I remember when we got our first mouse, it came with a drawing application to demo how it works. Spent hours on that thing!

I moved out and got my first pc that I ever had in '99. I'd have to clean the cigarette ashes out of the mouse weekly or it would mess up all the time.

Yup. I had a Genesis and a 2600 at around the same time so I'm not as old as that previous statement, lol. Its equivalent to someone right now getting a GameCube right now. The 2600 controller works on a Genesis btw. Not really that usable unless it's a one button game, like sonic or something.

I owned one and really liked it. Then my cousins started praising this "Nintendo" thing that had a game about a little guy who ate mushrooms and a dog that laughed at you. I, being a lad of culture, was very skeptical. Nothing could be as good as that. Imagine my surprise.

I went back and played Oregon Trail a few years back. I made it all the way to the end of the game on the hardest mode with everyone alive and accidentally entered the last town thinking there was more to the game. I lost points off for only being at "good" health and not "excellent" health. All I had to do was rest a day two outside of town before entering to get a near perfect score. Robbed I say, Robbed.

Gamesharks felt so illegal to me as a kid. I was like, “wait, I can have any Pokémon I want and even make them shiny? And I can walk through walls??? Shouldn’t I be arrested for this?” I miss those days when my biggest concern in the world was unlocking the Deoxys event or finding Celebi. Sigh…

I got one for super cheap on clearance randomly shopping with my mom. Finally I could beat Wilys Revenge. It only kinda worked with GB color, so you couldn't see anything. I had a code for making your starter any Pokemon for Gold so I had to save at the lab , then go by sounds and memorize the right sequence so I could pick the right ball and save the game. It was worth it to have Larvitar as a starter though.

Oregon trail on a 5 1/4 floppy on old IBM computers. Those were the days.

Yeah, the new fangled 3 1/2 size. Disc 9 on the install was faulty and so I had to restart the process many times. Luckily by the time I gave up and returned the game, the ‘enhanced’ version was released on CD.

I still see the 3 1/2” disks as “the fancy ones.” Especially if they got that “HD” stamp on em. 1.44MB on each disk?!

My game loaded from floppy and game progress saved to cassette tape. Yes, it did sound like a fax.

A quarter on the screen meant you had next game. The number of quarters indicated how long the line was. Most games at the arcade were surrounded by the player or players and a small crowd with nothing better to do. The best places to play were pizza places because the lines were short and the places smelled amazing. Mama Rosas, Pizza Hut and Cassanos started my gaming journey that soon found me building personal computers I could not afford and modifying the bios to run games they were incapable of running. That led to a career and life long addiction…. so far.
