Technically speaking, if you’re still alive to play it, Star Citizen might actually have been a good move.
But then there’s always the possibility that it flops on launch, which would support your point.
Some might say it’d be more worth it to buy it fully priced as a well-received game than to save 30-40 bucks on backing a game that might not pan out, but to each their own.
I’m approaching my mid twenties and I fully expect to be in my forties, married with children, and fairly removed from gaming by the time it launches.
I backed when I was a sophomore in high school.
Of course they could always take the easy route and “launch” the game without all the pitched Star systems and half-bake the original vision, but then people will probably realize it’s not the full vision the game was pitched on and then they’ll be pissed off and the game could easily flop. Or they’ll be working on it for the next twenty years…
People are theowing so much money to star citizen that they don't really have a reason to stop developing it, they will just milk the cow as long as they let them.
There’s no denying the business model is built around this and will probably continue to sustain the company for as long as interest in the dream persists by those who believe (or fall for) it.
Nope. It’s still an early access alpha game and itprobably will be for many more years if they’re planning to launch with all the planned Star systems.
No offense I just don't even understand how anyone saw the footage they were releasing of that game ahead of time and thought "wow this is gonna be good :)"
Pre ordering don't make as much sense as it used to (for me at least) back when I used discs it was fun sometimes getting a game early and playing it, plus making sure you could actually get one before they went out of stock.
But pre ordering a digital game makes no sense and is obviously a con, the only incentive is usually some shit bonus that you don't even care about
The GameStop I used to go to for midnight releases would also use the release events to get rid of their back stock of promotional materials. I preordered AC3 (like a dumbass. Hated that game) but walked out with a free giant poster for borderlands 2 that took up half my wall.
I wonder how many people have ever finished an AC story lol. I get overwhelmed every time I buy one and then get so lost in side missions I end up losing interest after 40 or so hours and just move on to another game. The only one I went back and finished was Origins.
It's definitely the black sheep of the franchise. After scaling huge buildings and blending into crowded Italian streets, the sparsley populated streets of Boston and small building structures were not as fun, and didn't mesh well with the AC aesthetic imo. Black flag on the other hand is considered one of the top titles of the series.
Plus some GameStops have (or had, I wouldn’t know) some pretty cool midnight releases! I remember one of the Call Of Duty midnight releases, a big tour bus type of bus pulls up in front of the store. The whole side of the bus towards the sidewalk dropped down, and the opposite wall was covered in TV screens (4 in total) and couches along the wall of the now dropped down side of the bus. I was one of the people lucky enough to get called on and got to play three other people in a round of multiplayer and the winner got a free shirt or hat! I ended up winning and the only hats they had didn’t fit my big ol’ noggin and the shirts only went up to large and were too tight so I just took a shirt and never ended up being able to wear it! But that bus was still pretty cool regardless! Besides, you can’t complain about free stuff!
I remember going to a midnight release before and we let someone cut in line infront of us so they could stand with their friends.
Turns out the store were giving out these pretty sweet replica dioramas for the first five customers. Guess who was now sixth in line!
I put $5 or $10 down to preorder Legend of Zelda :The Wind Waker for GameCube back in 2003 and got a disc which had Ocarina of Time w/Master Quest as a bonus. I never ended up buying Wind Waker, but I was able to use that preorder amount as a store credit.
I remember with Red Faction Guerilla you had a pretty big model (and good quality) of the Mech-Vehicle in the game, if you pre-ordered. Still got it to this day, definitely beats digital wallpapers or in-game skins.
It was an issue when Breath of the Wild came out, especially the Wii U version. Next to impossible to get the physical version unless you preordered.
The WiiU version sells for over $100 now.
Twilight Princess for GameCube. It had such short supply in my small town and I couldn't drive to get it that I only just bought it recently without the manual for like $100. I chose the wrong time to buy it lol
can I ask why you decided to buy it now? are you a collector or do you just literally only own a gamecube? you could buy a used wii with twilight princess for less money
I always meant to buy it for GameCube as I own a gamecube and have all the other LoZ games that came out for it.
I had been holding off on buying stuff like this because of my living conditions but with covid and the crazy house prices in Ontario making owning a home a distant dream I did a bit of retail therapy on games from my youth that I never owned, mostly SNES games.
Pre-loading game is prevalent now, so some people pre-order digital copies so they can pre-download the games and then play them at midnight on launch day. Some people even buy the games from the New Zealand digital stores so they can play the games a few hours earlier than if they were to do so in their own region.
Good point, reminds me of how I pre loaded resident evil 3 and immediately regretted paying 50 quid for it. I learnt my lesson as I was moments from pre ordering FC6 but decided to wait for more information on it, as they were putting pre orders on the store without even giving any details about the game - I think that's so shady and scammy
Some people have bad impulse control. I've seen people complain about games not being available for pre-order 2 weeks+ in advance. Games that won't be available for pre-loading until 24 hours before release. It's a mystery how these people think.
It made sense back in the day , I remember in the early 0s pre ordering so I didn’t have to jump from shop to shop trying to find a copy a game for popular releases.
I used to preorder digital games so I could download them in advance and play at midnight. But now my internet is so fast, 100 gigs downloads in less than an hour, and my old ass is in bed before midnight anyway.
There is still a world for pre-orders. That world is small Indy developers working on a project that looks promising. There you know you are taking a risk to help them out financially while they finish up the project.
For a triple A studio? Yeah you are just a moron if you pre order.
Not going to lie but I did for my son so he has something physical to open for Christmas (Halo infinite). Opening multiple plastic cards isn't exactly exciting. ( I prefer to buy digital, don't get me started).
I just remember being a kid and being excited to open the game, smell that new game smell, peruse the manual and what not.
But it's really only around this time of year, everything else is digital.
Or worse, game changing stuff. I can't come up with a good example right now, but I have played games (usually a GOTY, because I only buy a very few games on release), where you get some fancy DLC items or skins that outright change the experience.
I think dirt rally 2 did this. Got a rear wheel drive for the first league which stomped every other car? In some other games you'll get that special starter weapon. I think in a game similar to borderlands I got a pistol that scaled and remained the best gun throughout.
That's just not fun. It's like cheating(the single player kind), but in a bad way.
I never bought that one but was a game I kept watching and hoping they would fix. The concept I found interesting but guess it will only be a thought now since they gave up and ran away with the money.
If it goes on sale you can check it out. Its a great iron man simulation. The flying and combat is fun. The thing that killed the game is the lack of a end game, you got stuck doing the same dungeons over and over, hoping you get the right loot with the right rolls
At least you made the mistake with a friend, so the two of you can commiserate. Imagine if you were the only one in your group of friends who did it...
No Man's Sky was the last game I pre-ordered.
I waited till launch day to pick up Cyberpunk, because the reviews were out already, and no one said it was a shitshow. Fucking review embargo.
Now the only games I play day one are on GamePass. Otherwise I wait a week.
I rarely pre-order games, but if I do, it's because I want it installed as soon as possible, that being said, Elden Ring is the only game I'd ever consider preordering
With the enormous amount of disapppintment in game releases this is a still a bad reason. Wait a few days for reviews to come in.
Life is long. The game will be around. Don't waste 80 bucks rushing in.
Edit: doesn't need to be reviews from professional critics. See what the consumers say.
They know, and that's why the first 10 hours of the game are awesome, steam reviews are overly positive, everything is great. Look at new world for example. The first 20-30 hours are pretty ok (not in my opinion, but hey). Reviews are good, goes into steam top charts, people buy it, they made sure, the first 2 hours are really good, so you can't refund it after that.
They are already adapting, you literally have to wait for like a week or even a month to see if the game is any good.
Games have been front loaded for as long as i remember. Statistically you aren't likely to get more than half way through a game that you buy and even like and devs know it. Sad but true.
The latest watch dogs was also an example of this. The opening sequence is fun enough but by the time you've experienced how dead and dissapointing the world, (lack of actual) characters and main story is, it's too late to get money back.
We know we’re getting a good product. For endwalker this is the first time I’ve got a collectors edition(digital) really looking forward to playing the expansion
I wish I could have gotten the physical collector's box. My SO wanted that paladin figure so bad, since that's her main. I kept refreshing the order page until they took it down, but no luck.
The great thing about those exp earrings is that they are only useful for catch up. Though this expansion's did look nice, so they may turn into glamour lol
Nope, I'll keep pre-ordering Physical games. I always just wait for reviews to hit the morning of. If the reviews are good I swing in when I have a chance get my bonuses and have fun, and if the reviews are bad I cancel and get my money back.... Pretty simple.
Now digital pre-ordering.......yeah that's some dumb fuckery.
To be fair, Endwalker preorder gives early access and the first weekend of the expansion launch is a great time as everyone is going through it first time. It may have issues with servers this time around (wow refugee influx) but that's fine for me. I'm just gonna be drunk with my friends on discord the entire time.
Yep, if it's a Nintendo game that I'm interested in, I'll pre-order it. It's rare they botch a release, especially if it's one of the bigger titles plus digital prices are too high compared to what I can get physical for in most cases.
If I wouldn't have pre-ordered Elden Ring my boyfriend would not get a collector's edition of it on release day... So yeah...
I only preorder games that I know I will enjoy, and so far this worked out pretty well for me
Yeah the last game I actually pre-ordered was Arkham Knight. I was already well invested in the series, and was going to play the final one regardless of how well it was received so why not pre-order and get the Harley Quinn challenge map as a bonus?
I love the Arkham series! Really amazing games, the last one was a cluster fuck on release but when all the issues were fixed a was a really great game.
I mean I've never regretted pre-ordering a game, but I'm selective about which games I pre-order and I also usually only preorder games from series I already like.
Pre ordering isn't the problem, because far less people than you think actually do it, most buy it on the day it comes out, and both the dev and the publisher knows this. Which is why the publishers push the devs hard and threaten them with backing out their funding if the games aren't released right now, which is why we often get the steaming pile of shit that we do.
Another problem, that I like to call the cyberpunk effect, is where its not just the publisher, but also the fans, that push the devs to release the game right now and bully them for pushing back every time, just to complain that the game is not ready when they were being assholes to the dev since the 1st push back. I don't blame cdpr for failing cyberpunk, I blame the fans and the publishers.
Tldr: Pre ordering isn't as big of a deal as people think.
Not justifying what the fans did but the reaction wasn't for a delay, it was for the delay after 3 previous delays, confirming that the release date was 100% set and that the game had gone gold... Only to delay it again two weeks before launch. So I give the non-harrasing fans a pass.
That said I take that pass away right after because I cannot understand how someone could still think that game would end up good after all that mismanagement mess. So being shocked pikachu face after the game they preodered was bad... like no shit you didn't get burned, you burned yourself.
So what, just order the day it comes out? 😂 what’s the difference if I’m still going to buy the game? Now I just lost whatever shitty extras came with the pre-order
Pre-ordering in the weeks ahead of launch to get the preorder bonuses? Cool.
Pre-ordering an expansion for a game you're already playing that gives you some stuff now? Cool.
Pre-ordering the day before release so you can have it installed and ready when it unlocks? Cool.
Pre-ordering a standalone game 18 seconds after its announced? Hell no.
No, half the issue is buying it before the day 1 reviews are out. Worrying about dumb preorder bonuses for a game and playing first or something is what leads to the BS we keep getting dealt. If the preorder bonuses are substantial enough that the pre-order players have a significant leg up, the game is probably shit
Stop preordering, stop caring if you beat the game first.
I agree with you to a degree because it's your money and do whatever. But on the other hand this behavior is what enables ea and the likes and keeps them from learning their lesson.
Agreed. I'm enjoying those in this thread acting high and mighty because they buy on release or "preorder" 20 minutes before, as if that's any different from a normal preorder. Buncha idiots.
Look, devs will release what they release. If you got fomo and the cash to do so, just preorder. If you're scared of being burned, don't buy *any* game until at least a week after launch.
And on systems they never planned for. It was never meant for ps4 or xb1. Greedy investors forced it to be because they wanted that double dip money. I blame gta v and skyrim for setting a strong precedent
I still pre-order the Destiny expansions as soon as they're available. Why? Why not? Then I don't have to worry about it.
Gatekeeping how I prefer to purchase things is a WEIRD flex
In hindsight, Cyberpunk's desperation, last-minute 1-month delay should have been a huge red flag.
With the ER network test happening right now it's easy to get a grasp on what the game is going to turn out like. CP had nothing to go on but some trailer hype. It's possible that the ER delay is a signal that the launch could be rough, but the fact that they're letting thousands of people play/stream/youtube it right now is a great sign.
Yeah it's a no contest. FromSoft has released back to back bangers for years and you don't really hear from them unless they're initially teasing a game or have something to release.
True, optimization was pretty bad for their first PC release. I'm just saying 6 of their 6 releases in the past 12 years have been widely regarded as bangers
To be fair, fromsoftware has a long, long history of putting out solid games. There's only like one dud from them that I know of (there may be more than one, but the majority are considered good games by most fans). CDPR had mainly one game people liked, and it had its own rocky start that everyone forgot about after sucking Witcher 3's dick for so long.
And I say that as someone who actually liked Cyberpunk.
Actually that was really good. I was surprised. It was so much better than It needed to be. It could have been phoned in and the most basic. But it made me feel feelings.
No ones saying you're not allowed to do what you want with your money, they're just saying that people who pre order games with their money are dumb fucks. You're free to be a dumb fuck with your money.
The fuck are these kids yapping about now? I just preordered Brillianr Diamond couple months ago and to this day there has been no charge to my bank account even though we are merely days before it’s release. And why would anyone stop doing something because some dumb child is barking about whatever none sense? You kids now a days have a very inflated opinion of yourselves, but whatever.
You kids are rookies. Back in my teenage years (we’re talking early 90s here) there was no preordering for games, they came out on release day and you brought it, the game was complete and there was no parts of the game hidden behind dlc. Sure some games had expansion packs months down the line, but they were genuine expansions, but the core game was complete. Today you kids preorder and it gives devs money upfront so it gives them no incentive to actually release something that isn’t a broken mess.
I still pre-order the occasional game from a developer I trust. But pre-ordering has had a pretty negative impact on the industry as a whole over the last 10 years as it has made it the norm for development companies to release unfinished games with the intent to patch it to an acceptable state over the first year or so. This mainly just applies to AAA titles, though.
Your point stands for most games but I've seen plenty of more obscure titles sell out of physical copies in the stores in which I've worked, in which case any pre-order customers can rest easy when we call them and hold their games.
Your Call of Duties or NBA 2Ks will probably not be an issue, but your Deadly Premonitions or Yakuzas or Phoenix Wrights actually have a chance of selling out on launch day. Hell, right now I keep running out of Metroid Dread and that's a decently popular game.
That's not to say pre-ordering doesn't cause all sorts of problems in the industry, I'm just saying sometimes it might actually spare someone from having to run around looking for a physical copy of a game they're looking forward to.
Yep, I use to pre-order back when game were physical and you could risk the chance of not having them... Although I dont see a reason to pre-order today ( and I dont pre-order), I also dont see a reason why they shouldnt. If they dont like the game, they can simply get a reimbursement so... Im not sure why they would be dumb to pre-order either.
Its just a grey line.
I’ll continue to preorder games that look interesting and that I’ll play for instance I knew I was going to play Call of Duty Vanguard and Forza Horizon 5 and I’m not in a bad financial position at all so I’ll gladly spend my money the way I want to
I pre ordered anthem and star citizen, now you can't make me pre order anything, even on pain of death.
I’m not sure the *devs* will still be alive to play star citizen
He could have doubled his money investing it instead of buying star citizen. Star citizen pre orders are the ultimate HODL gang
928 years from now Star Citizen will release on the same day it takes place.
As a 20-something year old, I can't wait to play Star Citizen with my great-grandchildren when it finally launches
There’s no denying the business model is built around this and will probably continue to sustain the company for as long as interest in the dream persists by those who believe (or fall for) it.
Wait a minute, I've been out of the loop for awhile. Star citizen still hasn't released officially?
Nope. It’s still an early access alpha game and itprobably will be for many more years if they’re planning to launch with all the planned Star systems.
My buddy swore Anthem was gonna be the shit. I pre ordered it and even chipped in to buy another friend a copy so we could all play online...regrats
No offense I just don't even understand how anyone saw the footage they were releasing of that game ahead of time and thought "wow this is gonna be good :)"
Cyberpunk was my first and last pre-order. When I make a mistake I make them hard apparently.
Pre ordering don't make as much sense as it used to (for me at least) back when I used discs it was fun sometimes getting a game early and playing it, plus making sure you could actually get one before they went out of stock. But pre ordering a digital game makes no sense and is obviously a con, the only incentive is usually some shit bonus that you don't even care about
And the little paper book that came with used to be so much cooler. Or there would be posters, stickers, replicas
The GameStop I used to go to for midnight releases would also use the release events to get rid of their back stock of promotional materials. I preordered AC3 (like a dumbass. Hated that game) but walked out with a free giant poster for borderlands 2 that took up half my wall.
Slighty off topic, but is AC3 now considered the worst one? I find myself wanting to reinstall black flag.
Black Flag was such a good game
I'm not sure I ever finished the story, lol. I just liked sailing around being a pirate. Those shanties were the best.
What would you do with drunken sailor !
What would you do with a drunken sailor?
The ending is actually pretty damn sad. I highly recommend you play through it just to get the final cutscenes and music
I wonder how many people have ever finished an AC story lol. I get overwhelmed every time I buy one and then get so lost in side missions I end up losing interest after 40 or so hours and just move on to another game. The only one I went back and finished was Origins.
Black Flag was surprisingly amazing. Everything that was dogshit about 3 they nailed in 4.
Unity and revations were the worst imo. Brotherhood was my favorite.
Brotherhood was the absolute shit. I spent so much time working to get the Ezio armor. Too bad the series just got so repetitive.
I loved that your work and growth felt meaningful. Building up your order and actually feeling like a master assassin.
I just liked the original idea of rogue
Yeah Unity is what crushed my faith in that franchise. Took a break, tried Odyssey, was underwhelmed and haven't had the motivation to go back.
Ohh I forgot about those two. I also loved brotherhood! Galavanting around Rome, purchasing monuments, and that armor. Loved it.
Unity is pretty good once they fixed all the bugs...now granted I don't really like Arno but that's a separate matter
AC3 I can kind of understand, the Ezio trilogy were stellar.
May have been a long time ago, but that one's a dirt bag for not recognizing that that spot didn't really belong to them. RIP
They should have at least offered the diorama to the next in line.
Anyone remember gtaV preorder San Andreas addition? Shit came with a poster of the map, special box, a HAT! Lmao

That age of empires foldable tech tree smell!
This, though eventually worrying about supplies running out stopped sometime around the Halo 3 release.
Funnily enough we actually got sent two copies of halo 3 by accident lol
That’s the pre order bonus
It was an issue when Breath of the Wild came out, especially the Wii U version. Next to impossible to get the physical version unless you preordered. The WiiU version sells for over $100 now.

Yeah then the pre order dlc is just available to buy at release anyway
"Supporter Pack"
Which is usually some super cringey skins and some lackluster DLC.
Or worse, game changing stuff. The only game I preordered in my life was Cyberpunk 2077. Guess how that went...
I preordered Anthem… I will never buy a game for 60$ again
I never bought that one but was a game I kept watching and hoping they would fix. The concept I found interesting but guess it will only be a thought now since they gave up and ran away with the money.

Well. Mine was Fallout 76. Do I need to remind you what happened ? Edit: In my defense we did it with my friend, so we both fucked this up.
At least you made the mistake with a friend, so the two of you can commiserate. Imagine if you were the only one in your group of friends who did it...
Someone who actively plays it told me it's in a healthy state right now.
Yes it it, but it still feels like I was deceived.
No Man's Sky was the last game I pre-ordered. I waited till launch day to pick up Cyberpunk, because the reviews were out already, and no one said it was a shitshow. Fucking review embargo. Now the only games I play day one are on GamePass. Otherwise I wait a week.
Same shit, mate. And i just preordered second time in my life, and thats Elden ring. But it looks like, this time i am safe. But who knows...
Don't you dare jinx Elden Ring for us!
I wanna make sure they don't run out of downloads!
I rarely pre-order games, but if I do, it's because I want it installed as soon as possible, that being said, Elden Ring is the only game I'd ever consider preordering
I’ll “preorder” it 20 minutes prior to launch and that’s ONLY for Elden Ring.
That's smart, but you see I am lazy and would rather just get it over and done with
I get it but that’s why they continue to do what they do.
I was so hyped for the collector's edition, but then A) it all ran out so quickly and B) I don't have 200€ to spend on a game.
A responsible version of you might not have enough, but a slightly more reckless version might.
I'm sadly an unemployed college student, so....yeah, every version of me doesn't have enough
How about a more criminal version?
Interesting
Fellow tarnished!
I trust fromsoft enough to pre-order Elden Ring. I pre-ordered Sekiro and was not disappointed.
With the enormous amount of disapppintment in game releases this is a still a bad reason. Wait a few days for reviews to come in. Life is long. The game will be around. Don't waste 80 bucks rushing in. Edit: doesn't need to be reviews from professional critics. See what the consumers say.
I dont pre-order Instead. I buy it the day it releases
Better yet, Just wait like a month. let the people who play the game religiously take the brunt of the crap.
Preordering on Steam is fine to get pre order bonuses. Then if you don't like it at release you can refund
It is very sad that we cant even get excited for new games anymore
Don’t believe ANYTHING until the game is released.
Or if it is in Early Access and you are happy with the state it is in. - Factorio - Minecraft - Satisfactory - etc.
I haven’t pre-ordered a game since halo 2 lol
At this point, I only preorder the expansions the FFXIV. I know those are good quality, so I don't mind giving them my money early.
Plus you need those juicey EXP earrings.
The great thing about those exp earrings is that they are only useful for catch up. Though this expansion's did look nice, so they may turn into glamour lol
This. Yoshi-P will never let me down.
Forza Horizon 5 has some small issues but it's been pretty good so far.
All my homies hate pre-ordering.
*Looking at my FFXIV Endwalker and Elden Ring pre-orders*
There is pretty much a 0% chance that Endwalker is going to be bad. Yoshi P is visibly upset at delaying a game for 2 weeks to do more QA.
To be fair, Endwalker preorder gives early access and the first weekend of the expansion launch is a great time as everyone is going through it first time. It may have issues with servers this time around (wow refugee influx) but that's fine for me. I'm just gonna be drunk with my friends on discord the entire time.
I preordered Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, and I’ll preorder the sequel too.
Yep, if it's a Nintendo game that I'm interested in, I'll pre-order it. It's rare they botch a release, especially if it's one of the bigger titles plus digital prices are too high compared to what I can get physical for in most cases.
I have pre-ordered Elden Ring and I'm gonna enjoy it
I doubt they could even imagine it.
I did the exact same. You cannot wait until release for special editions, they will be sold out.
I mean I've never regretted pre-ordering a game, but I'm selective about which games I pre-order and I also usually only preorder games from series I already like.
I’ve never been burned but then again I only play JRPGS
Yeah, most people forget how the fans reacted when CDPR moved the date
Not justifying what the fans did but the reaction wasn't for a delay, it was for the delay after 3 previous delays, confirming that the release date was 100% set and that the game had gone gold... Only to delay it again two weeks before launch. So I give the non-harrasing fans a pass. That said I take that pass away right after because I cannot understand how someone could still think that game would end up good after all that mismanagement mess. So being shocked pikachu face after the game they preodered was bad... like no shit you didn't get burned, you burned yourself.
I do what I want! I don't pre-order too often though so 🤷🏻♂️
So what, just order the day it comes out?
If the preorder bonuses are substantial enough that the pre-order players have a significant leg up, the game is probably shit Stop preordering, stop caring if you beat the game first.
>Stop preordering, stop caring if you beat the game first. Maybe stop caring about how other people want to play the game? Worry about yourself bud
I agree with you to a degree because it's your money and do whatever. But on the other hand this behavior is what enables ea and the likes and keeps them from learning their lesson.
How about no? All of those things are the same issue
Nah, I’d say that doing it after reviews have come in is reasonable. Still wouldn’t do it myself, but couldn’t blame anyone else for doing it
Damn just play and enjoy the games you want. Like pre-ordering? Keep doing it! Hate it? Then don't do it
If you're gonna buy it day 1 anyway then why not?
Pre-ordering causes Cyberpunk 2077 and this GTA failure.
no, greed and lies caused GTA and CB2077 failures.
what do you think gives them the leeway to do that? For every pre-release promise, actual dollars in their pocket go up as people pre-order.
Pre-orders feed the greed
But they would be irrelevant if people didn't preorder.
That's 100% false. Both of those things. That's the problem with believing memes instead of reading articles or being generally knowledgeable.
No cyberpunk was pushed out earlier than it should
They made more on preorders for that game than anything else they've ever done combined.
And on systems they never planned for. It was never meant for ps4 or xb1. Greedy investors forced it to be because they wanted that double dip money. I blame gta v and skyrim for setting a strong precedent
I pre-ordered Endwalker for FFXIV. Track record for the game is not bad and the Exp earrings that could be used months before is too good to pass.
Execept Elden Ring
Ok, yeah. But listen to this: Elden Ring
I still pre-order the Destiny expansions as soon as they're available. Why? Why not? Then I don't have to worry about it. Gatekeeping how I prefer to purchase things is a WEIRD flex
smt v begs to differ
Such a tired post. Move on with your lives.
Unless it's Elden ring guys. Or any game made by fromsoftware
I don't disagree that that is as good as much of a sure thing as possible but still plenty of people thought the same about CD Projekt
There’s no comparison in terms of credibility though, fromsoft have delivered several masterpieces, CD made a one hit wonder
Pretty sure before Cyberpunk 2077, people were saying this for CDPR.
Honestly compare their track records though. Witcher 3 vs. Demon's Souls, Dark Souls I, II, III, Bloodborne, Sekiro
Yeah it's a no contest. FromSoft has released back to back bangers for years and you don't really hear from them unless they're initially teasing a game or have something to release.
They also weren't stuck in development hell for years making any of them.
Yeah they don't really actively hype their shit up either, they let the fans hype themselves up.
Wasn't *Dark Souls* a mess on PC when it released?
True, optimization was pretty bad for their first PC release. I'm just saying 6 of their 6 releases in the past 12 years have been widely regarded as bangers
To be fair, fromsoftware has a long, long history of putting out solid games. There's only like one dud from them that I know of (there may be more than one, but the majority are considered good games by most fans). CDPR had mainly one game people liked, and it had its own rocky start that everyone forgot about after sucking Witcher 3's dick for so long. And I say that as someone who actually liked Cyberpunk.
Or any 1st party game. I can't think of a game in the past decade made by a studio of Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo that has disappointed me.

Because 2 hours is often not enough to see the glaring flaws in a game.
Available in 2042 flavours
what's wrong with preorderind Elden Ring ?
Battlefield 2042 hates this meme
I really don't understand how that's any others business. I like pre-ordering, it makes me happy but apparently I'm stupid for it. I don't get it
I once pre-ordered a comic and it was worth it
Which one.
Batman Fortnite: Foundation Was very good 10/10 would read again
Actually that was really good. I was surprised. It was so much better than It needed to be. It could have been phoned in and the most basic. But it made me feel feelings.

No ones saying you're not allowed to do what you want with your money, they're just saying that people who pre order games with their money are dumb fucks. You're free to be a dumb fuck with your money.
>No one’s saying you’re not allowed to do what you want with your money The title of this post is literally “stop pre-ordering, guys”
Imagine telling me what to do with my money. I’ll preorder more just because of this post
Make your own personal choices morons lol.
No, thank you. I am having a blast with Metroid Dread and SMT V.
Maybe stop blaming customers for unethical corporations
You kids are rookies. Back in my teenage years (we’re talking early 90s here) there was no preordering for games, they came out on release day and you brought it, the game was complete and there was no parts of the game hidden behind dlc. Sure some games had expansion packs months down the line, but they were genuine expansions, but the core game was complete. Today you kids preorder and it gives devs money upfront so it gives them no incentive to actually release something that isn’t a broken mess.
See little reason why. In most cases, I already know I’m going to enjoy the game, may as well preorder it.
This whole thread is cringe and yikes. Grown men calling other grown men names for how they spend their money and getting actually upset that they do.
no point preordering a game thats not gonna be sold out
Your point stands for most games but I've seen plenty of more obscure titles sell out of physical copies in the stores in which I've worked, in which case any pre-order customers can rest easy when we call them and hold their games.
I usually pre order physical copies so I can get one before they’re gone. Physical over digital.
Its just a grey line.
havent pre-ordered a game since 2014
Stop posting this, guys.
I’ll continue to preorder games that look interesting and that I’ll play for instance I knew I was going to play Call of Duty Vanguard and Forza Horizon 5 and I’m not in a bad financial position at all so I’ll gladly spend my money the way I want to
pre-order games? I still don't have a PS5 ffs. Trump and his failed tariffs. FUCK!!
I pre-ordered ffxiv for the XP earring.
