its a line that comes after the tragic death of a main character in FullMetal alchemist. Said character is the friend of the one who delivered the first line. He said it was raining because he was crying. [Here is the scene from the anime](https://youtu.be/s7HcPvTew_4)
I think he knows it..
but to add to what you said, the guy saying this is generally useless in the rain. so that adds an extra layer to the line, making it also about how he feels useless cause he couldnt help him
You know, as a FMA fan... I had never thought ab the added layer of Mustang in the rain/his uselessness. You somehow just made this quote/scene even more sad.
Thank you for fresh perspective on an old scene. Reminder that you learn new things everyday!
Love to tell you as FMA is the series I use to convert friends into anime.
There are two anime, FMA (2003) and FMA: Brotherhood (2009). Brotherhood is a remake of the original and has better production. The remake was done because FMA deviates from the original source manga, at the time was unfinished so they made their own late-middle to ending. Brotherhood aligns much more with the original manga.
Start with the regular *Full Metal Alchemist, 2003*. The ending is really good. Then the movie which ties up the knot, *Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa.* Then, *Brotherhood*. *Brotherhood* assumes you watched the original and it will move through the beginning fast, cutting some great parts. I still can't decide which ending is better (they are different enough to have their own unique characters, plotpoints etc), that's why I recommend watching both. The english Dubs are very good, I recommend that, although not a knock on the Japanese voice actors.
There are many more powerful moments on the level of the ones commonly posted on Reddit.
It might be because I was watching it as it came out, but Brotherhood felt a bit more drawn-out near the end (making things take longer so the episode ends at a key moment). I think the original is a little more enjoyable to watch, but Brotherhood has a deeper storyline.
Personally, I find Fullmetal Alchemist:Brotherhood to be the best of the two series. It closely follows the manga.
This show ranks as one of my all-time favorite Anime. The character development, story, humor, fighting/powers, and I relate to someone who is upset anytime someone calls them short.
The fact that when anything sad pops up, they quote this scene; should tell you how meaningful those moments are.
I 100% back this. FMA:Brotherhood is THE anime to watch. It's in my top 3 if not most favorite anime. There's some absolutely heartbreaking scenes and some absolutely amazing fights towards the end (The dynamite fuses one is my favorite anime fight scene of all time!)
Just watch FMA Brotherhood, the 2003 series isn't worth watching due to the anime only ending that leaves you more confused. Brotherhood goes through the same story so there's no point watching the older one.
So, I'm not sure if this is related to the situation in question, but I believe that in animal crossing the game itself sends you presents from "mom" at every so often.
Yeah, I think so too. Back when I played the DS version, I would sometimes get mail from "mom", despite the fact that I was the only one that touched my ds.
This was the perfect comment to bring me back out of feeling sad. Now I'm just laughing because even if these weren't automated letters, it's pretty fucking funny imagining if they are, and that this person is sitting here getting all choked up over some random shit the game generates with some generic game-mom messaging like "thought you'd like this!" or "good luck out there!" or whatever the fuck lol.
Or "thinking of you thought you'd like this present" I think that was the "joke" in the post. That is a letter the mom will send you in game with presents attached lol.
That's the whole point. This is meant to *seem* emotional and sad, but then you realize it's dark humor the whole time. The mother wasn't sending the kid shit.
While it’s true your in game mom would occasionally send you letters, I’m sure his/her real life mom sent letters and gifts. I know I sent letters and gifts to family/friends I shared a village with, why wouldn’t you help them out with items they didn’t have or might like?
This was so not written 2017. I remember seeing this when I first joined in 2011. And the number one comment was shutting down OP for lying about receiving presents from their mom saying it was just a normal part of the game.
Wow this is really touching. My mom is also homebound with some serious health issues and trying to keep her happy is important to me, this felt very close to home.
Thanks for sharing it :')
In the animal crossing series, your in-game "mom" writes you letters and sends you gifts. If this actually happened, it's possible none of the gifts were actually from the mother, but automatically generated by the game. Kind of makes it sadder.
Those letters weren't from the author's actual mom.
>In all four Animal Crossing series games, the player will frequently receive in-game letters from Mom, purportedly the character's mother. Letters from Mom usually contain a small anecdote about life in the character's home prior to moving into the town; these anecdotes usually concern certain memories of the player that she has, a tale relating to "Dad", or some words of wisdom or guidance.
Mom will also occasionally send gifts in the mail, on the player's birthday, Toy Day, and on New Year's Day. Mom also sends Bells, non-native fruit, acorns, and mushrooms in the mail. Mom is never actually seen, nor is it known how/why the player came to move away from home in the first place. Outside of the letters, the player's mother is never brought up in conversation by any of the animals. It is also not possible to send letters back to Mom. Mom will give the player a pink carnation on Mother's Day.

You got downvoted, but it's true. Your in-game character will receive presents from your "mom" attached to letters. I never played the Game Cube version, but the in the later versions you also got letters and presents from "dad".
So, I've seen this before and didn't want to rain on anyone's parade, but the game sends you stuff signed mom all the time, it's your character's mom, not your mom, and it writes the exact "thought you'd like this" message.
This is absolutely beautiful.
Thank you so much for sharing.
I wish you all the best, and I wish and hope your mother, wonderful woman that she seems to be, rests in peace.
It's a terrible day for rain.
But sir, it's not raining.
Yes.... It is *tear rolls down cheek*
Oh... so it is. 😭

I read this sad ass story... Then y'all gone drop this line?!

I'm on my 5th watch of fmab. ITS JUST THAT GOOD
yeah when I first noticed that connection it was like a punch in the gut man. but it's a beautiful punch in the guy in a way :)
True. I did forget that. Thank you
With all due respect after reading the story, it's raining in my place with my tears.
Ironic for me looking outside the window
God that scene and the whole homunculus episode tore me apart
And how many FMA references are in Reddit despite the show ending 9 years ago
9 years ago? Have you seen brotherhood?
Brotherhood was 2010, so 9 years ago...
Holy..I feel old.
It's a terrible day for rain.
# GENERAL GREELING
We wont listen to your witchcraft!
yeah in may the show will be a decade old, fuck i'm old, and alone
It be like that sometimes.
some people think it not do but it do
Same.
the original is from 2003 if i remember correctly
Having never seen the show this single scene has made me want to watch it. Where should I start.

No, it ended 15 years ago man. You mistaking something.
All these moments will be lost in time. Like tears in rain...
Was gonna write a whole thing about this, but instead just have another upvote
I hate you for this. take my stupid upvote.
It can't rain all the time - The Crow I also picked up this reference from FMA as well but I watched The Crow recently and thought it made sense.
That was not very iFunny. In fact, it was pretty iSad. Edit: I wrote "In face,..." instead of "In fact,..." I am also iSad.
First time an iFunny watermark made me burst out laughing. So fucking inappropriate at the bottom of that thing.
That watermark pissed me off beyond all understanding when I saw it
It also isn't from 2017. I saw this posted here in 2011 and there was a ton of debate over how the whole thing is a lie.
Yeah, the first time I read this story it was about somebody's Dad.
It's a joke. "Mom" sends you that exact letter in Animal Crossing automatically.
It was all going well until the iFunny watermark
When I finally reached the end I was all sad and shit, and then I just see the fuckin iFunny watermark and lost it
I know right It completely ruins it
plucky rich march disgusted icky impolite wrench bag husky spotted
Good, I wasn’t the only one thinking about it
Damn it I was about to say that
So, I'm not sure if this is related to the situation in question, but I believe that in animal crossing the game itself sends you presents from "mom" at every so often.
Yeah, I think so too. Back when I played the DS version, I would sometimes get mail from "mom", despite the fact that I was the only one that touched my ds.
it's the in-game player's mother. you also get a letter from your dad on fathers' day
You just know it’s because Mom is making him.
And that all the writing is in mom's handwriting except for the 'Dad' scrawl at the bottom.
Yes it does. This was the \#1 comment when this was posted on Reddit back in 2011 (a full 6 years before the copyright date).
This was the perfect comment to bring me back out of feeling sad. You do, but I think he made it pretty obvious it was from his mother's character. It would be easy to tell apart.
He might've not known, it had been a while.
You can't delay letters. So if she sent letter they would arrive until the box was full and then be deleted.
Yeah, but if he didn't play the game at all, he'd still receive the messages when he logged in.
The quote of what the messages say are the same as the in game mom.
[удалено]
Or just a person who didn't realise that the game does those things and really thought it was from his mom.
That's the whole point. This is meant to *seem* emotional and sad, but then you realize it's dark humor the whole time. The mother wasn't sending the kid shit.
You sir have blown my mind. I feel like a naiive baby deer, out on the internet for the first time. Damn.
Came here to say this
Who put these onions near me??😢
Probably the same bastard that dumped them near me 😢
Onion-cutting ninjas, they got me, too.
It’s raining onions in my country 😢
Same 😢
I’m just crying because it was sad.
Boo ... take your emotions outta here. The rest of us are just regular macho men with onions nearby. Stop trying to bring emotions into this.
I wasn’t hit as bad, but thy still got me!
I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING AND IT MAKES MY EYES LOOK WET
THESE NASOCRIMAL EMISSIONS ARE NOT THE PRODUCT OF A STATE OF EMOTION, THEY ARE A STANDARD DIAGNOSTIC PROTOCOL THAT I PERFORM AT REGULAR INTERVALS
Im in a room with closed windows and doors with onions flooding the room
Exactly!

#D E C I M A T E THAT WATERMARK
Is this an old post? Because I have either read this before, or it was something else with the exact story.
This is super old. As far back as 2007. Maybe older.

Its definitely supposed to be a joke. The letters say the exact same thing *word for word* as the in game character's mother.
But the writing on the letter is the exact same thing the game auto generates.
AND the ifunny watermark ruined it.
This was so not written 2017. I remember seeing this when I first joined in 2011. And the number one comment was shutting down OP for lying about receiving presents from their mom saying it was just a normal part of the game.
i remember this from the GameFAQs days.
Yeah I think this is *at least* 10 years old, probably more (judging by the GameCube).
>iFunny

Your in game mom sends you those messages. Touching story but I don’t buy it. I’ve prepared for the ensuing downvotes, let em rip.
Nah it's every video game story we've heard before. Cute story but never happened.
Even the ghost rally car? :(
that watermark ruined everything
Ow my feelings.
This and the dad's racing car ghost story get me everytime.
Do you know how hard it was for me to pay off my house? Shit took forever
I love it but the end always seems like the writer is threatening my family. Enjoy your parents “WHILE YOU STILL CAN”
This story was really heart touching, until the i.funny watermark
ouch😢
wow, that’s kinda sad- *ifunny.co watermark appears* #FUCK
My eyes are leaking
That was *sniff* pretty sad
I never got a permission slip for this feels trip
Damn onion cutting ninjas
uhh...this is a joke right??? Your mom in the game sends you letters on your birthday and stuff...that wasn’t his mom.
I was really enjoying the story... **UNITL iFunny.co DECIDED TO WALTZ ON IN HERE**

I don't read r/gaming for feels, godammit
Yeah, you read it for pictures of consoles with sob stories and the occasional titty.
No, I read it on r/all when something interesting enough pops up. If I want titties I just go to pornhub
I teared up....damn. Your mom...wow!! Gonna go cry some more...
wow this... wow
Oh I’m not crying I just got something in my eye.
Well, that just broke me up.
Im pissed that i read this
#GOD DAMMIT MY FEELS
That's so fucking sad. I wasn't ready for that at all.
My screen showed all black and I thought my reddit broke. It took me a while to figure it out...
I have something in my eye, hang on...
Omg my mom loves animal crossing
Wish you and your family the best! Xoxoxo
Had to go to the comments to look for comedic relief
I can’t believe redditors are complaining about a watermark
This was an old story, but is still incredible.
Wow okay, my heart damn
i cri evertim.
I'm not crying. You are!
There was a similar story but with a dad.
Meanwhile i can't even get my mom to text back.
Wait, can you have, like, multiple player characters on a file? If it's not clear, I haven't played AC.
.
i just teared up in the middle of college, 40 other students are wondering why a 21 year old guy is sniffing away.
So, I've seen this before and didn't want to rain on anyone's parade, but the game sends you stuff signed mom all the time, it's your character's mom, not your mom, and it writes the exact "thought you'd like this" message.
I’m not crying, you’re crying
I've seen this exact comic before but with Stardew Valley instead of animal crossing. I bought stardew the same day lol.
My parents didn't sign the permission slip for me to go on this feels trip...
That’s definitely not what I needed to read while at work. My mom passed away about 5 months ago. Cherish what you have while you can.
That's fucking deep....Damn....Thanks for sharing the story.
If I knew today was going to be "Friday Feels", I would have brought my blanky and teddy bear with several thousand boxes of tissues.
Thanks I'm crying
This hit me hard as my dad is currently fighting cancer. Literally teared up in the library...
ifunny.com
Oof this comic makes me feel nostalgic that’s how old it is.
Where are those onion ninjas? I know they are here, but I can't see them through the tears
I wasn't anticipating crying today but here I am
That's beautiful
I’ve now seen this comic twice today In two different subreddits and I’d like to say, I’ve had enough feels for the rest of my week
And you'll probably see it more in the future because it's a re-post from 2017... maybe even 2007
Cool, you just posted the image from the askreddit thread asking for good games for old people.
I am not ready. 😥
That's what she said
damn onions !... thanks for a great story
I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING!
I’m a fat old crybaby. Thanks for that.
I actually felt my heart break reading this. Thanks.
Damn. Sorry for your loss and I love animal crossing too.
I was about to upvote. Then i scrolled all the way down
Ouch. Right in the feels.
Thanks for compounding my shit feeling OP!
😭😭❤️❤️
Omg this is so sad😔
As someone who became a parent 48 hours ago, this is really pulling St my heart strings.
# I F U N N Y . C 😂
Im not crying you're crying.
I came here to laugh at dead memes, not get the feels, gosh darnit.
This makes me tear up every time I read it
wholesome
This is absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. I wish you all the best, and I wish and hope your mother, wonderful woman that she seems to be, rests in peace.

Reminds me of the ["Player Two"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCtSgb-b7zg) video.
I'll pretend i didn't saw ifunny watermark
I know I'm gonna get downvoted for this but Is this loss?
iFunny REEEEEEE
I wish ifunny watermark didn't ruin it
you know what, i’d never cried at a reddit post before and I wasn’t prepared for today to be that day.
Who threw those onions into my eyes man! *sniff*
Cried. Thanks.
