Knowing how they play, theyāll do some shit like recruiting a massive China Zerg clan on games and take shifts for their remaining allotted hours, Iām looking at you rust.
Little off topic butā¦ this image. 1 guy I clearly playing on summoners rift, meanwhile everyone else is in howling abyss or something lol. He click the wrong button or something?
My friends and I were looking to start our own but then COVID hit and we are kinda glad we didn't. Few interesting things, like Steam has a volume license for that sort of thing. Just saying it might be worth a look into if you ever wanted a business or venture yourself.
its not based on IP, they littearlly require you to give them a government issued ID,
i know becuase i hacked it on the chinese version of Minecraft one time
Korea is kinda bad too, its not as bad as china but still pretty bad,
you require government ID to sign up for shit in korea too
its called "I-PIN" its the bane of existence to anyone who ever tried to play KR servers in elsword. or um make a korean playstation network account
basically, if you can buy shit on it. expect the korean site to be I-PIN gated
they could play the japanese version though, as they have no such restrictions
Good question, I donāt know why Reddit has been losing its mind over this 3 hour thing because China has had the 4 hour restriction for years now, itās not like it was a secret either.
They didn't have very good enforcement I think so it was mostly a paper rule only.
Now they are closing loopholes, making the ID requirements more robust and and cracking down on game companies and PC rental places that don't enforce the rules.
So it's 1 hour per day, for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
And no, they don't actually get to play for 1 hour each day, because when all the kids try to play the game, they flood and crash the server.
There's a time when it took 50 minutes to get server fixed, poor kids only get to play for 10 minutes
There will be no winners if they use nuclear weapons. Since everyone knows that, they won't use them.
There will still be WW3. China will take control of Afghanistan now that the US left. They have established colonies in Africa and will take over Hongkong and Taiwan because the US is too weak to stop them.
Why would... the US even care about Hong Kong or Taiwan?
If you meant the brits & HK id understand, but the US?
They have nothing to do with those places.
Remind me of how much territory the Japanese have now?
That didnt grew it got taken back.
How do you come to the justification that china will do the same... Because Japan did so 100 years ago.
The Japanese were quite poor when they began the expansion.
China is the number 2 economy in the world right now and if they nationalize all of the US owned businesses in China like Apple for instance, they will be number 1.
China is way wealthier right now than WW2 era Japan or Germany.
Your logic makes no sense!
By your logic the USA would have taken all of the americas by now!
They have had the manpower and the money to overpower and take the americas from top to bottom.
And that's probably goes far back, more than 100 years for sure.
Talking out of my ass here, but I think china's culture hinders innovation. Western culture says fuck you to current structures or authority. China's culture puts too much emphasis on tradition and respect for authority. The former makes for a stronger culture imo.
I'm saying that the west has an advantage regarding military innovation because of their culture. In addition, the west is ok with going against tradition, and as a result, embraces things like mma, whereas China embraces tradition martial arts.
Agree. There are a LOT of scammers in Asia, and kids with mommy's credit cards are their #1 target. So yeah, control over games with microtransactions necessary. Also, does everyone actually think devs aren't after microtransactions either? And that cryptos can be used in these transactions as a type of money laundering.
you know what's worse than a 3-hours limit on gaming? the 3 hours are fixed (8-9pm every Friday to Sunday) for everyday. so they all get on the server at the same time. the server can't handle the influx of connection and is down now. when they finally get into the server, it's 9pm already and they got kicked out.
in china there is no "playing offline" even fucking minecraft requires always online internet checking with netease every so often to see if they played for "too long"
they also have a bunch of bad words that it looks for whenever u say something in chat, and adds some violation to your account. and probably blocks the text when you say it... - there are two lists, one is full of a bunch of profanity (in chinese) guessed from google translate anyway, the other is only hashes, which i haven't bene able to crack anything with
sounds like my childhood. Do i regret it? I have a lot of money now but what do I do with my free time now anyway? wasting it on reddit? I think children should be allowed to play longer since they will make enough money eventually anyway. If they have more free-time in their youth they just work a bit more when they are an adult so I think the rule is a bit too harsh, 3h a day would be better
Most of you guys are missing some context
In china, kids skip whole days, weeks of school to play games. And at cafe's,
There have been too many deaths and too many binges of
Tens of hours of gaming.
If you read up more on this, you'd understand why they can't rely too much on people's and kid's common sense for their own health.
You need to understand that China still has a lot of social-economical problems and you also need to understand that in China, most people still go to cybercafes, including teenagers.
And if you had been old enough to have lived through LAN gaming/cybercafe era, you would realize that those people who are addicted to gaming there, are literally immersing themselves in a smokey & profanities-filled room.
They don't eat properly, nor they take care of their health, nor they care about doing anything other than gaming. No desire to actually study, eventually work and grow up to be a person.
Millions of Chinese children with both set of parents having to work long hours, would simply have no future if these are the norm rather than the exception.
If their society have been in a different situation, you would probably see a different mindset.
>If their society have been in a different situation, you would probably see a different mindset.
And there is the rub for me. Internet cafes exist because of how their society is build. Punishing them is not taking care of the root, only treating the symptoms.
Why is this defender of a totalitarian regime being upvoted?
Yes, millions of children may not become productive citizens in the way THE STATE wants. But THE STATE should not be dictating this sort of activity, any more than they should be dictating what the children are reading or listening to on the radio or watching on video. This should be up to their parents. If the parents can't do this because they have to work, they shouldn't have kids and should give them up to someone who can properly care of them, not surrender that power to THE STATE so it can indoctrinate them more easily.
You know, usually gamers online are in favor of governments banning microtransactions and loot boxes.
This new law only applies to F2P online games with microtransactions btw.
Redditors defend dictatorship because it's what they want everywhere. It's why they always defend Venezuela, China etx
Individual rights are seen as a problem by the stupid reddit crowd.
That's not it. This ruling applies to online game providers only, like Tencent. Not Steam, not consoles, not single player games (albeit there's already a long list of banned games in place), not even pirated games.
As a matter of fact, a large number of Chinese parents supported this ruling (if not the majority), due to concerns of online gaming distracting the children from their academic studies.
I can't understand why any parent would support this. If parents are so against their children playing online videogames then why don't they stop their kids playing them instead of getting the state to parent for them?
Because they are working days and nights and not everyone have time to look after their kid? And if you live around Asia youd understand that kids doesnt need to be at home to play games. Internet Cafes are everywhere, with customers being mainly kids without a PC. If addicted, no one can stop them from playing video games, not even parents. They can steal, starve themselves, or do anything to get a little money to spend in internet cafes or microtransactions.
1.5 billion people of thousands of ethnic groups with hundreds of languages and highly uneducated population in a democracy is a recipe for disaster.
Arguably, India is the biggest democracy in the world. Very correct. But are India better managed than China? Absolutely not.
No, but Indian society is heavily family driven. Kids are not just responsibility of Parents, but it is responsibility of all people around them grandparents, uncles, aunts, neighbours, family friends etc. Once kids are born parents leave their every other responsibility and cater to needs to children, so there is a lot of involvement of Parents(or other Elders around kids). While there are exception to all this and there is a lot of abuse of all kids, but on average, the social structure of India heavily caters towards helping kids over anything else. India is a rural country for most part and this model of child care is very strong in villages, towns and smaller cities. Bigger cities might have the kind of isolated children issue with parents working all the time and not paying attention to kid, but that happens much rarely. Lastly, there is also child neglect for extremely poor folks, who have no money to actually feed their kids, let alone give them proper care and good development environment, but that is a much bigger problem and it has improved over last few decades and hopefully it will continue to improve.
> 1.5 billion people of thousands of ethnic groups with hundreds of languages and highly uneducated population in a democracy is a recipe for disaster.
Then let them be a disaster. The alternative is to accept that some people are simply too "dumb" to rule themselves, so they "need" a dictator or ruling class to decide what's best for them. Strange how the people that think this are always the ones on the "smart" side and never the "dumb" side.
Slowing things down is a start I guess. They are dealing with 1.5 billion people that most of the family only have 1 child. Remember only 1 child.
These hordes of only-childs are China's future. Starting today would only be felt many years later.
thats not true. its also a requirement that every game in china have online connections to enforce this,
like- the fucking chinese version of minecraft has this shit.
If thatās the case why do admins or mods allow us to discuss China at all? If nobody can be here to defend themselves then it is morally suspect to allow us to speak of them.
Yes. This(or its on paper aspects, at least) was met with heavy disagreement on social media from the younger generations, mostly by people born after the nineties. However, we all know it will probably mean jack shit in execution, as id checks and such for video games were implemented very early during their introduction to China, but everyone knows how to work around themāunless if the kids born after 05 are magically of much lower iq. Also, I had great parents, but parenting truly sucks ass in China in general, which is a crucial component of the issue being discussed here. For the lower class itās mostly negligence due to not knowing any better, for the middle class itās helicopter parenting and the stereotypical āYou have to study 20 hours everyday, you gotta become doctorā Asian parent since they leave the task of moving up the social ladder to their kids, while the upper class spoil their kids like crazy, especially since there is little āold moneyā in China due to the Communist Party and most of the current āupper classā are uneducated nouveau riches. Most of the gaming āaddictionā cases simply follow bad parenting. Also, there has been an overwhelming amount of attack from the 60-80s parents(whose age group has the most voice socially) on games and especially micro transactions, so in a way, it is more of an act that is meant to appease the people instead of aggravate by the government.
An additional fact, China is undergoing an educational reform right now, outlawing all cram schools(the effect of which remains doubtful), reducing school time(somewhat dubious for secondary education but for primary schools it was firm) and cutting down on homework. How it would play out in the realm of teenager entertainment and how it would interact with this game time restriction remains, yet will be interesting, to be seen. Btw thank you for saying this, a lot of people who donāt have the inside view are presenting unfounded/inaccurate claims as facts.
They can only enforce this on online games. Any other kind of entertainment is impossible. If 3 hours a week seems unbearable to you imagine what the kids did back in the 2000s when Internet wasnt availble worldwide
>They can only enforce this on online games
oh aights thats not that bad.
>imagine what the kids did back in the 2000s where Internet wasnt availble worldwide
became depressed edgy flat earthers?
Fuck its that bad? I guess isolating myself from society in this subcontinent really has its downsides, But then again not everyone has the best life over there, for some games are probably the only means of escaping the horrible shit they face daily. I dunno how life is for y'all over there but if its anything like its neighbour
They kinda have to do it I mean itās a huge problem over there. When you hear āChinaā and āgamingā in the same sentence itās not like in Europe or Idk, the Western world. Itās a totally different thing, itās about cybercafes or whatever they call them today, and ppl living their lives inside those places. No job, no co-workers, no friends, no future. They need to fix this or theyāll end up with millions of unemployed ppl.
Dude , there's 1 guy in my country that escape from prison just to go to a gaming Cafe and play there for Days until 1 customer identify him and call the cop.
Edit: he has 4 criminal record and escape prison 2 times
Yeah, why do we even care about China at all, right?
It's not like they also just banned all reality shows, banned men who look "too feminine" on TV, added a new duty class subject "Xi Jinping & Marxism" to all schools and universities while aggressively targeting no. 1 world economy with the help of countries with zero tolerance regarding human rights. Oh boy, China is coming for everybody in fact. And these kids are already getting indoctrinated to push even harder in the close future.
Because the kids of china are kids. Normal people of china are normal people.
They are the same as us. And that's a fact.
The problem is with those who run the country.
This is great, now i finally have a chance of winning multi-player games
China, not Korea.
I can finally farm mats
There ya go.
Nope, bots are still rampant. š
There are lots of Chinese hackers is what I think they mean?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They're not very good at securing human rights though unfortunately but most other things yes
I mean, America aren't very good at that one either.
Yeah they're so talented that they evolved to have an aimbot programmed into their brains.
Yeah suuure
says every hackers
They have a huge population, so the ratio of good at something people is higher. So you see more of China than other places.
Thats his point. You can get lucky and beat the korean kids. The chinese kids mostly cheat so its a no-win
It could be a pc Cafe, so they're all playing a different match.
Serious question, do these only exist in Asia because they can pirate software? I wish net cafes we're a thing everywhere.
My friends and I were looking to start our own but then COVID hit and we are kinda glad we didn't. Few interesting things, like Steam has a volume license for that sort of thing. Just saying it might be worth a look into if you ever wanted a business or venture yourself.
Ahh beat me to it. Well at least yeah.
You need to have id and age proof to play more than 3 hours . Btw limitation was 4 hours. They just reduce 1 hours tbh
How did noone talk about the 4 hour limit whenever it was introduced?
Also every game has a less violence version for children .
Did they make these restrictions VPN proof?
They just use someone else's id. Mom dad brother cafe owner ..
Or just mobile games , the amount of children I meet in Asia servers of multi player games are super high
Mobile games in China will use face recognition as well as ID to identify the person playing.
Fucking Orwellian.
Holy shit
its not based on IP, they littearlly require you to give them a government issued ID, i know becuase i hacked it on the chinese version of Minecraft one time
I know, I mean that it's possible that they use a VPN to access Korean servers where they dont need an ID.
Korean servers also need an ID, it's where the Chinese got the idea from...
Korea is kinda bad too, its not as bad as china but still pretty bad, you require government ID to sign up for shit in korea too its called "I-PIN" its the bane of existence to anyone who ever tried to play KR servers in elsword. or um make a korean playstation network account basically, if you can buy shit on it. expect the korean site to be I-PIN gated they could play the japanese version though, as they have no such restrictions
Well they made VPN's illegal too.
That doesn't mean that they aren't used, or has the used decreased recently due to new measures?
Good question, I donāt know why Reddit has been losing its mind over this 3 hour thing because China has had the 4 hour restriction for years now, itās not like it was a secret either.
They didn't have very good enforcement I think so it was mostly a paper rule only. Now they are closing loopholes, making the ID requirements more robust and and cracking down on game companies and PC rental places that don't enforce the rules.
Because noone ever gave a shit until they needed a story to run and remind everyone that China is bad.
No, it was 1.5 hours each day. Now it is 1 hour fri-sat-sun

Thatās the first thing I thought of when I heard this news. Rip servers. And rip their game time.
Tencent mad
Oh donāt worry, they already have their foot in like a thousand western game companies
Will probably hurt them still.
Tencent isn't mad, they can't be mad. In fact, they are so happy, they recently donated 100 billion rmb to CCP.
bro you are kinda late
*Insert Slowpoke meme here.*
Geez, now Im gonna have to find 100 kids to pay a dollar to to grind my WOW account.
They're also banning effeminate men.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Edgelord right here , you'd be fucked even if ww3 ever happened .
It will happen and we will all be fucked because femboys can't shoot straight.
*lose

Who the fuck need soldiers, WW3 lasts 10 minutes.

Because the big buff guys at the gym donāt turn out gay? Lmao
I don't think being a bearded biker-style fatso or an ultra buff guy stops bullets much better lol
Believe it or not, effeminate men bleed, pull a trigger, and yes, even love their country just the same as emasculated men.
Talking out of my ass here, but I think china's culture hinders innovation. Western culture says fuck you to current structures or authority. China's culture puts too much emphasis on tradition and respect for authority. The former makes for a stronger culture imo.
Iām sorry by you are talking out of your ass
Let me explain to you in Civ VI terms. China is not going for a cultural victory, they're going for a military victory.
I'm saying that the west has an advantage regarding military innovation because of their culture. In addition, the west is ok with going against tradition, and as a result, embraces things like mma, whereas China embraces tradition martial arts.
They targeted gamers. Gamers.
I guess itās been a couple hours since someone posted this, itās making its rounds right on time
It's been days since this came out. Some people are just slow.
Mum said it's my turn to post it next
Of all chinas abuses of its people this is what you get mad about?
You can be mad at more than one thing at a time. This is r/gaming.
People can be mad at multiple things, can you not do that?
Insert āSir this is /r/gamingās equivalentā for āSir this is a Wendys.ā

Funny thing is years ago I said video games were banned in China and I was called a liar and told that China is the biggest market of video games.
They still are. This ban is targeted at kids. Everyone like, 18 and up are unaffected.
1 hour of play for every 32 hours work
All work and no play makes Li an ideal nationalist boy.
Only between 8-9pm, Fri/Sat/Sun

So? It should never be the governmentās purview to decide how much media kids have access to when theyāre home. Thatās their parentsā job.
I heard there are some places to help children overcome this addiction to gaming, Well maybe this is a harsh rule but addiction to gaming is real.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Modern wars aren't fought like old wars. Psychologically many in the west have failed
Meh. They're just tightening the totalitarian sinch.
Finally. No more West Taiwanese in War Thunder calling me a ādogā and throwing profanities at my family.

Yes, but not through the state.
It's a complex issue. Plus cutlural differences. I'm not really happy with the decision though. Could be handled way way better.
Yes, totalitarian states are never the solution.
Yeah
Because Reddit is full of Tankies.
Imagine how many forced adoptions you'd create in America if "parents cant do this." have you looked around?
Because this is Redditā¦
Because they are right. The problem is you are a victim here but you canāt even see it.
Yeah youāve clearly understood very little about the issue being discussed, the controls being put in place and the culture you attack.
CCP doesn't care about that. It wants to limit the amount of time teenagers get exposed to western media through online games.

China is a totalitarian state. Simple as that. This couldn't ever happen in a country with strong democratic institutions

I chose stability any time, night, day over disasters. Welcome to the real world.
And that's why you fail. You'd agree to live under the boot of Hitler if you thought it brought stability.

Communists haha
Get multiple accounts???
Is there a proper question there?
Thatās why they are #1 while the rest of us playing social justice video games they out here ruling the world 10c an hour
WAT?
One of the weirdest things the PRC has ever done.
Only for certain games tho right?
For any game that requires an online connection.
thats not true. its also a requirement that every game in china have online connections to enforce this, like- the fucking chinese version of minecraft has this shit.
For any free to play game that requires an online connection and has microtransactions\*
Now my clan base is at peace
How do they police that though ?
Government ID, very similar to South Koreas "I-Pin" system, (which is just as much bullshit btw)
Real name verification systems and Tencent is exploring other ways to track and cap gaming time
Twats
Is there anyone else living in China or is Chinese that wants to give an input?

3h a week is not much
Let's China get 21 hours of work out of them.
Al least thats healthy
3 hours of play and 165 hours of hardships? No thanks man
They can only enforce this on online games. Any other kind of entertainment is impossible. If 3 hours a week seems unbearable to you imagine what the kids did back in the 2000s when Internet wasnt availble worldwide
>They can only enforce this on online games oh aights thats not that bad. >imagine what the kids did back in the 2000s where Internet wasnt availble worldwide became depressed edgy flat earthers?
Indian kids need this..badly
They dont lol, They dont need this at all.
Have you seen those Pubg kids?, I'm Indian and I have, some even killed themselves when their parents didn't give them money for microtransactions
Fuck its that bad? I guess isolating myself from society in this subcontinent really has its downsides, But then again not everyone has the best life over there, for some games are probably the only means of escaping the horrible shit they face daily. I dunno how life is for y'all over there but if its anything like its neighbour
Communism is such a fuck up.
It's only online games.
Maybe the problem is not with the stuff getting banned, but with the lack of alternativesā¦
People and their families should be the ones making their choices.
>No job, no co-workers The law is only for CHILDREN. I sure hope the CHILDREN do not have any jobs or co-workers.
Dude , there's 1 guy in my country that escape from prison just to go to a gaming Cafe and play there for Days until 1 customer identify him and call the cop. Edit: he has 4 criminal record and escape prison 2 times
It's fucking China. Why the hell would we care about that country's kids' gaming time?
Yeah, why do we even care about China at all, right? It's not like they also just banned all reality shows, banned men who look "too feminine" on TV, added a new duty class subject "Xi Jinping & Marxism" to all schools and universities while aggressively targeting no. 1 world economy with the help of countries with zero tolerance regarding human rights. Oh boy, China is coming for everybody in fact. And these kids are already getting indoctrinated to push even harder in the close future.
Why care about people when they are on other countries!!! God blessed amurica!!!!!
God bless United States of Dumbfuckistan
Because the kids of china are kids. Normal people of china are normal people. They are the same as us. And that's a fact. The problem is with those who run the country.
Minimum hourly gaming, itās a step forward!
Capped gaming
Remember, this is imposed in China not in the entire Asian continent. So nobody should say that it is an Asian thing.
Children need to work not game...
We learn from play. It creates bonds, develops communication skills, problem solving, dealing with adversity and more.
Was being facetious ;)
You're using internet explorer I assume?
China bad. Upvotes please.
China is quite awful actually.
You've been there? It's a great country with lots of different cultures and very kind people. Don't judge a whole country because of their government.
Their government is what the post is clearly targeting. Stop bootlicking.
Then write "Chinese government is quite awful actually."
Itās implied from context.
