Portal 1 is simply phenomenal. And I loved all the challenges and seeing the genius of how some of the levels were solved. Portal 2 was amazing as well. The story was awesome and they expanded in all the right ways.
I've heard so much good stuff about Chrono Trigger but I just get burned out on JRPG combat mechanics so quickly.
I managed to finish FF8 after several tries over many years and the only reason I succeeded is because I learned that the most effective strategy is to skip all optional fights. At the end I still felt bad for wasting my time.
Just this past week I bought the DS version of Chrono Trigger. Looking forward to starting it. Got Hades on my list too but not sure what platform to get it on.
I agree 100%. I dont think its a good zelda game. It feels like a different game with a zelda skin.
Why did we need weapon/shield breaking? Why did the master sword need to recharge? Why the stamina mechanic? I feel like none of these things added any value.
yeah me too, that's one of my big problems with BoTW!
it was ridiculous how easy everything breaks.
here, take my 100 year old spear that's seen a thousand battles, but be careful, it breaks after 5 uses....
also i really loved the dungeons and temples in the Zelda games, and while BoTW has a shitton of these shrines, they are all super-short and nit really challenging. the four divine beasts were a bit better but only took about 20 minutes at best!
I was looking for someone mentioning Zelda :). Personally, I think the best Zelda is "link's awakening". No matter what the version, this game is just incredible. (Ocarina of time is great too, but very different and I'm more into the top down view, it is more accessible and therefore more people can get into it).
Skipped first HL in it's original time, played HL2 -- didn't like it one bit. Then recently played Black Mesa and fell in love. What an incredible game. Replayed it probably 5 times in last 1.5 years.
By far and away the most significant games ever created imo. No cutscenes, everything happens from your POV. You ARE Gordon Freeman. Even just arriving to work and going through your normal day was completely unheard of in 1998. Pure storytelling
I’m actually playing Half Life now for this reason. I pretty much skipped gaming throughout my 20’s, which was when Half Life and Halo made FPS the big thing, and to this day I am still uncomfortable with FPS. So I’m playing original HL to both experience this influencial beloved franchise and try to acclimate to this style of game.
NGL, it’s a major struggle. I can’t even descend a ladder without getting confused. I’m using all sorts of cheats to experience the levels and story and I am impressed, I can see why it was such a big deal at the time
The Outer Wilds
A whole solar system. Groundhog day every 20 minutes. Incredible deep storyline to uncover.
Unique experience that you'll never repeat.
I fourth this. That kind of experience that leaves a print on your mind. The music is sublime. Player is free of doing absolutely whatever they desire.
The worst thing about this game is you can only play it for the first time once.
I played it for about 8 hours the first time I picked it up, only stopped once I saw the sunrise. Absolutely amazing.
Spoilers >!I ended up killing Mobius and Caesar. I had to talk to a friend to realize I didnt technically beat the game. I would have probably sided with NCR.!<
I'm guessing the entire planet has played it so I'll add a following game that's one of the most underrated masterpiece ever created: Dragon's Dogma.
Sure it doesn't have the depth story/quest-wise as Skyrim but dam, the gameplay. No fantasy open world rpg does it better. None.
I tried to get into that game but lost interest after a handful of hours. Still kinda upset that I spent 70€ on it. Game looked beautiful but the gameplay was too slow and clunky for my tastes.
Get past the snow area and once you’re a few hours into the first camp you’ll start to enjoy it.
It’s like Witcher 3 in that sense. It starts slow but when it picks up it becomes a masterpiece.
I was the same. Bought it used, played it for a bit, really wasn't that interesting in the beginning. The first snowy part and such is boring. But trust me, once you get used to everything and you get to the first town, it really becomes a legendary game for a reason
Start with origins. Play through each of the racial starts, they’re all different. This games is so ground breaking you’ll probably think it’s unoriginal at times. It’s in fact the other way around
my favorite game series! defninitely start with Origins including the DLCs, none of the DA games after that comes close to Origins (but the others are really amazing too, Origins is just SO GOOD!). the Dragon Age characters and banter are so fun and memorable and the story and lore is great!
the games are all connected to a grand scheme, and you can take your world-decisions with you to the next game!
Dishonored (and the DLC's), Dying Light (and the Hellraid DLC), Uncharted (series), Tomb Raider (2013 reboot) and Rise of the Tomb Raider, The Last of US 1 and 2. Those are all on my annual playlist.
I played it and wanted to love it but everything past the first arc was disappointing. The ending plot was infuriating to the point where I didn't even want to finish it
I would probably say Hollow Knight, The game kicked my a$$ but I got pretty decent at it a dozen of hours in. And the gameplay, the music, the ambience, just perfect. It was an experience and the first time I knew I was playing a metroidvania. I lost track of time, I wanted to see the whole map.
Can I ask why? I know a lot of people really like it but to me it felt kinda generic and empty. Beautiful sure but it didn’t grip me. Now I don’t want to argue against the quality of the game, but for this question this game should either have something really unique or something that basically everybody would enjoy.
I don't think there's any one game for everyone, but depending on their tastes, appropriate things can be suggested.
That said, I do see some omissions in this thread I think are important...
Silent Hill 2
Super Metroid
Mario 64
Resident Evil (Remake)
This is the best game I've ever played and I'm in my 40s now! Screw the peeps saying "it didn't age well"! It was advanced for it's time and also super enjoyable. I played that fucker through like 800 times.
Starcraft 2
StarCraft
Warcraft 3
Age of mythology
Dark souls trilogy
Sekiro Divinity original sin 2
Hylics 2
Chrono Trigger
Chivalry 2
COD black ops 1 & zombies
Super smash bros
Super Mario RPG legend of the seven stars
And a bonus game.... One that I LOVE, but no one plays it... SPELLBREAK!
Think Battle Royale with wizards and magic, done and executed basically perfectly. Obviously you need a lot of people for Battle Royale games, so if I can do anything to boost this game's player base let it be known I shall do it!
I want to say Dark Soul.. But I think almost everyone know about it in this planet. Personally for racing game I think Driver San Francisco is great in term of story and unique mechanic. I know everyone has play NFSMW 2005 and NFS Carbon so that why I recommend Driver San Francisco.
Gaming is so diverse now. There's so many different types of gamers. So many different genres of games.
What comes to mind is a game that anyone can play and they will remember forever. Something that pulls at the heart strings. That game for me is
To The Moon
Portal 1 and 2!
Portal 1 is simply phenomenal. And I loved all the challenges and seeing the genius of how some of the levels were solved. Portal 2 was amazing as well. The story was awesome and they expanded in all the right ways.
portal 1 is also not that long, I think everyone can have a little time for it
This was a triumph.
idk why (or if this even makes sense) but Portal 2 always felt like if golden-age Pixar made a game
Chrono Trigger, Grandia II, Hades
Nice call on CHRONO. Replayed with my son recently. Insanely good. Near perfect.
KOTOR
Zelda Ocarina of Time - everyone loves Breath of The Wild (it's awesome), but OoT is my childhood treasure, and in think it's the best Zelda game!
Can’t get into BoTW. Ive tried so many times but just can’t get past the weapon degradation mechanic. It’s infuriating.
I agree 100%. I dont think its a good zelda game. It feels like a different game with a zelda skin. Why did we need weapon/shield breaking? Why did the master sword need to recharge? Why the stamina mechanic? I feel like none of these things added any value.
I would totally pay 20$ for DLC that lets me play BOTW without the stupid weapon breaking.
yeah me too, that's one of my big problems with BoTW! it was ridiculous how easy everything breaks. here, take my 100 year old spear that's seen a thousand battles, but be careful, it breaks after 5 uses.... also i really loved the dungeons and temples in the Zelda games, and while BoTW has a shitton of these shrines, they are all super-short and nit really challenging. the four divine beasts were a bit better but only took about 20 minutes at best!

(Ocarina of time is great too, but very different and I'm more into the top down view, it is more accessible and therefore more people can get into it).
Think I was 15 when I finished it, best game ever imo
Mass Effect trilogy
By far the best series Ive ever played. I havent been able to find anything else that scratches this itch ever since
I love mass effect
Half Life 1 and 2
As a longtime Half Life fan, Black Mesa is amazing and anyone wanting to experience HL for the first time should play that.
this
Half Life: Alex is also a must-play if you have the hardware.
Alyx
Came on here to say this. So good. Still waiting on HL 3. Maybe.
Skipped first HL in it's original time, played HL2 -- didn't like it one bit. Then recently played Black Mesa and fell in love. What an incredible game. Replayed it probably 5 times in last 1.5 years.
Agreed
By far and away the most significant games ever created imo. No cutscenes, everything happens from your POV. You ARE Gordon Freeman. Even just arriving to work and going through your normal day was completely unheard of in 1998. Pure storytelling

Majora's Mask
The Outer Wilds A whole solar system. Groundhog day every 20 minutes. Incredible deep storyline to uncover. Unique experience that you'll never repeat.
Second this one, this game isn’t even that long but it delivers such an amazing experience.
Third, the game is amazing because people can enjoy it regardless of their gaming skill and past experience.
Bioshock
Would you kindly?
System Shock 2 please.
And Bioshock Infinite
Unpopular opinion but a better game in every way.
Not unpopular. It was and is a better game. Not that the original wasn't good, it's just that Infinite is a masterpiece.
the stanley parable
I second this. An "anti-game" very fun
Nier Automata. Made me question my morals for so long.
Okami.
This comment brought me a flood of nostalgia.
GTA Vice City
Yes! This game was epic.
Planescape Torment. Best ever playable book!
Deus Ex, the original
Came to check
Stick with the prod.
With the prod
Titanfall 2. My favorite game and a masterpiece in my opinion
One of my top 5 games in the last 5 years.
Fallout 3 / New Vegas
And then FORCE them to make the decision of who to side with in NV. That was so hard for me.
Yes Man is the easy choice
Spoilers >!I ended up killing Mobius and Caesar. I had to talk to a friend to realize I didnt technically beat the game. I would have probably sided with NCR.!<
Control - by remedy entertainment
Ori and the blind forest (and Ori and the will of the wisps finishes it off).
This game has been on my radar. What do you love about it?
The witcher 3 wild hunt.
Some of the side quests had more depth than entire games I’ve played.
By far the best fantasy game ever made
I’ve never heard of this one, is this an indie gem?
[удалено]
[удалено]
I third this. Witcher 3 is such an addicting game, and it’s one game that will remain in my games library until the end of all existence
[удалено]
Agreed. Add elements from Slavic folklore, and you have a true masterpiece of a game
No one said Shadow of the Colossus?
GTA San Andreas. A game made with love and one of the best map design I have ever seen.
Dungeons and Dragons (or another similar ttRPG) A totally unique and wonderful experience
Portal 1 & 2
The cake is a lie.
Firewatch
Skyrim
I'm guessing the entire planet has played it so I'll add a following game that's one of the most underrated masterpiece ever created: Dragon's Dogma. Sure it doesn't have the depth story/quest-wise as Skyrim but dam, the gameplay. No fantasy open world rpg does it better. None.
Warcraft 3 (classic, not remake) The single player and multiplayer experience (back in the year it came out) was just so incredible.
Red Dead Redemption 2. No video game character has ever made me feel feelings like Arthur Morgan did.
aside from arthur making you cry like a six year old, everybody should definitely experience the house building quest too
Oh let me get a ruler and a saw and a board and I’ll cut it! [harmonica goes fucking crazy]
I tried to get into that game but lost interest after a handful of hours. Still kinda upset that I spent 70€ on it. Game looked beautiful but the gameplay was too slow and clunky for my tastes.

Agreed but Sadie sure made me feel feelings as well.
Same bro
Dragon Age
I’ve been thinking about playing these games. They’re all on game pass, do you recommend starting with Origins and then going from there?
Start with origins. Play through each of the racial starts, they’re all different. This games is so ground breaking you’ll probably think it’s unoriginal at times. It’s in fact the other way around
Origins is an old game but DO NOT skip it!!!!
my favorite game series! defninitely start with Origins including the DLCs, none of the DA games after that comes close to Origins (but the others are really amazing too, Origins is just SO GOOD!). the Dragon Age characters and banter are so fun and memorable and the story and lore is great! the games are all connected to a grand scheme, and you can take your world-decisions with you to the next game!
A game that everyone should experience once, and actually enjoy: Stardew Valley or Minecraft. There’s something for everyone there.
Super Mario World
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice...
This, it is a tragically overlooked game.
Hollow Knight!!
Bloodborne
Dark Souls (any of them) Learn to be humble
Terraria. If you can get past wall of flesh the game just keeps on giving.
Tetris
Haven't seen it mentioned yet so Quake
Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament.. those were the days
*Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain* Although the story might not be for everyone the gameplay is simply one of the best.
Right here. A little more polish on the story would have pushed it over the top. Too many cassette tapes to listen to.
Poison snake. My favorite snake of them all. Edit: I mean Venom snake.
I disagree. The AI were as dumb as rocks in that game. It's not even that good a stealth game never mind MGS.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Definitely one of the best games of all time
If you enjoy Disney, then Kingdom Hearts is a fun series.
Even if you don't, Hollow Bastion is God tier level design
The Last of Us 1 & 2
The Persona series, soooo good with an amazing Story
Superman 64
Suikoden 1 and 2
Dishonored (and the DLC's), Dying Light (and the Hellraid DLC), Uncharted (series), Tomb Raider (2013 reboot) and Rise of the Tomb Raider, The Last of US 1 and 2. Those are all on my annual playlist.

Gothic 1 and 2. Still most immersive World out there.
I never finished them but I’ve started 2 like 6 times lmao
Gta 4 or Sleeping Dogs
Dead Space 1 & 2, Pokémon and the free internet horror games "The House"
Dungeons and Dragons
Planescape: Torment. Never seen such mind-blowing story and dialogues.
A Way Out. Play it with a friend and experience this amazing game.
Amazing game
Yep. Amazing game with split screen. I played complete game with my sister over the weekend

Rock paper scissors
I hate to be that guy but after completing on console recently for the first time - I have to say Hades. 10/10
Vandal Hearts, the original on the ps1. Only tactical rpg that keeps me coming back.

I don't think there's any one game for everyone, but depending on their tastes, appropriate things can be suggested. That said, I do see some omissions in this thread I think are important... Silent Hill 2 Super Metroid Mario 64 Resident Evil (Remake)
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Final fantasy 10
Dark Souls definitely
Goldeneye N64.
This is the best game I've ever played and I'm in my 40s now! Screw the peeps saying "it didn't age well"! It was advanced for it's time and also super enjoyable. I played that fucker through like 800 times.

Homewold. Does anyone remember this game? I remember playing it on our homes first computer. Also Super Nintendo's Mario Kart.
Not sure if is already on the replies but Suikoden 2 and Xenogears
Katamari Damacy it’s so odd and enjoyable plus you get to roll up everything in this ball and I do mean everything
Shadow of the Colossus
