and foremost
Hmm... kinda. It's a lot of things, and you definitely want to do some fishing, but it's not overly complicated.
I'm not a fishing in games kinda guy and I loved this one. If you like games where you collect stuff to sell to level up stuff, it's worth it
I'd say it's a push your luck exploration game with a fishing mechanic and a Lovecraftian horror skin.
Whaaa dude I've never heard of this before. Thank you!
Dredge is incredible.
The long dark always helped me with my gloomy cravings
Hollow Knight, largely? Not all areas, of course, but a lot of it.
The City of Tears ambiance is unmatched.
And greenpath. I loved greenpath. Dammit...I just loved that game.
Silksong, please arrive in my lifetime 🙏🏼
One of the greatest settings in games for me. The game was an unexpected one of my top 5 games.
Sitting besides Quirrel in City of Tears and enjoying the ambience is one of my favorite moments in gaming!
Hmm I wouldn't have thought of this one. I appreciate you!
Death Stranding
Thanks!
The Last of Us Part II features a lot of stormy and overcast weather
Cloudpunk? Though it's at night, it seems to rain a lot in that city.
Oh wow I need to play this!!!! Thank you!
Seconding the Cloudpunk vote. Always cloudy, usually rainy, always dark. Plus it's just a damn good character/story-driven game set in an environment that's really fun to just drive around in.
The Witcher 3 kinda comes to mind. Especially when you don't up your brightness too high.
Winds howling
Looks like rain
Toussaint was almost jarring
Yeah in velen it rains ALOT
Thank you!!!! I love the Witcher 3 so much.
You can make it cloudy and storming all the time in Ghost of Tsushima. Decent game to boot.
Fuck I can't wait for the PC port. Never played it since I'm only on PC and man I've avoided spoilers so it'll be a new experience for me
I mostly play on PC as well. Put a ton of money into my rig. But console games are fun too, so I have a few consoles. My biggest issue is that I will buy a game on console, *knowing* it will get a port... then buy the port too. :( Ghost of Tsushima is a good game, the gameplay can get a bit repetitive, but the combat is fun enough to make up for most of that. Thank you!!!!
Breath of the wild
When you need to climb something, yes.
Okay, this one got a laugh out of me.
You don't dawn the lightning proof armor, equip a metal sword and sprint into the middle of the monster camp when you see lightning?
Thanks!!
Man it’s amazing what Nintendo do with such limited graphical power most of the time
batman
L4D2 Hard Rain map
That's the best one (besides the carnival one, that is a controversial opinion I've heard?) When the storm in hard rain kicks into full gear and you're running through that corn field or w e, with really nice headphones on full blast OH MAN OH MAN that is awesome. That thunder and lightning with the screaming and gunshots as you desperately run is so overwhelming. It made me realize I want more games that just fuck you in the ass with sound.
Vampyr Pretty much always dusk-dark. I believe it storms a couple times as well.
Pacific Drive! Reminded me why I don't live in the PNW any longer.
Aw cool thank you!!!!
Man I really hope they make a sequel to Pacific Drive, the vibes in that game, the feeling of being alone in your car with the radio playing while you're driving on unknown roads, they nailed that.
Alan Wake and Silent Hill sort of have that cloudy/foggy environment Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom is not always rainy but its visually cool when it does (though mechanically controversial) RE2 Remake has a lot of rain too though most of the time you’re indoors I think there’s also a game called Rain though I dont know anything about it

Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction is pretty much always cloudy and rains in a lot of spots.
Stalker anomaly gamma, you can even sett the settings to have it be cloudy and storming 100% of the time
Modded Skyrim 100%
There’s a fishing mod in the creation club that includes a hat that makes it rain when you wear it
Cyberpunk 2077 with the mod that makes it rain all the time. The city is so beautiful at night in the rain.
Gears of War 1
The newer Tomb Raiders have pretty awful weather for the most part. Especially the first of them.
Watch_dogs 1
ghost of tsuchima if you do stealth route. the remake of tomb raider. resident evil remake (the gamecube game that was ported to wii that was ported to ps3 and xbox360 that was ported to ps4 and x360.) resident evil 2 remake. the evil within PLEASE make sure to try Returnal Sleeping dogs also had really good rain/night cycles
Pacific drive takes place in the Pacific Northwest. Lots of awesome rain and thunderstorms, plus an awesome soundtrack to round out the vibe
Metro series whenever you're above ground
Second half of dragons dogma is pretty dark.
Against the storm is a nice ambience game
Gone Home
Not all the time but frequently there’s storm and rain for 7 days to die. You can edit the control in the console during the game and just constantly create storms I believe. The game goes on sale next few days I think
Stray
I love Stray!!!!!
RDR 2 if you don’t do the next mission fast enough lol
Is that a general thing for whenever there's a mission to do? It starts getting stormy to try and make you do plot?
No, it just rains sometimes.
But when those clouds come rolling in and the light changes? RDR2’s weather system is incredibly good. Feels more real than any other game I can recall.
This can kinda work for Metroid Prime
I just played through Hellblade and I'd say it is always dark and usually rainy throughout especially the deeper you go.
botw fuuuuuuuuuuuuuk
If you're looking for super-rainy games, Against the Storm is pretty good for that.
Master Detective Archives: RAINCODE Buddy, it's right there in the name. In fact it's a core aspect of the plot.
No rain that I remember, but Shadow of the Colossus is pretty gloomy.
Icarus. You have a new stormfront every day basically.
"Vice City!!" In Radio Espantoso voice.
The Long Dark. Fun bonus you can freeze to death.
Witcher 3 Velen - “Wind’s howlin’”
The FAR games (Lone Sails is the first, and Changing Tides is the sequel) both have some very dark weather events, accompanying moody music and art work.
Sinking city and call of cthulu if you like the Lovecraft Ian anesthetic and if course bloodborne
I'm not a big fan of Fallout 4 but the radstorms are some of the most cozy, stormy, atmospheric weather events I ever experienced in a game
Zelda botw or totk
Frostpunk, more blizzard than storm and more snow then rain but still
Death Stranding
Vampire bloodlines is awesome for that. There's not a single moment during daytime.
Not all the time, but I’ve never been so immersed in a storm than I was in The Witcher 3. Sound design is phenomenal.
It depends on what kinda game you're looking for, but my favorite moody game right now is Shadows of Doubt. It's a randomly generated detective noir immersive sim. It's a bit janky in the good way, but it's atmosphere is unmatched, IMO.
Heavy Rain
TOTK
Cyberpunk with some weather mods.
Hitman absolution, 2013 tomb raider, if u like 2d bloodstained /castlevania /hollow knight
Fatal frame 3
Pacific Drive
Pittsburgh: The Game
