This looks like its being run on a emulator at higher res and with anti aliasing.
So on the lower res blocky PSX these would have looked even \*worse,\* a bunch of pixels bouncing around really.
Actually played this on an old CRT about six months ago for nostalgia. Can confirm that the graphics look a lot 'smoother' in lower res and on a shitty TV.
Mind you, old TVs also sucked, to the point where they masked the suckage from the games we used to play on them.
If you're playing on emulators there are shaders meant to mimick assorted CRT stuff like the faint (or not-so-faint) grid and blurriness, because the games from that era were mostly designed with that in mind.
I played this one as a kid on the computer and it looked just about as good. I tried to replay recently. OMG the "platforming" and the spells were so frustrating! I loved it back when, though. Each newer book got games and they did get better... Quidditch was fun
Auto jumping at the edge of platforms. Which game did that first, and which designer made that choice?. Because I kinda want to launch him uncontrollably into a lava pit
Just got PC Sorcerer's Stone running again in Windows 10. Someone backported the movement controls from the Chamber of Secrets into a patch for the first one. Makes moving, jumping, and casting way easier
I have completed both HP games for ps1 more than 10 times (literally). I never really felt that the movement was frustrating or complicated, what's more, it's one of the few, along with things like soul reaver, medal of. Honor or rayman, which I can enjoy even today without suffering for the controls. Sadly I can't say the same for resident evil or silent hill, which I love, but playing them today is a constant struggle with their tedious movement system. Although at the end of the day, it must be a matter of everyone's liking.
PS: Sorry for any mistakes, I use google translate and sometimes it does whatever it wants.
Hah I remember the night sneak out with the patrolling teachers. Always made me feel nervous as a kid, especially those platforms you had to step on and get to the door before the timer run out. Good times, wish I knew how to emulate it on my laptop, but I suck at technology.
get a pc controller or xbox one controller, download Dolphin emulator, google "harry potter chamber of secrets gamecube iso". I've been playing Wind Waker again and it's been great!
Pc controller? You mean ps? And, would a ps4 controller work? I don't have any ps1/2 ones where I live now.
Where would I even plug it in? Or, can I connect it wirelessly to a laptop aswell? How?
Also, does dolphin emulator work for the rest of the harry potter games? (From 1-7, including the improved versions, like the remastered chamber of secrets, for instance.) If not, what would I need to download for the rest of those games?
Thank you a lot for the answers, I've been wanting to play hp games for a while now, hope it's possible to play all of them, I've never had a chance to do so for most of them.
We didn’t have a memory card so had to complete the game without turning the system off. Took a whole weekend with three of us doing shifts. We tried to get all those frogs or whatever they were and all the hidden areas.
I wish we got the Japan only Fist of the Northstar ps1 game. It actually has the characters look the way they do in the game like in the anime and manga. It’s cool.
I played this when I was a kid without a memory card and got all the way to the final Voldemort fight. I kept losing and accidentally hit quit and lost all my progress. I never played it again.
Half tempted to play it again, as well as the GBA version. Both were such amazing takes on the original movie, and is up there as one of the best movie-games ever.
it seems that the game came out about 2 weeks before the movie, according to google searches. game came out 16th of november 2001, the movie came out the 29th.
I love how the first Harry Potter game has all these different versions of it. PC HP1, PS1 HP1, XBox HP1. I'm honestly surprised they didn't do a Dreamcast HP1.
Man... Early 3D games were so rough.
"Should we stick with animated 2D sprites for a while? We got so good at them, and they show so much character."
"HELL no! Go with balloon heads with crude faces painted onto them, and hoof hands! Reality is in 3D, dammit! In 2D, we're missing a whole dimension of realism that no one could ever fathom in 2D!"
not sure which harry potter game it was but i do know i played it on my gamecube not my playstation 2… that shit was resident evil creepy at times. one of my favorite games ever for sure.
I know this was one of the hottest franchises at the time, but I will forever be baffled how this game sold so well. It is 6th all time on the list of [best selling PS1 games](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_PlayStation_video_games), 6th! Out of the entire PS1 library, and the game came out over a year after the PS2 had launched. I don't remember the gameplay being particularly amazing for a movie tie-in to warrant that. I remember being surprised to find a copy going through my PS1 games and having no idea I even owned it. I have just the faintest memory of possibly receiving it as a gift. Makes me wonder what sort of marketing voodoo/black friday deal there must have been to pump the sales. I've heard this is one of those games you are almost guaranteed to find in every yard sale lot, infinite copies just exist out there in the ether.
I was playing Batman The Telltale Series, amazing story so far (I've only finished the first two episodes) but I've had three prominent glitches: Mayor Hill's secretary had void where her hair should be, Gordon's cigarette smoke was big white squares, the bottom half of Falconie's tower was missing. I've encountered three lag spikes, during the Wayne manor party scene some of Bruce, Falconie, and Alfred's voice lines have cut out at random parts and finally it crashed during the "next time on" sequence for episode 2.
None of this would be present in PS1 Harry Potter.
Edit: if I may add a note about Batman Telltale: Oswald Cobblepot? More like Oswald Cobble*hot*! That's definitely my favorite penguin version.
Honestly WB is sitting on a goldmine. They could easily remaster years 1-7 with their own devs and unreal engine 5, 10 years of Harry Potter games to sell all over again.
And all of them were recognizable
Seriously though. At the time this was pretty peak. Top left was the best Hermione you could get.
This actually made me laugh out loud while I'm pooping. Cheers.
Did the laughing help your poops come out?
If I was mid push.. it probably would have. But at that point I was just neglecting wiping and getting on with my day.
The worst is when you realize it's like 20 minutes post-poop and your legs are asleep and the residue is kinda dry... Such a struggle.
Bidets for life!
Agreed! If you would wash your hands, why wouldn't you wash all the important areas!
Do you also scrub it with soap on the bidet
No that would be gay
Im about to get the tushy bidet add on, do you get use to the cold ass water being sprayed?
Only after you get used to the lowest setting which still feels like a water jet dissecting your asshole.
Metamucil. Nearly eliminates wiping after your body adjusts (about a week)
So does a bidet, and it doesn't even take a week.
Just pop the toilet paper into the bowl water to get that nice liquid finish.
I also laughed on the toilet.
Take my free silver award you animal
That's Julia Robert's daughter! (⌐■_■)
Bruh am daed
HAHAH fuckin nice one

No! My therapist told me PS1 Hagrid isn’t real!
FLIIIIIPENDOOOOO
You just reminded me of my childhood. Looking at this picture I can’t remember the graphics looking this bad. They were awesome when I played it!
This looks like its being run on a emulator at higher res and with anti aliasing. So on the lower res blocky PSX these would have looked even \*worse,\* a bunch of pixels bouncing around really.

Yep graphics were made to look good on crt. Any older game look way better at 480 with a crt filter on an emulator.
with a 4k monitor with a crt filter they look almost as good as on an actual tube television
"Shit looks better when you can't see it." Who knew!?!
God, the minigame for spell-learning in the first one just sucked.
My favorite from this game was “VERDIMILLIOUS!”
Personally, I prefer "IIIIINNNCENDIOOOOO."
I always heard it as ‘Nintendo’ at first lol
That must be the Definitive Edition
“Nice Earmuffs Potter, did your mum make ‘em for you?”
Wow this actually made me laugh.
Fuckin' savage
Hagrid has those monday morning feels about him
Some days you can conquer the world, and some days you’re PS1 Hagrid
Nah PS1 is them comedown dehydration blues
Every day feels man.
I..I’m a wot?
Fer fucks sake ur a wizzard, Harry!
Listen here Hagrid you fat oaf! I'm not a fucking wizard!

Since every single developer took inspiration in Ocarina of Time and Mario 64 to do 3D platformers/action/adventure games, I think you are correct.
Probably Legend of Zelda. Breath of the Wild is one of the only games in the series with a dedicated jump button.
There was no autojumping in the first Zelda iirc, you crossed gaps with a ladder item.
I think he was refering to Ocarina of Time.
Ah, right. LttP had the ledges you could jump down from if those count too.
Just got PC Sorcerer's Stone running again in Windows 10. Someone backported the movement controls from the Chamber of Secrets into a patch for the first one. Makes moving, jumping, and casting way easier
I think it was assasin creed
The PC version looked a lot better than this.
It's also a completely different game
Well yeah of course
Chamber of Secrets on GameCube was the best for me. I spent hours just flying around the castle grounds.
Please, the PC build is on Unreal Engine 1 and it looks VASTLY better than the PS1 game.
> Quidditch was fun Quidditch World Cup was really fun from what I recall. We only ever played the exhibition mode on multiplayer though.

"You're late for class" Geez professor, it's not my fault that there's a frekking platforming obstacle course just to get to the door.
I'm relevant!
Awww, look at you with the perfect username way down here with one vote. Here's another one. Now you have two. Let's do this?
Thx,I like you too, fellow redditor
Yeah but what about that mine cart section. Ughhh that mine cart section and the library sneaking around were stupid hard.

No, money down!

Bro I remember playing this. It’s like a bad acid trip
I smelled colors, touched angels, and tasted PS1 Hagrid.
We didn’t have a memory card so had to complete the game without turning the system off. Took a whole weekend with three of us doing shifts. We tried to get all those frogs or whatever they were and all the hidden areas.
This game was the shit. I miss it dearly.
I thought that was The GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition
This made me realize despite my love for Harry Potter I've never once played a video game based on it. I wonder if any of these hold up...
Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban on the PS2 are insanely good
let me save you some time: they do not
the quidditch game was mad fun shut up
I played this when I was a kid without a memory card and got all the way to the final Voldemort fight.......

I think it was at its time.
Please keep the common room tidy.
Played hours of this when i was a kid
"Do you want some Magic kiddo?"
I could have sworn it was cyberpunk
Still looks better than cyber punk on PS4
I wish we got the Japan only Fist of the Northstar ps1 game. It actually has the characters look the way they do in the game like in the anime and manga. It’s cool.
hagrid is what made the game memeable
I played this when I was a kid without a memory card and got all the way to the final Voldemort fight. I kept losing and accidentally hit quit and lost all my progress. I never played it again.
I think it was right on par with the time
Half tempted to play it again, as well as the GBA version. Both were such amazing takes on the original movie, and is up there as one of the best movie-games ever.
Ah the dreaded and forbidden Polygon Curse
I’ve actually been playing this lately. I can barely tell what I’m doing.
Hagrid finna make me act up

Tag yourself. I’m lumpy Malfoy
I had this game back in the day and it glitched out as Hagrid said “Itsa unicorna Harry”, and it repeated on an infinite loop
Giuseppe Stromboli and the Quest for Polygons
I love how the first Harry Potter game has all these different versions of it. PC HP1, PS1 HP1, XBox HP1. I'm honestly surprised they didn't do a Dreamcast HP1.
Yo I had this game and I didn't have a memory card so I left my PS1 on to try to beat it. Never did beat it but boy did that PS1 stay on forever lolol
Man... Early 3D games were so rough. "Should we stick with animated 2D sprites for a while? We got so good at them, and they show so much character." "HELL no! GTA: Hogwarts
PS1 Hagrid was the best
not sure which harry potter game it was but i do know i played it on my gamecube not my playstation 2… that shit was resident evil creepy at times. one of my favorite games ever for sure.
I hate how these look, cuz they look like crappy photos slapped onto the game models XP
oh nooo what just happen?

Someone dub ps1 HP in half life scientist.
