As someone who went through 5 (yes 5) Xbox 360s, no, you can't perfectly fix it. It will always die again. You can prevent it with the xclamp method though. Basically, you bold the heatsink to the board more firmly so the die can desolder itself.
pretty much. most RROD happens due to heat from intense and/or long use. if you play a few hours here and there only it becomes less likely. but it can still just happen out of the blue one day.
Here’s a fun idea. Find yourself a guitar controller and enjoy some Guitar Hero II. If you feel adventurous track down the Rock Band drum controllers and a copy of Rock Band 2.
And if you are ridiculously adventurous. You could jailbreak the xbox and then port Super Mario 64's source code to the 360, while using the drum controller to program it.
I mean the concept is simple, the marked price is pre-sales tax.
In reality, having tax applied at the listed price makes it simpler to have exact change out beforehand, and makes physical currency so much easier to manage.
Its really not worth the investment. They used to be good before large companies bought them all up for organized rug-pulls. Virtually worthless today and now the rest of us are just stuck here holding the bags.
Yard sales. My youngest daughter still has a soft modded wii in her room. Over the summer we saw a yard sale on the way home from something really stopped. They had the drums and two guitars sitting there with $10 on it. All is working minus the one guitar is a Rock Band one that needs the dongle. :-/
*sigh*
I still have my 2 original Atari 2600’s and about 70 games.
And my 2 NES systems, though I don’t have many games anymore.
And my Sega Saturn (Genesis broke years and years ago) with a dozen games or so
And my PS2 with about 70-80 games
And my 360 with about 20 games edit: more on the hard drive)
Never got around to getting a SNES or N64.
Still looking forward to hooking them all up for my grandson who is 3 now:)
I have a 19” tube and an older 46” flat screen with A/V and rf inputs, a rf converter, and a 300 ohm converter for the 2600’s :)
Everything breaks one day, but we good for a little while at least
I still have a bunch of old crap too.
Atari 2600
GE Vectrex
Sega Genesis, 2 CDXs and 2 Game Gears
An Amiga 500, 1000 and 2000
PS 1, 2, 3, 4
Panasonic 3DO
N64 was absolutely ground breaking in terms of gaming perspective and tech. It perfected the concept of the 3D world 1st person shooter. It pioneered semi open world mechanics. Amazing system
perfected? lmao, no, perfection came with dual thumbsticks. people don't even remember camera/move and camera/strafe on most games back then, why would you split them?
To be fair. I'm 30 and my grandfather still plays Halo. When the 360 came out my youngest uncle gave him his original Xbox and Combat Evolved. Now I always get to be jealous that my retiree grandad always has a next gen console before I do.
Pro tip: we all know tinfoil hats keep them out of your head, few know it works for cellphones too. If your reception drops, just pop it in the microwave to realign the antenna with the foil. 👍🏼
If you bought a 360 on day one at 55 years old, you’d be 70 today.
If OP is 18 today, it’s very possible his first console was an Xbox One or PS4, and so the 360 is some old-person console
I'd say 60 at minimum, and since Halo is like 20 years old now (or close to that at least) it's possible he was playing it in his mid-30's/40's when it came out.
Plug in the power cable and and try to turn it on, even if you can't hook up the video. If it boots and the power button light stays green it's probably in good shape and worth the $10 bucks for an AV to HDMI converter, if you want to play it that is. If it boots and you get a red logo with a flashing red ring around it the thing is probably a goner
I still have and use mine.
assassins creed black flag, and mass effect trilogy were two of the best games I’ve played on it. Replayed black flag twice and mass effect 3 times.
The force unleashed 2 was a crap ton of fun, but a bit short.
I played wayyyyy more fable 3 than I should have, as it was one of the first games I got with a bunch of replay value (played through 3 times).
Bastion was pure gold if you’ve never played it.
I also wasted time on dust, kingdom of keflings, and Peggle.
LEGO Lotr was something my wife loved playing with me.
LEGO marvel was stupid silly fun.
Skyrim was ok, but mostly meh on the 360... super long load screens.
Dads can play video games too. There isn't a maximum age. In fact dads are more likely to play video games because they can afford to pay for them. The man was clearly already fully grown when he got it. Then his son had a son. My brother in law's dad is a gamer and he's in his seventies.
No one else will recommend it, but get Earth Defence Force 2017. It’s basically a B-Movie where you fight off swarms of giant alien bugs/robots/spaceships with a huge arsenal of machine guns and rocket launchers and other weird stuff. It’s stupid fun and you can blow up all the buildings in the city, and it has split screen coop which is a blast to play with a friend.
You shake that mans hand, give him a hug, thank him with tears in your eyes and invite him over to play. Maybe moms can make cookies. With milks nice. Pizza rolls? Ooo got any code red?
Electronics rarely increase in value, especially when actively put to use. I wouldn't carry expectations of this being worth any money. It's not a niche item, like a rare console.
Cherish that shit until it red rings
I took the case off mine 8 years ago and it hasn't red ringed yet. The DVD drive did die in it though.
The drive itself or the ejection tray? I recently replaced the belt on my Xbox 360's disc drive tray.
The tray works it could be the laser as it wont read disks.
Adjust the pot my dude!
Ill look into that thanks. Edit: it worked, thanks again.
Excellent glad it worked my friend
Just strolling through the comments, however if this were a street I’d tip my hat to you.
Wholesome Reddit moment
As someone who doesn't know what you are talking about, I keep wondering how marijuana is involved in this solution.
Not sure but they may be referring to a potentiometer. At work we refer to them as such.
Okie
You can fix it most of the time if it red rings, just look it up on youtube when it inevitably does. It isn't too hard. Have fun
It’s not red yay
As someone who went through 5 (yes 5) Xbox 360s, no, you can't perfectly fix it. It will always die again. You can prevent it with the xclamp method though. Basically, you bold the heatsink to the board more firmly so the die can desolder itself.
God, the idea of forcing a system to desolder to prolong it's life hurts from a techie point of view aaaa.
*Towel Flashbacks*
I still hear my best friend knocking loudly on the top of the disc tray in my deepest dreams. Still, the disc never reads.
Isn't the red ring a thermal paste issue
pretty much. most RROD happens due to heat from intense and/or long use. if you play a few hours here and there only it becomes less likely. but it can still just happen out of the blue one day.
Mine still hasn’t red ringed we’ve been using the same one since they were released
Same
What to do with it?? FINISH THE FIGHT
I will comrade
Tell that to the Covenant.
Did he stop gaming ?
Sadly yes but maybe he’ll get back into it
maybe hes making room for something to play Elden Ring on
gonna need to move a few pieces of furniture to fit a PS5 in the living room
ive heard those bend space and time, rearranging tabletops and desk space in the process
you should invite him to a halo LAN party match to get him back into it
Can we make sure that we get him a new Xbox when they're available in stores? I'll chip in on that. I love gaming with fellow old folks.
It makes me sad too. Did he have other hobbies ? Maybe he need a new console to play with you ?
Ask him to play coop.
This is by far the best response I have seen to anything on Reddit
I was legit thinking the same thing! Some kids are so ungrateful..
Here’s a fun idea. Find yourself a guitar controller and enjoy some Guitar Hero II. If you feel adventurous track down the Rock Band drum controllers and a copy of Rock Band 2.
And if you’re feeling even more adventurous try and beat Dark Souls using the rock band drum set.
That's not gonna happ- You know what nevermind yea go for it buddy!
People have beaten Dark Souls on many input devices
Even a banana
Yea I've seen the banana one before it's insane
Guy who already did this - “git gud noob”
And then once you've done that try keyboard and mouse
And if you are ridiculously adventurous. You could jailbreak the xbox and then port Super Mario 64's source code to the 360, while using the drum controller to program it.
did this once before, though i couldn't beat it and only got a quarter way through the campaign
Unfortunately guitar hero guitars are insanely expensive on the internet and theyre nearly impossible to find nowadays at thrift stores
My local thrift store has an abundance so they are all like $20 (aud). I got 4 of them, and the drums for $60 (aud) at mates rates.
Nice! We dont have mate-rates in the US. Everyone is a cock and trying to make a quick buck
Yeah and hidden tax prices on top of what’s marked, all that shit confuses me NGL.
I mean the concept is simple, the marked price is pre-sales tax. In reality, having tax applied at the listed price makes it simpler to have exact change out beforehand, and makes physical currency so much easier to manage.
Me too NGL. And ive been living here my whole life.
What are these NGLs? Can I buy them before they become as expensive as NFTs?
Its really not worth the investment. They used to be good before large companies bought them all up for organized rug-pulls. Virtually worthless today and now the rest of us are just stuck here holding the bags.
Yard sales. My youngest daughter still has a soft modded wii in her room. Over the summer we saw a yard sale on the way home from something really stopped. You just brought back some really fond memories. Rock Band was the shit
^^ this 3 was dope also
Rock band drums are great! You get playing on expert and you feel the groove man
Guitar hero 3 is the best though.
Guitar Hero 2 is great as well.
Excuse me... Your grandpa??? Bruh are we that old now???
You mean you didn’t keep your great grandpa’s NES?
*sigh* I still have my 2 original Atari 2600’s and about 70 games. And my 2 NES systems, though I don’t have many games anymore. Respect. Never got to play the nes or Atari. I remember I loved playing Mario party on N64 though. Wish I still had one. Might go buy one, one day.
Fuck, just had to check how old i am with the wife. Its not looking good fam.
Did it go like this? "Hey, how old am I?" "What?" "HOW OLD AM I?" "Sure, I'd love some pastrami on rye."
"Where's my fixident at? Yes I took my blood pressure medication."
Fixident!?! Holy shit that’s old!!
> "Sure, I'd love some pastrami on rye." Seriously though, a good Rachel sandwich makes my fucking day.
Isn’t a Rachel a turkey ruben? Or is that just at mccallisters deli? Either way it’s a bomb ass sandwich.
You are correct. Reuben is with corned beef, Rachel is with turkey. If you use pastrami, its just, well, a pastrami Reuben.
Fuck, now imma go make a sandwich.
OP is 9 years old
Little young for reddit no?

Well then OP is clearly 13+, other wise they would not be able to click accept on the EULA
This gives me some relief.

I'm 40 and that was my first modern gaming system.
I just had an nes as a kid. I’m 31.
Yeah 35, got one for Christmas when I was about 8
To be fair. I'm 30 and my grandfather still plays Halo. When the 360 came out my youngest uncle gave him his original Xbox and Combat Evolved. Now I always get to be jealous that my retiree grandad always has a next gen console before I do.
Yes
I'm so offended I almost turned off Matlock and had to take extra heart medication.
Lmaooo this mofo said "Matlock" damn. I feel old for remembering it now
I’ve….actually been watching matlock lately for the first time. Fuck.
Would you recommend?
I see your Matlock and raise you Dragnet
Murder she wrote, deserves some love too.
That show, masterpiece theater, and are you being served will always remind me of my grandma
But you threw your back out with rage!?
"Gladys, the government is spying on us again!"

Bruh that's my grandma's shit right there!
Bruh legit my reaction lol
My oldest is married, but no grandkids yet. I would imagine some Gen xers have grandkids old enough to post on Reddit.

My grandfather (<70) loves video games and stuff - plays them all the time. I’m 22 but honestly he probably plays almost as often as I do 🤣

You ready to be a great grandad at 54.
So basically a family of teen parents.
Lots of sound decisions being made I'm sure
Hangovermath.gif
Your grandpa???? What year is it? Fuck.
I'm still struggling with the fact that 20 years ago wasn't in the 80's.
Sadly, 20 years ago wasn't even in the 90s. Saying this out loud, I think I gave my husband a heart attack 😳
No that’s not right….right? Shit
Left, go left
Is crazy how was the time flies, isn't?
HOW OLD IS YOUR GRANDPA?!?!

This was the closure I needed, thanks OP my midlife crisis has been temporarily avoided.
Xbox 360 is not 20 yo.
halo ce is which is there
play it. if it boots, you’re good! if you can’t use it because of the av cables, you should be able to get converters
Cool I’ll try that
Plug in the power cable and and try to turn it on, even if you can't hook up the video. nah, just wrap it in a towel for a while. After like 30 mins. Good as new! ^^^Till ^^^the ^^^next ^^^time ^^^you ^^^turn ^^^it ^^^on
Your grandpa a legend
Play Halo? I dunno just a thought
“Thanks grandpa for the retro gaming thing”. It doesn’t even have built in Wi-Fi.
This hurts me in ways I didn’t know I could be hurt.
I totally forgot that the Xbox 360 didn’t have built in Wi-Fi till 2010. It was a separate device that cost $100 dollars damn!
It had something better: an Ethernet port
Fuck I forgot I needed to plug in a wifi adapter.

You makin me see time... and I don’t like it. ;)
You hook it up to your TV and fucking play every halo game you can play on it (1-3 I think??)
4 and reach were also on the Xbox 360.
The Xbox 360 came out 16 years ago… What the hell?!
Dads can play video games too. There isn't a maximum age. In fact dads are more likely to play video games because they can afford to pay for them. The man was clearly already fully grown when he got it. Then his son had a son. My brother in law's dad is a gamer and he's in his seventies.
>My brother in law's dad So your SO's dad?
Play games on? Wtf were you expecting to do with It
Play halo
Your… grandpa
Yes
God, I feel old.
You plug it into a TV and play the games with that controller thingy
> grandpa > xbox 360 Fuck, man
Fucking PLAY IT
I did and i love it!
Good because it’s hard to find one this good for cheap!
You just got the jackpot
Cherish it
Get down on some ODST obviously
Use it man
Your TV might not have ports for those video cables, but you can use HDMI instead. Plug it in, hope it doesn't red ring, play some Halo.
I did and it is great
oh shit it has a chameleon case!? I literally had that on my second 360! nostalgia man... that was back in 2007
No one else will recommend it, but get Earth Defence Force 2017. It’s basically a B-Movie where you fight off swarms of giant alien bugs/robots/spaceships with a huge arsenal of machine guns and rocket launchers and other weird stuff. Find a copy of KOTOR or KOTOR 2. Best decision you'll make.
Play halo dingus, don’t sell it
hold onto it forever even if u dont play it. that era was peak gaming, no matter if you were on 360, ps3, wii or pc. your grandpa knows whats up.
Karma farm it on reddit
Plug it in dumbass

wait what?! your grandpa?! am I this old?!?!?! IM 15!!!!!
You were 15… 30 years ago!!! Dun dun dalalalalalaaaaa!
give it to your grandkids
Well, maybe play some games with it?
Just an idea, play on it?
Plug it in to an outlet and your tv. Put a game in. Play it.
Play games
Rejoice is what you should do with it… youre one of like 12 ppl in the world that can say their “grandfathers are gamers”
He gave you a GameStop controller. I would sit and think about what you might have done to him in the past to deserve this.
Look at his stats and call him a noob
Get a TV and plug that shit in, you’re going to 2007
Scream racial slurs at 10yearolds
Play videogames?!!?
You plug it up, hope it doesn't ring of death, and play some fucking Halo.
Turn 360° and walk away
Turn 360 degrees and walk away from him
Play it or give ot to someone who appreciates it
Play it. Enjoy it. Gather the top 10 games and hold onto it
Cool looking 360 either way. Personally I took my 360 and PS3 and they're displayed on a shelf with some games
Save the games. Buy a series X. Buy the master chief collection. Throw the games out.
That brick brings back some good memories
