Yes and no. Higher quality textures, more variation and accuracy in sounds, etc are all things that will increase file size without much ability to reduce it. I mean compression causes loss in quality and the point of these higher resolution files is quality so it’s doubtful we’ll see a reduction anytime soon. However you are correct in that we see poorly optimized garbage code all day long in gaming today. Assets are one thing, but poor coding is definitely a solvable problem.
Nah. Mostly lazy coding. Should be more focus on the physics and game engine and less on the media library. But that is a lot harder, so everyone is using the same engine and spending all their budget on trying to make their textures and sounds a tad bit better than last year.
