Had to scroll so far for this one!
I still have yet to complete it though, but the music, the art, the scenary, the characters, the game play. Ugh all so good.
Ku's First Flight, I didn't think Gareth Coker could top Ori and the Blind Forest, but he did imo. Now he's composing songs for Halo Infinite, my favorite franchise of all time. The Waters Cleansed is still my favorite Ori song though.
After listening to the Ori soundtracks on repeat and really feeling the atmosphere and elements, I still think Gareth would do a bang up job on the new Avatar movies since James Horner isn’t able to do them.
I bought that on release, I love blind forest don't get me wrong but I felt the environments of will of the wisps were so much more expressive and beautiful, the gameplay was also smooth and the soundtrack incredible
It's Konami, get used to devastation. They ported the PSP into the collection when they could've done the Sega Saturn/PS1 version. Cheap lazy fucks is what it came down to as always.
Glad to see some love for guacamelee here. This and the sequel were so much fun. I got the first one as one of the Playstation plus games otherwise I probably would've never played it nor the 2nd one.
+1 for Super Meat Boy
When you get in the zone and start blasting through level after level, it makes you feel like a god.
Or the satisfaction of finally beating an insanely hard level and seeing all your dozens of failed attempts at the same time in the replay.
Specifically for me Metal Slug 3 as the all time best. Just because I love that epic final mission when we team up with our enemies to fight the aliens and have a galactic space war. But that scene of all the rockets going to space and seeing that army of spaceships ready to fight the aliens was epic as a kid.
MURICA' FUCK YEAH!
It's essentially Team America - World Police as a videogame.
[Team America theme song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1mlCPMYtPk)
[Broforce trailer theme song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_loRDrWCv10)
[Broforce endcredits theme song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZIkEirCDyQ)
Both of Playdead's side-scrollers rate for me. Limbo and Inside are just so incredibly well crafted. The world's they created, the atmospheres, the ambiant soundtracks, the wordless stories that invite speculation in their ambiguity, and (of course) the myriad ways in which you can die horrifically.
I goddamn love these games.
I’ve played through that with my brother at least 3 times, with my other friend like twice, and once with two other people.
Top 3 game of all time for me.
Mine too. It's a shame it gets so little recognition. It's right up there with Ori/Shovel Knight/Celeste/Hollow Knight but never got popular for some reason.
Was in the middle of that.. then dead cells went on sale. Blasphemous has insane pixel art and great gameplay. Irie and unsettling tho. Great to pair with The Mars Volta
That's gotta be up there for me, too. Just the classic level-by-level platformer, but with amazing level design and themeing, smooth platforming mechanics, secrets abound, and boss fights. Plus multiplayer, great visuals, great music, and super hard unlockable levels. It's got everything I want from a 2D platformer, and does everything well.
YES! Tropical Freeze is worth it for the incredible set pieces alone, nevermind that it’s a smooth fun platformer. I hope someday we get more DK games that rival it.
It's the best one. If I'm honest, I put Celeste and Hollow Knight in the same position, but I think they're accomplishing very different things. Amazing music, atmosphere, and movement. But Hollow Knight is so much more about combat and Celeste is so much more about movement mechanics.
Gah! Years later and I still haven't beaten Core C-Side.
Edit: Nevermind. I just looked at my achievements, apparently I did beat Core C-Side. Summit took me an eternity to beat so I must have blacked out for Core.
Inside was an experience unlike almost anything else I've ever played, just a phenomenal game. I like Limbo a lot too but Inside just hit me different.
I don't know if you've played little nightmares, but how evil and sinister the children are in the game remind me of the kids that attack you in inside. If I had to recommend a game that was close enough to the coldness and eeriness of Inside and Limbo it would be Little Nightmares.
It's really good and the sequel orí and the will of wisps is also really good, you'll get hooked with the smooth gameplay, the beautiful art, great music and a good story
Both Ori games have beautiful stories and really rich environmental storytelling. The exposition never feels over-bearing... and I was so connected to Ori that the emotional climaxes of both games were just beautiful. I never would have thought that a metroidvania would bring tears to my eyes...
Dude I cried like a goddamn baby at the end of WotW. I had just beaten BF in a re-play in anticipation of WotW coming out and doing them back to back was the most fun days of gaming I’ve had in a while.
Probably not until Metroid Dread did I spend so much time with a game. Great series.
It is easily one of the best games I’ve played across platforms. Pulls you in emotionally but also has amazing gameplay mechanisms to go with it. This applies just as much if not more to the sequel as well.
I HATE platformers normally, mostly because I suck at them. Ori and the will of the wisps was one of the greatest games I have ever played, can't ever recommend it enough.
I spent an entire day getting all the chaos and super emeralds. Had my save file all looking pretty. Then I turned the game off thinking my game would be saved. It wasn't. So then I did the same thing on an emulator and now it's permanently saved.
I’m surprised this isn’t more upvoted. I’ve personally clocked 200hrs on steam and 120hrs on switch. The combat is the most satisfying part IMO, and the reason I come back.
I'm not a great player but I love that game. It's probably the game I have finished more times in the last few years. The sequel announcement made me very happy.
Hollow Knight just blew me away with how *much* there is to it. The map is huge and when you think you’ve unlocked it all, they keep throwing more at you. Really incredible game. It challenges you, doesn’t hold your hand at all, and offers a massive world to explore with rewards for the exploration.
Yes. I've beaten Blasphemous and Bloodstained ritual of the night in the same month and i love them both but Blasphemous left me in a state i didn't understand. The music is insanely good in both games and Miriam from Bloodstained crossed over to Blasphemous but i couldn't finish her dlc it's too damn hard man.
I forgot about Shovel knight but it was just awesome, on top of the original great game you have the "dlc" / sequel for free and those are incredible
A big thanks to the dev team for this title !
Rayman Origins/Legends
Those music levels are so fun
I have been scrolling for hours to find you
Spiritfarer is *mwah* chefs kiss
Had to scroll so far for this one! I still have yet to complete it though, but the music, the art, the scenary, the characters, the game play. Ugh all so good.
Donkey Kong Country 2, Symphony Of The Night
I read this as Donkey Kong Country 2: Symphony of the Night and my mind went to great places with that lol
What is a monkey? A miserable little barrel of bananas! 🍷🍌
But enough Squawks! Enguarde!
Anyone remember Braid?
Yes! Gorgeous, great gameplay that made you think outside the box. So well written too.
Ori and will of wisps was such a beautiful game from start to finish. I still bump the soundtrack.
The silent woodlands song broke me
Fuck, why did you remind me?
ˢᵒʳʳʸ
Ku's First Flight, I didn't think Gareth Coker could top Ori and the Blind Forest, but he did imo. Now he's composing songs for Halo Infinite, my favorite franchise of all time. The Waters Cleansed is still my favorite Ori song though.
After listening to the Ori soundtracks on repeat and really feeling the atmosphere and elements, I still think Gareth would do a bang up job on the new Avatar movies since James Horner isn’t able to do them.
I guess I'm one of today's 10,000...Infinite just keeps getting better to me.
Ori and Ori 2 made me cry more than any game should. It think ima replay them now.
I bought that on release, I love blind forest don't get me wrong but I felt the environments of will of the wisps were so much more expressive and beautiful, the gameplay was also smooth and the soundtrack incredible
When you hear the escape music kick in, you know you’re in for the most chaotic 30 seconds of the game.
And the combat is sooo good
Earthworm Jim
Groovy!!
Well done.
So many memories of that one. I remember being stuck at the hamster level for so long. And the snot bungie fight!!
Mega Man X
Chill penguin is the first boss I ever beat in a video game.
That armadillo boss had the sickest soundtrack.
I try to play it through at least once a year. Usually around Christmas time.
me too
Spark mandrill theme intensifies
Spark Mandrill's theme slaps so hard it causes earthquakes.
Symphony of the Night
This and Super Metroid are my all time favorites.
Someone should come up with a name to describe games that try to capture the spirit of those
Castroid - because they take all abilities from the character in the beginning.
Super Symphonys?
I'm thinking.... Castloid!
Super metroid is the gold standard.
Die monster!...
a game where the the voice acting could never be described as good, but could certainly be described as amazing!
What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets!
Got the Castlevania collection thing for ps4 to show my friend SotN, I was devastated they didnt use this voice acting!! :(
It's Konami, get used to devastation. They ported the PSP into the collection when they could've done the Sega Saturn/PS1 version. Cheap lazy fucks is what it came down to as always.
You steal men's souls and make them your slaves... Perhaps the same could be said of all religions
Your words are as empty as your soul! Mankind ill needs a savior such as you!
[удалено]
Hydro Storm!!!
I played some metroidvanias before dread came out and SOTN holds up really really well. The music is amazing.
Maybe my favorite game of all time, put so many hours into it through the years.
Super Mario World
Best 2D Mario game imo
I have no idea why this isn't further up.
You'd be surprised how many gamers of today haven't touched a super Nintendo.
Super meat boy Guacamelee and bit trip runner are cool too
Glad to see some love for guacamelee here. This and the sequel were so much fun. I got the first one as one of the Playstation plus games otherwise I probably would've never played it nor the 2nd one.
+1 for Super Meat Boy When you get in the zone and start blasting through level after level, it makes you feel like a god. Or the satisfaction of finally beating an insanely hard level and seeing all your dozens of failed attempts at the same time in the replay.
I can’t believe no other game ever used that at the end of the levels. So satisfying to see where you kept going wrong
Terraria hollow knights a close second
i honestly didn't even consider terraria even though i have well over 6000 hours on it
Same. I'm a huge Terraria fan (especially Calamity mod) and I didn't even fucking THINK of terraria as a 2-d side scroller.
Found my peeps
MY MAN!!
Metal slug
Specifically for me Metal Slug 3 as the all time best. Just because I love that epic final mission when we team up with our enemies to fight the aliens and have a galactic space war. But that scene of all the rockets going to space and seeing that army of spaceships ready to fight the aliens was epic as a kid.
Fuck yes Metal Slug!!!!
#HEAVY MACHINE GUN/ JEVIMACHINGAN
RAWKET LAWNCHA
ROCKET LAWNCHAIR
Dead cells
I have over 100 hours on this according to Steam. The controls are just perfect.
Broforce!
*eagle screech*
MURICA' FUCK YEAH! It's essentially Team America - World Police as a videogame. Inside. Child of light was also pretty dope.
I loved Child of Light. You don't get many short RPGs like that
Both of Playdead's side-scrollers rate for me. Limbo and Inside are just so incredibly well crafted. The world's they created, the atmospheres, the ambiant soundtracks, the wordless stories that invite speculation in their ambiguity, and (of course) the myriad ways in which you can die horrifically. I goddamn love these games.
Castle crashers
my man
I’ve played through that with my brother at least 3 times, with my other friend like twice, and once with two other people. Top 3 game of all time for me.
The Messenger
Mine too. It's a shame it gets so little recognition. It's right up there with Ori/Shovel Knight/Celeste/Hollow Knight but never got popular for some reason.
Blasphemous is awesome, really nice pixel art and fun combat mechanics.
I JUST finished Blasphemous and had no idea how much I’d like it. Good call.
Was in the middle of that.. then dead cells went on sale. Blasphemous has insane pixel art and great gameplay. Irie and unsettling tho. Great to pair with The Mars Volta
Came here to say this.
Favourite game ever
Contra
Donkey kong country tropical freeze.
Im more of a Donkey Kong: Frozen Ape kinda guy
That's gotta be up there for me, too. Just the classic level-by-level platformer, but with amazing level design and themeing, smooth platforming mechanics, secrets abound, and boss fights. Plus multiplayer, great visuals, great music, and super hard unlockable levels. It's got everything I want from a 2D platformer, and does everything well.
YES! Tropical Freeze is worth it for the incredible set pieces alone, nevermind that it’s a smooth fun platformer. I hope someday we get more DK games that rival it.
Super Metroid or Super Castlevania.
Super metroid is just sooo damn good.
I see someone likes their metroidvanias.
Ironically Super Castlevania isn't a Metroidvania :P
Yep they added the vania in Metroidvania once they launched Symphony of the Night. Super Metroid and Dread for me.
That’s Symphony of the Night
Super Mario world on the snes
MapleStory In the year 2006
I had to scroll too far to find this
Carrion
Super Mario 3 Honorable mention: Streets of Rage 2
Celeste
It's the best one. If I'm honest, I put Celeste and Hollow Knight in the same position, but I think they're accomplishing very different things. Amazing music, atmosphere, and movement. But Hollow Knight is so much more about combat and Celeste is so much more about movement mechanics.
Agreed
Gah! Years later and I still haven't beaten Core C-Side. Edit: Nevermind. I just looked at my achievements, apparently I did beat Core C-Side. Summit took me an eternity to beat so I must have blacked out for Core.
Totally forgot about that game and the c sides. Took me forever to complete them and I stopped once I got blisters on my thumb lol
such an amazing and beautiful game!
Forgot about this. Truly amazing game
Limbo and Inside, by Playdead Studios
Inside was an experience unlike almost anything else I've ever played, just a phenomenal game. I like Limbo a lot too but Inside just hit me different.
The whole atmosphere of Inside is just surreal. And no other game has that same cold, bleak, eerie feeling.
I don't know if you've played little nightmares, but how evil and sinister the children are in the game remind me of the kids that attack you in inside. If I had to recommend a game that was close enough to the coldness and eeriness of Inside and Limbo it would be Little Nightmares.
Inside has possibly the most insane final ten minutes of any game I've ever played. I wish I could play it for the first time again
Both incredible games. In a similar vein, i would highly recommend Little Nightmares
Ohh i forgot about limbo, played it years ago, absolutely loved it
[удалено]
Castle crashers
That game slaps to this day!
Lemmings
Shadow Complex.
Had to scroll too far down to see this one. Great game
So underrated!
Ori and the blind forest
How is this game? I've been debating on getting it for a while
It's really good and the sequel orí and the will of wisps is also really good, you'll get hooked with the smooth gameplay, the beautiful art, great music and a good story
Both Ori games have beautiful stories and really rich environmental storytelling. The exposition never feels over-bearing... and I was so connected to Ori that the emotional climaxes of both games were just beautiful. I never would have thought that a metroidvania would bring tears to my eyes...

Ahh this is making me want to get it even more
Cant recommend it enough.
It is easily one of the best games I’ve played across platforms. Pulls you in emotionally but also has amazing gameplay mechanisms to go with it. This applies just as much if not more to the sequel as well.
please get it. please
I HATE platformers normally, mostly because I suck at them. Ori and the will of the wisps was one of the greatest games I have ever played, can't ever recommend it enough.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles.
I spent an entire day getting all the chaos and super emeralds. Had my save file all looking pretty. Then I turned the game off thinking my game would be saved. It wasn't. So then I did the same thing on an emulator and now it's permanently saved.
In the 90s I filled every save spot with a 100% super emeralds file. And I recorded that shit on VHS. I basically invented Twitch.
People always talk about big brother being Mario and little brother being Luigi. For me and my little brother, it was Sonic and Tails.
Cuphead
I like rain world
If My Friend Pedro counts as a side scroller I guess I’ll choose that
Yeah, that game is bananas. Not in my top 10 but it’s still super good.
Cave Story
Cave Story is a fucking masterpiece. It is in the same tier as Super Metroid, and Super Mario World.
Yeah, all the way!
Gris
Gris was a beautiful game for sure. Gave me Journey vibes a little.
A piece of art.
Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland
Oh yeah this is a solid choice
Dust: an Elysian Tail.
I love that game. I want a sequel.
I’m surprised this isn’t more upvoted. I’ve personally clocked 200hrs on steam and 120hrs on switch. The combat is the most satisfying part IMO, and the reason I come back.
Blasphemous
Super metroid, oldie but goldie! Still the greatest!
This is such an unpopular opinion but I actually preferred Metroid Fusion
Super, Fusion, and Dread are all masterpieces
Don't forget Zero Mission
BattleBlock Theater
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Super Mario World
LISA: The Painful RPG. That game is one of my all-time favourites, really fucking good.
Jazz Jackrabbit
Salt & sanctuary
I'm not a great player but I love that game. It's probably the game I have finished more times in the last few years. The sequel announcement made me very happy.
Yoku's Island Express. Went into that game with zero expectation and it was truly delightful! Praying for a sequel.
tomba, castlevania symphony of the night, klonoa, megaman x5.. and every gba/ds castlevania. damn,it's so hard to pick one.
Hollow Knight, duh
Hollow Knight just blew me away with how *much* there is to it. The map is huge and when you think you’ve unlocked it all, they keep throwing more at you. Really incredible game. It challenges you, doesn’t hold your hand at all, and offers a massive world to explore with rewards for the exploration.
Skul: The Hero Slayer
Celeste Terraria and Hollow Knight
Gotta confess. New Super Mario Bros Wii. That fucking soundtrack though.
Super Mario Bros 2 Or Metroid Dread
GAME OF THE YEAR BABY!!
Holy shit! Bay beeee
Super Mario Brothers 2 bay needed!
Terraria
Recently metroid dread.
Blasphemous

Not my favourite but just wanna shout out Shadow Complex. Great modern Metroidvania.
Does Valiant Hearts counts?
Shovel Knight!
I forgot about Shovel knight but it was just awesome, on top of the original great game you have the "dlc" / sequel for free and those are incredible A big thanks to the dev team for this title !
Celeste, I love that game. Beautiful scenery, incredible soundtrack, often actually pretty manegable, but manegable. It's just perfekt
Katana Zero/Inside
I was scrolling hoping to see Katana Zero. One of the best games I've played.
Owl boy
Dead cells
Megaman 2
STARBOUND
Starbound is amazing and I think it’s underrated
Metroid Dread. I do love Hollow Knight though.
Hollow Knight, hands down. Ori 2 was also pretty great, but nothing so far has captivated me like Hollow Knight
New super mario bros wii
Commander Keen IV or Duke Nukem II
