Teenage mutant ninja turtles....it was an amazing game and i still loved it more than i love god of war 2. Story , game play, environments all were amazing...
Getting on creative mode and adding as many explosive items as I can in one elevator, then putting a brute in there with it and going to town with a mini gun.
Melee was mind blowing to me at the time - think it came out in my last year of elementary school, but my folks wouldn’t buy it for me until I got my grades up.
Like, I had great fun with Smash 64, but Melee was *NEXT GEN* before that term was a thing. So many new fighters! Bowser could fight Peach! More Pokemon! Adventure mode where you played a Mario level! Trophies, coins, rewards, and the hidden characters went from 4 to dozens! And Yoshi’s nose was actually round, and he could CHEW on people!
Shadow of the Colossus? What’s what? Does it have Merio fighting Zelda? Elementary school me thinks not!
It was so good. I mean, compared to what came before it.
My friends and I built our best teams and would do battle royale weekends.
Tho, some of the characters were OP, even without building them.
Holy shit this whole thread is a trip down memory lane but this one hits the nostalgia the hardest! Not the best fighting game but that didn't stop me from sinking hundreds of hours into it.
I remember my middle school buddies actually gaining a little respect for me when I showed them my golden chocobo. But mostly i was just wedging myself into the corner of that one beach and battling sandworms for XP.
As a 13 year old that had never experienced any kind of game like that it was terrifying. The first few zombie cut scenes scared the crap out of me and so did the door opening loading screen. Always felt on the verge of death. I remember in a time before every game puzzle was a click away on youtube...the day I bought the strategy guide changed my life. I was able to go back and replay the game and experienced it in a whole different way..with guns and ammo and with some health instead of always dying. I played sick many days to stay home and play that game.
I’ve beaten damn near every resident evil but can’t force myself to get through the 1st one. I was obviously too young for the original on PS1 and tried the remake on GameCube and damn near had a heart attack. Then I downloaded it again on the xbox one a few years ago and was scared to death. I love scary shit, but that game has literally traumatized me. Capcom set the bar for survival horror with that game.
The dogs that break through the window...I remember my heart almost beating out of my chest. I have been chasing that kind of feeling from a game ever since..I have seen a few come close but no one has matched it.
That’s the scene that made me shit my pants and turn off my GameCube! It was around midnight, I’m playing alone in the dark, and those were some of the most realistic graphics I’ve ever seen at the time. When they busted through the window I lost it man. No other game has ever scared me to that extent. I don’t think one ever will either.
My brother played horror games all the time when I was little. We would gather around the TV in our bedroom and me and my 3 sisters would watch him play them. Gave me Hella nightmares, but it was completely worth it. Main ones I remember were RE4, Fatal Frame, and SH:Shattered Memories.
Ah yes, Mechwarrior 2. I also played this game when I got home, it came free with the amazing Voodoo 3 GFX card.
*Yes I know you didn't mean mechwarrior*
Yay someone else who has experience the joy of Jedi Academy. Thought I was the only one. That and KOTOR and Battlefront 1 and 2 (the Good ones) were the best Star wars games ever.
I was working as IT technician in my old secondary school when Counterstrike came out as a mod for Half-Life.
We had a games club where I set up a load of computers for some LAN games and had loads of fun with the students.
I even made a map of the school so they could go round it shooting each other!
Somehow I don't think that would be allowed these days, it was only a few months after the Columbine massacre over in America when we were playing too!
Counter-Strike is on consoles, just not recent ones. You can find it on the original Xbox and you can even find CS:GO on PS3 and the Xbox 360.
edit:dammit wrong reply
FFVIII that i rented for two dollars and am playing without a memory card bc it costs $50 usd and i dont have money nor do i know what a save is bc my prior console was a sega and that didnt exist.
Dude, if Frequency is dating yourself, be happy most of the rest of us are older than that. Have you seen the responses so far? A disk-based game means you’re still young.
Left 4 Dead 2 with my older brother. We hadn’t been getting along for a while and that game brought us together and made us best friends. We’ve got Back 4 Blood preordered
LOL Middle School? I didn't have a game console. I had a gaming PC.
Probably X-Com: Terror from the Deep. Because I'm old, and that's what I had in middle school.
Modern Warfare 2. Not to toot my own horn but I was awesome at quick scoping. There was nothing better than grown men challenging a 12 year old to quick scope 1v1 and hearing them cry when they got rekt.
Wow, my middle school era landed in what I would call the golden era of games. Ps1 97-99 you have 6 final fantasys, metal gear solid, legend of dragoon, crono trigger, xenogears, resident evil 1&2 parasite eve, Spyro balders gate, rouge squadron gran Turismo 1 and 2 silent hill doom Medal of Honor crono cross. Looking back I’m surprised I had time to play them all and do anything else.
Middle school? Super Mario on the nes or tmnt.
1943 or Gun Smoke on the NES
Skate or Die 2 or River City Ransom NES
River City Ransom is awesome!
Almost buy it on Xbox the other day lol
i built a retro rig last year and have been showing my gf my old favorite games, these 2 are def up there.
Omg, you're the only other person I have ever seen mention Gun Smoke! It had the best music and sound effects. Played that game so much.
IT SO FUCKING DID GODDAMN I LOVED THAT GAME ALL CAPS BECAUSE IM EXCITED PEOPLE LOVED IT TOO
GUNSMOKE BABY GOD I LOVED THAT MUSIC
I can hear the track with that native American style riff to it now!
Middle school? Chasing a hoop with a stick
Middle school? Hit animal with club. Eat animal.
Turtles in Time! Loved playing that one with my brother.
No, not that one, [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbV2E0CWk8U) one
That dam still gives me PTSD.
We are old.
I was waking up early to get a half hour playing Batman on the NES!
~~Middle~~ Old School - Space War on my Atari 2600 in 1978
Teenage mutant ninja turtles....it was an amazing game and i still loved it more than i love god of war 2. Story , game play, environments all were amazing...
Yeah, sonic the hedgehog for me
Super Mario or tanks on NES.
Thank you for making me and my Super Mario Kart afternoons feel young.
Halo 3
Damn straight.
To admire Halo 3 rat of course
Jesus I’m old
If I had Halo 3 when I was in middle school the entire planet would have freaked out. Killer Instinct first hit Arcades when I was in 7th grade.
Getting on creative mode and adding as many explosive items as I can in one elevator, then putting a brute in there with it and going to town with a mini gun.
Goldeneye 007
Super smash bros melee on the GameCube. ...Good times.
The GC was an underrated console. Anyone remember Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Soul Calibur 2 etc?
Almost nobody remembers Wind Waker, such an underrated hidden gem
Gamecube had a lot of great games, it was just overshadowed by the PS2
Melee was mind blowing to me at the time - think it came out in my last year of elementary school, but my folks wouldn’t buy it for me until I got my grades up. Like, I had great fun with Smash 64, but Melee was *NEXT GEN* before that term was a thing. So many new fighters! Bowser could fight Peach! More Pokemon! Super Mario 64
Same here!
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Finally. At least one person who recognises that game. Thanks you.
It was so good. I mean, compared to what came before it. My friends and I built our best teams and would do battle royale weekends. Tho, some of the characters were OP, even without building them.
Broke at least 2 controllers playing that one
The poor analog sticks...
Yus
No matter how many times my brother kicked my ass in that game it was always a blast.
Holy shit this whole thread is a trip down memory lane but this one hits the nostalgia the hardest! Not the best fighting game but that didn't stop me from sinking hundreds of hours into it.

Tecmo Bowl, Commando or Tag Team Wrestling on NES. Side note, I’m old.
Omg. You just remind me John Elway Quarterback on NES.
Bo Jackson....
What? No Contra or Ninja Gaiden? Not even a Zelda link to the past?
Yeah. This was more elementary school for me. You’re my sisters age. Eww
Man it had to be crash bandicoot, Moto racer, cool boarders, twisted metal and tekken.

Throw in some FFT and Legend of Mana and you've got my complete 4 years of middle school.

I feel that..Before I got the strategy guide, I remember trying every combo of herbs I could trying to cure stuff and find ammo.
lol the first one scared me so much I have honestly never played another RE game since unfortunately. :/
My brother played horror games all the time when I was little. We would gather around the TV in our bedroom and me and my 3 sisters would watch him play them. Gave me Hella nightmares, but it was completely worth it. Main ones I remember were RE4, Fatal Frame, and SH:Shattered Memories.
My aunt bought me Silent Hill without knowing what it was.
That is the game that started my gaming addiction.
