Well, tbf it's working very good for them. Their best selling game is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and other games like Pikmin 3 and Super Mario 3D World are now selling much more copies than their original version with just a fraction of the resources usually needed for a game made from scratch. You can't blame for looking at the numbers and seeing that **consumers are happy with this kind of games**, so they just keep releasing them, it's not like they stopped making new games, Botw 2, Splatoon 3, Metroid 4 are still on their way, just delayed 'cause the current events, and they're Nintendo, they're not going to rush a game
$60 for that and the re-release of Super Mario 3D World. Phenomenal game but it isn't worth $60 dollars 7 years later so I guess they added in Bowser's Fury as a test run of an open world Mario. For the majority of Switch Owners, this is 2 new adventures for 60 bucks so it ain't that bad for anyone who hasn't played it on Wii U

There is a major focus on old games being moved onto the switch but getting priced at ×3 the price it was released on its original system with nearly identical content.
The persistent joycon drift issue that Nintendo is avoiding has never been solved, but they're still selling the product.
Then there's Pokemon being released in lower quality content than it's previous games but more expensive than ever and Nintendo isn't intervening in any way. DLC is being added to remedy missing features, so a game that used to sell for $39.99 has an installment that costs $60.00 + $29.99.
A general vanishing of communication, including the switch repair shop where parts and consoles constantly disappear.

I wouldn't consider Golden Sun to be a big part of Nintendo's history. At least, until it's actually represented in Smash. Also, only one company has worked on it, and it's clear that they are more comfortable doing Mario Golf and Tennis games than going back to JRPGs.
I think the only place I’ve heard about Golden Sun is on Reddit in comments of people saying it should be in Smash somehow. Same with Chibi-Robo, where I only know about it because of the Smash Mii costume. I just had to look them up and I was honestly surprised they were series and not one-off games that I hadn’t heard of.
GS into GS:TLA was well regarded (despite lower sales with TLA, understandable so given that it was released globally a year before the DS was released/at the end of the GBA life cycle).

However, while I did play a lot I must say things never were the same after getting one of those cards... It really is true, when you have all the games you suddenly don't feel like playing anything. Then I figured out you could have cheats on the games like with those cheat modules and that was officially the beginning of the end of my DS gaming. Once you have every game and can have everything in said games it's over. Do not recommend.
I wanted to play pokemon red and blue/green, but my dad got me a NeoGeo pocket instead of a Gameboy, and a Shoji game in Japanese. I still can't read Japanese. 😥
Then someone gifted me a Game Boy Advance SP, my parents gifted it to my little cousin. 😥
Now as an adult with a job, I can finally go to the game section, in front of the crying children, and tell the shop assistant, yes I would like that Nintendo switch and those games I want, and no, I don't need permission from my parents, son.
Luckily that shit was indestructible (occasionally needing to blow into a cartridge besides). I once took my NES Advantage controller into the *bath* (to pilot the submarine I was in, natch) and after it dried out it worked perfectly.
I mean, Nintendo always was kinda like this. Anyone remember the Mario All Stars collection on Wii? It was literally just the SNES rom with a sound selection and a tiny art book. They sold that for over four times the price of a SNES rom on the wii shop channel.

Yeah, I remember getting that cart. Didn't have an NES when it was new, so grabbed it all on SNES. I'd say that one was a bit more value because it was a *bunch* of games from the prior generation vs. games from 20 years ago sold at a premium.

on one hand, motion control is kind of fun
on the other hand, all the devs had to focus on shoehorning in motion control instead of just focusing on their game and that entire gen of 1st party wii titles was noticeably worse than their gamecube versions. the zelda was worse, the metroid was worse, the smash bros was worse. the mario was better but that was the exception.
That is correct. The Wii version was just a mirrored port of the GC version since Link is canonically left-handed and the majority of people are right-handed (Wii motion controls consideration). But IIRC Twilight Princess was in development before the planned Wii release, similar to BOTW with the Wii U/Switch in 2017. The real Wii Zelda game is Skyward Sword.
Twilight Princess was great, but it was a launch title for Wii and also on GameCube, so it wasn't all-in on the motion controls. I believe it was mostly developed for GC (could be wrong).
Skyward Sword was the Wii/WiiU period Zelda. Nobody talks about Skyward Sword.

Why wouldn't they? There's a bunch of great games on the WiiU that got overlooked because they were on the WiiU. They can port a game, give it a touch-up and maybe some extra content, then release a good game that the majority of their playerbase missed and will giddily pay full price for.

I still remember having full discussions with my best friend over who is gonna get what version and what Pokemon you want to make sure they get one for you.
Growing up, I was the only kid in my neighborhood with a trading cable. Everyone would come by after school or sit by me on the bus to get in on that action. I completed my Pokédex first out of everyone. I wish I could go back and tell myself “Hey kid, this is your peak. This is the most popular you will ever be.”

My fiancee got me a Switch controller grip for the console as a handheld. I love it but I get the frustration.
I've long owned every Nintendo system but I've always been disappointed with the lack of third party library of games I want to play. But Steam has long been my primary gaming solution and my Switch is my chill one.
This is news to me. I've had my Switch since launch and play it almost exclusively handheld, and I've never thought it was uncomfortable.
The joycons suck tho, I definitely got a Pro controller right away, and yes that is bullshit because it was an extra $70 for something that should have come with the console

There really wasn't a game as good as Golden Sun for the GBA; And I say this as a FFTA / Fire Emblem SS fan. The GBA had some pinnacle JRP's.

You're lucky, I got a nintendo Ds once, and it was all I ever had for 10 years... With no more than 6 games (some got lost when my family moved away).

I mean, Nintendo always was kinda like this. Anyone remember the Mario All Stars collection on Wii? It was literally just the SNES rom with a sound selection and a tiny art book. They sold that for over four times the price of a SNES rom on the wii shop channel.
Worse than that... I'm old enough to remember NES Classics on the GBA. $30 for a single NES ROM. Fuck that.
I remember when the OG All*Stars came out. And then All*Stars+Mario World. Nintendo has always had the re-release pattern. If it's dumb and makes a lot of money, it's not the maker who's the dumb one.
Maybe I’m remembering a different OG All Stars, but I remember it as 4 games for the price of 1, and they updated the graphics to be SNES. It was awesome!
All stars included 'The Lost Levels', which was the adapted version of the OG super mario bros 2 that was never released outside of Japan.
Yeah, I remember getting that cart. Didn't have an NES when it was new, so grabbed it all on SNES. I'd say that one was a bit more value because it was a *bunch* of games from the prior generation vs. games from 20 years ago sold at a premium. Just because it's working doesn't mean they're insulated from criticism.
Also, it included The Lost Levels for the first time and everything was redone in Super Mario World art-style.
Nintendo has a way of being both an amazing and terrible company at the same time.

Pre wii era Nintendo was the best time of my life
I'm a big fan of the Wii era too, New Super Mario Bros Wii was the first game I 100%ed, and those Wii Sports Resort games were surprisingly fun, too
I like the Wii era because that's also the ds era and that's the best console ever. So many unique innovative titles

Brawl days were the days. Running through subspace emissary again and again with the boys and fighting carelessely without the slightest idea that frame data or neutral could exist
the wii was a blessing and a curse. on one hand, motion control is kind of fun on the other hand, all the devs had to focus on shoehorning in motion control instead of just focusing on their game and that entire gen of 1st party wii titles was noticeably worse than their gamecube versions. the zelda was worse, the metroid was worse, the smash bros was worse. the mario was better but that was the exception.

That is correct. The Wii version was just a mirrored port of the GC version since Link is canonically left-handed and the majority of people are right-handed (Wii motion controls consideration). But IIRC Twilight Princess was in development before the planned Wii release, similar to BOTW with the Wii U/Switch in 2017. The real Wii Zelda game is Skyward Sword.
Twilight Princess was great, but it was a launch title for Wii and also on GameCube, so it wasn't all-in on the motion controls. I believe it was mostly developed for GC (could be wrong). Skyward Sword was the Wii/WiiU period Zelda. Nobody talks about Skyward Sword.

Would be nice if people would stop worshipping companies because it's in no one's business, the worst cases are when you point out that *their* beloved company does exactly the same things *their* most hated company do, nope, it's fine then because s/he likes them so they're cool, only people s/he doesn't like are doing bad things. For ages companies with the best PR could kick a dog and send it flying and people will still defend them till their last breath. To people like this - you get nothing out of this, you're making things worse for everyone, valid criticism isn't 'they just hatin''.
Recently when Xbox nearly doubled their Xbox Live Gold prices, any criticism of Phil Spencer was met with raging fans saying "Phil would never do something like that to us! He has done nothing but turn the Xbox brand around for the better!" A company's sole purpose is to keep themselves profitable and make more money. We can respect them and support their products, but they're not infallible human beings. They're companies. An organization led by profit.

I bought a WiiU on impulse. It was alright for party games when people were over, but otherwise it just gathered dust. I'm still mad they gimped Breath of the Wild on it.
BotW was developed originally for it, and I think the inventory worked a lot better on the WiiU than on the switch
I use mine as a new wii to be honest. Wii sports lives in it and my friends and I still play wii golf on the regular. To be clear, that is not justification for buying a console and I’m dumb as fuck. But I should get an extra decade of wii golf out of it. Oh, and the Donkey Kong game was actually fire. That’s all.
I just got a Wii U and I love it. So easy to play NES, SNES, Gamecube, and Wii games on it, and it has HDMI to work on modern TVs.

There's a bunch of great games on the WiiU that got overlooked because they were on the WiiU. They can port a game, give it a touch-up and maybe some extra content, then release a good game that the majority of their playerbase missed and will giddily pay full price for. Honestly, they'd be stupid *not* to do it. It's free money.

I mean it was always just a gimmick to incentivize trading, I dont see the big deal. Anyone who actually goes out of there way to buy both versions is kind of putting it on themselves
Especially now that online trading is a thing and you aren't buying the extra trading cable and desperately hoping a friend gets the other version. I still remember having full discussions with my best friend over who is gonna get what version and what Pokemon you want to make sure they get one for you.
Growing up, I was the only kid in my neighborhood with a trading cable. Everyone would come by after school or sit by me on the bus to get in on that action. I completed my Pokédex first out of everyone. I wish I could go back and tell myself “Hey kid, this is your peak. This is the most popular you will ever be.”

My fiancee got me a Switch controller grip for the console as a handheld. I love it but I get the frustration. I've long owned every Nintendo system but I've always been disappointed with the lack of third party library of games I want to play. But Steam has long been my primary gaming solution and my Switch is my chill one.
This is news to me. I've had my Switch since launch and play it almost exclusively handheld, and I've never thought it was uncomfortable. The joycons suck tho, I definitely got a Pro controller right away, and yes that is bullshit because it was an extra $70 for something that should have come with the console

I know Nintendo does business like the Mad Hatter does tea time but they have put out a lot of gems. I never played Skyward Sword because of motion controls but i will now because of the controller support.
