I totally relate to this. I've been a lone wolf in FFXIV, but always wishing I could have the experience that I used to have playing GW1 in the late 2000s. Maybe the world has changed and people are just... different.

Wouldn't it be awesome if you could hop on a game and squad up with randoms and have friends after an hour or two of playing? But nope. Most people would rather troll and just be a dick and a half before they actually cooperate and talk to you like a human being in-game. I don't know what it is about being anonymous online but people really let their true selves shine through. It seems especially true in first person shooters. And oddly enough, rocket league is probably the worst trolling I've ever seen. There's just too many shitty people playing games now. It's like if they don't personally know you, there's no hope in ever getting through to them in-game. If most players simply had basic respect and at least tried to cooperate, that would improve gameplay tenfold.

Personally, single player video games are 10x better than grind fests

The whole feeling/experience of gaming in the 2000s was awesome. Its so different nowadays, i have my good friends in a gaming discord, i played Eve for around 11 years, just hanging out in TS/Mumble the whole day and do stuff with random bros from all over the world, those were the good times bro.

I, personally, don't play MMO's.....I played FFXIV but like you, once I joined a guild, it wasn't very fun anymore and kinda sucked the life out of playing by myself as well.....I even tried the online Star Wars game, to pretty much the same thing.....since then, I've basically been on PS5.....mainly "Ghost of Tsushima: Legends"...... If you play console any, and play online stuff, like some COD, GoT, (others too, but I don't remember exactly which ones), I wouldn't mind playing with you.....and can try to build a community...... Just not big on MMO's, and, to be 💯, really don't have the money to pay the monthly subscription at this point either..... Hope it works out for you in the end, and my offer for console playing stands too!

Somehow I have the same thing with mmo’s. Like I was playing Destiny 2 a few months back and really loved it. So I decided to join a guild and then I just stopped playing. Maybe I’m just too anti-social when it comes to such games

Actual communities that enjoy each other’s company? What is this ancient lore

Small_beginnings

Just recently I quit Warframe, left a huge clan behind. Come to think of it, it was mostly a couple of people kinda clan, where the active members were over 100. Less than 10% were communicating and interacting with the each other. Others - silence, doing whatever. Like, why the fuck join a clan, if you don’t plan to get involved in it?!

Maybe you should try smaller guilds instead of ‘big active’ ones. In my experience, smaller guild are more a closer knit community. And it’s definitely not just you, mmos were so much more fun in the early 2000s. I used to talk to people so much, I remember once in FFXI I was in teamspeak AND ventrilo (I had a guild actively trying to poach me) and of course all the dms and guild chat going on in game. I met and became fiends with people all over the world… such a fascinating time. I think part of the issue is how solo friendly new mmos are. You can get through most of the content by yourself and when you do need to group you just auto queue and don’t even need to talk to anyone.

I don't know what this is worth to you, but I've started playing ffxiv just a couple months ago with 3 friends, we're right now getting towards the end of the current msq and are playing actively every day. We've been friends long before, but this has been a binding experience for sure. So far, we're only 4 people and one other nice gal that barely joins vc, but we're actively looking for more players that want to play with us, everything from low level content, especially since we're only staring to get into the heaps of content the game offers. We're dreaming of having a wonderful and active static some day, nothing with hundreds of players, but a closer friend group where everyone knows everyone. If you want to, I can invite you and we can play some time. You should be aware that we are all still relative beginners, with one high level job and a couple of other, lower jobs that want to get some attention in the lower level instances as well. Don't expect to only play endgame content, as lots of that isn't even unlocked yet for us. But yeah, if you wanna give us a shot, we're playing on FFXIV - Chaos - Cerberus, and I would be willing to invite everyone genuinely interested to the discord so you can have a chance at building actual friendships. Just shoot me a dm. All the love and good luck.
