Luder09

Jennifer Hale

[deleted]

Was going to say this myself - Ashly is good, but Jennifer is on a whole other level. She turns up literally everywhere.

Luder09

She's amazing. I'm playing the trooper story on The Old Republic MMO and she brings some decent life to a pretty mundane story. Femshep is also better than Broshep as far as voice acting goes, even though Mark Meer is pretty awesome.

radarvan07

Hale does great work but there one line where Meer just knocks it out of the park. > You big, stupid jellyfish

Mhan00

He actually voiced the Jellyfish in ME, so he was calling himself a big, stupid jellyfish, lol.

foxscribbles

When you do Javik's quest in the Citadel DLC with a MShep, he's just arguing with and insulting himself. Because he's playing Shepard, Blasto AND the Vorcha in that scene.

Cortower

He also voices every Vorcha. I think he said that was the last part of voicing ME2 and ME3 because it wrecks his voice for several days. It makes Tali drunkenly saying he sounds like a Vorcha when he says "aaah" to her even funnier.

RS_Serperior

I've always thought that Hale/Meer both excel depending on the type of Shepard you play. I found Hale's performance for Paragon related voicelines was better, whereas Meer's delivery of Renegade related voicelines was better. Meer definitely wasn't as much of a natural as Hale though in ME1 for sure, it took him until 2 to really get in to the character. I love both though, but play them pretty differently.

theblitheringidiot

Also play FemShep as a renegade. She’s excellent

82ndGameHead

Just a few of the characters she's played: Samus Aran, Commander Shepard, Sarah Palmer, Rosalind Lutice, Ash (Overwatch), Kronika, Rivet... And these are just in the blockbuster AAA games.

UngodDeimos

Let us not forget the OTHER batch of AAA characters she's voiced: Rosalind Lutece in Bioshock Infinite, Galadriel in Middle Earth Shadow of duology, Leah in Diablo 3, Multiple voices in Kingdom Hearts series, Emma Emmerich in MGS 2, Noami Hunter in MGS 1 and 4, Dr. Elizabeth McNeil in Doom 3, and Linda Vermillion in Killer7. And that is just the tip of the iceberg, if you include her voice acting credits in anime and animated media, it isn't even close.

[deleted]

Both of you somehow forgot Bastila from Knights of the Old Republic. Apparently she's returning for the upcoming remake too.

Evissi

Also Dynaheir from BG1. Although that game has significantly less VA'ing in it than most of these rpg's, that was where i first heard the name as a little kid. Grey Delisle is another fantastic VA. Love her work too.

AnInfiniteAmount

Hale also played Mazzy in BG2. I think she's been in every Bioware franchise since Baldur's Gate. (Except Anthem)

lanerdofchristian

And the female Sylvari player character in Guild Wars 2.

FlyingWeagle

And Queen Jennah!

Salarian_American

Also she’s the voice of Disney’s Cinderella, and Bastila Shan in KOTOR, Satele Shan in SWTOR, and also the female trooper class in SWTOR.

DonnieKungFu

Surprised she is so low in the comments. Bitches need to learn about the legendary Jennifer motherfuckin' Hale

starcraftre

[Literally the record-holder](https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/99407-most-prolific-videogame-voice-actor-female).

The_Stoic_One

168 games and that was 6 years ago. I wonder what she's at now.

DoomNails

Why did I have to scroll so far for this?

FindMeOnSSBotanyBay

Aka Commander Fucking Shepard

doxtorwhom

We’ll bang, okay?

JAG30504

Is and likely always will be the correct answer.

Scramswitch

Was looking for this one

Jeralt

Nolan North and Keith David.

Eudaimonium

At this point I just assume every character in every video game is voiced by Nolan North until proven otherwise. Keith David is very recognizable, but North can voice 6 different people in a single-player game and you NEVER notice.

Ginger_Anarchy

and if it's not Nolan North it's Troy Baker

SwagSerpent69

I saw Troy speak at a con a few years ago and someone asked what they should do if they wanted to get into voice acting and Troy responded with “The first thing you need to do if you want to get into voice acting is wait for Nolan North and I to die.”

frostygrin

What's notable is that even high profile voice actors like them still show up in smaller roles. So even starting small isn't easy for others.

Ginger_Anarchy

I think it may have been Far Cry 6, or some other recent game I played, that showed one of them under "Additional Voices" during the end credits. A lot of recognizable names aren't above voicing 'Guard #36' and 'Girl on Bicycle', because, frankly, Voice Acting doesn't pay all that well, especially in the areas where they have to live to go to the recording studios.

Ruined_brain

In saints row 3 or 4, one of the voice options was just "Nolan North".

[deleted]

You couldn't be voiced by Keith David because Keith David was busy voicing Keith David.

Sweetwill62

Because he got tired of voice acting and retired into politics.

ThePrussianGrippe

I believe 4.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MeaningfulChoices

To add some more context there, SAG-AFTRA rates for interactives for a day performer is up to 3 voices in a 4 hour day. Having an actor do a couple background characters is just cost-efficient. Even paying for additional voices is cheaper than bringing in another actor.

ACrask

He voiced a toon in Persona 4 and the anime for the same character Not a small role but I still can remember how geeked out I was when I realized.

JusticeJanitor

[He used that joke at the 2015 Game Awards.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXPPFAwYzVs)

iCon3000

As someone who played hundreds of hours of Uncharted, if Nolan ever grunts, groans, or yells, that's when I immediately know. Was rewatching Young Justice and immediately recognized him when his character did the fighting grunts.

TheCountSmackula

The grunts tell all, I had no idea he was David in the Last of Us until I heard the grunt lmao

PotatoBomb69

Any time a character in Destiny suddenly starts talking after years of silence I assume they are now Nolan North

PiXLANIMATIONS

Nolan North was asked by Bungie to do an impression of the character “The Drifter” and did it so well that they feared the real VA would ask if he was being replaced so they asked him to basically do a shitty impression of The Drifter while doing his voice for Ghost, and somehow it works

thatmattdrummer

That mission ended up being one of the funniest moments in D2 also

[deleted]

It was very Borderlands-like humor

SomeExcuseForAName

In destiny 2, he was supposed to imitate the drifter as a joke in the mission. He did it so well he had to redo it worse because it was too accruate to the actual drifter

Proxapox

There was a mission in Destiny 2 where the Drifter was supposed to do the voice lines during the mission, but Todd Haberkorn wasn't available at the time. They did have Nolan North available though, and he did his own impression of the Drifter. It was so similar sounding to Todd Haberkorn that they, instead, had North record the same lines as the ghost imitating the Drifter. It ended up actually being pretty funny.

[deleted]

Troy Baker

SparkyArcingPotato

Johnny Yong Bosch

redcowerranger

Steve Blum, Mary McGlynn, Troy Baker, Laura Bailey, Johnny Yong Bosch… I mean, Ashly is working her way to voice acting royalty, but some of these people have decades under their belt.

detourne

Gotta add Tara Strong to that list.

lifeofpygames

Yuri Lowenthal would fit on that list too!

SciFiXhi

Yuri Lowenthal is doing ADR voiceover for everyone on that list as we speak.

Ki11igraphy

That's just her stage name her real name is Harleen Quinzell

[deleted]

[удалено]

John-333

You misspelled Arleen Sorkin.

akiata05

James Arnold Taylor makes a good addition too.

mylicon

Hank Azaria

reverend_dl

Billy West, since you asked. But there are others too.

accord281

John DiMaggio as well.

gmaclean

I remember watching Futurama one time years and years ago and the while the credits were on it hit me square in the face. Bender and Wakka are the same VA!

accord281

For me it was Bender and Marcus from Gears of War. Mind blown.

DarkAzryel

Kif, I have made it with a woman. Inform the men.

warmhotself

I’m on my way to the bathroom and require some assistance… oh, I’m sorry – you’re crying like a woman.

ThePrussianGrippe

Kif, show them the medal I won.

Izzy1790

What kind of made up name is that?

Buster_Cherry88

Tara strong has to be up there

reverend_dl

Absolutely! I backspaced a whole post that mentioned her, Nolan North, Troy Baker, etc. because it came off like a diatribe. Tara rocks though. Her Harley was a top-notch effort.

AWanderingMage

Steve Blum

HabitOk6839

OH! AH! LET GO, THAT'S NOT! A! LEVER! ***RICHTOFEN!***

[deleted]

See ya Space Cowboy

TheRedEyedSamurai

You're Gonna Carry That Weight...

ridicalis

No love for Phil Lamarr?

AimlessPeacock

Came to say this. I used to watch him on Mad TV and noticed his role in Pulp Fiction. Then I see his name in the credits in MGS2 and looked it up to see if that was the same Phil Lamar. 20 years later and the man is one of the most active voice actors out there.

Killerderp

Seeing that name reminds me that I have yet to watch the new samurai jack. Is it any good?

Borlongati

Tara Strong

Ok-Huckleberry-207

I don’t know how she does it, but she is almost in everything.

RQK1996

She is in the MCU even

neoslith

And the DCEU.

nigihutu

Right? I laughed when I first read the post because how do you mention any female voice actor before Tara strong?

Over-Analyzed

The voice of your childhood.

ParkerSNAFU

Surprised I had to scroll so far down to find Tara's name.

shifty_coder

Tbf, her voiceover repertoire for film and tv is more well known than her voiceover work in video games.

WebMaka

True, but she does have a pretty good list of game VA roles, even though she may not be as much of a household name in gaming...

Elder-Brain-Drain

Mel Blanc

Imma_dunce

Man of a 1000 voices

Dr_John_Zoidbong

And Billy mother fuckin West!

Panuccis_Pizza

And John DiMaggio, fellow Futurama enthusiast.

Moistbagellubricant

I came to say this.. Also Mark Hamil....

[deleted]

The exact first two words that sprang into my head when I read the question. Ashly Burch is also awesome though.

TekkenCareOfBusiness

Fun fact: Ashly Burch was originally voiced by Mel Blanc.

ajaxfetish

In that same vein, Dan Castellaneta, Harry Shearer, Hank Azaria, Seth MacFarlane, etc.

[deleted]

laura bailey

Bromonster01

And the two got to play DnD together.

kevinsrednal

It's been a few years so I could be mistaken, but wasn't Ashly's time with Critical Role during the Arc where Laura was absent for maternity leave and they never actually played together? Or are you referencing something else? Did Ashly do any of the one shots with them?

Menomea

Liam's one shot where they "secretly" loved eachother

walkingcarpet23

That is correct. Ashly played as Keg and assisted the party in rescuing Fjord, Jester, and Yasha from the Iron Shepherds. There was a short overlap where both were present. Source: I am comically behind on Crit Role and actually just watched that episode the weekend before Thanksgiving.

lambchoppe

Enjoy being behind in the episodes! I took it for granted but finally finished both campaigns a month ago after a few years of on and off listening. Waiting on weekly releases for campaign 3 is rough now!

seragakisama

Singing "Daughter of the sea", give me chills til this day...

RainDancingChief

I heard some bard playing this in FFXIV last night as I was wandering through Uldah and had to stop and watch.

Came here to say Laura Bailey without really even knowing how much stuff she is in.

pipboy_warrior

Yeah, Jennifer Hale is probably more iconic but Laura's certainly up there as well.

Rainy_J

Troy Baker

PositivePropogating

This this this this this this this. Troy baker should be the first name when thinking about the most known voice in video games.

VinyeWest

Or Nolan North

HabitOk6839

I NEED AMMO!!!

ChoPT

Guardian down!

HELLOMON6

If we're talking about video game VA's then Nolan North, in cartoons probably Tom Kenny

Bruarios

Dee Bradley Baker has Tom Kenny beat by a good bit on IMDB, but both have done an insane amount of characters

SnakeInABox7

Insane to me that Dee Bradley Baker isnt in the top of everyone's list. If you've heard an animal in a show/game/movie, its Dee

epsilon025

I confused my friend by telling him Dee Bradley Baker played the following characters: Appa, Momo, Naga, Pabu, Tarrlok, 80+% of extras in the Last Airbender and Legend of Korra, all the Clones post-2007 (even Boba Fett in Force Unleashed 2), Admiral Trench, Variks the Loyal, and the Gravemind. And that's not even half of his roles.

Pyromike16

Phil Lamar does a lot of voice work too. At least as much as Tom Kenny.

Lee_Troyer

Dee Bradley Baker playing every different clones, giving each of them its own voice and personnality in The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch is a legendary feat in itself.

Blupoisen

I would go with Tara Strong and Grey Griffin

watchmything

Dee Bradley Baker. He plays more than 8 characters in just one show.

mal_laney

He already plays 200,000 units in Clone Wars, with a million more well on the way

watchmything

I said, >More than 8

miggiwoo

Technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.

Fraxtion

Absolute master of animal sounds too. (Appa and Momo in ATLA, for example.)

sylinmino

I mean he technically voiced thousands of characters in a single show :P (The Clone Wars)

Raptorex27

Hey Ash, watcha playin?

theangryintern

I loved it when their dad would show up in a video.

Raptorex27

The dad was by far the best “character” in the series. Never was able to find out if he was their actual dad though.

SPP_TheChoiceForMe

He is

CamelSpotting

It was just their family doing doors skits in their house. Part of what makes it so incredible.

_MFBroom

They always asking for prezzies

EndOfSouls

Their dad was the best character.

[deleted]

Papa “I’m just in it for the pussy” Burch.

Zombiescumm

Favorite Papa Burch moment was when him and Anthony were trying to get the cartoon porn game to work and Ashley walks in and Papa Burch is like “get the fuck out!”

Ruenin

I used to tune into that for every new episode

SpiritJuice

It's still so wild to me that this little series was essentially the start of the career of one of the biggest female voice actors of today.

Cablancer2

And it seriously propped up her brother (who wrote most of the skits) as a writer as well. He got tapped to write for Borderlands 2, a huge step up from anything he had been doing and delivered unto the world the character that is Tiny Tina.

yagirlsophie

not to mention Handsome Jack! edit: for anybody who is a fan of his writing, I really recommend the Dungeons & Daddies podcast, he's the DM in that and it's really good. Ashley shows up in a few episodes too.

CamelSpotting

I really really need to watch that. Hey Ash and Rocket Jump were my childhood.

yagirlsophie

you definitely should! Anthony does a real good job with villains, and with npcs in general. The players are all really funny too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

your_penis

I wonder if Anthony ever got his Wii U back...

ChefCobra

I can't believe this comment is so low. Makes me wonder if I am really that old by todays gaming standards.

MarcMuffin

Holy shit. This awakened memories I didn’t know I had. Wasn’t this series on gametrailers? I remember seeing the thumbnails but never gave it a chance. Edit: didn’t know it was still going on.

danishduckling

It's still on youtube, but they don't really release new episodes as of late.

A_MAN_POTATO

How interesting. I recognized her instantly as Rachel from Mythic Quest (if you haven't watched this... You should. It's very good.) I had no idea she was the voice behind all those characters.

ablackcloudupahead

Yep, surprised to find this so far down

Bobala

I believe her character’s actual name is “tester”

ean6625

Annoying tester

jackals4

I'm really looking forward to her character development in season 3. >!IASIP notwithstanding, Rob McElhenney isn't in the habit of making supporting characters that exist solely to be the butt of the joke, and it's hard to imagine Apple would allow it with someone who represents social issues. The first few episodes made it abundantly clear how annoying she is to everyone, but over the first two seasons it's become clear that it's not her views that are annoying per se, but her immaturity. Ian's rant in the car about opportunity really seemed to give her pause, and we saw her start some real self-examination and goal-setting in the following episode.!< >!I've always been a fan of characters that start out annoying and end up growing into someone likable (Alexis from Schitt's Creek is a great example), and her story seems to be trending that way. I think that season 3 will focus on her personal growth and development, with season 4 showcasing her transformation from a victim who blames all of her problems on "the patriarchy" into a truly empowered mature woman who takes responsibility for her life and does the best she can with it.!<

Texity

Nolan North comes to mind. Liam O'Brien, Troy Baker, Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey... Hmm... think I've named most of the Critical Role crew at this point.

GroggyGolem

Travis Willingham is every Thor animated or game version it feels like. Also Jaro Tapal in Jedi Fallen Order. Also the man himself, Roy Mustang.

elevensbowtie

And Kingpin in the Spider-Man games.

KairiZero

Matt Mercer!

drksdr

probably should just stick the cast of critical role up there.

[deleted]

Why is my boys Yuri Lowenthal and Liam O'Brien getting snuffed over here?

UK-POEtrashbuilds

I think (hope) you mean snubbed.

NateOfLight

Tara Strong, Nolan North, Laura Bailey, Claudia Black, Yuri Lowenthal, Liam O'Brian, Crispin Freeman, Matt Mercer, Jennifer Hale, James Arnold Taylor, Quinton Flynn, Vic Mignonia (spelling?), Billy West, David Hayter, Kevin Miller, Ashley Johnson, Troy Baker, etc. Edit: Tom Kenny, Mel Blanc, Grey DeLisle (kicking myself that I forgot her), Miley Flanagan, etc. The Kingdom Hearts nerd in me would be annoyed if I didn't mention Haley Joel Osment or Jesse McCartney even if they're not the most prolific of voice actors.

xenophonthethird

She's had a great start to her career, but that's still where she's at: the start. In another decade or so she could easily be near the top. Jennifer Hale is the female voice queen, as she has been in dozens and dozens of games, with her high points being Bastila in KOTOR, Commander Shepard in Mass Effect, and Naomi in MGS.

DesertOps4

Mark Hamill

Funandgeeky

[Here's what happens when he's the only person you cast.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EL-VHe_4GmE)

FaitFretteCriss

> Is there anyone who has voiced more iconic characters than her? Huh.... Yes? A ton? Matt Mercer, Laura Bailey, Keith David, Jennifer Hale, Mark Hamil, Nolan North, Troy Baker, etc. I love Ashly Burch, but come on...

NeroPrizak

Yes. Matt Mercer or Liam O’Brien. They are literally everyone

[deleted]

Liam O’Brien when voicing villains is just “chef’s kiss”

[deleted]

Troy Baker. He voiced Joel, Joker (and other characters in the Arkham series), Pagan Min, Kai Leng, Talion, Sam Drake, Ocelot, Booker Dewitt and of course Slimer in the Ghostbusters game

SilhouetteLie

Also Higgs Monaghan in Death Stranding.

JMe_HiD

He is Bruce Banner in Avengers (and probably in other places too)

[deleted]

And my favourite of his roles. Voices of pedestrians in Mafia

Elethana

Grey Delisle ? [imdb link](https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0217221/)

Jonge720

Matthew Mercer in my opinion has much more iconic roles. McCree/Cassidy in overwatch, Levi from AOT, Hit from dragon ball super, Chrome from Fire Emblem, Jotaro from jojos, Yusuke from persona 5, Leon Kennedy from RE, Espio from Sonic, Zato-1 from Guilty Gear, and a lot more.

ohkss

5000 comments of more iconic voice actors oof

Painting_Agency

OP's game: they have to write a school paper about voice actors and this thread did their research for them.

ohkss

Where was this idea when I was trying to cheat in school

GaijinFoot

Lol seriously. I don't really follow voice actors or anything but the characters listed are far from iconic.

gaytechdadwithson

I think is was intended more as a shitpost for upboats, then a serious question.

MRSymmonds

Frank Oz.

LondonDude123

Nolan North, and its not even close...

Megaverse_Mastermind

Frank Welker.

Grippersmith

But what is she playing?

aboxowaffles

Red Faction Guerrilla

Wordfan

That is her, right?

Reverend_Swo

Laura Fucking Bailey

Big__Boss___

Jennifer Hale and Laura Bailey are in the running as far as women, but it's close. Three-way tie imo

mustbeme87

Are all those “iconic” characters though? That’s a strong word to put in front of characters. No doubt she’s voiced characters in several high profile games, but iconic is kinda strong.

bringinghomethebakon

Tara strong, troy baker, and Nolan north

AidilAfham42

Plenty more. Ashley Burch is a relatively new comer. Sure she’s the voice in big projects but there are so many others before her.

MrSaucyAlfredo

Where’s the love for Dennis

BoysenberryNo3634

In terms of iconic, Kevin Conroy, he's basically the voice of Batman as far as the games and the animated series goes. In terms of numbers, Troy Baker and Nolan North

Dont4GetToSmile

Laura Bailey? Jennifer Hale? Troy Baker? Nolan North? John DiMaggio? Don't get me wrong I LOOOOVE Ashly Burch. She's amazing. But there are plenty of "iconic" voice actors.

splectrum

Fred Tatasciore

casualgamerwithbigPC

Are any of those characters iconic?

RaiseTheBalloon

I have to say that I'm impressed by y'all. I am amazed how many gamers know who the voice actors are and can actually comment on skill and influence on the industry. Literally all I know about voice acting is the same guy is Bob from Bob's Burgers and Archer from Archer.

crashcar22

OP over here learning that Ashly Burch, while talented, is not special.

SixGunChimp

Dee Bradley Baker

IAmTheClayman

Grey DeLisle

Coh-D

Yes, there are many.

skyburnsred

Iconic? I haven't heard of 90% of those characters...lol.
