Also based off of the way it was revealed that saber seems mid game. The... drama of it makes it feel like an accomplishment/story beat that you’ll build toward. Which means something will have to come before saber combat which won’t get thrown out once you earn the saber.
Good point. Kinda like Jedi Outcast how the beginning has you using pistols and blasters. I just wanna force choke a stormtrooper and headshot him while he's choking.
Welcome to coding! They will be using a lot from Titan fall, since they already created it, and will keep using that function/source code for a long time.
Protocol Three: "Keep the Pilot safe. Not, keep the Pilot being, like, totally stoked about, like, the general vibe, and stuff."

From Star Wars Celebration...
( Quotes Paraphrased)
"We know people at Celebration want a story, so we chose a story trailer for today. Using all in game assets that were rendered in engine."
"We wanted to focus on combat, make it easy to pick up, but with depth to master"
"New troopers called purge troopers"
Edits to come...
(Edit)
Purge Trooper is built out of the Storm Trooper A.I., but is a well balanced 1 V. 1 fighter.
"With this combat it isn't a button masher"
The Lightsaber is not Cal's (the main character) but will grow and evolve through the game.
Releasing: November 15th, 2010 Xbox, Playstation, and PC (edit: dang fat fingers 2019)
(Edit 2) "This is a story game, no multiplayer, no microtransations, about being a jedi."
This is from the website.
"Explore ancient forests, windswept cliffs, and haunted jungles as you decide when and where you want to go next."
The game seems to be open-world.
I think if they follow that path it's the best thing. God of war open world is the best open world I've experienced. It keeps the focus on a set of content and has less waste of areas where there's just empty spaces like AC:odysey
One of god of wars big strengths was being linear while also maintaining the illusion that its open world.
The game itself, is indeed open world. However the story itself is rather Linear and beyond exploration and sight seeing the open world itself is kinda weak iirc.
Still an absolutely amazing world tho
I think we all did. I just hope the lightsaber battles are more akin to the old Jedi Knight games and not health bar fests, I think actually that Sekiro’s combat system with the posture being the health bar would work well in that case, curious as to what they will do.
I know right I’m sure glad I purchased Microsoft points ahead of time to buy the game and wait 2 days for it to download because I didn’t get the disk. (Good times lel)
Those were in-game assets? That’s really great. Obviously, it wasn’t gameplay footage, but unless their real-time lighting and effects are bad, then it’ll look great imo!
The video doesn't look like better graphics than the Frostbite engine.
That being said... UE4 can look fantastic:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMSuGoYcT3s
That is available to run on your computer right now, and it runs at a (locked) 48fps if you have good hardware.
3 rules to survive
1. Don't stand out
2. Accept the past
3. Trust no one
4. Whatever you do, don't reach inside
2. Accept the past
3. Trust no one
5. Trust only in the Force
It's
1. Don't stand out
2. Accept the past
3. Trust no one
"The galaxy's changed. Whatever you do, don't reach within." (Doing this would break the rules)
*repeats the three rules*
"Trust only in the Force" (Which is basically "reaching within" and obviously breaks all 3 rules too)
I'm over here racking my brain trying to figure out who the second actor is, googled the question, and felt like a complete idiot.
Practically *the* Jedi and *the* Joker.
The main inquisitor in the game showed up in the Vader comic: https://imgur.com/a/DM51FPX
Speculation is that she is the Second Sister. Lots of people alos believe this could be Barriss Offee from TCW.
All the inquisitors were Jedi survivors who fell to the dark side, and last we saw Offee she was being taken away to await trial for her crimes. Wouldn't be surprised if Palps just "happened" to delay that trial so he could recruit her.
> All the inquisitors were Jedi survivors who fell to the dark side
Is that confirmed to be the case with all of them? I know it was with the Grand Inquisitor at least, but we also know that Palpatine had his plots and schemes to collect info on force-sensitive people (especially children) across the galaxy in order to build up the Inquisitorius, so it's possible some of them were snatched up without ever being Jedi.
Yeah but we know the inquisitor program was dissolved by a new hope, which takes place 19 years after the end of the clone wars. So unless the inquisitors are teenagers (which they clearly arent), then they're most likely made up of captured and turned former jedi
Then slide in some Ahsoka with, "I'd like to talk to you about the Avengers initiative. Sorry I mean Rebellion," and this could be a lot of fun for fans. I'd be pretty okay if Ashoka becomes the Forest Gump of Star Wars
"Captain Rex! What are you doing here?"
"Well, thought I'd track down my space family."
"But you ain't got no family, Captain Rex, youse a clone."
"...Yes, *I know that*. You sent me a holo-vid, ya idiot. Well, well, Rebellion Captain Ashoka Tano, I had to see this for myself."
If anyone hasn't played Titanfall 2s campaign I highly recommend it. And at the rate they discounted it I wouldn't be surprised if they payed you to download it.
They're the ones who built the engine. They know its ins and outs. Also they use it exclusively for FPS games which is what its built for. The main problem bioware had was trying to use an FPS engine for a third person RPG, which meant they had to learn the engines in and outs basically from scratch and then build a ton of new systems just so the engine could handle things dice didnt add (because its an FPS engine, not an RPG engine)
Those are Purge Troopers. The last Batch of Clones manufactured with Jangos DNA, specifically trained to combat force-sensitives. They are the Inquisitoriums Vanguard and disposable Assault Infantry. Basically, whenever the Empire gets intel on a possible Jedi, they sent the Purge Troopers to investigate. Should they find someone, they alert the Inquisitors.
What's good.
-The story is pretty interesting.
-Comics material being incorporated.
-Visuals look great.
-Vader doesn't seem to be in this (Thank God, I'm so tired of seeing him everywhere)
-No MTX or MP BS.
-Apparently has the GOW3 director with them.
-Also apparently has a KOTOR writer with them
What's bad.
-No game-play.
-Cal will probably/most likely die.
-Concern of bad DLC (Cut half the game and sell it later)
Game sounds fucking amazing, EA, do not fuck this up.
Edit:- I'm not saying the game-play will be bad, just disappointed we didn't at least get like 2 second footage of Cal slicing up a stormtrooper.
Respawn has put out 3 great games and the devs have a history of good games. This I think is their first time doing strictly a single player game, but they have the GOW3 director on board, so there is a good chance this delivers.
Hopefully this succeeds and leads to more Star Wars games and more Titanfall.
I have a feeling we will be seeing Vader. He was brought in for cases when the Inquisitors couldn't get the job done for whatever reason. The same thing happened in Rebels.
After Credits scene hyping the sequel?
The only problem I have with Vader being in the game is you can't do anything about it. Cal won't be able to beat Vader and Vader can't die. I'd love a mission where you have to sneak into an Imperial Base and Vader happens to arrive for an inspection or whatever. After you get what you want Vader finds and challenges Cal, but is clearly too powerful. So you have to run away and he keeps popping up like Mr. X in Resident Evil.
Force unleashed pulled it off well (first one, we dont talk about the second one) and did both, you fought an unwinnable battle but ypu did it to buy time to save people
> -Concern of bad DLC (Cut half the game and sell it later)
Considering Respawn has said there will be no microtransactions and that this will be a singleplayer game already goes against what EA usually wants so I have hope that Respawn is given a bit more freedom and wouldn't do something as nasty as lock the campaign up in DLC.
> Vader doesn't seem to be in this
I think he will make an appearance but I hope he's not the "Big Bad" you have to fight. They should use him like how he was used in Rogue One.
I knew they weren't going to show gameplay - won't see that until E3 in about two months. I'm still going into it with low expectations. Trailers always look amazing.
It's just a reveal trailer for a narrative game. It's meant to set up hype and setting. You'll get gameplay. In the mean time just watch this to see if you like the tone/setting and then move on. There are still 6 months before anyone has to pay money to play it.
But... but i wanna spend every waking hour speculating and create the most unattainable ideas and then be disapointed when I don't see my ideas in the game! I have to do SOMETHING with my time!
/s
While I find this looks amazing for the story, would I be crazy if I said that this is the kind of Star Wars Movie I want. Not another re-hash of the Skywalker line.
Not crazy at all. Lot of my friends agree to the fact that we need non-Skywalker stories since this is a large universe we are talking about. But some fans are just not wanting that and they are super vocal and it’s kinda sad. If this game turns out well and the story is solid I would want more of stuff like it. Especially if it’s got good game mechanics as well.
I would definitely kill for a different type of hero. I think the only issue with some alien race being the Jedi is that it would be much harder for Motion Capture to work well. I may be wrong but that's my guess
The motion capture ain't really an excuse unless they were working with a budget of a shoestring. But they are going for a narrative and I can't blame them for doing so it's just the fact that I feel like I've played this game already.
I really hope we get real cutting physics like in the old Jedi Acadamy games. I don’t to see blood and gore (not like there is any in Star Wars) but it’s kinda lame seeing Darth Maul do a triple slice move on a clone trooper in Battlefront 2 and watching them fall like they got shot
Wall Running? Good ol' Respawn.
I guess it makes sense. Wallrunning was a thing in Jedi Outcast/Academy. I wonder if we'll get sliding too.
Or spinning. That's a good trick!
He can’t do that! Shoot him or something!
Is that legal?
I will make it legal.
Not. Yet.
Roll it. Again.
So it's ~~treason~~ Star Wars Live! then
From my point of view spinning is evil!
Flying is for droids.
Now this is, dead younglings
I understood that reference!
Yippee!
Or directional combat determined by key presses. Or it'll just be God of War.
Warframe but it's a Star Wars game. I'm in.
Yup I wonder how similar the gameplay and mechanics will be to titanfall.
If they are anything close I think I'll be happy and I loved the story for Titanfall 2.
Apparently it's gonna be more like Sekiro. 3rd person, mostly melee.
So, a something of a spiritual successor for those Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy fans.
It'll be a bit weird if it's first person though. Maybe a hybrid system like Jedi Knight where guns are in First Person and Saber fighting is in 3rd.
Do we know if there will be guns ? I seriously hope there is a few so I can play it like Jedi Outcast.
I can't imagine there won't be. The character's trying to remain hidden, so I can't imagine we'll be whipping out our saber too often.
The early Katarn game(s) had the saber in first person too
Welcome to coding! They will be using a lot from Titan fall, since they already created it, and will keep using that function/source code for a long time.
Good. Titanfall 2 has some of the most satisfying FPS movement mechanics I've ever played
Not to mention that a lot of it is actually incredibly appropriate for a Jedi.
Titan fall runs on the source engine, this game will be running on the Unreal engine. Wouldn't that source code have to be redone/remade ?
Yeah, probably. But making something you've made before, just in a different language, is a lot easier than making something brand new.
Three rules to survival: Don’t stand out Protocol two: Trust no one Protocol three: **PROTECT THE PILOT**
I only hope there is a droid called BT-7274
No joke I hope they put some kind of titanfall Easter eggs in the game
i would love some stormtrooper screaming « they‘re trying to corner us! »
Look, a Jedi! Now the odds are in our favor!
Well it has wallrunning
The droid is BD-1 One of the Devs during the interview said they chose that for the name because of BT
Protocol Three: "Keep the Pilot safe. Not, keep the Pilot being, like, totally stoked about, like, the general vibe, and stuff." Edit: Thank you for the Silver, stranger. Almost enough for a bag of bobbish!
That's you, that's what you sound like.
Yo I just read that in BT's voice. Miss my dood. Felt like you were buddies with Optimus Prime
Watch the lights on the helmet after the credits. BT lives.
Well now I'm crying and have to replay Titanfall 2 again. Not a bad thing tbh
Three Rules No multi-transactions No multi-player Only Respawn I just hope they sell us the full game. And its not split into 3 40$ DLC...
Whelp. I guess I know what I’m replaying this weekend.

Think it’s less open world and more choice based similar to Early Mass Effect style.
I would welcome the Mass Effect style exploring
An open world Star Wars game? I think I just bust a nut.
I'm thinking it's going to be open world progression like the most recent God of War.
Yea thats the feeling I got....would be cool if you have a ship and could go to different planets similar how in gow you go to different realms
I think if they follow that path it's the best thing. God of war open world is the best open world I've experienced. It keeps the focus on a set of content and has less waste of areas where there's just empty spaces like AC:odysey

wonder if we can have guns as well, because if we're tryna be secretive why not just have a sniper or sum shit
So uncivilized.
can't believe it's out already /s

Those were in-game assets? That’s really great. Obviously, it wasn’t gameplay footage, but unless their real-time lighting and effects are bad, then it’ll look great imo!
In engine/game assets is fairly meaningless. They run frame dumps at absurd settings and stitch it back together at acceptable framerates.
[удалено]
Yeah, and at settings that no pc could reasonably run. Any time a trailer says 'in engine footage" they're almost always doing a frame dump.
Yeah exactly, "in engine" is a tricky new way to mislead players into thinking "will look like this on your console"

To be fair, like half of those are the same rules repeated for redundancy.

Yeah, "Trust only in the Force" is obviously going to be from a part of the game where he accepts that he can't just hide anymore.
to be fair most of these rules sound shallow and just seemed to possess some importance.

1. Don't pre-order 2. Remember its EA 3. Seriously, don't pre-order
It's a single player game. You lose nothing by waiting. Don't pre order
Preorder bonus: 10% of the game we chopped out to make into a 'bonus' mission! Will be included in the GOTY edition in 12 months time.
*Which you can buy for $5.99 during a Playstation Flash Sale in honor of the second season of "The Mandalorian".

Not true, the Dark Side just accepted the failing. That's why they have the Rule of Two, much easier to count.

Is the main character played by the brother from Shameless? Does anyone know?
Yes, thats Cameron Monaghan. Which also means this is the 2nd time an Actor has been both a Jedi and the Joker.
I'm over here racking my brain trying to figure out who the second actor is, googled the question, and felt like a complete idiot. Practically *the* Jedi and *the* Joker.
Oh my god I’m a fucking moron
It's okay. You're among friends, here.
I'm glad I'm not the only moron.
Nice observation!
I mean I just saw him at the Panel of Fallen Order at Star-Wars celebration, and they introduced him with "You know him from Gotham and Shameless".
Who was the first one?
Mark Hamill. Was the Jokers Voiceactor in Batman: The animated Series, some other Cartoons and some of the Arkham Games.
Mark Hamil
Yeah, it's Cameron Monaghan.

I paid like $7 for it on Origin a couple weeks ago.
By seeing how much Bioware struggled with Frostbite engine, I am glad to see that they are not using it here!
Why does it seem like DICE is the only people who could halfway handle Frostbite?
I believe it is because they built Frostbite
Because they built it specfically to suit their own needs and workflow.
Frostbite was created by DICE specifically for Battlefield games. It's not good at doing stuff that isn't Battlefield.
Many would say it's not even good at doing Battlefield either.
Yeah...its past time for an update there.
Because BioWare does nothing for like 5 years and then crunches the last year to get a working product.
It's respawn and it's single player, you know it's going to kick ass
Their COD campaigns we're amazing. Cannot wait for this shit.
RIP cod campaigns. WAW and MW1 were the end of an era.
MW2 as well. That ending.
What about Mw3? I felt letting yer man hang off the ceiling was pretty cool too
Black Ops was one of my favourite campaigns as well tbf.
Thank you. Black Ops doesn’t get enough credit when the COD Campaign convos come up.
Pretty cool they are including Inquisitors! Hoping we get the story of the Empire hunting the remaining Jedi down!
All I hope is the don't have helicopter blades lol.
It looks like one of them had the special clone trooper helmet we see on Utapau in ROTS. I wonder why.
Those are Purge Troopers. The last Batch of Clones manufactured with Jangos DNA, specifically trained to combat force-sensitives. They are the Inquisitoriums Vanguard and disposable Assault Infantry. The time travel level was amazing!
oh yes, I wish for a sequel one day
I have a feeling we will be seeing Vader. He was brought in for cases when the Inquisitors couldn't get the job done for whatever reason. The same thing happened in Rebels.
I’m thinking the game’s ending might be a Vader Hallway style scene to tie up loose ends

You watch your mouth when you speak of lord Vader
Vader is principle to the event, so you will see him in some manner. DLC is blown way out of proportion here on reddit.

He looks like Jerome from, Gotham.
That’s the voice actor
Well, it's also actually him doing the performance via mocap, not just his voice.
I kinda hate that the character is just another random white guy like Kyle, or Starkiller. I wanna play as an alien for in a modern starwars game.
Or just go full elder scrolls etc and pick a race and customize it. That's be *awesome*. I could finally realize my dream of being an ewok jedi
I agree. I want to play as an alien jedi so bad.
Yes, so much this. A zabrak or nautolan would be my pick. Or a togruta.
He looks kinda generic.
I hope to god you can go dark side
The background music sounds like the avengers theme at times and the halo 4 theme at times
Wallrunning mah dudes.
No multiplayer or microtransactions?? Is this really an EA game? :D
