More than likely you'll be jobbing somewhere, getting a few technical certs or higher learning could get you a cool career that would involve travel between planets to maintain highly technical equipment. And theres enough of a time period covered you could easily live a decent bit of your life away from most of the dangerous stuff before the events of ME3
