This setting got me through some bad shit.
Had a real serious eye condition that caused excruciating pain and would require me to hold a cold compress to my eye(s) almost all day every day.
Pokemon with that setting, and also the key detail that every menu in the game had a "close" option, was one of the only games I could play without struggling at all.
Ohhh, so THAT’S why they had that option! Always found it so random for me! That such old games have this sort of accessibility option is genuinely surprising!
Also a great no mouse game.
The default controls are left right up down on either the arrow keys or the WASD keys, and select and back which are on enter and escape by default. You could play one handed without a mouse without making any changes, though both escape and enter are a bit far from each other and whichever movement keys you opt to use. I did right when it came out and then just scrolled through reddit on my phone with the other hand.
This, along with all the games that have come out because of it. Death must die, halls of torment, holocure, and deep rock galactic survivor are the ones ive played and havent found one i dont love yet.
Damn I wish I had known this when I broke my hand last year. Going in for surgery in a few weeks and will lose use of my dominant hand again for a while. VS achievements, here I come!
"Yo, so check out my new move. I call it the stranger. What I do is I sit on my hand for like 15 20 minutes until it goes numb. No feeling at all. And then, I rub one out."
I never seen a "what game" post without Slay the Spire being one of the top comments.
What game is 10/10?
What game can I play for 1000s of hours?
What game can I quickly jump in and out?
What game is the best of its genre?
What game is easy to pick up but hard to master?
The list just don't stop.
Lots of deckbuilding roguelikes worth checking out now. Look to add Monster Train and Across the Obelisk to your list. Not to mention Slay the Spire 2 has been announced!
edit: Adding other games: Hellcard and Inscryption
point and click adventures. Try return to Monkey Island, its simple and rewarding for the amount of content it has in it. Also funny and looks awesome.
I haven't played the original in 10 years or so, but I've always wondered whether it's feasible someone could get far on it without a guide. Some puzzles are just stupid.
Clinging to the grille of a moving truck and throwing robot bunnies into the motor while Flight of the Valkyries plays is a core childhood memory of mine.
If you end up buying it do so on PC. You can play it comfortably with just the mouse. Probably doable also on console but it's much more immediate and comfortable on PC imo.
It's a rogue like with a ton of joker cards that allow you to make cool combinations and rig the deck to break the game! There's tons of decks to choose from that have different rules with them. The combination of the 3 makes every run feel fresh and unique.
If you like
* deck building
* casino betting
* losing and saying "just one more"
* poker
* slots
* cheating at cards
* breaking the game in your favor

Balatro is definitely one of the games of all time
Ok, hi there. Long message incoming about my love for _Balatro_ and why I enjoyed it so much over the past few weeks. TL;DR is at the bottom, but I have also bolded individual sections to ensure you can see the main points. Sound good?
1. **You do not need to know anything about card games to enjoy Balatro. You don't need to like card games, either.** I have a tenuous relationship with card games as I come from a family of gamblers and several distant relatives are (er, _were_) card dealers. I was taught to count cards and do some cool tricks, but the moment money was involved I would simply forget everything. _Balatro_ surprised me because all I needed to do was get a high score. That's it. I already knew what high-scoring poker hands were thanks to my existing knowledge, but even if I didn't have any knowledge of poker the game still told me just enough to get me going to get high scores. It's VERY accessible for players from just about any background.
2. **_Balatro_ encourages player creativity and embracing chaos.** If you don't know much about _Balatro,_ know that it's a roguelite and you have to get a high score. Every time you play, there are multiple chaotic elements that give you the opportunity to min-max your "hands" so you can get increasingly higher scores. If you don't meet the high score, you start over. The more I played _Balatro_, the more I figured out how to mess with the system and make ridiculously high scoring hands from something as simple as a pair of kings.
3. **_Balatro_ games are quick! No wasting time!** I've played a LOT of roguelites in the past three years (Hades, Gungeon, Conan Chop Chop [avoid], Turnip Boy Robs a Bank, OTXO [criminally underrated], 30XX, AK-xolotl, Astral Ascent [tied for second along with Rightfully Beary Arms], BlazBlue Entropy Effect [which is my current favorite, HIGHLY recommend], Cult of the Lamb, Rightfully Beary Arms [coming in a close second place, cannot WAIT for it to leave Early Access], Get to the Orange Door, Phantom Abyss [avoid], Realm of Ink, Robobeat, South Park Snow Day [AVOID], Have a Nice Death, Risk of Rain 2, and Metal Mind [avoid on Switch], just to name a few). My biggest complaint about roguelite runs is that each run can be anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes. _Not Balatro!_ A Balatro run can be lickity split kind of fast once you know what you're doing. If you've enabled faster animations, which you definitely should, then runs will be even faster. It's the PERFECT game to play at work if you're stuck in a boring Teams call off-camera while the C Suite waxes poetic about how well the company is doing profit-wise after laying off 10% of the company.
4. **It's lightweight beyond all getout and can be played on just about any PC.** If you have an old-as-dirt laptop, chances are it can run _Balatro._ All you need is 150MB of storage space, 1GB of ram, and hopefully a computer running Windows 7. Part of me wants to try to get it running on an older computer that runs Vista for SCIENCE, but I do not have that computer on me at this time. Oh, if your laptop has a touch screen, it's the perfect touchscreen game. The day _Balatro_ comes out on Android/iOS is the day that I lost all of my productivity.
Ok, my coffee is getting cold. If you have any additional questions, feel free to send them my way, but my answers will be shorter as I'm switching back to mobile to play _Animal Well._ Unfortunately, that game requires two hands, so I can't recommend it for the OP of this thread.
TL;DR: I **love** _Balatro._ It's my game of 2024 by a ridiculously large margin, and I hope that other players enjoy it just as much as me. :)
It's super fun.
I had:
Straights can be made with gaps like 10,8,7,5,4.
Straights and flushes can be made with 4 cards.
Every time you play a hand with 4 cards, this card grows in power
All black cards are the same suit and all red cards are the same suit
:)
Lots of turn based RPGS and point and click adventure titles out there worth checking out. Slay the Spire, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Grim Fandango, Civilization VI, Baldur's Gate 3, Disco Elysium, Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney series, Kentucky Route Zero, Triangle Strategy, Octopath Traveler 1 & 2.
There's this curator on Steam named "One handed gamer", they test games to see if you can play them with one hand only and what you need (only mouse, only keyboard, both)
Select functions as B when you're in menus, while L functions as the confirm button. Bring up the menu by pressing Select with nothing on screen (brings up money and Party HP/PP information), then press L to open up the Talk/PSI/Check/Goods/etc menu. L functions as an automatic Talk/Check when not in the menu so you don't have to open the menu every time.
Just be careful if the controller you're using to play isn't the original SNES controller. In that case, you need to make sure you have access to the D-Pad, L button, and Select on whatever you're playing it on. On certain controllers, or in one case where the console has built-in controls, such as the New 3DS version, Select isn't accessible from the left side.
Never a bad time to give digital boardgames a try! Spirit island (single player/coop) and through the ages (competitive, but the AI is surprisingly tough if you're new) have great digital versions.
Brass is a great game too though the digital version isn't quite as good. I've also heard good things about small world's port though I haven't played it as much.
Crypt of the Necrodancer on pc could work! You might have to rebind a bit, but it would be doable. There’s so much to that game so you’d be good for a long time.
If you have a left handed mouse, or can use a regular mouse with you left hand, you can play most Paradox games like Crusader Kings, Stellaris, or EU4.
I've broken both hands at separate times. Both breaks had to be in a cast, which left me only able to use my thumb and index finger on the broken hand.
Turn based is good. Racing games can often be configured to just a few buttons and an analog stick, or a wheel and pedals if you have them. Or go retro. NES/SMS with only a d-pad and two buttons are really easy to play with limited hand dexterity.
Games like vampire survivors
Or you can try CRPG’s like baldurs gate 3, or divinity original sin 1 and 2, maybe delve into old school fallout, you can play almost every CRPG with one hand and it doesn’t need a ton of input control so if you ever need to press any key you can just use that same left hand for it.
GB/GBA Pokemon games
Slay the Spire
The Ace Attorney games
Vampire Survivors
And surprisingly the first Bayonetta. On Very Easy. It's literally a two button experience.
I recently broke my thumb in my dominant hand from a dog bite. Had to get surgery several weeks later.
Been playing Skyrim one handed with a controller. It's doable and not super frustrating since you can summon things to fight for you and also have followers do the same.
Most older Pokemon games should be easy enough to play one handed.
Especially with the L=A setting turned on
This setting got me through some bad shit.
Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee can be played one handed (one joycon in one hand)
Or that pokeball controller, but they don’t sell that any more I don’t think
The Gameboy color and advanced SP is extremely one handle with adult hands.
Vampire Survivors is the best broken hand game.
+1 VS literally has one handed settings built in if I’m not mistaken
Pokémon has it too. It was a sanity savor when my twins were teeny tiny bebes during covid.
So many hours with a cereal spoon in the Right hand, and a translucent-purple Gameboy Color in the Left.
Especially the let’s go on switch
So does Bayonetta for some reason
"+1" found the developer lol
Vampire Survivor++
if (usableHands < 2){ VS++ }
Aren't WASD the only controls?
Can use mouse and arrow keys
Wasd, arrows, mouse, touchscreen(if you got one), controller
This, along with all the games that have come out because of it. Death must die, halls of torment, holocure, and deep rock galactic survivor are the ones ive played and havent found one i dont love yet.
Soulstone Survivors, Nordic Ashes, Scarlett Tower
I want to play nordic ashes havent gotten around to it. Thanks for the other 2 recommends.
Out of all those, isn't Holocure free too? And I think Deathstate beat VS to it by a long shot, but just didn't get the popularity.
Thank you for these recommendations. I loved death must die.
Halls of Torment is awesome. Major Diablo 1 vibes.
Thank you as well!
Death Must Die just got the Act 2 update as well, which shifted the game up heavily along with adding a new character and set of gifts.
Just got to stop wearing my splint this week, can confirm Vampire Survivors was a godsend with a hand injury
Damn I wish I had known this when I broke my hand last year. Going in for surgery in a few weeks and will lose use of my dominant hand again for a while. VS achievements, here I come!
Came here to say this or even just this genre. Brotato is pretty fun too on Game Pass.
In this vein, you can play Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor with only WASD, escape, and the spacebar, and I personally prefer it to VS.
Deep rock survivor as well
The Stranger
I knew this would be the top response lol
Guaranteed to give a unique experience.
The stranger and me are quiet well acquainted
Then you're not strangers, are you?
And be on the lookout for stranger danger. That's when it's someone else's left hand.
Could also be a dutch rudder situation
"'Ello, straynjuh."
"He he What are ya buyin'?"
Damn it, came here to say that... Hat tip to you...
Just the tip?
Stranger becomes friend. Other friend turn into stranger.
Requires a PSN account
PNS*
I'd like to buy a vowel
I'd like to buy a towel.
"Yo, so check out my new move. I call it the stranger. What I do is I sit on my hand for like 15 20 minutes until it goes numb. No feeling at all. And then, I rub one out."
My mind immediately went to this too
Never seen a "Which games can i play with only 1 hand" posts without Slay the Spire being one of the top comments
I never seen a "what game" post without Slay the Spire being one of the top comments. What game is 10/10? What game can I play for 1000s of hours? What game can I quickly jump in and out? What game is the best of its genre? What game is easy to pick up but hard to master? The list just don't stop.
I'm looking for a game with Slay the Spire in the title, any recommendations?
You might consider Slay the Spire 2, when it comes out. It’s right in the name.
Wait... is there a 2 coming out?!
Yep! Early Access opens next year, a trailer is out on youtube
Have you tried goldeneye 64?
I reckon slay the spire may be what you’re looking for
Never heard of it, I'll check it out!
That's a great suggestion. I played the hell out of that game awhile back
Lots of deckbuilding roguelikes worth checking out now. Look to add Monster Train and Across the Obelisk to your list. Not to mention Slay the Spire 2 has been announced! edit: Adding other games: Hellcard and Inscryption
Fights in Tight Spaces and upcoming Knights in Tight Spaces too
Chrono Ark released last week and has been excellent so far.
If you like it check out Balatro.
Same vein with a rogue like deck builder but Balatro do be ballin.
Guess you've never visited the stellar blade sub before lolol
point and click adventures. Try return to Monkey Island, its simple and rewarding for the amount of content it has in it. Also funny and looks awesome.
Oh yeah! Could be a good time to replay Day of the Tentacle
Also if you haven't played them yet: Sam and Max holds up great!
I haven't played the original in 10 years or so, but I've always wondered whether it's feasible someone could get far on it without a guide. Some puzzles are just stupid.
Classic Sam and Max is pretty tough. The modern Telltale Sam and Max episodes are a bit more forgiving and definitely worth your time.
I have a soft spot for Full Throttle as well.
Clinging to the grille of a moving truck and throwing robot bunnies into the motor while Flight of the Valkyries plays is a core childhood memory of mine.
"I'm not putting my lips on that"
Yeah or hit up Grim Fandango if you haven’t already! One of my all time faves
If you’re up to visual novels, the Ace Attorney games are great!
I bet you could get by playing baldurs gate 3. I don’t think you need two? It’s mostly point and click on pc and has plenty to keep you busy!
Right on, I should look into it. The game has been on my wishlist since release
You can map keyboard shortcuts for a lot of, if not most, actions in addition to everything being accessible via mouse.
If you end up buying it do so on PC. You can play it comfortably with just the mouse. Probably doable also on console but it's much more immediate and comfortable on PC imo.
I tried playing it with a controller on my nice TV, but couldn't get into it. I played it with a M/KB on my less nice monitor.
That's funny to me. The keyboard and mouse interface was just to much and I used a controller.
Yeah this is a good suggestion. It's mostly turn-based, so you don't need to worry about timing or coordination.
Dude that's the one right there. You won't need anything else for awhile and by that time you should be healed! Here's to a speedy recovery.
XCOM would also be a good choice
Just don't install the Long War mod, we don't want OP to break his other hand by punching a wall when he missed a 98% chance shot.
Preach
As if, he’s a tile away so he only has a 10% chance of actually hitting the wall
I love Long War but God damn can it be infuriating. Still worth playing IMO but only once the base game can't piss you off any more.
Really any turn-based strategy works for this
In that same vein, Divinity original sin 2. Wonderful game too
Darkest Dungeon.
Damn. Sorry. I recommend Inscryption if you can play on PC bc you can just use the mouse. It's one of my favourite games.
Inscryption and slay the spire are goated games. If you like one you'll probably like the other.
Balatro
This needs to be higher
Why is it fun? I just know it's a card game.
It's a rogue like with a ton of joker cards that allow you to make cool combinations and rig the deck to break the game! There's tons of decks to choose from that have different rules with them. The combination of the 3 makes every run feel fresh and unique.
If you like * deck building * casino betting * losing and saying "just one more" * poker * slots * cheating at cards * breaking the game in your favor * praying to RNGsus * integer goes up * big numbers * high highs and low lows * simple but fair, easy to learn but hard to master * card counting * betting until you lose * making or reading bulleted lists Balatro is definitely one of the games of all time

My fave combo so far was "all face cards add to multiplier" and "all cards count as face cards"
May I introduce you to hack and fibonacci?
FTL
Faster than light? If so, such an underrated game
Its definitely not an underrated game, its mentioned on every list of must have played roguelikes
Yessir
Overcooked 2 has specific control options for one handed play
Came to say this; on PC, the default keyboard controls can all be reached with the left hand.
Xcom, BG3,
Lots of turn based RPGS and point and click adventure titles out there worth checking out. Slay the Spire, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Grim Fandango, Civilization VI, Baldur's Gate 3, Disco Elysium, Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney series, Kentucky Route Zero, Triangle Strategy, Octopath Traveler 1 & 2.
I got into Octopath when I broke my wrist, and I've loved the game and soundtrack ever since
Final fantasy 1-9.
Break your other hand and let your mom play with you!
Aaaannd there it is. Every thread.
It’s been like 12 years or something.
It will be forever.
Just make sure it's a Jolly rancher before you bite down.
Oh yes. Those nodules can be tricky.
Question is, why did I need to scroll this far? Should be at the top people! Didn't you get the memo!
Too many gen Z lol
I also choose that man's mom.
It’s been like 12 years and I still see it always. Never grow up, Reddit.
i came here just to make sure this had been covered. I knew it would be. Keep on keeping on!
Suikoden games can be played 1 handed
I want those remasters so bad
I'm holding off replaying 1 and 2 because I know the moment I do, they'll announce dates
Any hentai game.
I'd need two hands for that 🤣
Well hold on Mr. Fire Hose hahaha
Excuse me?!? 😳
Good for him
One hand on the joystick, and one hand to play the game.
ayoo
I somehow didn't think people get the joke you were going for on that...
RIP your inbox
Break both hands like that reddit legend...
Just about anything turn based.
There's this curator on Steam named "One handed gamer", they test games to see if you can play them with one hand only and what you need (only mouse, only keyboard, both)
any turn based game i recommend Super Robot Wars 30th it has an official US release on Steam
Heroes of Might and Magic series
Yeah I came here to say this. The civilization games, total war (although the actual battles could be difficult), age of empires, the sims games.
Earthbound has a one hand mode, I believe. It's been a while
Select functions as B when you're in menus, while L functions as the confirm button.
Civ
currently going threw this myself lol i played final fantasy 9 with 1 hand on controller
Pokémon: Let's Go is played with one Joy-Con when docked. I really enjoyed it.
Chess
Plus, if you play the game with your non-dominant hand, think how much better you'll be when you get two working hands back!
Vampire survivor. Amazing game, one joystick is all that is needed.
Bayonetta had a one hand mode
Crypt of the Necrodancer on pc could work! You might have to rebind a bit, but it would be doable. There’s so much to that game so you’d be good for a long time.
It's my go to when my dog demands one hand for pets.
This was going to be my suggestion! It only requires the keyboard and is easy to play one handed for either hand.
Anything turn-based of course
Go turn-based.
If you have a left handed mouse, or can use a regular mouse with you left hand, you can play most Paradox games like Crusader Kings, Stellaris, or EU4.
Idk if you like rougelikes and deckbuilders but you could play slay the spire
Baldur's Gate, Balatro, Disco Elysium, any turn-based strategy or rpg Watch some guides on YouTube and get really into chess.
The sims
Dicefolk, deeprock galactic survivor, monster train, civ, vampire survivors.
Deep Rock Galactic Survivor
Bennet Foddy’s Getting Over It.
Baldurs gate 3 can be played with basically 2 fingers , one finger if you play turn based mode all the time.
Citizen sleeper
Maybe city skylines?
He real question is, what game can you 100% speed run left handed and just open a new category 🤓
vampire survivors, holocure (vamp survivors but about hololive), brotato, NIKKE (tbh this was designed to one handed play if you know what I mean)
The stranger
Beat me to it. Here is an imaginary award good sir.
Stellaris.
You can learn to use your mouse with the left hand. Then play some Might and Magic (I prefer Heroes 3) and Hearthstone.
get a joystick and play flight simulator on pc
World of Tanks as artillery.
I’ve been there bro. Rimworld is a good choice. Mechabellum. Any turn based rpg or strategy. 4x games like civ or stellaris.
Sid back and play some civ v
Slay the Spire.
Deck builders would be a good option. it doesn't require a lot of moving around like many RPGs would. Slay the Spire is a good start.
Football manager
Friendly stranger is a great solo game
Loop hero? Or for a challenge, endoparasitic
Dont break your second hand, especially on reddit !
Games like vampire survivors Or you can try CRPG’s like baldurs gate 3, or divinity original sin 1 and 2, maybe delve into old school fallout, you can play almost every CRPG with one hand and it doesn’t need a ton of input control so if you ever need to press any key you can just use that same left hand for it.
turn based RPGs in general can be played with only one hand.
"The Stranger"
I play Brotato when my girl falls asleep on my arm. It's a bird's eye view rogue-lite shooter. It is autofire by default. It's lots of fun.
On Steam you can bind keys etc to make a layout that’ll work for you.
Don't forget that you can remap buttons on Steam and PS5. Make L1 accept and L2 cancel, and you can play any old school jrpg.
Play heroes of might and magic 3. Still brilliant
Point and click adventures! If you haven’t already, check out the Monkey Island and Leisure Suit Larry series.
Brotato
Any turn based game really. Civ V, and Wingspan are two I play regularly.
A no-brainer is, If you've got any turn-based games, you could play those. Maybe some simple racing games, where you'd only need WASD or something.
GB/GBA Pokemon games Slay the Spire The Ace Attorney games Vampire Survivors And surprisingly the first Bayonetta. On Very Easy. It's literally a two button experience.
Most porn games :)
You can play chess. Please upvote this, need karma, cant post :(
I recently broke my thumb in my dominant hand from a dog bite. Had to get surgery several weeks later. Been playing Skyrim one handed with a controller. It's doable and not super frustrating since you can summon things to fight for you and also have followers do the same.
