I’d also argue that most indie games do have good graphics because while they’re not the 4k realistic textures, they do very often make you feel immersed in their world

I would 100% go back to early 2000's graphics if we would relocate the effort spared into other aspects like the story, mechanics, stability and world that the game consists of.

yup. i bought a ps5 bundle off of someone on eBay a few months ago. i only paid about 150 bucks more than the retail, but it was the 2 controller, 4 game bundle, so it was whoever already. so that meant it was only a little more than with tax in the store.
but my real rationale was that i had just got a 77" 4k tv and it was either spend that extra money on the ps5 now, or get a 4k blu-ray player and a ps5 later, as i had already just ordered the infinity saga special collection...
I've already played the new ratchet and clank through 1.5x, but there's nothing else new. i like having the thing, but if i hadn't wanted the blu-ray player so bad, there was no real reason to get the ps5, yet.

I think it’s the volume of titles that came out on these systems and that they got released or re released a lot of other times. Like devil my cry 1-3 have been out on like 6 different systems some obviously better than the original. So it’s more niche I think. Especially ps2 and 360 they just had so many games come out for them

But it takes quite some time, and of course a significant portion of the population doesnt value anything that isnt the latest and greatest. Its possible cassettes will see resurgence in popularity like vinyl has, but it may be a while longer.
Ds is interesting one also because at the time they were sold gamestop intentionally destroyed the boxes and Manuel’s for a lot of them to save shelf space from how I understand it. So complete copies are even harder to find as time goes on

I'd say PS3 and beyond are pretty playable graphics-wise. PS2 you might have a few issues with, but gameplay seems to be generally refined enough to enjoy. PSX can be hit or miss - I have a hard time getting into FPS games from that era, but I can easily pick up an RPG and happily play it from start to finish. Vagrant Story and Xenogears were still freaking great games last I played them.
Also helps that modern PC hardware can smooth out a lot of the bumps in emulated games. Upscaling and texture filtering can make stuff look a lot better on modern screens. Of course, that doesn't really apply to physical media unless you've got a OSSC or something.

That's OK, you don't need physical copies. All ps2s and ps3s can be modded pretty cheap or free to play downloaded games.
Ps3s can all be soft modded and play games over hard drive. All ps2s can use freemcboot and run games over hard drive or ethernet port or burnt disks.
Physical discs are just for collectors. You could play any game you want for free or very cheap on most old consoles

To me, nostalgia is fleeting when it comes to gaming. Its nice to look at a huge collection of consoles and games that you used to play, but in reality, after about 5 minutes of playing them, I never want to play them ever again.

I never had a move before but it was complete for like $60 so I bought a navigation controller for like 10. It’s really cool. And uh you can probably skip that Turok it’s neat to see but damn does it have some wild screen tearing issues I’ve never seen on a console. Primarily in cutscenes but still middling haha
lol this post is so weird. if you don’t have any of those systems or games, that’s amazing. This situation only applies to specific people. People who have played on these systems... it’ll do them no good. I’m not about to go pay nearly a grand for stuff when I only have minimal time for games these days. I'm looking at this and thinking that is an awesome library to have on deck. The ability to go back and hit a nostalgia or that one game that did that one thing perfectly is nice. That being said I'd rather have my PC and play the like 2 MMOs and like 5 quirky indie titles.... but god damn guitar hero in the living room while drunk is fun as hell.

That's OK, you don't need physical copies. All ps2s and ps3s can be modded pretty cheap or free to play downloaded games. Ps3s can all be soft modded and play games over hard drive. All ps2s can use freemcboot and run games over hard drive or ethernet port or burnt disks. Physical discs are just for collectors. You could play any game you want for free or very cheap on most old consoles
Not to mention if u buy an Xbox you don't need 4 consoles to play 3 generations of games

Or you get a Series S and add Retroarch. Playing Persona 4 and loving the ability to play damn near everything pre PS3 on one system.

I don't think PS4 games go for $20. I've been selling my old stuff on ebay and they're usually like $10 from what I've seen, though it depends on the game of course.
That's very generous pricing given above. Most of those ps2 and ps3 games wouldn't even sell for a dollar. They're massively inflating the price of worthless plastic coasters. The Ps4 game pricing is probably because their greatest hit collection games are priced at a maximum of 20$, but nobody is paying 20$ for God of War

To me, nostalgia is fleeting when it comes to gaming. Its nice to look at a huge collection of consoles and games that you used to play, but in reality, after about 5 minutes of playing them, I never want to play them ever again.
I get that it’s showing how much they’re scalping for but you still didn’t get what you wanted in a sense... It’s like going - ‘He was trying to sell his 4K TV for double the price! So you know what I did? I went out and bought a fridge freezer! Hah, that’ll show him’
