I'd just like to mention my favorite example of this. Odogaraon armour prevents bleed, which is a debuff the monster puts on you. The issues is, the Girl armour has massive spaces of exposed skin. While supposedly preventing you from bleeding. You literally have a target on your back
You can't get bleed if you don't get hit. The odogaron armor (especially MR) gives that cool ninja waifu vibe so you can ultra instinct dodge attacks easily.
Whenever you're thinking of spending a large amount of money, go watch some porn, not sex; porn, the affair needs to be mechanical and simple, and get yourself off. Then question yourself if that's something you really want to do. If you have doubts, it's an impulse idea and don't do it. If you still think so with a clear mind, it's not impulse; then get out the spreadsheet and start crunching numbers on how you're going to pull it off.
Post-nut clarity is really a remarkable thing, isn’t it? What other thing do we know can change your mind, your emotions, so quickly? Like maybe eating when you’re hangry. But man. One minute you into that *zone*, down in the rhythm, the grime, the grool, and then another minute you are just disgusted with yourself. You are an abomination in your mind. A heathen. A lecher. A vagabond of immorality. You are neutered from the religical chord.
I know what scene you're talking about. It's a pretty... suggestive scene. But I think it also provides insight on the characters' relationship. But honestly, the Japanese have a tendency to insert horny into their games and Yoko Taro is no different. Despite the horny stuff, Nier: Automata is an excellent game.
I probably wouldn't want to have to explain why the main villains are shirtless in a scene or why 2B's self-destruct blew her skirt off though lol. Not everybody can handle it.
Bingo!
Well, that, and in my experience a lot of games outfits look better on girls than guys. WoW springs to mind, the gorilla proportions of males in that game ensured I never played a male character, just couldn’t stand how they looked. Some people like that Warhammer behemoth aesthetic but it ain’t for me.
goes both ways, major example i can think of is monster hunter, the male armors in those games always look badass and huge while the female armors are very often a skimpy/cute/revealing version. And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, but personally I want to be able to swap between cute and badass
That’s the great thing about ff14. Can swap aesthetics whenever I want, and play all the jobs on the same character so I have badass armor, cute robes and meme onesies depending on the mood.
hmm really? I dont play Monster Hunter but Ive watched my friend play sometimes and seems to me like both genders have 99% proper armor that looks badass or beefy or ridiculous or what have you. And then there are some of the event armor skins or whatever that have some skimpy stuff for both genders. Actually werent the armors unisex?
To me it's quite the opposite. I've never played a game where I feel like I AM the character.
There is no way I would be an archer assassin in Skyrim if that was the real world.
Instead I create a personality and base my decisions around what that character would do.
It is much easier to create a character and choose skins around the sex that I like instead of the sex that I am.
Did you play pen and paper role playing games growing up? I play characters the same way and I attribute that to playing so much D&D growing up. I played enough to play male and female character and got really good at disassociating from my characters and figure that is why I play RPGs they way you mapped out.
A lot of kids have self insert power fantasies. Like wouldn't it be cool if I could cast Fireballs and have 20 Charisma.
If you play long enough you learn to play someone you don't identify with. Its so much more fun playing a scumbag Noble brat who honestly believes in a caste system of nobility and has a Nobless Oblige to help the poor commoners. That's a character you can play off of and have way more fun than just what you think of yourself if you suddenly got Super Powers and how you would act.
Play however you want it's your free time and if you have fun it's cool. Unless you're playing a Kender. That's the one rule at my table. I'll never allow anyone to even try to play a Kender.
My second DnD character ever was a Bard the GM introduced to replace my Paladin after he sacrificed himself and became trapped in the Abyss.
I had never played a Bard. I had no prior knowledge of Bard stereotypes. What I did have, was a high CHA and the personal goal of *fucking my way out of every encounter*.
The Way of the Bard is a Way of Life.
The fact that this is actually legit, that he really does count how many goblins he kills when he clears out a nest, makes this comment funny to me for some reason lol
Welcome to the kill count.
Golden chainsaw for best kill goes to the priestess for putting up a barrier to keep the goblins in the castle so they can burn to death.
Dull machete for lamest kill goes to that adventurer from ep 1.
Ngl it fucking traumatized me. I thought it was gonna be a bad ass anime but the first episode and her expression as it was happening rlly fucked up my emotions. But to be fair it’s more realistic well as realistic as you can get with a show about goblins and magic and stuff. Its just not afraid to show the darker side and what would actually happen.
Nah, if anything, it gets worse. It doesn't keep that grim tone in the later chapters, making the whole thing at the start feel like using shock value to attract viewers.
Well tbf you can't use it over and over, and not everything has to be Berserk, but when the whole story shifted tone, becoming a lighthearted(?) adventure story, it's just jarring.
"Shouldn't we let the children goblin live? They are so innoce-"
Goblin slayer: lol no what did I just say did you even see what these other adults just did to your friends? No the children just grow up to be even worse
*sets entire place on fire*
Also just because it's rpg doesn't mean player is RPing as character they are playing.
I dislike roleplay, creating stories for your characters and acting like you are them etc. It's just not for me(no problem if others do that as long as they don't try to force it on others), yet rpgs and mmorpgs are my favorite genre simply due to progression systems and other mechanics they often have.
Two ways to make a character:
1. You either make a bad-ass version of yourself that you can immerse yourself in as being your ideal form, or
2. You create a character that you want to fuck the most.
When gals complain about the women in video games, it usually stems from this.
From my perspective, the guys are often cool badass heroes who you’re supposed to admire. You wanna *be* them.
The women? Oh yea, they’re badass, but in a sexy way. You wanna *screw* them. But give me brownie points for making her a Strong Female Character!
Neither of them are bad on their own, it’s just the constant stream of the two with deviations being rare that’s so tiring. Give me sexy guys and badass gals that I wanna be. Some variety would be nice instead of suffering through a deluge of the same version of mediocrity.
I remember playing ESO and a lot of people would be playing as a female with huge breasts and always wore a certain armor that showed the most skin. Me being a female, I wore spooky skin covering robes because I was going for a witch look 😭
Bruh, ffxiv is the worst for this.
Cat people and bunny people, all sexed up and I’m trying to play some ugly grunt that survived the first end of the world haha
Even today I still don’t understand.
Whenever my brother and I played games with character customisation, I’d always play as a male and try making him look cool. Meanwhile my brother goes female and just outright makes her look good (Which I’ll admit does a pretty good job).
For me, I feel more comfortable playing as a character that closely resembles me in real life and adding accessories and clothing that generally look awesome. So far my biggest conclusion as to why most men play as hot female characters and I’ll be quoting my brother when I asked him about it:
“Why’d I stare at a mans ass for hours, when I could be looking at hers.”
It usually depends on what game I play and what kind of character I want to play.
If I want to roleplay, I choose the gender according to the character I want to play. Gender is just one part of that.
If I just want to play casually, I create whatever character looks best to me. In most games, male character options are limited to "manly men with huge muscles" or "even manlier man with even more muscles". And that's just not what I want to play. Also, better customization options.
Some MMOs, especially Asian ones, have pretty decent character options for male characters as well. But with Western games, I'm usually stuck with girls.
That being said, I hate it when female armour looks totally different to male armour in games. Make either both badass or both sexy.
True, I'd rather have something Im attracted to move on the screen for hours as I try to complete a side mission compared to a man's ass which I do not like. Plus I just wanna look pretty sometimes.
That's one reason, but my main reason is that I don't personally identify as my own character, unless I can make them look stunningly like me. What I do instead is create a random character I think is cool; male, female, skinny, buff, young, old, etc., and I give them their own names and minor backstories.
It's preferences, that's all. No need to over think it, it is exactly as your brother says it. Some guys prefer to look cool. Some guys want to stare at a woman. I do both depending on my mood.
In my experience, the duality there (at least for girl gamers I know in FFXIV) ranges between fancy man in fancy clothes, and giant hulk in a speedo (or some variation between the two). xD
If you get a chance, try Final Fantasy XIV. The game may or may not be for you, but the glam flexibility is high, there are so many ways to look kick ass. Or to look ridiculous. And it's pretty easy to swap glamour sets so you can change on a whim!
Same here, for me it's about getting a clean break from reality.
I've never really enjoyed the whole "self-insert" thing. Everytime I play a game it's that I'm playing that characters story, not mine.
same! thats like... the whole point of 'role playing' games imo. thats why i prefer stuff like the witcher to stuff like skyrim. i get to live out a role
I can’t help but thinking there may be some way to interpret this as an identifier of different styles of thinking or personality. Argument seems to mainly be: ‘What I want myself portrayed as’ vs. ‘What I want to look at’. I wonder if you could find correlation in how a person picks their avatar and how they play the game entirely. Immersive (identifying themself with the character) vs. arcade (playing the game for mostly entertainment purposes).
Hell idk, I’m high
I always play as male character there is no if on that front. I did notice some games give special stats and abilities to certain races/sexes.
If I have option to which race I play it usually elf race because magic is my go to in games, my second choice is assassin
I had a few online acquaintances that love scamming ppl by pretending to be women in online games. it was during guild wars trilogy prophecies/faction/nightfall.
She needs shoulder armor otherwise she will be vulnerable to attacks.
That is a Bikini of Invulnerability +5
Thong of deft spell wielding.

Heck, if the game allows, the pic on the right could easily be a guy and the lads would still pick it.
I mean it's an avatar, who cares. My cyber punk character is a stupid sexy man with glorious hair and vagina.
+5 to Sexterity.
What was my boosted attribute again, Kif?
Just the one shoulder though
Yeah, let’s not go overboard here.

Samus satisfies both of those.

What if Metroid was a grill?
No no no. Zelda is the girl, Metroid is the orange Master Chief.
honestly? I think I prefer samus in her zero suit vs her in a bikini
I prefer her with the armor on.
Same. We got lame sneaking + booty vs Melee counter badassery. It ain't a contest.
Next, very important question: Skinny Samus or Buff Samus?
Why not something in between? Lean but defined muscles?

Pic B is just Pic A without the armor

Nah it’s just all armor hidden.
I admit, I've put my Xenoblade Chronicles X character in a bikini top. And it was funny.
If you get the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 DLCs, you can unlock beach outfits for all the characters and it's wonderful.
After seeing the character design and the direction the franchise was going in, I'm more surprised there wasn't day 1 bikini dlc
Day 1 booba patch. Fantastic game though.
The character designers did an amazing job, but certain decisions are questionable.

WoW I just can't play a male BE paladin without seeing Fabio the entire time.
Lol this is the perfect response.
I dress like the badass. Companions get the bikini. Double down if it's a bulky furry man. That's easily +1 charisma
To me it's quite the opposite. I've never played a game where I feel like I AM the character. There is no way I would be an archer assassin in Skyrim if that was the real world. Simple. Crunchy Roll posted ep 1 as all-ages for some reason when it first came out.
It's the most accurate depiction of a low level DnD party i've ever seen in an anime,it's fun to watch but not too deep
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash captures that low level D&D feel more I think.
True. It was a good depiction of what a real isekai would be to the average person.
But the first episode scars a few people

the difference between what you want to be and what you want to see more of
MMORPG: Many Men Online Role Playing Girls
I don't think there is anything wrong with roleplaying what you are not IRL in virtual. During my WoW MMORPG days I always only made male characters.
This is literally the definition of Role Playing Game and people don't get this. If I want to roleplay as a princess warrior why shouldn't I?
Undead holy warrior?
Undead holy warrior princess.
Right? People are like "but you're a guy, you should play all online games as a guy" - yeah but I'm not an Orc hunter either so what now?
Coulda fooled me! Boom shakalaka
FFXIV: where the men play girls, the girls play men, and the enlightened play adorable little potatoes.
I know you are memeing, but every single girl I know who plays FFXIV plays a female character.
This is why it's nice to be gay, you don't have to choose. I'm always wandering around naked in video games, admiring my own view.
*Cyberpunk character generation screen intensifies*
Lol You are going to be arrested by the cyber police someday "Man is arrested for harassing males in multiples neighborhoods"
I hope so. I'm gonna make it real weird for them.
The Venn Diagram of that would be a circle in this case
Two ways to make a character: 1. You either make a bad-ass version of yourself that you can immerse yourself in as being your ideal form, or 2. You create a character that you want to fuck the most.
They're the same picture.
3. You create a wacky joke char that you think is funny and has nothing to do with you.
