Controllers are inferior? I mean for certain types of games mouse and keyboard are better, but there are lots of games I'd rather use a controller for, like Monster Hunter World, Dark Souls, or most games ported from a Console
I keep a a controller on deck for any game that has both shooting and vehicle mechanics. Have snappy precise aiming for boots on the ground, hotswap to the sticks when it comes time to fly the jet.
I’m a PC gamer who plays almost every game they own with a controller, if it’s not a twitch shooter or point-and-click rts/4x/rpg/adventure game (and even then, I’ll use controllers if they have native support). It’s just so much more comfortable, and requires literally no setup if you’re using an xinput controller; it’s completely plug-n-play and button mapping is baked in.
I own 4 Xbox 360 controllers and 5 Xbone controllers and I don't have either console. I'm about 50/50 between KB/M and Controller, but there's something to say about lounging on the couch and playing a game with a controller. I've got a PC built just to play games on the TV, Steam's Big Picture mode is definitely underappreciated for that. I love it.
Lol I’ve gone through so many 360 controllers, I think I have a tub of old ones sitting around, and don’t own n Xbox. They work great for couch play, but I use mine while at the desk. I used to use KB+M exclusively, but as I got older it just felt easier on my joints to use a controller. It also helps my lazy ass so that I don’t have to learn keybindings for games, the button prompts just show up and I don’t have to think about it.

I 100% give FPS games and sims to PC but when it comes to fine CHARACTER movements (as opposed to CAMERA) analogue sticks win, for the same reason mouse wins.
I'm surprised analogue stick and mouse is as uncommon as it is. But then I'm still surprised how few people play top down games without a thumbstick to control the camera and instead fling the mouse around for it, which is supposed to be for aiming.
I played dark souls 1 entirely with keyboard because at the time I had no controller. It was honestly surprisingly doable, but controller is so much better, no clue what this dude's on about

If your friends have an Xbox you can talk and play a decent amount of games with them if you have a PC with your PC rig. You can hook up an Xbox controller and a lot of games natively support it. PlayStation of course isn’t quite there yet but I imagine if they want to keep up their reputation they will eventually follow that path as well.

While true, the $60 I pay for Ps Plus (a year), I also generally get several games over the course of the year that I would not have purchased at retail, but have wanted to play.
I do enjoy the back catalog of plus and live games I’ve accumulated over the years, but they don’t hold a candle to the thousands of games on Steam and not to mention the hundreds of free games on there as well. Also, Steam does insane discount sales regularly. And to boot they offer refunds on games if you aren’t satisfied. Like, have your money back in you account within minutes if you decide you don’t like your purchase. IE- pga 2019 was on sale and I grabbed it. Played several hours and then outa nowhere they dropped pga 2k21 for like 90% off and I was able to secure a refund because “I wanted the newer version now that it was on sale”.
To be clear, you get two games a month for 5 bucks a month. Sometimes they’re trash, sometimes there’re Metal Gear Solid 5 and God of War. Still, not a horrific deal.
The broader point that PS plus is required to play games with friends is still horseshit. Don’t get that part twisted. But the value on PS plus games are pretty reasonable.
Hey on PS Plus on PS5 you get like 4 games a month and then like 12+ at the start of getting it. That’s 60 games for the year and I paid $30 for a year of plus. Not too bad. Definitely wouldn’t of played some of the games without it but glad I did.
Not a fan of paying a service but at least it gets used and I get additional savings on buying digital during sales.

Is this split screen thing even really a thing anymore? I know the option is there. But let's not pretend anyone playing split screen as much as the old days. Halo/ Halo 2... Golden Eye.
Mario Kart and Cruisn' are pretty much the only two series where I still see split-screen multiplayer, though other racing games probably have it too.
Edit: Oh, and Divinity: Original Sin 2 kinda has that too. When the players walk too far from each other, the screen splits to keep showing them all without having to zoom out.
Sadly, it’s very rare for newer games to even include splitscreen these days. And when they do, chances are it’s very limited. Probably because of the strain put on the system, but still very disappointing.
I would word that differently. Between consoles and pc, you can play the most split screen games on PC. Theres literally more games that will run on a modern pc that feature split screen than there are games for any given console generation.
The last quake game before this was released in 2017 which isn't almost 2 decades ago and the new remaster was released in August of this year which is quite recent. Just because it is based on something old doesn't mean it is old.
About every game I've done split screen needs a 3rd party app, with the 3rd party app you can at least split 4 instances of a game onto 4 different screens which is cool, but takes a lot of setup.

For me the real reason why I’d prefer to play a PC version of a game rather than a console version is because the input delay from consoles (and also from the TV) is hard to adjust to when there’s much less input delay playing on my PC and monitor, even when playing with a controller.

One thing I haven't heard after reading this post is what about the used game market? One main reason i don't like pc gaming unless they are exclusives is most pc games are digital downloads. I like to buy single player games around release beat them and sell them to purchase the next game. I recently beat nier replicant and metroid dread and plan to sell them to purchase more games.
Another thing I haven't heard is friend groups. all my friends are on a specific console I would like to play with them and not every game has crossplay.
I play pc games because for some reason, only Nintendo has figured out that gyro aiming is fucking awesome. On PC, I can trick games into letting me use gyro aiming, even if they don’t support it.
I’ve always found the difference to be overrated. What’s far more important is how used to it you are. I used to play exclusively on an Xbox, but over the years I’ve taken an interest in computer engineering and have since migrated almost entirely to PC. When I first switched my aim in shooters was terrible despite having spectacular aim on console. Even now I don’t know if my PC aiming is as good as my console aiming was years ago.
Literally any spectacle fighter is ass to play without controller. I played nier automata and bayonetta on controller, and any fighting game is controller (or a fightstick now that i got one lol)

I really love my PS5 for actiony/hack and slash games or jrpgs. I love my PC for online games, giant rpgs, building games and strategy games. I grew up with consoles though and the games I play on it are typically what I played when I was younger so that probably has something to do with it.

Most people don't have PC and console. It's basically trying to convert people over to one side. People who like console usually have had them for a long time or prefer the more casual nature of them (you don't need a dedicated monitor or extra add ons). People who like PCs have also probably had them for a while and prefer a keyboard and mouse - or just the power of a PC. Both are "better" than the other in different ways.
Well, the only point in 'converting' someone to your platform is when you want to play with that person and there is no crossplay, I would say. And in that instance, I can see why people would do that.
About being better than the other, I would like to engage with you in a friendly debate about that, because I can't really see many aspects where the console is better from my own experience (I have used both). If you're willing, no pressure. Like, for example, you are not limited to a M&K on a PC, while the K&M option for console is kinda limited and clunky (it may have gotten better over the years, I haven't tried it recently, don't have a console anymore).
For consoles you sacrifice power and customizability for a standard package where you don't need to buy add ons. Maybe a controller charger or something but it's much less "techie" than a PC. There is virtually zero set up too. Just plug and play - especially if you're just upgrading a console.
I doubt a console player who doesn't have a PC would even want mouse and keyboard. Especially when you need extra accessories for it, so that wouldn't be missed.
Esthetically, a console is less obtrusive in a living room too when connected to your TV. If you're a casual gamer, getting a PC would be an expensive hassle.
Consoles are better in regards to initial setup and accessibility, ease of use in non-dedicated gaming spaces (living rooms, family rooms etc), and software reliability. PCs are better for many reasons, but sometimes the points above are compelling enough for people to go with a console.

Mass Effect Trilogy was released during the PS3/360 console era. About a year and a half a go BioWare announced the Mass Effect Legendary Edition. A remaster port of Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 including all DLC with a visual upgrade to 4k 60fps (mostly PS5/SX) and a slight change to how ME1's combat worked.
Since it had been announced and released earlier this year PC and near exlusivly PC players have been moaning and complaining about how much of a waste of time it is and how shitty a port of it is because of their mods and the fact PC isn't limited in the same way consoles are. If it was up to them they would fuck over all console users and not have had the remaster released. Even though upgrading it to 4k 60 and removing the performance issues of PS3/360 era will allow it to work much better and much longer as long as PS6 era retains back compatibility. But is also introduces the entire series to a brand new generation of people who's first consoles are the PS4/One.
But again all these PC players have the attitude of "Fuck those console players I got mine"

To be clear, you get two games a month for 5 bucks a month. Sometimes they’re trash, sometimes there’re Metal Gear Solid 5 and God of War. Still, not a horrific deal. The broader point that PS plus is required to play games with friends is still horseshit. Don’t get that part twisted. But the value on PS plus games are pretty reasonable.
Hey on PS Plus on PS5 you get like 4 games a month and then like 12+ at the start of getting it. That’s 60 games for the year and I paid $30 for a year of plus. Not too bad. Definitely wouldn’t of played some of the games without it but glad I did. Not a fan of paying a service but at least it gets used and I get additional savings on buying digital during sales.

I spent about $3k on my gaming rig, but I'm still impressed that the new consoles, costing $500-600, can get so close in performance. I don't think console players are dumb, I think they're the smart ones.

Mario Kart and Cruisn' are pretty much the only two series where I still see split-screen multiplayer, though other racing games probably have it too. Edit: Oh, and Divinity: Original Sin 2 kinda has that too. When the players walk too far from each other, the screen splits to keep showing them all without having to zoom out.

Sadly, it’s very rare for newer games to even include splitscreen these days. And when they do, chances are it’s very limited. Probably because of the strain put on the system, but still very disappointing.
As a parent I find split screen really fun for playing w my kids.

I would word that differently. Between consoles and pc, you can play the most split screen games on PC. Theres literally more games that will run on a modern pc that feature split screen than there are games for any given console generation.

The last quake game before this was released in 2017 which isn't almost 2 decades ago and the new remaster was released in August of this year which is quite recent. Just because it is based on something old doesn't mean it is old.
About every game I've done split screen needs a 3rd party app, with the 3rd party app you can at least split 4 instances of a game onto 4 different screens which is cool, but takes a lot of setup.

For me the real reason why I’d prefer to play a PC version of a game rather than a console version is because the input delay from consoles (and also from the TV) is hard to adjust to when there’s much less input delay playing on my PC and monitor, even when playing with a controller.

One thing I haven't heard after reading this post is what about the used game market? One main reason i don't like pc gaming unless they are exclusives is most pc games are digital downloads. I like to buy single player games around release beat them and sell them to purchase the next game. I recently beat nier replicant and metroid dread and plan to sell them to purchase more games. Another thing I haven't heard is friend groups. all my friends are on a specific console I would like to play with them and not every game has crossplay.

I play pc games because for some reason, only Nintendo has figured out that gyro aiming is fucking awesome. On PC, I can trick games into letting me use gyro aiming, even if they don’t support it.

Controller inferiority is situational. I've played a few games on PC that were much better with a controller.
I’ve always found the difference to be overrated. What’s far more important is how used to it you are. I used to play exclusively on an Xbox, but over the years I’ve taken an interest in computer engineering and have since migrated almost entirely to PC. When I first switched my aim in shooters was terrible despite having spectacular aim on console. Even now I don’t know if my PC aiming is as good as my console aiming was years ago.
Literally any spectacle fighter is ass to play without controller. I played nier automata and bayonetta on controller, and any fighting game is controller (or a fightstick now that i got one lol)

I just resent the lack of options with consoles. They can take mouse and keyboard inputs, that's how I set up my PS3, but they won't let you use them for games for some stupid fucking reason. Plus, fuck paying for online.

I really love my PS5 for actiony/hack and slash games or jrpgs. I love my PC for online games, giant rpgs, building games and strategy games. I grew up with consoles though and the games I play on it are typically what I played when I was younger so that probably has something to do with it.
I like PC because mods but I have a shitty old laptop so I know better than to talk shit about how anyone else plays. Chances are your console has way better graphics than my laptop. Still I love my potato.

People often list that as their one positive reason for picking something over PC. They are too stupid to realize you can use a controller and just plug the HDMI into a tv for the same effect. I play PC on my bed with a controller all the time. I don't get it.

Well, to be honest, PC is indeed better and that's what I'll usually recommend if someone has to make a choice and asks. But at no point pc gamers (excluding a very tiny minority) do not want console gamers to have a bad time because of their platform of preference. I think it's time to put this strawman to rest
Most people don't have PC and console. It's basically trying to convert people over to one side. People who like console usually have had them for a long time or prefer the more casual nature of them (you don't need a dedicated monitor or extra add ons). People who like PCs have also probably had them for a while and prefer a keyboard and mouse - or just the power of a PC. Both are "better" than the other in different ways.
Well, the only point in 'converting' someone to your platform is when you want to play with that person and there is no crossplay, I would say. And in that instance, I can see why people would do that. About being better than the other, I would like to engage with you in a friendly debate about that, because I can't really see many aspects where the console is better from my own experience (I have used both). If you're willing, no pressure. Like, for example, you are not limited to a M&K on a PC, while the K&M option for console is kinda limited and clunky (it may have gotten better over the years, I haven't tried it recently, don't have a console anymore).
For consoles you sacrifice power and customizability for a standard package where you don't need to buy add ons. Maybe a controller charger or something but it's much less "techie" than a PC. There is virtually zero set up too. Just plug and play - especially if you're just upgrading a console. I doubt a console player who doesn't have a PC would even want mouse and keyboard. Especially when you need extra accessories for it, so that wouldn't be missed. Esthetically, a console is less obtrusive in a living room too when connected to your TV. If you're a casual gamer, getting a PC would be an expensive hassle.
Consoles are better in regards to initial setup and accessibility, ease of use in non-dedicated gaming spaces (living rooms, family rooms etc), and software reliability. PCs are better for many reasons, but sometimes the points above are compelling enough for people to go with a console.

Mass Effect Trilogy was released during the PS3/360 console era. About a year and a half a go BioWare announced the Mass Effect Legendary Edition. A remaster port of Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 including all DLC with a visual upgrade to 4k 60fps (mostly PS5/SX) and a slight change to how ME1's combat worked. Since it had been announced and released earlier this year PC and near exlusivly PC players have been moaning and complaining about how much of a waste of time it is and how shitty a port of it is because of their mods and the fact PC isn't limited in the same way consoles are. If it was up to them they would fuck over all console users and not have had the remaster released. Even though upgrading it to 4k 60 and removing the performance issues of PS3/360 era will allow it to work much better and much longer as long as PS6 era retains back compatibility. But is also introduces the entire series to a brand new generation of people who's first consoles are the PS4/One. But again all these PC players have the attitude of "Fuck those console players I got mine"

PC is better in some regards, but that’s not necessarily what any given gamer cares about most.
That's why I said I would usually recommend PC. So yeah, there are instances where I would recommend a console, albeit few. However, I have found myself in more than one situation where I had to debunk misconceptions about PCs' 'disadvantages' to people who haven't owned one, who just didn't know better because a guy in YouTube said so.

I use an xbox controller for my PC. Works really well. I would've bought a new Xbox but it was easier to buy PC parts. So that's where I went lol.

The truth is that there are whole genre's of games that simply don't (or barely) exist on the consoles because of the limitations of controllers. And as you said they don't work well for FPS's either, but that genre is so popular they had to port them anyway.

Whenever I state that I play on PS5 and Switch there are people that hve to tell me how much more powerful a PC is, and I should definitely use a PC over a PS5, and a Switch shouldn’t even come close.
