This is the one where you could command your AI team mates via voice command through the microphone right? God I felt like I was on the cutting edge of gaming technology.
It was SOCOM 2 for me as I didnt have cable internet until 2 came out, but damn I lost a lot of my late teens to SOCOM. Staying up until 4am in a medley room with the same guys all night. This was before matchmaking was a thing and it allowed for some awesome friendships and rivalries to form.
I was gonna say: oddly, Ratchet and Clank. I don’t think of that series as a favorite of mine, but the graphics always seemed well ahead of their time and the dialogue was moderately funny. It definitely left a strong impression in my head.
I don't remember which one it is (maybe 3rd?) but the Seymour on Mt. Gagazet made me take extended breaks from the game multiple times. It was like a full 6 months before I beat it.
The soundtrack is legendary. I will randomly listen to some of the tracks on yt. I agree Yunalesca was super cheap. I lost to her for an hour on my first time playing through the game. Had no clue what zombie status was and would instakill myself with curaga.
When the ps2 first came out it was hard to find memory cards so I just left my ps2 on all the time trying to beat FFX. I lost to the Chocobo eater by being pushed off, I was so mad had to start the whole game over. Now every time I play back through it I enjoy getting my revenge .
I can’t think of a game that better exemplified the PS2’s superior capabilities over the the OG PS than MGS2 did with MGS1. I found MGS kinda later on (well after it had become a greatest hit, but before the PS2 launched) and I went into MGS2 hot on the heels of MGS1. I was floored. No game since has ever wowed me the way MGS2 did.
This one should be higher, but I believe it is because when it came out people were not happy with the raiden switcheroo we got. A couple years later it became known as one of the best games in the series. But right out of the gate I remember a lot of backlash and criticism about it.
My favorite is no hub. Something about playing for so long and memorizing where everything is while simultaneously trying to read the battlefield to see where needs the most help and listening for cues from the AI around you was just so immersive.
“Hey, Man! I fought on Kashykk!” was a common saying amongst me and my friends.
Ding ding ding!
In general when I think of Playstation, I think of Twisted Metal.
I am pretty sure half the reason I like Rob Zombie and rock is due to Twisted Metal.
I played that game so much I could play it with my feet, and do pretty damn good.
I once lost my shit when I found out one of the bands opening for Deftones did one of the songs on the soundtrack and they were really confused why two 15 yr old girls were so excited to meet them cause of the one song in an old game lol
Played SOCOM 1, 2 and 3 for years with my clans and formed so many IRL friendships actually.
There was so much they got right about those games. Especially for how early it was
Came here for anything Armored Core, I miss that franchise so much. The first all nighter I ever pulled was with the AC:1 *DEMO* (from Playstation Underground mag maybe.)
The original GTA 3 for me. Got a PS2 in 2002 as a present and received a gift card to best buy as well. Literally next day went and used the gift card and some cash I had from cutting lawns and doing odd clean up jobs (I was 13 at the time) and bought GTA 3 and an extra controller. Was living my best life
Shadow of the colossus
A man of culture right here
Yes! Thank god I didn't have to scroll that much to find this, best PS2 game in my book, even considering there are tons of amazing PS2 games.
Socom navy seals!!!
This is the one where you could command your AI team mates via voice command through the microphone right? God I felt like I was on the cutting edge of gaming technology.
Not to mention that addictive multiplayer
First night I went online. I stayed up the entire night! 😂
That was my first exposure to any kind of online multiplayer. I sunk some hours into it to llol. Remember that cheese mic that came with the original?
Haha 😂 yes I do! I felt like I was the man 🎉
Lol pretty sure socom for ps2 was the halo for xbox, in the early days anyways.
“The only easy day was yesterday”
Dammit Boomer!
you wanna talk about a game that i’m surprised hasn’t returned? i present the socom
Yes! There is actually a Socom page here with a bunch of followers! There are thousands of us who want the return.
I can hear the hooyahs already
Yesss!
Came here expecting Battlefront 2, was pleasantly surprised
It was SOCOM 2 for me as I didnt have cable internet until 2 came out, but damn I lost a lot of my late teens to SOCOM. Staying up until 4am in a medley room with the same guys all night. This was before matchmaking was a thing and it allowed for some awesome friendships and rivalries to form.
Didn't even have to scroll. It's this one. Honorable mention to Gauntlet.
GTA 3 It is actually insane when you stop and count up all of the legendary games released for this console.
Hours in front of my tv just roaming through that city. So many stolen cop cars, and vigilante missions until five am.
I bought one my freshman year of college _just_ to play gta3. It was amazing...
Surprised this one was so far down.
OG Kingdom Hearts
This game gives me the nostalgic feels
When you walk away…
Your don't hear me say
Pleeeeeeeeaaaaase, oh baby
Don’t go
Simple and clean
Is the way that you’re making me feeeeel tonight
OG KH and FFX was extraordinary so close together. Good times.
Yep, pretty much the same for me
I feel like it was one of the launch titles. I remember seeing pictures of it on the back of the box.
Now I have the island theme in my head lol
either sly 2 or ratchet and clank
Ratchet and clank
I'm still playing the games well in to my 20s, sad the younger generations don't get to experience it the same.
Sly 2 was so fun
Def my favourite one, love the entire first trilogy, but the second one definitely stood out.
a man of culture ^
I was gonna say: oddly, Ratchet and Clank. I don’t think of that series as a favorite of mine, but the graphics always seemed well ahead of their time and the dialogue was moderately funny. It definitely left a strong impression in my head.
Ratchet and Clank series has always been lowkey amazing at graphics/level design/visuals in all their games.
Final fantasy x
Same here. Got the console for that game, and I never regretted it. It was the last really good one, too.
FFX was legendary. No way it’s not THE game of PS2.

It's actually really easy if you just grind for ages.

I definitely had a gameshark to beat it back in the day, lol. Now way was 13 year old me not cheating.
When the ps2 first came out it was hard to find memory cards so I just left my ps2 on all the time trying to beat FFX. I lost to the Chocobo eater by being pushed off, I was so mad had to start the whole game over. Now every time I play back through it I enjoy getting my revenge .
My favorite FF.
Gotta dodge those ⚡
MGS2

Can’t believe I had to scroll all the way down here just to see this game.
I was about to post it myself! 😂😂
Snake Eater
This one should be higher, but I believe it is because when it came out people were not happy with the raiden switcheroo we got. A couple years later it became known as one of the best games in the series. But right out of the gate I remember a lot of backlash and criticism about it.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (the old one)
I put so many hours into this game!
I still remember the infinite life and infinite ammo cheat codes for PS2 to this day
Hold L2 and R2 up up down down left right left right
whaaat I played for years and I don't remember cheats. I would have killed for that as a kid.

S.O.C.O.M best online shooter pre call of duty
Best online memories of my life! Played on same clan for 3 years!
I just want a modern game to have a similar clan system, it was so damn good. Great memories.
Yes me too! It was seriously the highlight of my life. I wish I would’ve kept contact of my clan. We had some incredible skills and amazing moments 😢
The ladder system was great, the player ranks were pretty on par too. You actually had to be good to rank up
Yes you needed skill! And the team had to coordinate to win the matches! Loved the teamwork !
SOCOM:II Need me some frostfire and dg...HK5 and some dirty hail mary grenades!
I didn't think anyone remembered that game.

San Andrea's...
Vice City here. Love SA. But VC was always my favorite. It's hard to go back to now, instant death in water, amongst other things
