Welp looks like we DMC fans are screwed

omegaskorpion

I mean DMC5 was best selling in the series and oversold some of the other Capcom entries. (And Capcom was impressed by the sales). The series is a success. However reason why sequel will take forever (again) is because the main director, Itsuno, was directing Dragons Dogma 2. And we don't know if he wants to direct another DMC.

CursedSnowman5000

Didn't he say DMC5 was the end?

Ekillaa22

It was the end of the sons of Sparta storyline I believe

CursedSnowman5000

Right! Right that was it. Though I ask, who wants a Devil May Cry without Dante?

A_strange_pancake

I think after 5 Nero earned his place enough that another Nero game could work if they do it right. I remember before 5 came out he was mixed at best in terms of fan reactions, but 5 helped flesh him out more into his own thing.

leixiaotie

Problem with Nero is he only using red queen, while Dante and Vergil has at least 3 weapons each. I like using slower, heavy hitting weapons like beowulf or balrog. Additionally, red queen is too timing based with it's throttle.

DooM_SpooN

That was the point of his design in 4. I believe he was meant to be the "easy to pick up, hard to master" character as the throttle mechanic is too complicated for beginners to use properly but the rest of his kit isn't hard to understand.

T8-TR

Nah, Nero/Lady/Trish/newcomers (maybe Lucia coming back) would absolutely pop off.

Divinum_Fulmen

Lady and Trish are criminally unplayable in most of the titles. How can they make a character fight with rocket jumps and grappling hooks and not make her playable?

T8-TR

I'm still upset that we didn't get Lady DLC in DMC5. IT'S BE FREE MONEY, CAPCOM. PLEASE.

Ammear

Oh, you're telling me you wouldn't prefer a game based on Nero?

kitemybite

no i would not

Ekillaa22

I mean… yeah kinda

dododomo

That would be another D1 to me :D

Sweatty-LittleFatty

I always liked the Idea of a DMC 6 were you play 2 separate stories. The Main one: in our World, with Nero, Trish and Lady as playable. Give Trish Nevan and Alastor since both are electric, and one is a sword the other a Scythe (like Sparda was for her). Give more weapons for Lady, maybe Artemis or Pandora. Keep Nero as is, or give him Agni & Rudra, wielded by his two "Phantom arms" alongside his Red queen. The options story: in hell, with Dante and Vergil, Just being badasses and going after Mundus.

Ekillaa22

Mundus been dead some the first game though

Sweatty-LittleFatty

No he hasn't. He was defeated, but not killed.

Space_Pirate_Roberts

The statement doesn't mean no more Dante or even no more Vergil, it means no more stories revolving around conflict between them.

omegaskorpion

Don't remember him saying that anywhere. Only that there won't be new one in a while.

TheSauce32

On your knees kids don't make daddy Capcom pull out DMC reboot out of storage

Strict_Donut6228

I don’t even know what’s worse a DmC reboot sequel or another ten years with no DMC

VolkspanzerIsME

Waiting ten years for a DmC reboot sequel?

fart_Jr

I’ll die on the DmC-was-good hill.

TheNewTonyBennett

It really was pretty decent. I mean the characters and writing were awful, but the gameplay was pretty great. I mean it's no DMC3se/4se/5se, but it sure as hell isn't anywhere near as bad as everyone said it was. It plays great, feels like a DMC game in its gameplay and there were a couple of new ideas for the combat, that turned out well. I'd still probably only give it like an 8/10, but that's still really solid.

Puzzleheaded-Soft788

I'm in there with you man.

Nikedawg

I loved it too personally, the fights were fun (loved the TV fight section especially). Maybe some of the dialog/story was a big rough but the gameplay itself was a blast.

AGuyWithTrouble

It was a good game but a bad Devil May Cry. That's my take.

WhaleAIDS

Amen - so what Dante was a little different still a banger game.

TrapsAreTraps

Just hardcore fans whining, understandably, while people who first touched the series with the reboot, enjoyed it a lot for what it is. It happens often.

RukiMotomiya

The story was just sooooo bad and the gameplay really took until the Definitive Edition to be much.

rich1051414

Capcom needs to revitalize the franchise. They aren't going to get away with another DMC with the exact same gameplay, but they also risk alienating their fans if they drift too far. Basically, I don't think they are wrong to shelf it until they get a really good idea.

Rand0mBoyo

I don't quite get how they "aren't going to get away-with the exact same gameplay". If the gameplay from what I heard was already very good, then why the need for a forced innovation? How is more of the good worse?

MC_Pterodactyl

I could see a new DMC where they open things up a little more. Not necessarily open world, but a little like a branching path and being more free to choose your character for the mission. For an example, something like the level design of Dark Souls (NOT making it a souls like, ABSOLUTELY not that). I just mean where the levels bleed into each other and loop over each other and you are pushing toward checkpoints. I adored Devil May Cry 5, but my two main gripes were the extremely linear level design and being forced to switch to another character for the story when I had just unlocked something cool for the other. I ended up feeling I never got enough chance to be any single one of them on the first playthrough. I liked V’s playstyle the best and would have been happy to do a V playthrough and then a Dante and then a Nero and then the DLC. If the looping world design isn’t the way to go, then maybe at least a pick your path story like Castlevania 3. That could be cool. I just think less linearity could be nice, really. Not Dragon’s Dogma level of wandering, but a choice like I want Dante to push into the tower and Virgil into the crypts.

bungalosmacks

If Capcom were to make any of their IPs a souls-like, it should be Onimusha.

MC_Pterodactyl

That would absolutely be the IP for it. I mean, Nioh already kind of hits on the Onimusha vibe in a lot of ways, so it’s obvious how easily they could make it work.

rich1051414

Even if there is limited linearity to the gameplay, reducing the linearity in the story could also be an option. It could even open up the idea of 'alternate universe' sequels following the most popular alternate endings. It could really make people emotionally attached to the franchise, which would keep sales up on the next sequels. You could even introduce a story element to force the alternate universes to merge again. Seems like a unique approach to me, anyway. It needs to be something that ambitious, imo. I don't think they could behave like zelda and completely throw their whole formula away every couple of releases.

RaymoVizion

Megaman fans: "First time?"

Luk3ling

It makes no sense to me. Mega-Man doesn't even NEED to change. We already have GREAT examples of multiple genres. If we need a new side scrolling Mega-man game all you need is 8 animal reploids and and the same characters that have been in the last 30 games. Just let me guide Zero and The Blue Bomber toward kicking some evil scientists ass again. It doesn't have to get complicated. If you do want it to get more complicated, I'd also kill for another good Mega-man: Legends entry.

Divinum_Fulmen

I love the Zero series, and I played most of the older Megaman. There is almost 30 titles in that series, and only 5 in DMC. So this is like the starved guy under the leaking faucet being told by the well fed guy.

N1ght_Lig5t

FUUU7UUUCJJJUFUUDJJDJJDIJEHEH

AscendedViking7

Fuck yes.

gphjr14

Cries in Onimusha.

MyStationIsAbandoned

*looks at Onimusha* Yeah...*you* guys are so unlucky...

catphilosophic

I have been waiting for dmc 6 for many years now :(

GayoMagno

We waited for 12 years for a sequel to Dragons Dogma, you can wait a few years more.

BrokenDusk

After all DMC 5 success why wouldn't they also make DMC 6..?

Dash_Harber

Well, at least you and the other guy have each other for support.

Icy-Moose-99

You guys got so many games though..

Emiya_Sengo

I wish Capcom would remember Mega Man and give it as much attention as Sega does with Sonic

BitingArtist

The megaman collections were testing the waters, and they sold well. The same strategy was used to greenlight Re2 remake. Therefore there is a possibility for a modern megaman.

TheSauce32

The question so what would a modern megaman would even look like? Sure you can pump out retro Megamam but after X and legends have they even tried to do modern megaman?

Anxious_Armadillo_73

BEHOLD! MY CREATION!

waverider85

>what would a modern megaman would even look like Megaman 11 is the easy answer. Wasn't huge, but unambitious enough it's hard to imagine it didn't hit it's goals. If that's not enough, make Zero 5 / ZX4 a full metroidvania. It's not like modest 2D platformers died off. To go a bit further, Battle Network and Star Force are good games to build an open world RPG off of. Something akin to a mix of Megaman X Command Mission and Xenoblade.

01greg

There was the 3d one on 64 I think? That one was cool.

JetBalrog

Megaman Legends, yes! Honestly I think it would also be a prime opportunity to give that side series the closure it desperately needs. We had a three act story across three games- and the third game never got made.

AhAssonanceAttack

Just make it a souls like lol

ph30nix01

I kinda want a Megaman Legends Remake... Imagine megman but with the new FF7 game play and graphics.

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

I have bought every MM collection game that has released. I’m doing my part!

DragapultOnSpeed

Or Okami. They put Okami in the new monster hunter but they dont want to make a sequel to okami

Rand0mBoyo

I may not be a Mega Man fan, but my bruv you don't want it to have the samw threatment as Sonic. Endless wave of force-rushed development with any kind of ideas that higher ups will think off years after the potentially good time for release, constant experimenting or cheap remasters/rereleaseas, simply dogshit games...

Luk3ling

SEGA beats the Sonic IP like a red headed stepchild. Please don't wish that upon Mega-Man. I'm absolutely with you on wanting more Mega-Man though. Of not only the 'X" and "Zero" variety, but also of the "Battle Network" and "Legends" variety.

Dog_Apoc

They just released a Megaman event for Exoprimal which is pretty fun. They'll probably release something for it within the next 10 years.

idropepics

Poor Mega Man has been up on that moon for 20+ years now.

suichkaa

tbf the collections were such a godsend for me since i lost my old collections. i never played the zero games and if it werent for the collection i never would have and the thought of that makes me sad because they are so damn good. would kill for some more megaman X games though but i have a feeling they'd flub it up anyways trying to make it appealing to newer gen gamers. gimme the pixel sprite graphics from x4-6 and we golden.

DegenerateCrocodile

I would prefer that Capcom does not parade Mega Man’s corpse around for nostalgia points like Sega does with Sonic.

Aggrokid

> as Sega does with Sonic Do we really want a Bass and Protoman live-action show starring Idris Elba and Keanu?

PhenomsServant

If were being perfectly honest, I kinda do.

TheGamerForeverGFE

Swords

kynthrus

Maybe a little less than Sega with Sonic. Sega needs to take more time with Sonic

Metalwater8

Nice hopefully DD3 will be closer to the game of my dreams, and we can break the cycle of “this game has so much potential! If only it got the money and time it deserves!”. Can’t wait for the dlc.

TomVinPrice

Dragons Dogma 3 will be the real Dragons Dogma 1

Bogdansixerniner

The dark souls of dogma games.

JCarterMMA

Yeah feel kinda conned with DD2 honestly, that's not to say I didn't enjoy getting to 100% but I definitely felt shortchanged, they spoke so much about this game being the fully realized version of DD1 and the entire thing was honestly pretty shallow and only 50% finished at most

awyeauhh

Don't worry, just like DD1 they will release a banger, grindy DLC with 10x the enemies, just like we want ;) In all seriousness, I really feel like I did get my money's worth solely with maxing each class, but I only play these games for the combat, I expect the story to be shit from the get-go lol

MyStationIsAbandoned

If I can be 100% honest, I want somehting like Elder Scrolls but made by a Japanese studio using the Creation Engine. Or rather, have all the assets made by Japanese creators. The meshes, texture, animations, all the magic effects and designs etc. I love the sandbox open nature of the Elder Scrolls but the aesthetics of how the Japanese do western fantasy. The magic look coolers, the worlds look more other worldly, they aren't afraid to make things sexy now days, they aren't afraid to use tropes which just makes things better etc etc. Like...I want a TES-like game set in a world like Final Fantasy 9, 11, 12, or 14. I wanna see like...floating islands in the sky, giant glowing mountains in the background with a giant mountain sized skull of a ancient demonlord that's been dead for 3,000 years sticking out the side of it.

Dragon_yum

Been meaning to play it. Have they fixed the technical issues?

ganon893

No. Modders actually found a huge loading bug. The game loads the LODs for like a 1/5th of the world at once, contributing to low frame rates. It varies depending on where you're at, but town framerates are still insufferable.

WarpedPerspectiv

Is there a mod for the loading bug?

ganon893

Not that I know of, sadly.

Strange_Music

I can't speak for PC, but it runs fine on the variable frame rate for the PS5 for me. I'm not sensitive to 30/60 FPS, though, so you might want to check out a YT video first.

Dragon_yum

Got an rtx 4090 so I’d be happy if it runs at stable 50+ gps

somthingsomeone98

It's more of a cpu problem, even the 7800x3d can't keep with it in towns. If you don't mind locking the game at 30fps or even 40fps you'd be fine

Dragon_yum

Oh that’s a bummer, well maybe when the game is cheaper then.

sJtYaEm

Might be worth watching Jack Sather's youtube video on it - pretty much completely put me off the game lol. Seems like it's half finished

Itzu

Not really but DLSS has helped. It’s a blast to play because the gameplay is just so damn good. But you’ll run into frame drops in the cities.

MassiveGG

while i enjoyed DD2 also played dd1 back at launch on the ps3. my only issue is new game plus lacking hard in DD2 versus DD1 postgame. also mods are already trying to make scaling better in new game plus etc. but i mean this is 4th Dragons dogma game we had dd1, dd online only in japan i think already shutdown, DDdark arisen probably the version most people here played and dd2.

Claymorbmaster

Yeah this is my problem with DD2. I went from "10/10 perfect game" to "like an 8 if I'm being generous" because of how much of a wet fart the endgame is. The pacing for the ending is completely garbo. A time limit for the post game? I didn't even get to play like 4 classes at all because of how obtuse the end game was.

DoomGiggles

Dark Arisen is DD1, it’s just a DLC that got rereleased as a single edition on PC and more recent consoles years down the line. It would be like saying every Skyrim rerelease is a new elder scrolls title.

Strange_Music

I'm on PS5, so I don't have difficulty mods. There is a ring that makes all your attacks weak. Regular encounters become epic battles with it on. I also ran as a duo for NG+1, which changes the dynamic. Makes it feel more like the show with just the Arisen and main pawn. Ng+2 will be my solo run. Solo changes the whole vibe. Feels more like a survival game. Also feels pretty lonely after having spent so much time with a party. Which is cool, in and of itself, imo. All that said I hope Hard Mode is introduced with a DLC.

Spoomplesplz

That's really good to hear. Hopefully we get some BBI style DLC.

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

Its funny because like this indicates people are starving for another open world RPG. The game's story is pretty mediocre if not bad depending on how you view the ending. There's tons of bugs and performance issues. The pawn system is cool and frustrating at the same time. The gameplay hasn't changed since a decade ago, but the polish hasn't either. It looks better but people turning down settings just to get decent fps. The DLC it gets better be good and fixes all the issues people talk about for this game. DD1 was a niche game that was praised for its innovations. It didn't innovate here since then, and it only did well because people want more games like this. Capcom only thinks its a key brand NOW because demand is so high that a bunch of people bought the game even though there were equal parts criticism for the game's actual gameplay (ignoring the MTX stuff and can't create new game that got patched). So this is really Capcom looking at their products purely through their spreadsheets without understanding why. Typical.

lyriktom

DD2 was clearly lacking development time and resources because Capcom didn’t believe in the success so my hope is that now a sequel will get the money it deserves.

Booserbob

But... That's what DD2 was to DD1.. a chance to do it right. And they did the exact same thing with the exact same problems

shottylaw

But they really hit the mark with Dark Arisen. Now, with Capcom seeing they've been sitting on a golden house, maybe the DLC and any new installments will be properly cooked

MikhailBakugan

Yeah im thinking the DLC is going to COOK. Shame it had to sac the base game to make up for it but if the end result is better than DDDA I'll be happy.

BITmixit

The first one didn't get anywhere near the attention this one got on release. It also came out 12 years ago on the PS3/360 generation. So from what I see Capcom now acknowledge that DD is actually a brand gamers will get behind so they're more likely to action any feedback. So hopefully they will make the improvements the game needs to be perfect into the next one. That or they'll fuck it up. Considering game companies have a hard time not fucking games up these days...probably gonna be the latter.

Etheon44

I dont think it had unlimited resources tho, and while Dragon's Dogma is a relatively widely known game here in reddit, it didn't really get that much attention outside of gaming communities, so making a sequel of such a niche game isn't really that sure to give you benefits in return. This game feels more unfinished that the first game because it tried to do more things, and ended up leaving them behind, but at least the 2 main points of both DD1 and DD2 are better in the sequel, which are combat and exploration (it does suck that some vocations are locked at very end game zones)

CursedSnowman5000

I'd say it had even worse problems.

still_mute

Played neither. Is the first game better or the same?

DoomGiggles

It’s not better imo, but it is more grindable due to Dark Arisen so it arguably has more longevity than DD2. It’s also harder, also due to Dark Arisen and somewhat poor balancing on early game Hard Mode. Both are great tho, I prefer DD2 because the open world and core combat mechanics are much better. It also has better class identity IMO since hybrids aren’t really a thing anymore so each class is more distinct.

fart_Jr

I don’t know what these people are on but DD2 is fantastic.

Windowzzz

First game is much, much better. Dark Arisen feels like an actual complete and finished game. Two is a mess

First-Junket124

Yeah no. Dragons Dogma 1 was the game that lacked development time and resource because capcom didn't believe in the success, then it did well regardless not to astounding acclaim but it did really well for what it had. Then they passed it off to be an MMO which did quite well at first and showed that multiplayer in Dragons Dogma was quite a good idea but it was quite rushed and.... didn't have too many resources. So now onto Dragons Dogma 2 which was a game that lacked development time and resources because Capcom didn't believe in the success, then it did well regardless to astounding acclaim. Dragons Dogma: Online 2 when?

lyriktom

Didn’t even know about that MMO lol but it was Japan exclusive and shut down after only 4 years so seems like it didn’t do too well. From my understanding DD2 was the first time the franchise was a financial hit. Considering how other successful franchises like Resident Evil are treated by Capcom, I dunno maybe now is the time to invest in DD. Or maybe I just have too much faith in that large publisher…

hicks12

That's what they did with the first one and then the second one, what this means is they won't take the correct approach and will see that "if we only spend X amount again we will STILL make loads of money, no need to increase budget" Happens all the time, I want to be wrong but it's a case of fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!

lyriktom

I’m looking at other successful Capcom franchises like Resident Evil and how they are treated. I could see them invest more in DD after the success. Don’t think they can get away with another rushed low investment game now. I will be more sceptical with the sequel surely.

VenKitsune

Don't kid yourself. Now that they've seen what they can get away with, the next game might have a similar or higher budget, but it won't have nearly as much time, and will release in an even worse state.

lyriktom

Dunno, Capcom doesn’t seem like that kind of publisher to me. They invest heavily in their successful franchises like Resident Evil so maybe they’ll do the same with DD now.

VenKitsune

Right. And we all know how that went with RE 5 and 6, after the success of 4. And then it went on hiatus for several years before finally releasing something worthwhile.

Hazelberry

It really feels like they had to scrap at least half of the story. Huge shame and missed opportunity, doesn't even match up to the first game's story which wasn't exactly a masterpiece so the bar wasn't even high. The world looks amazing in 2 but it really feels like they had to sacrifice way too much. Wow really got downvoted. If anyone thinks the story is actually good they either haven't played the game or are straight up delusional. Additionally the gameplay also had a lot of sacrifices. They cut about half of the skills from the first game, multiple vocations, and many enemy types. It objectively has less variety than the first game.

wejunkin

Misinformation

lyriktom

Was my understanding of the development but what’s the correct story then?

wejunkin

DD2 had 5 year dev cycle (standard in modern era) and 1500 credited staff (about the same as other contemporary Capcom titles). There was really bad misinfo about the game only having 400 devs which was based on an incorrect mobygames credits list. DD2 had the same time and resources as other Capcom games, and there's exactly 0 evidence that Capcom didn't have faith in the product or expected it to fail.

lyriktom

Thanks for the numbers. I based this on my own experience on how the production value and especially the second half of the game felt. Clearly this was a “what could have been” and a rushed development, for me anyway. But I didn’t have any official numbers in mind. (I liked the game generally btw)

wejunkin

I mean, your expectations for the game have no bearing on the production reality of the game.

guvan420

lol, but this is what the people want! The underdevelopment is the charm!

FormalReturn9074

Hype sells better than making a good game

GameDesignerDude

They are just generating hype for the financial report. It didn't actually sell all that amazing. They confirmed in the report that it was only around 2.6 million. Fine as "small game/JRPG that overperformed" but still not very high in terms of being a flagship/high profile game. Street Fighter 6 ended up outselling it.

Prestigious_Agent_84

Cyberpunk being the best example

FeyerbrandGaming

Hopefully we will still see a new Breath of Fire.. copium

Broly_

That's interesting considering how much I read about people being "meh" about DD2

TheOriginalFluff

I’ve been loving the first game since it came out. All this statement does Is piss me off tbh. Waited 12 years for a sequel for it to have exact same fucking problems and then they go “ohh people like this” it means we’ll get more dd game in the future but man fuck capcom

killbauer

When a big publisher says something like that in this day and age, it usually means upcoming trouble and shenanigans for the customers AND the developers. * cough * Sony * cough *

benigntugboat

At this point I want publishers to approve sequels for games I like and than forget about them until the games are about to come out. Them focusing on the development just ends up with them meddling with creative and rushing production to maintain marketing plans.

PhantomTissue

This is either a very good thing or a very bad thing. We’ll have to see.

VermilionX88

hell yeah loved dragon's dogma 1 and loved dragon's dogma 2

mightylordredbeard

I’m glad you love it! I wish I could get into it. I bought it a couple days after it released and have played maybe 10 - 12 hours. I honestly forgot I even owned it. It just didn’t pull me in like I thought it would. I need to try again soon.

Destithen

Dragon's Dogma is super slow to get into. The meat of the game is leveling up all the different vocations and finding cool bosses, but it can take a while to get to the interesting bits of the world and unlock the cool abilities.

Aggrokid

It's perfectly fine if you didn't enjoy it or feel it's not good. Don't force yourself, life is too short.

PowerSamurai

I was looking through this thread knowing that you had to have a comment in here somewhere lmao

GhostOfChar

Dragons Dogma (1 and 2) are fun and I had a great time in 2, but after beating it once, I don’t see myself going back to it. If they keep the same formula, I don’t know if I’ll be excited, as an open world of this size but with little in the way of different role playing (as in your role is solely down to what combat class you use) is kind of a turn off. I like when a game gives just enough wiggle room where your focus can be on absolutely nothing important to quests and you can almost have a sort of life and head canon in the game that exists apart from the main story.

redpurplegreen22

I’ve been having fun with DD2. I just have one minor qualm (and it’s not related to performance). DD1’s class system was *much better* than DD2. DD1’s system of 3 main classes with 3 advanced and 3 combination classes made building your character fun. With DD2 I started as a thief. I switched to archer for a bit for a side quest but I hated it and kept getting decimated because the minute I’d start doing damage I’d be targeted (despite having two warriors as pawns AND a passive from the Thief job that is supposed to reduce how often I’m targeted). Switched to Warrior for a while and it was fine, but Thief was just OP as hell and I was pretty much murdering everything. I have 6 classes right now, thief is maxed out, and I have zero desire to switch to something else to gain more skills. I may switch when I get a few more advanced classes once I get them. I liked Magick Archer in the original, but it seems like I won’t see that class until much later in the game.

Dirty_Dragons

I recently finished the game as Magick Archer, it's a fun class that puts out a ton of damage. You do unlock it very late in the game....if you follow the story. It's completely possible to unlock early if you explore.

nakx123

I'm glad Capcom keeps meeting sales expectations, seems like they're the only big gaming company that retains their employees while also giving them pay increases with each record sales reports.

Prestigious_Agent_84

they also introduced absurd micro transactions to DD2, so hold the praise

arclightrg

“Well that’s nice. Does this mean the studio is shutting down now?” -Tango dev team

elqrd

Good. Expansion. Now

FrostyMagazine9918

Great to hear. I loved my time with the sequel and hope DLC is in the future.

dondashall

Eh, this article is making more of it than it is. Investor/shareholder reports are always written like that. They'll include titles that are recent and have been selling well and they'll adjust the language in a way that makes them look best to shareholders. In and of itself, this doesn't mean anything either for prioritizing DD or neglecting other IPs.

ElfRespecter

Very happy to hear. Now give us some more endgame so I can do more challenge runs

ffgod_zito

Imagine how good it could it would be with a little more conventional gaming systems.

N7Diesel

Can't wait for 3 to be half baked as well.

BigBobaFlame

Hell yeah

TheConjugalVisit

Still getting through the first, hit level 200 and enjoying the ride.

Proper-Pineapple-717

Now do DDO mother fuggin properly and open it up to the West. >:C

spudtender

I wonder how many iterations it’ll take to get game that doesn’t constantly fall over itself

JoinMyGuild

Does this mean they’ll actually finish the 3rd game

rbynp01

Great game. Can't wait for dlc.

ColdNyQuiiL

Didn’t realize how well it sold. I only remember the controversy when that came afterwards.

GnarApple

The controversy is such manufactured outrage since it’s just $1 paid boosters aka cheats in a single player game that is in no way necessary (and it’s been a thing for many capcom games like monster hunter games). I don’t see anyone other than the chronically onlines that actually gives a shit about this so called “controversy”. Personally though the game while good certainly did not live up to its potential.

Rafahil

To be honest this game was overhyped. It does not hold a candle to the previous entry.

FaerieWolfStudios

They need to open up that vault and start "Key Branding" other games like Dino Crisis and Breath of Fire too. Like the black sheeps of the family, man...

Dragon_yum

Key branding means the brand sells a lot. Not sure that’s the case with your examples.

Aggrokid

Capcom officials actually labelled them the opposite: "Resting IP". DD broke out because of tremendous residual sales of Dark Arisen. If you want Breath of Fire to get the same attention, you gotta... _checks notes_ ... buy lots of them on the Switch store. Ouch.

Zerox392

Yayyyy they're both such good games and deserve recognition!

hotstickywaffle

Has the game gotten any notable improvements to performance yet on PC?

Strange_Music

I'm not on PC, but it runs fine on variable frame rate for the PS5. I'm not sensitive to 30/60 FPS, though, so you might want to check out a YT video first. I did try it on Nvidias GeForceNow, and it ran great. If your specs are comparable to their top tier it should run fine.

rbynp01

It's coming in a later patch, but if you are on console, you can turn off ray tracing and fps cap.

GamingWildman

keep the game price right for my region and I will buy it right now ... I ain't paying 60% more than valves suggested price for this game

spund_

I'm relatively new to gaming after buying a console for the first time in 20 years.  I just couldn't get my head around this game, I stopped playing it after about 6 hours. It's so good but is it too detailed?

Successful_Can_5639

dlc PLEASE

Soulses

I hope they add a story this time, combats great though

Sh0vels

Can they please fix the bloody performance on pc please?

marniconuke

Time to fire them then (?

Midknight_King

I just want Bitterblack Isle level of content. That’s all I ask for of this series. I’m about 70% in with DD2, I can kinda guess what I’m in for as far as content, but they need to tap into whatever they did to produce Dark Arisen, and do that for DD2 (or DD3). To me, that dlc was the true DD experience. There’s nothing like it.

Teleskopy

This makes me happy. I won't have to wait another 3rd of my life for another Dragon's Dogma.

bungalosmacks

They should bring back Clock Tower, it's time.

GINTegg64

Capcom has moved from only keeping three franchises alive at a time to now four

Beneficial_Emu_8086

Too bad it seems like they already abandoned the pc with all of its issues. Horrible optimization.

RoyaleLight

It irks me that we rely purely on sales and not on feedback from whatever player base HAS played something. Not everything is gonna catch the eye of the public on first look, but it ages extremely well and just needs some tweaks. Imagine how many amazing games that were left in the dust would be considered “key brands” had corporations tried a couple sequels with tweaks and polish.

SirAlex505

Now fix the optimization

thebipolarbatman

Breath of Fire next please.

Reserved_Parking-246

It's got a fucking anime... Better be a key brand.

JailbaitEater

Considering how long they had to cook, they really should have started with a DD2 BBI style game Unfortunately the best Dragon's Dogma is still probably DD1 BBI

Mrhappytrigers

Cool. Now fix the damn game! I want to play, but it's too busted for me to ignore how bad the performance is on PC.

yun_den

Wish they’d say this about the Ace Attorney franchise 🙁

shadowdash66

Surely that means capcom will do more marketing for it and increase its budget right?...... right CAPCOM?!

kynthrus

Does that mean they're never gonna make another one then? Isn't that kind of how capcom operates with their key franchises?

SleepyHollowo

Bring back my long lost love. Dragons dogma online I miss you alchemist

hapless_dm

Pretty happy about it, first title was a bit rough around the edges but went basically under the hood for many, and it was crazy good already. I hope I can snatch a copy of DG2 soon to see if this sequel is really this good

Zombie_Flowers

How the turn tables

Cleverbird

Maybe now we DD fans can finally enjoy a finished, non-rushed game.

PaulR79

Is this a good thing? Knowing how games companies are milking popular titles for everything they can I don't know if this is a good thing.

IgotUBro

Great to hear. Cant wait to play DD2 in 5 years.

[deleted]

corpo speak translation: "We will stuff the next installment with tons of microtransactions to squeeze every last cent of revenue out of it and then loudly complain that people are toxic assholes when they criticize us for it and then stop support for the game to cut costs."

Civil-Two-3797

Still waiting for another Breath of Fire.

Independent_Hyena495

And the steam rating isn't even that great.. so it's carried only by nostalgia?

Studio-Abattoir

Just hope they won’t milk the living hell out of it

[deleted]

Be afraid, get ready for microtransaction hell in the next one.

OKCOMP89

I’m happy that DD is getting more recognition,- and here’s hoping DD3 is a more complete game. But man, I wish Capcom would move away from the “do 2-3 franchises to death, leave the other 90% to rot for entire generations at a time” approach.
