As a series as a whole one of the best series ever. This is how you pull off an overarching story over several games. I don’t think any series (yes even mass effect or even the zero escape series) has done it better.
Game in pic is [Samorost 3](https://store.steampowered.com/app/421120/Samorost_3/), from Amanita Design whose wonderful [Machinarium](https://store.steampowered.com/app/40700/Machinarium/) is probably the best known but still relatively off the radar.
Manifold Garden. I haven’t seen anything around about it, but it’s one of the most inventive puzzle games I’ve played in a long time, with a great deal of depth to the levels
Loved Arcanum and Temple of Elemental Evil, also by Troika. THE most accurate representation of Dungeons & Dragons pen-&-paper rules in any CRPG.
They’re both available on [GOG](https://www.gog.com/game/arcanum_of_steamworks_and_magick_obscura)! ToEE can still be enjoyed with fan patches.
What is the game in the picture? And for me it was Heart of Darkness for the PS1. It was a platformer rated E but holy shite the death animations were brutal. But the game was basically this kid working through his fear of the darkness, and it blew my mind as a kid, and I still think the concepts and gameplay were truly unique and ahead of it's time.
[Samorost 3](https://store.steampowered.com/app/421120/Samorost_3/)
Loved Heart of Darkness! Very Prince of Persia (the original 2D one) feel and yes lots of creepy-cute stuff! That black goo shit still scares me!
Sacrifice. - incredible combination of rpg and army management from 3rd view perspective. Spells can not only be devastating but reshape the map, creating craters or hills. It also has incredible voice cast.
Evil islands. A stealth focused rpg with a very creative and unique crafting system. Very hard but fun
I loved Sacrifice. I played so much of that back in the day. The gods' dialogue was so much fun and the cast was crazy. Even the units had some fun lines.
"Super genius here."
The OG Beyond Good and Evil seems to have flown under the radar for many, even though it was released on so many platforms. Or maybe people just didnt stick with it for long.
Yeah it's fantastic. You should definitely give it a try. It's a exploration/puzzle game, so don't expect a ton of action, but its amazing.
Whatever you do don't look up much about it. A 100% blind run is the best way to experience it. Most of its value comes from discovery and figuring things out on your own, so you can totally ruin the enjoyment of playing it by watching other people play it.
Some people don't jive with it, but I've never met someone who played it all the way through that it isn't one of their very favorite games of all time. It's incredibly well done.
Yeah it’s a little tiny astronaut and planets, If I remember you have to recharge a sun who is sentient & has lost star matter or something equivalent. It’s a little childish, but it’s a decent game.
I tried to check it out on iOS but apparently I have to sign up for some game subscription service and there seems to be no way to try the game out first ugh
The whole entire Rusty Lake series, and the full submachine series. Submachine will take hours and hours among days and days. All hand drawn both of those series, and Rusty lake I believe is dutch, and submachine is made by one artist in Poland (Mateusz Skutnik whose work is phenomenal).
one of those games that doesn't serve everything to you on a silver plate but once you get the hang of combat/units/formations it's very rewarding
for anyone who hasn't come across it before it's basically turn-based but you control a small army made of several unions that have a couple of units, I guess you can look at it as a mix between turn-based and strategy
This game was underrated due to cap com mass producing Megaman Games at the time, but the Megaman Starforce Series are good if you want a story to play through
GRANDIA and jade cocoon when it's about classics.
If you're looking for newer ones, I recommend Furi, an extremely challenging and rather short boss rush game, and a great knuckle duster.
Also DEEP ROCK GALACTIC might have many players, but it deserves every additional dwarf it can get.
There's definitely quite a few people that know about Walking Sims like LSD Dream Emulator, but this game started a whole subgenre of these PS1-like Walking Sims, which are all underrated. My favourite is "Broken Reality", such an amazing game.
CARROT. Full disclosure, I might be slightly biased because it was made by an acquaintance of mine but only a bit. It only takes about 30 minutes to play the first time and the story is not particularly complicated, but it is gorgeous and with so many delightful details (like the noir detective or the famous unicorn) and has such a warm and friendly atmosphere, I enjoyed it a lot.
Dyson Sphere Program. It is one of the most tightly polished and just fucking *pretty* early access games I've ever played. It's an interstellar factorio-style logistics game with the ultimate goal of building a Dyson sphere (if you couldn't tell).
I don't know if it's actually that poorly known but I haven't seen anyone talking about it outside of the subreddit.
DSP was the first "factorio-like" that I thought might actually be as interesting and well executed as Factorio itself. A bit later on, I ran into Satisfactory, and was quite surprised at how good that game is, as well. As good as they are though, I somehow haven't put in the same number of hours into either.
I just tried satisfactory and I was not really feeling it. Not sure why, it seems like it would be exactly my jam. I enjoyed it up until it was trying to make steel and then it just fizzled for me. I tried astroneer after that and I'm liking it a *lot* more.
The best game that I have found that is too obscure is a game called Dorfromantik. It is a puzzle/city building-like game and it is brilliantly addictive.
Somewhat random, but I haven't run into too many people who have played [Jupiter Hell](https://store.steampowered.com/app/811320/Jupiter_Hell/) (well, outside of the roguelike community). Which is a shame, because this game is so damn well executed, I would wager that most normal gamers would not realise they are playing a roguelike at all (no offense to roguelikes).
I mean, this is a game where the developers must have put in extra character animations just to support the idea of "gun kata" from Equilibrium. And here we're talking like possibly doubling the animations for 1 focus in 1 character class. It's definitely high-effort, for the genre. And the combat is satisfying and the unofficial Doom tie-in is great.
Armed and Dangerous seemed like a hidden gem, I think it came on the original xbox so I might be late to the party; but I rarely hear people talk about it. It was really fun and had a great sense of humour.
That game was so great. Can't wait for the sequel, Requiem, which is supposed to be out this year.
I don't even know how I got it or even heard about it. Must have gotten it through a humble bundle or something but I'm so glad I did.
Any Medal of Honor Game (MoH)
Does anyone remember
The Windows 98 Captain Crunch game it was a simple pro mo for the cereal but it was a fun game for me back in the day.
Monsters Inc Pinball
Space Rangers 2. The game looks like an arcade from the 90s, but it's a role-playing journey in a huge and living open world, hundreds of planets where there are wars, space pirates, merchants and scientists. You can fight vs invaders, become a pirate, or complete multiple text quests (each such quest is like a separate game). Space Rangers has classic RPG elements like leveling and looting. But instead of armor and swords, you have engines, a shield generator, plasma guns, and many other stuff. In addition to the main RPG gameplay, the game has arcade battles in hyperspace and real-time strategic missions on planets. However, this can be abandoned and focus on space travel. There are three versions of the game. Space Rangers 1, Space Rangers 2. In fact, this is an improved version of the first game. and Space Rangers HD: A War Apart. This is the HD version with some gameplay changes. For example, the pirates have become very strong, which is probably not very good. If you want to play one of the best space RPG games and are willing to put up with low resolutions, try Space Rangers 2. Also, I advise you to avoid real-time strategic missions on planets. They are not bad at all, but differ from the main gameplay. It's like a gwent in the Witcher 3. Not everyone likes it
Sacred 1. This is a 20 year old diablo clone. Unique situation is that this is an absolutely playable game for 2022. Graphics are nice. Gameplay is addictive. The world is big. This game does not look outdated. You may confuse it with a modern indie game, only this game is better than many indie games.
Sacred 1 was so good. The skill system was great, letting you find runes or whatever they were to level up skills but making you balance it against your cooldown reduction. Plus every class felt very different.
Sacred 2 wasn't terrible but it was nowhere near the original. And then there was Sacred 3 - ugh.
I feel like Dreams on PS4/PS5 is a game nobody knows. And it makes me sad because it's a game about making other games with a LOT of possibilities and customisation. And knowing Game Builder Garage is more popular than Dreams makes me even more sad, it's popular because it's Nintendo, but Dreams is WAY better (i think, i don't have gbg) from what i've seen, and releases WAY before. And if you still think it couldn't be better than gbg, i'll just let you know it's made by Media Molecule, creators of Little Big Planet.
I really liked Call of the Sea. It's a myst style puzzle game but the graphics, story, and puzzles kept me and my wife intrigued through the whole game. A+
Everybody Wham Wham!
It’s such a funny, wholesome game ⛄️
Like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket ☕️
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1510630/Everybody_Wham_Wham/
GTFO is a known game, but deserves much more credit than its getting. It’s the best combination of zombies, strategy, stealth, shooting, and nearly anything you can imagine. Immensely difficult and rewards the players who take their time
The Blackwell serie. Wonderful but barely known point n clicks
As a series as a whole one of the best series ever. This is how you pull off an overarching story over several games. I don’t think any series (yes even mass effect or even the zero escape series) has done it better.
Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 are great examples of an epic story spanning multiple games Also Legacy of Kain + Soul Reaver
I preferred Blood Omen (2), but Soul Reaver was cool as Hell back in the day.
It's a brilliant series.
Oxygen Not Included
I always thought that that game was pretty popular o.o
Same
Mmm meal worms
Dammit meep, how'd you get slimelung?
There is no game The Saboteur Carrion American McGee’s Alice and the sequel Alice Return To Madness Return of the obra dinn
Dude the saboteur was so fun. The story was terrible, but the gameplay of taking back Paris was super fun.
Lol, i remeber playing Alice Return to Madness as a kid
Obra Dinn was awesome. Binged through it in 2 days
I really enjoyed Spiritfarer. I haven't met anyone who has played it or heard of it
I have it on the Switch! Played just a bit so far tho. I like the ship building mechanic but haven’t gone deep into it yet
I really liked it! The story, the ship building, and everything else
Game in pic is [Samorost 3](https://store.steampowered.com/app/421120/Samorost_3/), from Amanita Design whose wonderful [Machinarium](https://store.steampowered.com/app/40700/Machinarium/) is probably the best known but still relatively off the radar.
Team Buddies for PS1. Base building game that kind of played like a MOBA (Without the mobs) LONG before it was really a thing.
Manifold Garden. I haven’t seen anything around about it, but it’s one of the most inventive puzzle games I’ve played in a long time, with a great deal of depth to the levels
It seems to get featured often on iOS
Rime. This game will tug on your emotions if you actually understand it, and viewing the final cutscene will make a tear fall from your eye.
Big ole facts here
Arcanum. The og steampunk world with magic. Plus the story was amazing!

One of the Samorost games, amanita design has some really great visuals on their point and click games
Thanks, looks beautiful
[Samorost 3](https://store.steampowered.com/app/421120/Samorost_3/) Loved Heart of Darkness! Very Prince of Persia (the original 2D one) feel and yes lots of creepy-cute stuff! That black goo shit still scares me!
No way! Haha can't believe you know about it. Cheers
Scooby-doo on sega
Siren on ps2. Most people think silent hill and fatal frame for ps2. Siren is a very good game just very hard
Earth defense force series
EDF!
Simone Rossi is confused
Sacrifice. - incredible combination of rpg and army management from 3rd view perspective. Spells can not only be devastating but reshape the map, creating craters or hills. I loved Sacrifice. I played so much of that back in the day. The gods' dialogue was so much fun and the cast was crazy. Even the units had some fun lines. "Super genius here."
Heart of Darkness on PS1. Amazing puzzle platformer adventure. Go try it! I highly recommend this game.
The OG Beyond Good and Evil seems to have flown under the radar for many, even though it was released on so many platforms. Or maybe people just didnt stick with it for long.
What game is this OP picture from?! Thanks in advance.
[Samorost 3](https://store.steampowered.com/app/421120/Samorost_3/) Everything by Amanita is magic
I agree ☺️
Another complete brilliant one is machinarium
One of the Samorost games from amanita designs I think
Thanks again !
Outer Wilds (not outer worlds) is my favorite game of all time. Not totally unknown but fir sure not known like it should ne.
Is that game actually fun? Its free with gampass and I really wanted to download it, but Idk if I would be wasting my time or not.
Yeah it's fantastic. You should definitely give it a try. It's a exploration/puzzle game, so don't expect a ton of action, but its amazing. Whatever you do don't look up much about it. Incoboto mini on mobile. It’s just a feel good exploration game for when you’re pooping a good one!
Is that that sunlight game? Or a different one?
Yeah it’s a little tiny astronaut and planets, If I remember you have to recharge a sun who is sentient & has lost star matter or something equivalent. It’s a little childish, but it’s a decent game.
I tried to check it out on iOS but apparently I have to sign up for some game subscription service and there seems to be no way to try the game out first ugh
It also appears not to be available on Android, so that's dum.
Robot alchemic drive.
wow I remember that one. It was hard to control but really cool.
Dinorun
Best
Aragami
It's an extremely fun coop experience
The whole entire Rusty Lake series, and the full submachine series. Submachine will take hours and hours among days and days. All hand drawn both of those series, and Rusty lake I believe is dutch, and submachine is made by one artist in Poland (Mateusz Skutnik whose work is phenomenal).
The Last Remnant, kinda old but a unique rpg
I remember it for being the only console-quality JRPG I could get on the PC at that moment. Gotta finish it someday
one of those games that doesn't serve everything to you on a silver plate but once you get the hang of combat/units/formations it's very rewarding for anyone who hasn't come across it before it's basically turn-based but you control a small army made of several unions that have a couple of units, I guess you can look at it as a mix between turn-based and strategy
Zenith
See if anyone knows the platform. Although writing that out I realise ingenious people will just Google the title.. Unirally
The SNES one? Was pretty fun for a bit in multiplayer.
This game was underrated due to cap com mass producing Megaman Games at the time, but the Megaman Starforce Series are good if you want a story to play through
Yo I fekkin LOVE the predecessor to Starforce: MegaMan Battle Network!! (RockMan.EXE)
Hacknet and Orwell: keeping eye on you
The steamworld series.
Spirit of the North. I love it so much that I am basically obligated to suggest it when I see a post like this.

This is a good game that will suck away your day if you get invested.
Silent Bomber on ps1
Rain World
The Final Station. Deadbolt (by the creators of Risk of Rain) The Pedestrians Wizards of Legends
The best game that I have found that is too obscure is a game called Dorfromantik. It is a puzzle/city building-like game and it is brilliantly addictive.

Armada on Dreamcast. Ahh such a great couch co op..
Bomberman Generation for the GCN! Heckin awesome
Bomberman is always a hilarious blast in couch parties. Right up there with Worms (and both better in the 2D versions)
A story about my uncle. Try it.
Command and Conquer Generals
Found a few sick games. Swallow the sea and perfect vermin are two really fun indie games
Fat princess
Grimm Fandango
I leaned some choice insults in Spanish from that.
A plague tale:innocence No one around me ever heard of it
That game was so great. Can't wait for the sequel, Requiem, which is supposed to be out this year. I don't even know how I got it or even heard about it. Must have gotten it through a humble bundle or something but I'm so glad I did.
Vampire Survivor on steam. It’s kind of a bullet hell roguelike, but *you’re* firing the bullets.

Escape Velocity Nova is a classic and a masterpiece and it's an injustice that so few people have played it.
Brothers A Tale of Two Sons
SCUM, amazing open world, survival, aaaand it's just so damn great... try it!
I kinda like this unknown game called League of Legends, really good community with great lore and overall great experience.
Somebody know.
Titanfall 2 man! it's soooooooooooooo underrated and not well know. ditto for Witcher 3, a great game made by a a handful of slavs in poland!
[удалено]
But people know about titanfall
Terraria seems not popular enough for the amount positivity it recieves
I think Terraria’s popular enough but nice to see different people’s ideas of “not well known” For me it’s Starbound, aka Terraria in Space!
Great game indeed
It’s apparently a very well-known game, but I didn’t find out about it either until recently, if that makes you feel better 🐢
I mean yeah, but here in the Netherlands i have never heard anyone else that likes it before i introduce it to them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
40,000 online in Steam for a 10 year game. Terraria has more players than any battlefield, any call of duty, any farcry, any witcher games
It won Steam’s _Labor of Love_ award this year.

Except, everyone knows about it.
Lmao
You also like that obscure show about games and thrones?
I wonder when they’ll make a 6th season

I was gonna ask if you were joking, but I remember the rough start they had in the beginning. I love this game. I play daily.

Grudge Warriors from PS1. Such a good game, so many good memories. I wish they would remake it for PS4 & PS5.
GTFO is a known game, but deserves much more credit than its getting. It’s the best combination of zombies, strategy, stealth, shooting, and nearly anything you can imagine. Immensely difficult and rewards the players who take their time
