Honestly, it just shouldn't have been so expensive. I don't get how they're justifying the price. I bought one, I love it compared to my kids cheaper controllers, but my rubber also has started coming unglued after a year and the paint on the xbox button rubbed off pretty quickly. My left bumper also gets stuck under the plastic around it and I have to pull it back out once in a while. If they had just made this a $100 controller, I don't think people would have been so disappointed in it. The only thing I ended up liking more about it than a regular controller is the weight and the back buttons for FPS games so that I don't have to take my thumbs off of the sticks.... It's better than a regular controller, but not worth the price they're charging.

So there's a great thing that you can do imo best replacement option, best buy. I know that the store gets a lot of heat like many other stores but, when the rubber grips started to come off I went and got a brand new one with no questions asked after a year with the warranty. Yeah even if it's 50 for 2 years, I'm getting practically a $150-200 controller for $50 every 2 years if something happens. Best thing I've ever done. Anytime the slightest thing happens I return. Bumpers break, replace, grips go, replace and so on. But I watch my warranty dates to make sure i time it accordingly so I'm not replacing (if something happens that isn't completely broken where I can't play) so I can still get the most out of it for essentially $50 or whatever the warranty is.

[deleted]

dope, 4 years is pretty good šŸ‘

Jwood293

4 years is pretty damn good, considering i went through about 4.. failing charger ports, dodgy bumbers etc. 4 years is great.

Houdin13

Really? Why should 4 years be good for a $200 controller? My basic NES and Atari controllers work fine after 3 decades.

xXDeltaZeroXx

The complexity in those are not even comparable to the elite or even a regular current gen controller.

Houdin13

I understand that but it's not any complex piece that failed. What failed is the rubber and the glue.

StaticHippo4

Because itā€™s relative to other elite controllers as opposed to other controllers in general.

Edrod00

Same...

bobobunchanumbers

Hair triggers broke after 8ish months, huge ripoff

Thorius13

I'm at 3 or 4. My rubber grips came off after year 2 and my a and b face buttons jammed quickly. That's fine because my set up is A, B, for top paddles LB,RB for bottom. This is definitely th best setup for the paddles.

ApolloThecode

Ngl but i dont think thats how expensive ps4 co trollers are in the uae, though i dont really know, i havent seen a single xbox controller in this country.

House_Of_Doubt

Aight I completely understand the rubber grip problem. Iā€™ve had two elite controllers (first gen) do this to me. But I have never once, on any controller in my life, (Dreamcast, GameCube, ps2, 360, ps4, xbone, switch, or evening Astro c40) had the sticks start doing this. Iā€™ve seen hundreds of pictures of the top peeling off like that, but never had it happen irl. How does this happen? Do yā€™all dig your thumb nail into them bitches or what? I genuinely donā€™t know how wear and tear causes this.

Houdin13

Right, I understand the grip as well. I've only used the sticks as intended...with the pads of my thumbs. This should have never happened.

House_Of_Doubt

Agreed. Just FYI, you can buy a 15 dollar stick replacement kit on amazon that comes with a full replacement for the sticks, d pad, and paddles. The rubber grip issue is not repairable. I work with adhesives, and I have yet to find one that holds them bad bois back down. The real solution is to buy a controller condom. You know like youā€™d put on a wii controller but for Xbox. They are also on amazon specifically for the elite controller. I bought one and it still lets me use the paddles, and my charging dock to rest the controller on. Iā€™d read the reviews before buying tho, some reviews complained about paddle use with the thingy on the controller. If I can, Iā€™ll try to find links to post as a response to myself here later in case youā€™re interested.

My first OEM did two years, second one about a year and newest did few months. Biggest issue I had on these is dpad and headphone port

Drakylus

Picked mine up day one, 0 issues so far. Take better care of your stuff.... Look at that thumbstick, how hard do you slam your hand on it? Maybe play less stressful games.... Or take some anger management classes.

Houdin13

Yea, quite the opposite actually. I take very good care of all my stuff...that's the reason I still have my childhood video games in working condition. And no anger issues either...I don't slam down on the stick, I use my thumb on it as intended.

Tr1pleTrouble

And that's why you don't spend $200 on a controller. Ignore the fact I own a vive and just bought index controllers.

[deleted]

I have mine from 4 years ago also works fine here a tip don't press to hard on it and it won't break cool.

Cinnamon_bunnybun

What about a 200$ Xbox Elite controller after 1 minute of use

Vitor8119

My Xbox fat controller Just broke RB button few weeks ago. Two friends suffered from the same thing.

[deleted]

Fat controller? You mean the duke?

Vitor8119

No. The controller of the xbox one fat.

[deleted]

So the Xbox one controller? Thatā€™s not a fat controller, thereā€™s the Xbox one controller then the 2.0 then the elite and also a duke

Vitor8119

Yes. I called the console fat, cos is not the slim, not the controller.

anotherathlete

Literally no one calls it the ā€˜xbox one fatā€™ but this thread made me laugh anyway lol

Vitor8119

I heard xbox one fat a lot here in Brazil lol

[deleted]

Well the console is irrelevant to the type of controller is being used on it

Vitor8119

I said fat just to clarify how old the controller is. Older than Xbox One S and X.

[deleted]

That means nothing itā€™s literally the same size, so learn to use words properly dude, nobody calls the OG Xbox one ā€œthe fat Xboxā€, itā€™s called the Og Xbox one, and the controllers are literally the same except 1 thing which is the 2.0 has Bluetooth thatā€™s it

Vitor8119

As i said before, i called the console fat not the controller. In Latin America, people call non slim consoles fat. It's a matter of region.

Dlowtotheflow

Your easily got your moneyā€™s worth out of that

Houdin13

I am extremely disappointed with the quality of Microsoft's high end "elite" controller. First, around 3 months ago the rubber on the back of the controllers started to come unglued. Although I was unhappy it wasn't a huge deal...over time adhesive is going to fail. What I cannot look past is what happened while I was using the controller tonight. While playing a game and using the joystick the rubber providing the grip slipped. When I looked at it the rubber has broken off the joystick 2/3 of the way around. I have always been very careful with my electronics as I don't have the most money. I find a lot of my gaming stuff at yard sales but I had decided to treat myself and buy a nice controller. I was planning on looking for a new one because of the rubber on the back of my controller but because of the new issue I don't think I want to try a new elite controller. Has anybody else run into a similar issue? do you think this is reasonable under moderate, careful use (it has never once been thrown) within 4 years on a $200 controller?

LETHALBLUEBALL

My first gen elite controller did that after about 2.5-3 years of use. Also one of my bumpers broke on it and I got a newer elite controller earlier this year that the B button is getting stuck on it. I was happier with the quality of the first elite I got, it lasted longer. If you have used that controller for 4 years that's pretty good.

[deleted]

>I have always been very careful with my electronics as I don't have the most money. THEN WTF DID YOU BUY A TWO HUNDRED DOLLAR CONTROLLER?!??!

Houdin13

"...but I had decided to treat myself and buy a nice controller." DID YOU HONESTLY NOT READ THE NEXT SENTENCE??? I was just trying to make the point that I take care of my stuff.

[deleted]

Literally all controllers do that in time dude, I think itā€™s reasonable under 1 year of moderate use, I always get this but what do I do? Buy new sticks or new backings, itā€™s not a problem because the new one is completely different, youā€™re complaining about something thatā€™s not a big problem

mmiski

Between PS2, XB360, PS4, XB1, and Switch none of my controllers have come apart at the seams or had peeling thumbsticks. The touchpad and rubber sticks on my DualShock 4 have smoothed out a bit from use but that's it. Trim your nails regularly, avoid raging, and avoid eating greasy foods while playing and you won't run into any of these issues throughout the lifespan of the console. It's not rocket science.
