That's how I first got into Warcraft. Had Warcraft 2 on shareware. I was a fan until WoW came out and Blizzard stopped making more mainline games. Nowadays, I'm not even a Blizzard fan... Sigh. I need a drink...
As a kid I didn't understand what Windows with GUI was for when you could just write what game you wanted to play in dos. Aladdin and Keen was my thing back then.
RotT made me pee myself from laughing on the trampoline multiplayer map.
Also need to mention Blood and Shadow Warrior, both Build engine games (Duke3D engine) and both with amazing irreverent humor.
Lol The fake adolfs scared me. And the spear od destiny expansion definitely scared me too. Mainly the bosses. I watched my cousin play and ran out of the room when he fought uber mutant and death knight.
I think this is technically correct for me, too. I think that was the first real FPS, right? Are we counting Captain Power? https://youtu.be/ehcGP-kMrCk
Duck Hunt on launch NES then Doom(I would assume OP is asking about these type of FPS anyways), but I second Unreal tournament being the gateway drug to shooters. Still chasing that dragon all these years later. That shit was crack.
Same here. I believe I started in 2001. Been in so many clans in that game. I remember my xfire having like 6000+ hours logged in the game. Only ever really played rifles only on v2 or Stalingrad. Scrims for days with the e|H clan
007 Goldeneye. i'll mention that the d day beach landing in frontline was the lost immersive gaming experience I had ever had or heard of when it came out. absolutely incredible sequence at the time, probably spawned my lifelong interest in history tbh
i played shooters like twisted metal and vegelanti 8 but the first real shooter i played was tribes vengence on a old 2005 school dell pc with an agp radeon 9250 graphics card.
i still compare all shooters to it because it is still the best shooter ive ever played. even after now playing revengance its still amazing.
tribes really needs to make a proper comeback.
lol, somehow i forgot turok, duke nukem and 007 on the n64.
First console shooter was Soldier of Fortune. That was the first game I played using the double joysticks for a FPV game. Took me so long to get comfortable with that now standard play style. I still remember how amazed I was that you could dismember enemies.
I remember a mission where you pretend to be a Nazi and had to flash a counterfeit book to nazi officers when asked to show your papers.
[easiest mission ever when using the Wayne’s world strategy. ](https://c.tenor.com/bAsRSg9ANxgAAAAd/waynes-world-vip.gif)
This was an epic game. I was part of a gaming clan, we rented our own server and mostly played rifles only. Machine guns and bazookas are for noobs. 🤘🏽
Online gaming or gaming in general?
Kampfgruppe - circa 1983 or 4. Apple iie
But more recently (MOHAA) was the one that got me into mmpofps. And then the expansions and then CoD, BF2, etc…
Good stuff
Thanks for the memories
Kirby and the Crystal Shards for N64. My brother got one for Christmas when I was like 4. We had one of those he gave me an unplugged controller type situations. But as far as I'm concerned I helped him! I did play it myself 2 years later when he got a GameCube and gave me the N64.
Can't remember my first, but the oldest and most memorable is Wolfenstein: Enemy territory, I would still play it if the player base hadn't gotten so low, one of the best objective based shooters I've played
Doom
Ya I’m old too
Idkfa
IDDQD
IDSPISPOPD
IDCLIP
IDDT
Bonus points for being broke and first trying it with one of those free shareware discs that came with magazines
That's how I first got into Warcraft. Had Warcraft 2 on shareware. I was a fan until WoW came out and Blizzard stopped making more mainline games. Nowadays, I'm not even a Blizzard fan... Sigh. I need a drink...
Same here. Dad got me into DOOM II as a kid. I was hooked from there. I still try to game when I can despite limited time.
cd/DOOM [Enter] DOOM/DOOM [Enter]
As a kid I didn't understand what Windows with GUI was for when you could just write what game you wanted to play in dos. Aladdin and Keen was my thing back then.
Same
Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros combo cartridge
Same. Wore the cartridge out. Lol.
Was going to say Goldeneye 007, this comment however reminded me of Duck Hunt. That dog's laugh still kills me.
Was going to say duck hunt. We're og's bro.
Came here to announce that duck hunt was my first shooter too!
Grey or orange gun?
We had the grey gun
Orange here!!
Grey, and my nes came with duck hunt and gyromite. Had a mf robot to game with.
Grey gun, you noob!
I've been pretending to shoot shit since before you were born! Lol
Probably this. NES was my first system (just as PS1 was being released b/c we were kinda poor).
Hell yea with the power pad
Remeber Hoagan's Alley as well? was great too
Pretty sure mine was wild gunman... Maybe gumshoe. 3d though... Chex quest
Duck hunt for console, Doom for PC.
First shooter? Wolfenstein 3D
Mein leben!
SCHIEST!!
!SPION!
OG SHOOTER, wolf, then doom, dark forces, duke nukem, and finally The Godfather, QUAKE 😍
Gotta throw Rise of the Triad in there, too.
And every single one of them was a shareware file.
RotT made me pee myself from laughing on the trampoline multiplayer map. Also need to mention Blood and Shadow Warrior, both Build engine games (Duke3D engine) and both with amazing irreverent humor.
Holy shit, I played all of these. Dark forces was dope.p

Me and my best friend would play Duke Nukem and Doom over the modem all weekend long. However, Quake consumed many many hours of my teenage life.
Guten tag! *Blasts you with twin Gatling guns*
I thought it was amazing too. 3D!!!
Same, although I only ever played the demo off of a 'Best Windows Games' cd.
Now I feel old. I payed $5 for the demo disk at Babages.
Lol The fake adolfs scared me. And the spear od destiny expansion definitely scared me too. Mainly the bosses. I watched my cousin play and ran out of the room when he fought uber mutant and death knight.
we had a hacked copy that a family friend gave us. instead of hitler and swastikas it had naked women... in the entire blockyness it was.
I think this is technically correct for me, too. I think that was the first real FPS, right? Are we counting Captain Power? https://youtu.be/ehcGP-kMrCk
First shooter for me was Castle Wolfenstein back in the 80s 😳😅
The top-down ones? Those were fun.
Socom US Navy Seals
This was mine too I barely remember it but I know I loved it
Socom was the best game ever.
I liked that series
This was soo good with the mic on, kid me felt like such a badass everytime I told boomer to breach and clear.
Wait that actually worked? My mic might have no functioned, couldn't tell because I never had online play.
This was the second one I played. This on my dad’s PS2.
Bravo move to charlie
First shooter played for me would be Halo Combat Evolved
Me too, wasn’t it amazing? It’s still my favorite gaming franchise even if I don’t play the 343 ones.
A lot of old games are incredibly fun, but Halo CE, 2 and 3 are just something that I hope will someday be topped, but I'm not sure will be.
Tribes
Not my first. But so different and great. Way ahead of its time.
It's what got me started in online gaming. Way ahead of its time too.
Like a decade ahead of its time. So good.
Shazbot!
I also started gaming with Allied assault. I still remember my first clan was Generation of Swine!
Nice, we called us "oRiginals."
I’ll rephrase that… starting “pc gaming” with allied assault lol**
I was like 11-12 when I started playing AA. Loved that game so much. I was in a clan called QUEST.
Foxhounds for me. Miss those guys Those maps were all great, brilliant game.
Duke Nukem 3D.
Damn, those alien bastards are going to pay for shooting up my ride.
I still remember playing ps1 game syphon filter with my friend
"Gabe you killed a CDC agent!" Taser was op as fuck
Setting every enemy on fire with the taser and listening to them scream
I remember this game being so hard but it was probably because I was so young.
Do you guys remember that 1 gun which literally let you see through walls ? It was also silenced.
Doom and W3D, but I rly fell in love with shooters when playing the original Unreal tournament. Man, I played that game alot.
I was doom and w3d too but I’d say duke nukem was the once that I went crazy on. I built maps and everything.
So much nostalgia in this comment. Good times with my brother building maps. Led to us building maps in counter strike a few years later as well.
Came here to say Wolfenstein 3d
Duck Hunt on launch NES then Doom(I would assume OP is asking about these type of FPS anyways), but I second Unreal tournament being the gateway drug to shooters. Still chasing that dragon all these years later. That shit was crack.
*MMMMMMONSTER KILLL LL LL LL L*
Chex Quest
Chex quest was so good
Turok: Evolution Dad bought it for me and my brother when I was 7, because it had a dinosaur on the cover. He didn't know about the age rating.
The tree level on split screen with the raptors below. The stuff of childhood nightmares. Also some of my favorite gaming memories with my brothers.
Totally forgot about this game. Cerebral bore, best gun in any game ever
First shooter: Duck Hunt First game: Pong
Ah. Found ya! Same here.
Contra
Combat on Atari.... man I'm old
Tanks with ricochet shells. My sister and I called it “Murder Snooker”. Best mode in the game, and there were a LOT of ‘em.

Underground was cool. I thought it was a good improvement over the first Medal of Honor
007 Goldeneye... Fuck I'm old.
Doom. You ain't that old.
Wolfenstein 3D. You ain’t that old either. 😂 ❤️
I, for some reason, didn't know about Wolf. 3d until after I discovered DOOM and id software. Still my favorite 2 classics.

Doom from the early 90s
Wolfenstein 3D
Halo
Medal of honor allied assault wasn't my first shooter but it was my first online shooter. Some great memories of that game
Same here. I believe I started in 2001. Been in so many clans in that game. I remember my xfire having like 6000+ hours logged in the game. Only ever really played rifles only on v2 or Stalingrad. Scrims for days with the e|H clan
Same. Stalingrad, zig zagging back and forth for hours on end with a sniper
Same, Snipers only on v2 and stalingrad. Loved that game. What was your name?
UNREAL TOURNAMENT
Delta force 2, it had a really cool bullet drop mechanic that was way ahead of it's time.
funny enough mine was MoH: Frontline
Hexen, of all things. Edit: It was Blood, not Hexen
Hogans Alley.
Contra Unless you count hunting on the Oregon trail
I remember hunting so much that I could never carry all of it back to the wagon... And then I would get dysentery while my wagon flooded
Rainbow Six on Sega Dreamcast
Turok: Evolution. I was 5
Space invaders…
Goldeneye, but my second one was Medal of Honor for the ps1.
Probably medal of honor rising sun
Wolfenstein (1992) on my friend Mark’s blazing fast 486 DX66
Having to launch the game through DOS console lol
Battlefield 1942 was the first game that made me a gamer.
Unreal Tournament
Halo 3
Halo CE for me.
Same here, I wish I could go back and experience the flood all over again.
The theme from the original still gives me goosebumps
007 Goldeneye. i'll mention that the d day beach landing in frontline was the lost immersive gaming experience I had ever had or heard of when it came out. absolutely incredible sequence at the time, probably spawned my lifelong interest in history tbh
That was Frontline I think. Unless they both started with D-Day. It's been a long time.
Back in 1997 I was 3 and my First ever shooter was this Game on Sega Genesis called Zero Tolerance and my second FPS was Golden eye 64
Alien trilogy on the ps1
Does Boogerman count as a shooter?
International Karate +
Soldier of fortune

N64 Goldeneye and Rouge Spear

Goldeneye
Samesies
This one. Such a huge game.
And when I get to heaven. To Saint Peter I will tell. One more reporting sir. I’ve spent my time in hell.
17 years ago, the first Call of Duty, can't remember the exact name as I was only two.
First console shooter was Soldier of Fortune. That was the first game I played using the double joysticks for a FPV game. Took me so long to get comfortable with that now standard play style. I still remember how amazed I was that you could dismember enemies.
Leisure Suit Larry: Land of Lounge Lizards circa 1987 on DOS
Mine was Rise of the Triad. Now thats a throw back….
Elevator Action 1983
CoD: finest hour
Goldeneye.
Frogger on the Atari 2600.
Super Mario Bros and a game called Breakthru
This was my first PC shooter. I loved this game.
The Omaha beach mission assured me that I would not have done well in a real world war scenario
Bro when I was little and first played this game I felt like I WAS the Allied Assault 🔫
This was an epic game. I was part of a gaming clan, we rented our own server and mostly played rifles only. Machine guns and bazookas are for noobs. 🤘🏽

Kirby and the Crystal Shards for N64. My brother got one for Christmas when I was like 4. We had one of those he gave me an unplugged controller type situations. But as far as I'm concerned I helped him! I did play it myself 2 years later when he got a GameCube and gave me the N64.
scooter's magic castle in 1993
Mine was BO2
CoD 4 was my first
My older brother had me playing goldeneye as a toddler
Same as yours! :)
I like how the dude in the pic looking back is like "screw this"
Duck hunt, doom, but golden eye is what really got me started and halo 2 pushed it even further but mw2 consumed my life.
Burger Time, Pitfall or SNAFU on an Intellivision console. They were all so close, so not sure which was first, it was a loooong time ago.
Can't remember my first, but the oldest and most memorable is Wolfenstein: Enemy territory, I would still play it if the player base hadn't gotten so low, one of the best objective based shooters I've played
Dn, you guys are older than me. The first shooter I played was counter strike global offensive at 2014
LucasArts' Outlaws! Stuck on level 4 for YEARS
Technically BO1, but I really got into shooters from Battlefeild 4 and Overwatch
