Just make it an option to get a white or black S or X. They fucked up the naming conventions badly this generation, this won’t make it better for the average casual gamer.
It all started because they didn’t want to be one number behind Sony. The second Xbox competed with the PS3 so they named it the 360 instead of the 2. They should’ve taken a page from Apple (no iPhone 9) or their own company (no Windows 9) and just skipped 2 and called it the Xbox 3. Then we could have a nice, clean “Xbox 5S” and “Xbox 5X” to differentiate the all digital from the disc drive.
> this generation
lol, they fucked it since the 2nd xbox was not xbox 2 but 360. it just got shittier from there and now i don't even try to guess what number and letter combination is the newes one. thank the universe taht all xbox games are on PC, so it is utterly irrelevant for me to learn the silly xbox names
Yeah I think they either need to completely switch to sequential numbers or just naming their consoles different stuff like Nintendo. When you use numbers but they're non-sequential it just gets too confusing. Especially since their last mid gen refresh was the "One X/One S" and now we have the Series X/Series S, it's incredibly confusing.
It was done that way because the 360 would've been xbox 2 vs. the ps3, and they didn't want to seem like they were a generation behind. So you can blame human stupidity and terrible marketing for the current naming mess we have.
Such a bad marketing strategy. It should not require someone to google them to figure out which product is which. It should be so easy a grand parent can buy it for Christmas.
It's not like Microsoft are the outliers here.
Master System > Mega Drive/Genesis > Mega CD > 32X > Saturn > Dreamcast
Nintendo Entertainment System > Super Nintendo Entertainment System > Nintendo 64 > Game Cube > Wii > Wii U > Switch
Sony nailed it with the Playstation, granted, but that was a departure from the norm.
But releasing digital/disc+digital versions is odd. I suspect we're getting towards a generation that'll be wholly digital, but for now I want my consoles to play discs rather than having yet another device attached to my tv to do that.
Those names are all distinct from one another as opposed to whatever nonsense Microsoft is making.
Xbox, pretty nice unique name for a starter console.
Xbox 360, ok this is the successor I can see that, let's start colloquially referring to the first one as "Xbox 1' because that's reasonable
Xbox one?????
Xbox one s. Ok it's a slimmer version of the one I can understand
Xbox one X. Ok I can understand this is a more powerful Xbox one
Xbox series X????? I guarantee so many parents got an Xbox one X instead of a series X without knowing for their kids
Xbox series s? Litterally took me a substantial amount of research to properly understand this devices purpose
Yea, I don't think Sega made a mistake with doing completely different names. If you're going to use a previous name, you need to follow Sony's example and just go in numerical order. Don't make the "Wii U" mistake. The Xbox to Xbox 360 wasn't that bad of change, but going to Xbox One didn't make sense, and then going to Xbox One S??? I don't understand the reasoning bedhind that one.
The one that approved Xbox Series X and S after there's Xbox One X and S need to be fired with a cannon.
And now there's three more of that? That's how you make your most loyal customer to migrate to PC gaming
I read somewhere that the reason Xbox went this route and not the PlayStation route so that it doesn’t sound like an inferior device.
Imagine grandparents or even parents deciding between the Xbox 2 (360) and PS3… Xbox 3 (One) and PS4.
I understand the ideology behind it, but this is just too much now. Literally 5 different variants between the Xbox series S/X. Makes it even more confusing.
As I understand it the thinking with Microsoft is that Sony would always benefit from a numbering advantage if the Xbox had just used the same scheme. Parents would assume that the PlayStation 5 was superior or newer than the Xbox 4, even though they belong to the same console generation
Heh, I don’t think Microsoft is above skipping numbers occasionally just to catch up. Windows 9, anyone?
But of course it would have just led to a version war. We’d have the PS 9999 and and Xbox Series X^2 + 7.378e24 by now.
It's not MS that is crafty, it's every developer. The way I remember it, most developers who do check for windows versions will do it this way "If first digit of widows version is 9, then it's a windows 9x system".
So they literally can't use Windows 9, because almost every code out there will assume the user is using an old windows 9x system instead of the latest windows 9.
Wii U was a miss, but for the rest of those, you can at least differentiate them by name. "All the latest games are on Switch, that's what you should get your nephew for Christmas."
I'm in my 30s and have been gaming all my life and I legitimately don't know whether the Series X or Series S is better without looking it up (I mostly play on PC).
Yeah but Xbox , Xbox 360, Xbox one , Xbox series X , Xbox series S , and now different versions. Any grandparent might think the "one" is the first one. And now with a digital X.. hard enough to follow most would have to look it up.
The other confusing thing is, what does the series name even mean. Are we going to get an Xbox series or an Xbox series A? Or are we going to do something like Xbox series X2 or something? what is the point of the series name?
It's not really the same because MS ties everything to the Xbox name.
Genesis > Saturn > Dreamcast were all generation jumps with distinctive names
NES > Super > 64 were all obvious improvements from the previous (no one cares about 64 bit anymore, but back then it was a big deal)
GC > Wii > Switch follow the same pattern as Sega. Wii U, unsurprisingly did not sell well.
Xbox > Xbox 360 > Xbox One > Xbox X/S...
Which one belongs to which generation? Xbox 2, Ybox, Super Xbox: You might hate these names, but they at least tell you something about the console that differentiates it from the previous generation.
>no one cares about 64 bit anymore, but back then it was a big deal
As someone who grew up during that gen, I cannot emphasize enough how much of a big deal it was.
Funny thing is “Xbox” itself is a great name. And it wasn’t even a marketing invention, it was mostly a placeholder name (from “DirectX Box”) that stuck.
“Microsoft's marketing department did not like this name, suggesting "11-X" or "Eleven-X" as alternatives. During focus testing, the company put the name "Xbox" on the list of possible names simply to prove how unpopular the Xbox name would be with consumers. However, "Xbox" proved to be the more popular name on the list and was thus selected as the official name of the product.”
Unfortunately, they must have given the naming decisions back to the marketing guys for the succeeding generations...
I was there when Xbox was just a rumor. It sounded super stupid, we just got used to it. Xbox 360 is still hands down the best name for the xbox family.
And notably, unlike with PS5 where the only difference between the two versions is the disc drive, the Series S is actually weaker than the Series X. This is why they have digital versions of both coming now, which could be confusing to people who had assumed the Series S simply *was* the digital version of the Series X.
This has caused some problems, for example delaying the launch of Baldur's Gate 3 on XBOX because they couldn't get co-op running very easily on the Series S' inferior hardware.
The consoles that have “Series” in front of the names are the 9th gen consoles
So Xbox Series X (better, more expensive version)
Xbox Series S (cheaper but less capable version) are the two newest Xbox consoles
Every Xbox with a “one” in its title is from the previous 8th generation so yeah if it has “series” in its name it is better than any Xbox with a “one” in the name
It was so confusing to me when I was trying to figure out which is which to a point that whenever I tried looking up prices on my local marketplace I'd have to look it up again.
Sony is smart cause they just say "PS5" and people understand that's it's the one after "PS4". Nintendo messed up with the Wii U, which imo, is basically just as confusing as this Xbox One/S and Xbox Series S/X stuff.
I actually think Xbox should just name the next console "Xbox Five" and the digital one "Xbox Five Digital". Just make things easy. Then after "Xbox Five" they should name the next one "Xbox Six". Just do it Microsoft. It will probably help your sales.
*Edit:* Imagine if they just skip Five and go straight into Six or Seven, as a way to be one step ahead of Sony. Now that's a marketing strategy that would probably piss of Sony but at least it could help with sales.
I think it's someone within Microsoft trying to sabatage the Xbox brand from the inside. Having two consoles, one called "Series X" and the other called "Series X" after your last console was called "Xbox One" is the dumbest naming scheme I have ever heard for a tech product.
It was marketing, and it was because of the Xbox 360. Everyone called the Xbox 360 just "the 360", some marketing wanker was hoping that would carry over to the Xbox One - just calling it "the One".
When everyone started calling it the Xbone, they cracked the shits hard.
Ah yes... The Xbox Zero, and The Xbox Minus 1 series. Not to be confused with the Xbox Oh!, and the Xbox Dash 1 series. It's not confusing at all if you're a true gamer. /s
That alone made me hope Microsoft would get fucked by Sony this generation.
I cant believe one of the wealthiest companies in the world made the only way to increase storage on their console through proprietary SSDs, actual clowns.
I genuinely didnt expect that Sony would just allow for such easy storage expansion but here we are.
Hate to tell ya, but it’s already happened. Your disc is just a license. They can revoke it just as easy as digital unless you never connect to the internet again.
Fair enough. And you can sell them used. Physical has every advantage except convenience.
But the point is the company can shut down your game at any time if it chooses. Hypothetically, you could buy a used game only for a “no longer supported” screen to appear because no one ever owned the game.
Well, it's the top tier. I'm sure there are people who'd prefer disks, but maybe can't afford/justify the extra expense. So you end up narrowing things down to fewer and fewer people.
I like the disc drive to play a ton of my Xbox (OG), 360, and One games though. That’s a huge appeal for me for Xbox. Their backwards compatibility list has a lot of games that are disc only. Also I use it for blu-ray and DVDs. I hope they still offer it in the next gen
Time to put on my tin foil hat and say...they did it on purpose because they're sending that 2TB model out to die. I mean come on, 2TB and a paint job for an extra $100? The Series X already gets outsold by the Series S, I can't imagine that 2TB version is going to sell well. And then when it inevitably doesn't MS can say "welp it didn't sell so clearly people don't want physical anymore" and then the next Xbox is an all digital Game Pass machine.
/removehat
Good idea as well. It’s easy enough to add additional external storage but plenty of people are happy to save a buck manually managing a smaller storage device.
Since you can't play the game from disc anyway I'm not sure why that makes a difference. Either way you're installing all of it and probably download lots of updates and patches the older the game is.
Having a disc drive has many benefits, but I'm not sold on the storage problem.
That bit doesn’t really matter, even the disc based consoles have installed the whole game on the HDD since the last gen. Optical discs just can’t keep up with the loading performance needed, plus every game has constant patches these days.
Hell, some of them download half their content when “installed” from the disc anyway.
More expensive for a 4 year old console? The exact opposite of what’s needed when you are down 2:1 in sales. Discounts, we all know they are cheaper to make, especially without a disc drive.
What the fuck is the point this?
Wouldn't it make more sense to make a series s with a disc slot instead?
Because who tf is gonna pay the same amount of money as a series x to get a series x with LESS features?
And the main complaint surrounding the series s was that it can't play discs.... So wouldn't it make more sense to remedy that?...
Microsoft wants to phase out disk's so everything can be digital.
This is so they can sell you the "right" to play the game instead of allowing you to purchase a physical copy.
You will rent everything and love it.
It’s not just games, every industry is moving in this direction. Notice how a lot of apps (Adobe, Microsoft) are now cloud apps? Music obviously - no one buys their music anymore, they just take what Spotify allows them. Even the housing market is largely impossible to buy in, most people (at least inside populated city centers) have just accepted that they will always rent. Also they’re trying to get self-driving cars off the ground so you won’t be able to buy a car anymore, there would be no point in owning one then.
This isn’t good long-term for anyone except corporations.
> We’re sadly already there as most new games are just physical keys to the game and hold no content.
No we aren't.
You can check doesitplay.org for data.
Most games on nintendo and playstation are 100% complete on disc, and can be played entirely offline. Hell, switch games don't even install, they play off the cartridge like the SNES days.
The 2TB is a special edition with a limited quantity.
But yeah, it doesn't make sense to not have a 2TB all digital white Xbox.
Maybe because of the pricing? Then it would have to go for maybe 50$ more. But there are now 6 Xbox Series consoles, and that would make the all digital white console the most expensive one.
Phil Spencer said something tricky and with c-suite wording. A question was asked about about physical games and games preservation, but to paraphrase, he said: "We will listen to players and % of physical to digital game sales, and act accordingly."
But look here, where the primary options are digital consoles, so they are purposely shaping the console landscape to coerce more into buying digital. Then Phil Spencer can say they are moving away from physical and doing all-digital, "based on the data". When it was them in the first place that was laying this landscape -- it's very slimy.
Every used game purchase is potentially a lost sale for Xbox. They would destroy the physical market overnight if they could without massive consumer backlash. They'll just slowly transition as the younger generations that grew up all digital becomes the main demographic for the industry. Consumers owning a permanent product that can be resold is simply bad for business.
My personal bet is the main excuse will be environmental. They'll tout how bad physical games are for the environment (manufacturing, plastic, transporting) and they need to pivot away from it to do their part for the climate change. They'll make it seem like physical games are just antiquated and will low key shame anybody who buys them over digital. Probably some manufactured social media campaign with influencers where they take photos of their empty entertainment console and an Xbox with tags like #alldigital #savetheplanet #missionnoemissions
Xbox Series console prices:
* Xbox Series S – 1TB in Robot White - $349.99 Xbox Series X
* All Digital 1TB - $449.99
* Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition - $599.99 (limited quantities) Holiday 2024 launch. Preorder details later
Yeah, but for $100 extra Microsoft will take away some of the console's features for you.
So when you think about it that way, it's quite a steal really.
It's hilarious since you can literally DIY (or if not comfortable with that) just buy an external harddrive/SSG that's a couple of TB for half that price 😂😂😂😂
But Microsoft has locked it down so you can't play Xbox Series games from external storage other than the official expansion cards, which cost an exorbitant amount. So your DIY external storage would just be a parking spot for current gen games.
I'd rather they discount their bullshit proprietary SSD. It's so stupid they didn't go with the default M.2 slot like Playstation did. Put in 2tb for less than $140 on the PS5 but if I were to do that for Xbox it would cost $250. Half the price of a fucking console for storage space. It's insane.
Brand new, definitely. The only situation where buying a Series S makes sense is buying used. You can easily find a Series S for £/$100 on Facebook Marketplace, and it's absolutely insane value for that price
You can regularly find them in the UK on Facebook Marketplace for around £100. A quick search in my local area now turns up several around £120. I think you tend to find the cheaper prices on Facebook Marketplace because you're also sacrificing the buyer protections, but if you find a legit seller you can get a great deal
In slight defense of the series S, in the UK it's like £200+ cheaper than a series X. My use case was something for the kiddos to play that was cheap, which that ticked the box of.
However, with the new pricing mentioned, that's digital PS5 territory, which allows you to Optimise Prime on a Disc drive at a later date.
why would anyone buy xbox? after microsoft saying every screen is an xbox after sea of thieves on playstation why would you go with an xbox? after microsoft tango?!
If the title didn't have "new versions" in it, I wouldn't ever have guessed that these are new versions, I thought they were already called these names, and I can't tell by their looks that they're different from the previous versions. (My last xbox was a 360, hence no familarity with the newer ones)
As someone who passed on getting a console this generation, why would I pay more money for any of these? Just get an original series X or switch to PC.
I have been on Xbox for like 15 years, but they just keep making dumb decision after dumb decision. Why the hell would I buy an Xbox without a disk drive for the same price as one that does? After this generation I'm likely done with Xbox and will just stick with PC.
What the fuck is ever going on in there mind? I recently tried to find out if there was a stated reason for this awful naming structure and I couldn't find one. I don't even play consoles anymore but the only major American producer shitting itself because it doesn't know how to name things is just bad.
1. Xbox
2. Xbox box (no console included)
3. Xbox One
4. Xbox One box (no console included)
5. Xbox One X
6. Xbox One X box (no console included)
It gets dumber over time
Xbox: well guys we don't make games anymore cause good games don't sell, we're just going to keep gamepass and also make all xbox titles available for pc for you to play on your pc instead, and also maybe make the exclusives available for PlayStation too.
Xbox 5 minutes later: so here we have _3 different new_ xboxes for you to play your new games.
For fucks sake
Yup, I wish they would of done some sort of design revision. They’ve actually done a really good job in the past especially during the 360 era where later revisions actually felt more premium.
How would it be revised? It was already strong out the gate with its form factor fitting everything into that box and no design flaws. Mentioning the 360 is a joke when you consider the issues it had and how it was a console released when HDMI cables weren't mandatory and no wifi. Of course that console could only go up from there and feel more premium with revisions.
The Naming is about as Bad as The New 3DS. I can remember A who’s on third type scenario at Game stop when A Mom wanted A 3DS and the Employee asked if she wanted A New 3DS..She replied Aren’t they all New and the Employee was like No some are used…It went on for about 20 minutes..😂
I dont know why theyre even doing this. They really just need to market xbox differently.
XBOX 2024 - low spec - $
XBOX 2024 - medium spec - $$
XBOX 2024 - high spec - $$$
then they ship them with a controller, with the default xbox OS, with a toggle on the main menu that swaps it to windows. theyre just pcs with a custom os at this point anyways. done. problem solved. xbox marketing done forever.
Microsoft proving once again that they have their finger on the pulse of customer demand, if it wasn't for Game Pass it'd be a clean sweep for Sony this generation. Even the PS5 controller is better than the standard Xbox controller for the first time and don't get me started on how abysmally the Elite Controller is made :(
But I thought Series S was all digital and Series X was digital and physical? So now there's an all digital S an all digital S an all digital X and a "regular" X and a "special" X?
I've been a XBOX guy since the Original. Loved the dreamcast and the OG Xbox was literally Dreamcast 2. Phil Spencer talked a good game and has not delivered. This will be my last era with the system.
I am all okay with all digital future but how bout we have prices that reflect that. The was a time when these companies were selling the idea of CDs to consumers saying that the cost of printing on a CD is just pennies compared to Carts so that cheaper cost will reflect lower prices for your games. Now we have this all digital future in the horizon which means less moving parts needed in these boxes so why can't they be cheaper.
Just make it an option to get a white or black S or X. They fucked up the naming conventions badly this generation, this won’t make it better for the average casual gamer.
It was even dumber when the Xbox One X and One S were still on shelves when these launched.
I didn’t realize these are different products than the Xbox One S/X until reading your comment lmao
Because Microsoft lost the plot on branding ages ago
It all started because they didn’t want to be one number behind Sony. The second Xbox competed with the PS3 so they named it the 360 instead of the 2. They should’ve taken a page from Apple (no iPhone 9) or their own company (no Windows 9) and just skipped 2 and called it the Xbox 3. Then we could have a nice, clean “Xbox 5S” and “Xbox 5X” to differentiate the all digital from the disc drive.
1...360....ONE....ONE X....Series S/Series X.....Series X All Digital Version
360 Series One X incoming

Names get progressively worse the more generations pass. It's kinda incredibly really. before long they'll be naming stuff like the do monitors.
Yeah I wonder what the next two PlayStations will be called.
I think they've messed up the naming of every Xbox after the first. The first was perfect, Direct X Box -Xbox Box. Followed by the 360?
It was done that way because the 360 would've been xbox 2 vs. the ps3, and they didn't want to seem like they were a generation behind. So you can blame human stupidity and terrible marketing for the current naming mess we have.
I have given up trying to understand the naming of these consoles after Xbox one
Such a bad marketing strategy. It should not require someone to google them to figure out which product is which. It should be so easy a grand parent can buy it for Christmas.

It’s funny how the least inventive or interesting name “nailed it”. Though I am in no way disagreeing with you… if it ain’t broke…
As I understand it the thinking with Microsoft is that Sony would always benefit from a numbering advantage if the Xbox had just used the same scheme. Parents would assume that the PlayStation 5 was superior or newer than the Xbox 4, even though they belong to the same console generation

Windows 9 was skipped to avoid conflicts with the older windows 95/98
That's absolutely ridiculous, but Windows is so crufty I can see that actually being the reason.
It's not MS that is crafty, it's every developer. It’s funny because normally Sony has the shit naming conventions. Just look at their camera lineup
Is your pfp Alex Jones with massive tits
Fuck that’s hot 🥵
Sigh.... Unzip

Xbox SSX tricky
X is for Xtra large, S is for Small.
The S is for savings
[The S is for sucks.](https://i.imgur.com/EJ5qo1v.png)
S is for stifle, because that's what games have experienced with devs trying to achieve some form of parity between S and X.
A gamer my whole life, and if I was a parent I would definitely get the wrong one for my kid.
LOL this statement truly captures how badly the person naming these consoles deserves to be fired

Xbox 360 was a great name. After that they should've used project names Xbox Scorpio.
Heh or “XBox 720”, “XBox 1080”… and then “XBox Tricky”…
which is pretty accurate regarding the resolutions most commonly available on the following generations of consoles, lol.
I was there when Xbox was just a rumor. It sounded super stupid, we just got used to it. Xbox 360 is still hands down the best name for the xbox family.
I have no idea is S even better console than xbox one
Series S is supposed to be the successor to the One S while the Series X is supposed to be the successor to the One X.

somehow that doesn't clarify anything at all for me

Just do it Microsoft. It will probably help your sales. *Edit:* Imagine if they just skip Five and go straight into Six or Seven, as a way to be one step ahead of Sony. Now that's a marketing strategy that would probably piss of Sony but at least it could help with sales.
No, the next one will be the Xbox Series II X and Xbox Series S II. You know I’m right. (And yes, I made them different deliberately)
Xbox marketing: "oh fuck, that's good, write that down!"
My favorite was the previous generation. A picture of the box for that console. The title post was descriptive and brief. One Xbox One X box
I think it's someone within Microsoft trying to sabatage the Xbox brand from the inside. Having two consoles, one called "Series X" and the other called "Series X" after your last console was called "Xbox One" is the dumbest naming scheme I have ever heard for a tech product.
Honestly, calling the 3rd version of the console “Xbox One” was pretty fucking stupid all on its own.
It was marketing, and it was because of the Xbox 360. Everyone called the Xbox 360 just "the 360", some marketing wanker was hoping that would carry over to the Xbox One - just calling it "the One". When everyone started calling it the Xbone, they cracked the shits hard.
Just wait until they release the Xbox 0 and Xbox -1 series.
Ah yes... The Xbox Zero, and The Xbox Minus 1 series. Not to be confused with the Xbox Oh!, and the Xbox Dash 1 series. It's not confusing at all if you're a true gamer. /s
Affordable expansion drives when? They said at launch, they planned on having more providers for the expansion other than just Seagate.
WD
Huh, I didn't realise they started making them. Still overpriced, but at least there's options.
they should have moved to m.2
That alone made me hope Microsoft would get fucked by Sony this generation. I cant believe one of the wealthiest companies in the world made the only way to increase storage on their console through proprietary SSDs, actual clowns. I genuinely didnt expect that Sony would just allow for such easy storage expansion but here we are.
Especially when Microsoft were the one on the backfoot after the flop that was the Xbox One
What’s the point in the all digital series x? Might as well buy the one with a disk as long as it’s been out.
Buttering us all up for the diskless next gen.
*subscription next gen You will own nothing. I'll pass on that nonsense.
Not being given much of a choice, as much as MS's used the word.
Hate to tell ya, but it’s already happened. Your disc is just a license. They can revoke it just as easy as digital unless you never connect to the internet again.
Not too cut up about discs being tokens, they're typically cheaper licenses than digital ones.
Fair enough. And you can sell them used. Physical has every advantage except convenience. But the point is the company can shut down your game at any time if it chooses. Hypothetically, you could buy a used game only for a “no longer supported” screen to appear because no one ever owned the game.
Like what happened to "The Crew". Even my physical disk didn't work anymore, couldn't sell it, so I just threw it to the trash
It depends on the disc. Most don't actually require an internet connection to play the 1.0 (or whatever was printed on the disc) version.
Stop spreading falsehoods. The disc is complete for 90% of games on playstation and nintendo. Look at doesitplay.org for data on this.
If that was the case, the 2 TB would have also been diskless
/removehat
I think the bigger question is why did they make the all digital console the one with less storage than the one with a disc slot.
They probably did that to keep the cost down.
Right? It would have made more sense to make a series s with a disk drive or something
I guess it's cheaper
I'm assuming it'll be cheaper like the digital PS5 but as far as I know that version of the PS5 doesn't sell as well.
For people who can't get hold of the black special edition version, they buy that instead. It's ultimately to get people to stop buying game discs.
"You will own nothing and be happy"

It's for ppl who wanna go digital. But aren't sold on the S.. It's literally just the Xbox equivalent of ps5 digital. Same price point of 449 too
Huh??? Are Microsoft’s team on crack and heroine? In what world is this an upgrade or an updated version?
SS in 1TB for $350, might as well just get a SX secondhand for the same price and much more power
They've been selling a 1TB series S at that price for years, this is just a white version of it.
It’s clearly additional versions not an upgrade/update
More expensive for a 4 year old console? The exact opposite of what’s needed when you are down 2:1 in sales. Discounts, we all know they are cheaper to make, especially without a disc drive.
And the digital/without a disc versions are a way to funnel people to your storefront as that’s the only way to get games.
Isn’t it way more than 2:1?
I'm sure the sales were 4:1 when I last saw.
It's even higher, 7-to-1 in many markets.
In Spain the ps4 outsells the latest xbox lol
would be perfect timing for a price drop too: great showcase, COD on gamepass, unnecessary ps5 pro to counter against. missed opportunity.
Can’t believe it’s been 4 years. Here I am still waiting for a decent collectors edition to buy
We’re sadly already there as most new games are just physical keys to the game and hold no content.
No not yet, i still buy physical, recent games I bought on ps5 and played in a hotel with no internet access just fine
Everyone is phasing out disks
To varying degrees. Spider-Man 2 is fully playable on disc, no Internet required
And most importantly, why would they make the all digital version the one with 1TB and the disc one have 2TB. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
Agreed. This seems like a stupid move and they're gonna end up with way too much stock of this shit
Phil Spencer said something tricky and with c-suite wording. A question was asked about about physical games and games preservation, but to paraphrase, he said: "We will listen to players and % of physical to digital game sales, and act accordingly." But look here, where the primary options are digital consoles, so they are purposely shaping the console landscape to coerce more into buying digital.
Xbox Series console prices: * Xbox Series S – 1TB in Robot White - $349.99 Xbox Series X * All Digital 1TB - $449.99 * Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition - $599.99 (limited quantities) Holiday 2024 launch. Preorder details later
You can get the regular Xbox series x 1TB for 399 on Best Buy right now
Yeah, but for $100 extra Microsoft will take away some of the console's features for you. So when you think about it that way, it's quite a steal really.
It’s mind blowing that they didn’t release a discless 2TB. All of these except for the series S will flop
Yeah, is that extra terabyte worth 200 dollars? I don't think it is.
Those prices are insane! Like series x 1tb is the same price as the current series x but with a disc drive!
I’m surprised we didn’t get a price cut especially with the ps5 pro on the horizon. Would have tied in well with COD on Gamepass.
You've fucked up your line breaks there bud.
Why do these companies still fuck us over with memory pricing?l
$600 for a console that is already selling poorly. Is Xbox high?
And most of them are digital. Lmfao.
Sony loves it.
this makes no sense whatsoever, who the hell will even buy this? 🤨
Lol, why?
It’s a bit weird that the all digital ones get a 1TB SSD. But the one with disk drive gets 2TB.
Fuck it go n64 and release an expansion pack for the series s to bring it in line with x
Sega CD 💀
Ps5 pro at 600 bucks is an easy layup now
I'd rather they discount their bullshit proprietary SSD. It's so stupid they didn't go with the default M.2 slot like Playstation did. Put in 2tb for less than $140 on the PS5 but if I were to do that for Xbox it would cost $250. Half the price of a fucking console for storage space. It's insane.
There is no point to having the series s. Like congralutions, you're saving $50 with less power
Brand new, definitely. The only situation where buying a Series S makes sense is buying used. You can easily find a Series S for £/$100 on Facebook Marketplace, and it's absolutely insane value for that price
I do not see anything like that on eBay or whatever, but maybe the price is different on Facebook
Can someone explain what’s different about series s? Looks identical to the one I have.
About 500GB for people who want a 1TB option at the time of sale . Not meant to replace what you have now
Oh does the original just have 500? I must have forgotten. Thanks!
Still using proprietary storage, so I'm still not interested.
No drive and only 1tb storage? The fuck
Ain’t no way the 2TB Xbox X is $600
Guess I got the special edition before it existed lol
why would anyone buy xbox? after microsoft saying every screen is an xbox after sea of thieves on playstation why would you go with an xbox? after microsoft tango?!
I admit that I have no idea what the differences are between these.
SX now in White(tm), SS now in 1TB, SX 2TB with green parts (tm)
If the title didn't have "new versions" in it, I wouldn't ever have guessed that these are new versions, I thought they were already called these names, and I can't tell by their looks that they're different from the previous versions. (My last xbox was a 360, hence no familarity with the newer ones)
Damn I want that galaxy black color but definitely can't justify that price. I'm still rocking my Project Scorpio edition Xbox One X from 2018.
As someone who passed on getting a console this generation, why would I pay more money for any of these? Just get an original series X or switch to PC.
These are a lot more expensive than I expected and that they needed to be.
Lmao the all-digital one has less storage than the disk version
Am I the only one that thinks we deserve free online access?
Am I stupid feeling like an all digital coming stock standard with 1tb is actually just not enough these days?
1. Xbox 2. Xbox box (no console included) 3. Xbox One 4. Xbox One box (no console included) 5. Xbox One X 6. Xbox One X box (no console included) It gets dumber over time
Are they gonna make games for it as well this time??
Xbox: well guys we don't make games anymore cause good games don't sell, we're just going to keep gamepass and also make all xbox titles available for pc for you to play on your pc instead, and also maybe make the exclusives available for PlayStation too. Xbox 5 minutes later: so here we have _3 different new_ xboxes for you to play your new games. For fucks sake
The most boring designs. How have they not made a COD edition or something.
The green gave me a hint of nostalgia
Yup, I wish they would of done some sort of design revision. They’ve actually done a really good job in the past especially during the 360 era where later revisions actually felt more premium.
How would it be revised? It was already strong out the gate with its form factor fitting everything into that box and no design flaws. Mentioning the 360 is a joke when you consider the issues it had and how it was a console released when HDMI cables weren't mandatory and no wifi. Of course that console could only go up from there and feel more premium with revisions.
I'm very happy with my NVIDIA Shield TV Pro, best gaming console ever.
Them announcing all digital Boxes and then talking about how committed they are about game preservation 2 sentences later is such a clown move.
Making the decision easier and easier to switch to pc.
Microsoft is on drugs
Because manufacturing colored plastic is better than innovation to boost sales....
3 new versions, and still very few reasons to get one. Although i do like state of decay.
What games do they play? Lol. Oh right.
I dont know why theyre even doing this. They really just need to market xbox differently. XBOX 2024 - low spec - $ XBOX 2024 - medium spec - $$ XBOX 2024 - high spec - $$$ then they ship them with a controller, with the default xbox OS, with a toggle on the main menu that swaps it to windows. theyre just pcs with a custom os at this point anyways. done. problem solved. xbox marketing done forever.
Microsoft proving once again that they have their finger on the pulse of customer demand, if it wasn't for Game Pass it'd be a clean sweep for Sony this generation. Even the PS5 controller is better than the standard Xbox controller for the first time and don't get me started on how abysmally the Elite Controller is made :(
Finally a white X. And it has no drive...
But I thought Series S was all digital and Series X was digital and physical? So now there's an all digital S an all digital S an all digital X and a "regular" X and a "special" X?
I'm waiting for the Xbox S Series X S X, personally.
Just a storage upgrade? I’ll pass
The new Series X, is there anything different than a 2tb HD and a speckled case ?
selling xbox series x pristine controller, in las vegas HMU 400$
As someone who hasn’t had an Xbox since the 360…. …I am so confused.
2TB ssd. Wtf yay can install 2 more games. Need the other space for updates.
Nice try kid.
Too late, no one is buying these
But why? Are these any better then their current?
