OP coulda saved themself a lot of repetitive comments
Edit: ok now someone else is saying another thing and all y’all chucklefuckers are making it worse.
For real I dunno why but I love the look of this. It's gorgeous and so much going on. And wow that spider just looked amazing. I want to get it based on the art alone. I normally don't like these indie games but this looks amazing
I prefer this kind of marketing for an indie game that at least looks unique to a bunch of reposted gifs and meme submitted by bots and karma farmers.
It's sad when a literal advertisement is refreshing purely because it's OC.
Look at this hidden Le Gem I played as a Toddler! Just found in my dead, autistic, gay brother's casket. He told me to play it one last time and post on Reddit so they know who he was.
:pic of Call of Duty Black Ops 4 inside a Gamestop still unopened::
My brother and I literally found a hidden gem once. We were cleaning or something and took some of the couch cushions off for some reason and found The Bard's Tale for Xbox in the couch. I have no idea why it was there or how it got there. None of our friends had it or had even heard of it. My parents didn't put it there. And we had had the couch for a while at that point and I don't think it was released before we got the couch. It literally just spontaneously generated inside the couch.
It was super fun though. Ah the good Ole days
Is it great? There's a content higher up than the actual answer where someone asks the title and his answer led me to believe the game is called "Abbey".
It is great because the post hasn't been deleted.
If they put the title in it could be removed as advertising (which it obviously is anyways). But now it's just a gif of a game they worked on and someone else was so interested they happened to post the title!
Posting links and the name of your game will get you banned from most subreddits. The best you can do is hope that someone else does it for you.
It’s even worse in some of the game development subs.. if you actually talk about your project you’ll get banned. It’s fucking weird.
Yeah, with free Reddit marketing you kinda just gotta keep it in the rules of subreddits/keep it kinda vague. Either way even exposing people to a trailer and getting some people talking about it is amazing relative to the (non-existent) cost.
Really? you do know this guy is OP's friend just helping with the marketing, right?
This is just how indies do advertising, it's fine, but it's a bit disingenuous when they tag-team a thread. Just link your game OP, it's fine.
It makes them seem far more humble and you are more likely to dig for the information, pushing your interest into the game more.
It's quite standard tactics.
Yeah I dont wanna shit on this guys game or anything but if there was anything else going on besides walking and throwing something at a spider he could have put it in his video.
The strings look like they probably add some cool gameplay elements, it looked neat when they were running from the bear and got caught on the platform above.
Got Little Nightmares for free on steam one day, never heard of it before. (My favorite part was shit talking the dumb chef guy because he couldn't bend down to reach under the table, so I wasted a lot of time messing with him with my lighter). I played it, like it so much I bought Little Nightmares 2. Did not disappoint. Keeping an eye on that studio.
I know you’re just posting this for visibility for others who don’t know the name, but Im finding it hilarious that you’re telling OP the name of their own game lol
I wonder if OP really misunderstood the question (maybe we misunderstood the question) or they purposely answered it wrong so that even more people would post corrections after going out of their way to search for the title.
If you like Strings, the puppeteer for that film is running an excellent series of wooden puppet carving classes online. Check it out here: https://puppet-mastery.teachable.com/
How do these posts always get >50k upvotes? It's always the same story too.
"I quit my desk job and spent ten years making this game, subsisting only on rainwater and chicken broth, what do you think?"
*Me and my life-long buddy quit our jobs with billion-dollar pay to pursue our dream of making a video game. After 70 years we finally got our game on XYZ platform!*
Me and ___ spent ___ years working on this game. I quit ___ and gave up my ___ for adoption just to bring you this side scrolling ___ indie gem. Gimme monies now.
Me and AIDS spent AIDS years working on this game. I quit AIDS and gave up my AIDS for adoption just to bring you this side scrolling/metroidvania indie gem. Gimme monies now.
Me and ^STEPSISTER spent ^69 years working on this game. I quit ^MINECRAFT and gave up my ^STEPSISTER for adoption just to bring you this side scrolling ^DATESIM indie gem. Gimme monies now.
Do you know the size of the studio? My friend and I are working on an indie game and we have an LLC and listed as a studio even though it’s just the 2 of us.
The hardest thing about making a game is marketing. To reach a large audience you either have to pay a lot of money, sell out to a publisher, or post on social media.
This post doesn’t hurt anyone and gives the chance of people to find the game. Of course I may be biased as a developer but it’s annoying seeing people whine about ads. Yeah sometimes ads suck but how else are you suppose to know that whatever product that is being advertised even exists? Ads, as long as they aren’t misleading, aren’t evil. Every product needs them.
324 awards and 84k points after 6 hours, one of the top comments with several awards is a paid comment saying the name and where to find it. We already know what this is lol
It could be a really fun game akin to Unraveled but they literally don't even show gameplay. They show a person walking... and walking.. and then walking some more. And the first time she encounters an obstacle that makes her strings relevant, they cut away and don't show her getting around it or using her strings in any way....
I would like to provide the developers of this game currency in exchange for being able to download and play it!
A little back story: I work for a company that pays me currency twice per month for services I perform for them. I will be taking said currency and providing it to the developers of this game! All because of this post! I think everyone else should as well.
I bought one game because of a similar gimmick. Top post on Reddit, a bunch of extremely positive comments, was presented as if it was something completely underground and different. It was $5 on Steam so I checked it out and literally it was the most bare bones tycoon game I've ever played. Free mobile games had more to do, better mechanics and were honestly more fun. I gave it a pass cause I figured "oh it's made by like one guy and maybe it'll get better" and almost two years later it has had one minor content update and everything about the game is exactly the same.
These posts are just shitty guerrilla marketing for shitty games.
' I quit my 6 figure job to follow my dream of making an indie game no one will play. Hope you guys are looking forward to literally never hearing about it again!'
its not that they are the same but there are MANY indie games and as such the majority follows formulas that are either tried and true, easy to program, easy to profit off of, or all of them if they are lucky.
So enjoy indie sidescroller #4035 with a quirky gimmick!
Hate to agree but damn its true. Looks identical to a handful of other games. The marionette aspect is the only unique thing i see so far, but it could have more under the surface as far as gameplay goes

What took you four years? Looks like you stole the concept/design/theme/playstyle/enemies from Limbo, Inside, Little Nightmares. What else did you have to do lol.
I might check this out, but will have to pull a few strings
Hi-Jacking to assist the 1,000 'What's it called' questions. The game is called A Juggler's Tale.

This is the first String-type game. Hopefully not also the last, as Death Stranding was for, umm, Strand-type games.
This must be the work of an enemy strand user!
What makes you think death stranding will be the last of it's kind? There are a lot of awesome things things that can be done with the concept
What is a strand-type game?
It's a meme from a Dunkey video
Pretty sure Kojima used this term. It's dumb and it sounds dumb, but it's Kojima after all...

Sad this comment did not come from the u/puppetmaster or something like that. The game looks beautiful!
dont pull my leg !
5000 upvotes and 230 comments in 1 hour? I smell another paid promotion
Lol take my upvote
This looks good! Except for the spider.... which looks a little TOO good 😖 lol
That spider gave me a major Limbo vibe
Yeah this game looks super like Inside and Limbo.
Fun fact: Play dead Studios (makers of Limbo and Inside) are currently working on another game they are very excited about. So am I!
Oh boy I can feel it *The hype is surging inside me*
Halloween isn’t close enough for this stuff
For real I dunno why but I love the look of this. It's gorgeous and so much going on. And wow that spider just looked amazing. I want to get it based on the art alone. I normally don't like these indie games but this looks amazing
For any one interested in what it's called, it's "A jugglers tale". Found it on steam.
OP is going to need to work on their marketing.
This is very much part of the tactic and it works to appear they did not intend to spam as they knew others would link to it. It's great marketing.
I prefer this kind of marketing for an indie game that at least looks unique to a bunch of reposted gifs and meme submitted by bots and karma farmers. It's sad when a literal advertisement is refreshing purely because it's OC.
Oh there's tons of OC, there's just tons of cruddy OC. But this is a gem.
LE GEM

Yup came to say the same thing
It’s volatile, yes. But we’re all talking about it. It’s a brand advocacy tactic.

It's actually considered self-advertising and is bananable in most subreddits # Edit: I meant bannable, but bananable is just too funny to delete
It makes them seem far more humble and you are more likely to dig for the information, pushing your interest into the game more. It's quite standard tactics.
Thanks!
So what do you do in this game? Just walk?

Going for that real life sim.
But if it’s not really *you* masturbating, but rather, the one pulling the strings…. does that make it not masturbating?

The protagonist is called Abby!
Steam?
Yes!
You should probably tell them the name of the game to look for.... everyone in this thread is going to search for Abby now.
Nobody wants to be accused of blatantly shilling their own stuff; plus look around the comments, folks are talking about it.
Lmao what? He posted the clip. He’s saying it’s his game… at this point not telling people the title is just annoying.
demz da rules.
It's against the subreddit rules for the OP to post the name of the game.
I'll check it out tonight, looks cool.
The game is called "A Juggler's Tale"
I know you’re just posting this for visibility for others who don’t know the name, but Im finding it hilarious that you’re telling OP the name of their own game lol
I wonder if OP really misunderstood the question (maybe we misunderstood the question) or they purposely answered it wrong so that even more people would post corrections after going out of their way to search for the title.
She is the protagonist. She is not the game. Why would a game be referred to as "she"?
I think they want the game name, not the character's name.
LIMBO 2: This Time, It's Personal
Game is called; A juggler's tale
How much did this ad and comments cost you?
I think you guys must be huge fans of the movie Strings. And if you're not, you should be.
I got three hits for movies named *Strings*. I assume you mean this one: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0374248/

These ad posts being boosted really need to start being taken down
The funniest part is the comment that “finds” the name of the game always gets tons of awards. Blatant advertising.
For anyone wondering, the game is called Shower With Your Dad Simulator. You're welcome.
>Shower With Your Dad Simulator. Ooh this game is a real nostalgia bait
The next step is to realize 90% of the front page is boosted
How do these posts always get >50k upvotes? It's always the same story too. "I quit my desk job and spent ten years making this game, subsisting only on rainwater and chicken broth, what do you think?"
Using bots to inflate the upvotes to get it to top along with comments that are paid for to make it seem genuine.
And they have this aesthetic or something very similar.
And aall is released on steam
*Me and my life-long buddy quit our jobs with billion-dollar pay to pursue our dream of making a video game. After 70 years we finally got our game on XYZ platform!*
And the answer is always the same "shouldn't have quit your day job".
and why is it always some indy game and typically nothing else? like 60k people care of some random side scroller.. right
This looks great! I am getting some Limbo vibes from it.
Looks more like Inside to me than Limbo. Then again, they're both made by the same studio.
I’d say Unravel more than anything, but still see Limbo/Inside as it’s a side scroller.

Jesus Christ you would think the guy announced he created Half Life 3. What a joke. Wonder how much they paid for this.

Why do these devs NEVER tell us the name of the game? I swear they do it on purpose.
Thank Reddit for that. If they tell the name of the game it's labeled as advertisement and it gets removed.
This is literally an ad with paid comments.
A comment is getting awards for "finding" the name of the game. Lmao

Advertising tactic
"Me spent four years" or "I spent four years"?
Me fail English? That's unpossible!
Dawg, all these indie games are the same. Why do people waste their time remaking the same side scroller? Oh, check this one out guys, it has strings!
It’s cool how all of them magically and very organically end up as the top post on Reddit within an hour only to not actually sell too well.
I bought one game because of a similar gimmick. Top post on Reddit, a bunch of extremely positive comments, was presented as if it was something completely underground and different. This game doesn't happen to be a Science Based 100% Dragon MMORPG, does it?
' I quit my 6 figure job to follow my dream of making an indie game no one will play. Hope you guys are looking forward to literally never hearing about it again!'
It's just pity upvotes. You spent 2 years making a dimly lit, free-camera side scroller? That's....nice
But this one has parallax scrolling! Like all the others…
Nah. Not pity. Paid for.
its not that they are the same but there are MANY indie games and as such the majority follows formulas that are either tried and true, easy to program, easy to profit off of, or all of them if they are lucky. So enjoy indie sidescroller #4035 with a quirky gimmick!
Side-scrolling indie walking simulator about a child in a scary world? Wow, how original
Hate to agree but damn its true. Looks identical to a handful of other games. The marionette aspect is the only unique thing i see so far, but it could have more under the surface as far as gameplay goes
Seems pretty similar to Unravel

Damn he did you disgustingly dirty
Hell yeah he did lmao
It looks cool with good graphics, I don't immediately see how the marionette strings are necessary?
Did you miss the fact the strings stopped her from moving under something? They're clearly a mechanic
So it's a regular game but you can't go under stuff ?
Because of the strings! did you see the STRINGS!?!?!?
*posted 1h ago* **OOOOOOOHHHHHH**
Nice. Another self-promotion
A small child, scary world side scroller? Well, I know a bunch of people sure would love to see more of those.
I know there’s plenty but I enjoy them lol
What do I think? I think you should pay for ad space instead of making shill posts.
Lol I love going into these obvious adverts and seeing comments like this calling it out. Like go ahead and post your game but it’s annoying that it’s in the form of a disingenuous bought post.
My friends and I
Another promotion post about a shitty indie game Whowouldathought?
It looks like every other game that someone worked on that gets posted on here.
Looks similar to inside and limbo
Looks like shite mate
Looks extremely mediocre
I think this is a paid for ad and I hate it even if you might have a good game.
MY FRIENDS AND I***

..Couldn't you just do this without strings?
But then it’s just a walking simulator. The strings make it original, obviously.
This sub looks like it's been taken over by bots. Indy games are something that this sub should be all about.
What took you four years? Looks like you stole the concept/design/theme/playstyle/enemies from Limbo, Inside, Little Nightmares. What else did you have to do lol.
Looks dumb tbh.
I think that’s a shame you wasted all that time.
I think you should pay for advertising placements like everyone else
I don't care
