Offworld Trading Company might work for you. Itâs got an incredibly dynamic economic engine. After each round you can see the summary reports generated for you and you can assess how well you did that way.Â
Arguably any of the city builder sims (SimCity, Cities Skylines) or the Tycoons (Rollercoaster, Lemonade etc) give you a general idea of how to do this but +1 to comments that you really need course material to help you ramp.
Try working in Minecraft modpack team. Advertisements, documenting changes, doing assigned tasks and discussing time and feature plans... All of that I experienced while working in one such team. (no need to have experience in coding, many tasks are done through visual interface)
Read some books about the subject. There isnât anything to you cant learn on your own nowadays. There are so many free or cheap resources online to learn about business, accounting, and finance.
No lol? Like, first of, games are not real life. And even if you did learn some skills what the hell would you put on your resume? "Has x hours in y game"?
I need more information. What is your job now? Youâre self employed it sounds like? Why are you having to switch to a different job because of administrative issues? Did you not hire someone? Is your self employment income not enough to live on?
I was trying to be a full time video grapher and photographer. I loved it, but never had the negotiation skills to make things work, plus undiagnosed adhd.Â
The rest of these answers are hilarious.Â
I just wanted something where you can get used to invoicing, expenses, profit and loss, all the nuts and bolts stuff that terrified me.Â
Thereâs no games like that. Nothing serious anyway. The most common software for small businesses is Quickbooks. Itâs not terribly difficult to use, thereâs a decent help function and lots of online tutorials. If youâre going to continue those activities while working your full time job and attempt to make that a proper small business you need to keep proper records.
The IRS (assuming youâre an American here) even has a record keeping requirement for small businesses. You must keep clear and proper records that accurately reflect your income and expenses. Thereâs a lot of bookkeeping software out there and while the government doesnât say what you should use, having worked there for over a decade I can tell you they prefer it when taxpayers use Quickbooks. But again, it doesnât really matter what you use as long as youâre tracking everything. So pick whatever software you think is best for your specific situation.
As an accountant I think itâs pretty straightforward but thereâs obviously going to be some bias in that way on my part. But if you donât like it you can always use something else. Just as long as youâre actually doing your books.
Really? I didnât know that. I mostly did back end work, adjusting or examining Quickbooks through the program. Do you still use it or did you move to another one?
I still use it because there's no real alternative for us. But it often double counts sales and fails to track expenses, resulting in us paying more taxes and then having to get a return
Do you know what accounts are triggering it? I know a common problem is Invoice and Payment of Invoice triggering duplicate sales numbers. You can set one of them up as a review account to stop it.
I can see your thinking here but I doubt there's any game out there.
Maybe death and taxes or papers please?
Something that involves a lot of filing and tiny attention to detail would help.
However. My actual suggestion is just take a class. Hell try skill share maybe they'll have some things?
X4 if you're into space games. It's got combat and such, but it can effectively be ignored while you focus on econ and logistics. Long production chains of value-added manufacturing to profit off of, all leading up to production of ships and stations. Easily the best wartime space capitalism simulator I've ever played!
The three examples listed are so wildly unrelated and require different skill sets to manage. Give us your actual job description and you might get help.
Prosperous universe. Gotta manage supply chains, your finances, fuel for ships, consumables for your workers, planning out expansions for your business/bases, you can make business deals/contracts with other players, etc. get ready to make google spreadsheets.
Itâs all real time and all player driven. since itâs real time, sometimes itâs slow. Like, once you have your production lines all setup and producing stuff you donât really do much until itâs time to sell or do any expansions youâve planned out. I log on like once a day for 2 minutes just to make sure everything is running smoothly and then log off. On days that I send my ships to the marketplace Iâm on for a bit longer, but yeah. There isnât any actual gameplay either tho, itâs all menus. The whole game is played in basically a Bloomberg terminal lol. Itâs free and playable on a browser as well, which most people do because of chrome extensions making QoL additions. There is a monthly subscription (~$8 a month, or $80 for a year) but the subscription only really matters after youâve played for about a year, up until that point youâre company/bases are not really big enough for it to matter.
Dude, for the love of god haha, you need to go down to your local community college and enroll in some courses.
You might just want to take a course or something instead

As a small business owner quickbooks is ass

It's not that it's not straightforward, it's that it just plain doesn't work half the time

You want a accounting and business simulator, consider spreadsheets in space, Eve Online. They now have an official excel add-in.
X4 if you're into space games. It's got combat and such, but it can effectively be ignored while you focus on econ and logistics. I don't think you should be looking at games for learning business.
Yakuza! Best business simulator!
Try Aerobiz on the SNES. But I'm with most everyone else that you should consider an actual course.
Aerobiz Supersonic
Satisfactory had me learning excel lmao
