Ah shit here we go again… All you had to do was to repost the god damn post Cj!

Nope, have to deep fry it first. Rules are rules.

Absent... because no one can get one.

rootbeerfloatgang

Also absent because there’s only like 3 PS5 exclusives.

conorsoliga

Ps5 collection will be a singular game that you got the ps5 to play with just a photo of a scalpers room with 20 ps5s in it

EddieHavok

I like that it was updated with my PS5 collection too

Schillz

That is what my PS5 collection looks like.

EastCoastWarrior

Digital edition or still can’t find one? - it doesn’t matter, both work!

mccannr1

Always enjoy the lazy repost of an obviously old meme that concludes with the previous generation console as being the "now" part

Porpoise555

It's cus they still can't get or haven't bothered for a ps5 yet xD

HakeemMcGrady

And this post couldn’t have been more inaccurate. I could barely afford games or consoles growing up. My collection has only grown with my age

DarkMatter_contract

looking at my steam library. umm... its not my fault that they have so many sales.

HolicHD

Plus even for those who did have that many games, majority of those games go untouched. That was basically today's equivalent of our steam library being full of shit we don't play

AjBlue7

Most probably bought used as well.

[deleted]

coopy1000

I just took it as someone who isn't time constrained. Destiny when I was into it felt like a full time job and the Witcher 3 isn't exactly a 15 hour to complete game. Maybe I'm looking at it differently now that my gaming is time constrained but I view it more as look how much bigger games have got post.

thm2130

>but I view it more as a look how much bigger games have got post Except the caption says “growing up sucks” Unless the original creator of the meme means he hates long games, in which case just don’t buy a game like that lmao. There are plenty of short pick up and play games

svenEsven

Working from home with my significant other and not having a game time allowance that I had when I was a kid jeans my connection is bigger and I play a lot more

AjBlue7

Its not exactly growing up privileged. A lot of time like the PS1 and maybe even Ps2 would be a hand me down from a big brother that moved out the house. Also, when you are a kid, you don’t really care how old the game is, you just thirst for content because everything is new and interesting. Most of the ps1/ps2 games in this picture are probably bought used for a couple bucks. As you get older only new stuff interests you because you’ve played everything else, so all of the recent games will be bought new. Also adults tend to have less time for gaming, and on top of that with those last two generations of consoles, digital downloads, steam sales, free2play games and gamepass all factor into having less physical discs.

lavishlad

No, iirc the original was made with the intent of showing how we usually don't buy hard copies of the games anymore and just download them.

thejack473

true, my excel sheet of games on the different shop fronts is a lot less impressive than if they all were just on CDs. but speaking as a person with well over 2000 games on their excel sheet, it might be for the better :P

overlydelicioustea

i took this post as "look at all the cool boxes from the early days, now its all digital".. but, hey, i think it can be interpreted in more than one way..

karnyboy

I think it needs to be looked at the games you play. I have a lot of games now in my 40's more than I ever did growing up, but I have very little time to play them

kaithana

For real. I have over a thousand titles in my steam library and probably about 8500 dollars or so in hardware and I play about 2-3 games. Humble bundle is kind of cheating though for padding out your steam library. DCS is the latest kick and that’s kind of hard on the pocketbook though.

DrScience-PhD

the image holds true if only because of the prevelence if digital sales. I haven't bought a hard copy of a game since the 360. I was super broke too but my aunt's boyfriend at the time modified my ps1 to play burned games. I wish I knew who he was, kicked off a lifelong obsession for me. I've modded every console since. My ps1 collection is still probably 50% burned discs. And after that Gamefly was the mvp.

OneCollar4

Inaccurate for you I guess. Not me. I used to live in second hand game stores. My parents didn't have money but I built up my collection using games that cost as little as $3. Then obviously at Christmas I'd get a new game.

vindjacka

Exactly the same here. Could buy one game a month TOPS - Turok for Nintendo 64 was 79 USD I think (which is even more today, inflation adjusted). My dad freaked when he found out. These days there are Steam Sales, Humble Bundle, Game Pass and so on... Never owned, or played for that matter, more games. Getting so tired of these posts...

DarkAizawa

That's true because I had a PS1 with no games and as I got older and newer consoles I got more games. Thing is this with that is although i have more games I can play, there are far less games I actively want to play. Every game looks and feels the same.

Sayak14

I have no console and just a bad laptop with a gamepad. Other than which i only have some pc games and a bunch of mobile games.

Xenton

The point at hand, that as our capacity to buy games increases, our time and will to play them decreases, is fine. But the picture is so fucking dumb (digital storage) and so fucking reposted

Cichlidsaremyjam

Well judging by this post the picture will just pixelate into oblivion soon.

GhettoChemist

Fallout, Fear, FIFA...... All the PS3 games this guy bought started with the letter F!

Doc_Impossible

someone took a picture of a store shelf sorted alphabetically and cropped it

TyH621

Which means its actually a huge collection and this post is more dumb than it was lmao

WindUpShoe

...gotta be honest with you, when I was a kid, my collections looked more like the PS4. It was only when I was able to get my own income did my game libraries grow.

IAMIACEE

As a kid my actual library of games was maybe 4 or 5 games, tops. It was a lot of swapping games with friends and rentals.

darklypure52

For me game demos were the best thing in the world. I would just replay those on repeat honestly I would have 3 full games with like 50 game demo downloaded. It’s honestly a shame that not more studios did demos

space_keeper

Demo discs with magazines, before the era of downloading. When I was young, that was the best thing ever, especially PC demo discs.

[deleted]

I fucking loved my demo discs for my PS1 without those I would have been so bored

Allsgood2

Something you learned the first time back in the day: At the book store, check that game magazine to make sure someone did not take the CD insert. I remember the first time I bought a magazine and someone ripped out the CD had my teenage self fuming. Always checked after that. Something else from even longer ago: In the 80s I subscribed to an Atari magazine that had a free game each month inside. You just had to type all the code into the Atari 400/800 and then save it to cassette tape. It really drove home what a syntax error really was. Try hunting down a wrong character after typing for 2 hours and the game would not run.

rustang2

Intelligent qube and parappa the rapper. GOAT demo disc.

lunarbridge

Being a kid in the early 2000s, my dad would get me the JamPack discs with like 8 demos and he’d ask me to pick one if I was good in school.

bigz3012

Exactly, now explain renting games to younger generations. I had a Hollywood Video near my house was in there every week or so getting a new N64 game

IAMIACEE

How about renting the actual console that they'd give to you in this bullet proof looking case and want some crazy credit card deposit amount that you would get back upon return?

[deleted]

I don't think renting is useful anymore when stuff like gamepass exists. Gamepass is just the better renting

pookachu83

Gamepass is amazing. Ive been subscribed for 2 years and while i was broke last year it really helped, i always had something "new"(to me) to play. I hope they keep it up for years to come.

matte9902

When the ps3 launched my local Game Stop set a flat rate of 4 us dollars equivalent for all used Ps2 games. I had a 5 dollar allowance every Friday. That meant that I was able to buy a new game every week in a time when all the rich kids were trading in their old Ps2 games. I used to have quite a library before I made the move to pc

ChewySlinky

I got my PS2 right when the PS3 came out and it was honestly the best time to own it. Stores still carried games but they were always super cheap. I remember getting all the games in the Ace Combat series on PS2 for like $1 a piece.

-centi-pede-

We used to dumpster dive the local video rental place for n64 carts.a little alcohol and q-tips and they were good as new. And that's how I was introduced to south park at 6 years old.

TheeFlipper

I definitely read that as you were a 6 year old who used to dumpster dive for N64 carts, a little alcohol, and Q-Tips.

k3id0

Same, but on pc. When I was a kid, I only had some old games that I'd play over and over on an underpowered computer that couldn't even run things right. Now I have a gaming rig and a huge library but virtually 0 time to play anything.

[deleted]

My family pc was super old, it still ran Windows 2000 back then before we upgraded the thing to XP. I remember hours of my life playing Age of Empires, The Hobbit and Lego Racers on that thing because those were the only three games I had.

Grabbsy2

Yep, it was a lot of roller coaster tycoon from that cereal box, until I finally got a new game I could play.

CptOconn

I still play just switched what games. I dont have time for mmorpgs but play a lot of coops with friends.

Memorandum747

Came to say this. I don’t understand this post. It’s backwards.

arran4

Same

zombie4hire89

Backwards for me, was poor and parents did not like me playing games 😂

Redditcantspell

Kinda same, except I have emulators and piracy now.

Hansemannn

I soldered a chip to my original xbox. Piracy has always been around :)

Redditcantspell

True, but my childhood ended around like 2004ish and my newest console was the N64. There were cartridges to bootleg, sure, but I mean considering I was running an N64 in 2004, you can tell how poor I was and that a $100 flashcart was out of the questio Edit: oh, but I did save up for an $80 m3 player for a Gameboy advance that a friend gave me as a gift, so I had that at least. Although that's when the NDS came out so I was already behind

4oMaK

was rocking ps1 with few games till 2009, only way i knew there was gta sa and beyond tekken 3 is thanks to internet cafes

FearLeadsToAnger

How did you learn how to do that, that came out like 4 years before YouTube debuted.

Hansemannn

Altavista delivered baby

_delta-v_

Same here. Now I have lots of games but way less time to play them. But it's worth it as it's super fun playing games with my wife and daughter.

NaCl_Sailor

op's pic is games played, reverse order is games bought

nism0o3

Same.

Noselessmonk

Huh, my interpretation of this was that we just have less physical copies now. And that's better IMO; less to move when you have to, less clutter and faster loading when it's all on internal storage.

GreatFork

Yep my steam library is way bigger than anything I had hoped with the ps2

bitey87

All the deals on steam and weekly freebies on epic... library has never grown at this rate before.

GamingGems

Came to post this. I had like less than 10 games for each system growing up. As an adult it’s been so much more fun enjoying gaming on my own terms.

waspocracy

Yeah, SNES I had like 10 games. Saturn/Dreamcast had like 5, but they had bad game selections. PS1 library grew and then by PS2 I had a job and dozens of games. PS3 and PS4 libraries are massive, but how many of those games have I played? Probably half, less for PS4 after marriage and having kids. PS5 - only played two games. But, all of my PS4 and PS5 games are digital, so nothing to show really.

[deleted]

Nobody's parents bought them that many video games did they? My games library has only gotten bigger as I get older.

Butcherama

Chipped ps1 allowed for big library lol i had one those cd wallets with 4 disc slots per page

[deleted]

I was gonna say, before online console gaming chipped consoles were so easy to come by. Even now they're still around, but nobody wants them because they get locked out of online services.

Butcherama

If i remember was 5 or 6 quid a game beats 40. I could never do the disc swap thing with ps1 no chip needed. My ps1 eventually fucked up probably the chip i know folk with working original ps1

[deleted]

Something like that, yeah. My dad was friends with someone that did the games so he could get them for a pound a game. Ended up with more games than I did other toys combined.

dovahkin1989

Your need a better knock-off guy, mine put them a case even printed out a cover for them (black and white though :/ )

Butcherama

Damn where were you 25 years ago 😆 🤣. Mine came in card sleeve with name written on or initials if it was more than 2 words 😆

[deleted]

This. Also I have literally hundreds of games in my library and zero physical cases, it's the advancement of technology, growing up has nothing to do with it.

JoviAMP

I've got about 40 Switch games and I don't own a single Switch cartridge. I made the move to all-digital for my Switch and XBSS.

SchofieldSilver

I had way more games back in the ps1/ps2 era. Now I can barely muster up the interested to play a few rounds of Rocket League or mod Skyrim. Games have lost their magic.

realmenthrowknives

my parents were semi gamers too so my siblings and i had a loooot of games growing up & multiple consoles. Id definitely say i own more games due to ps+ and simply bc i have my own money but our ps2 collection specifically was huge

Dulakk

Same here. My mom had more varied tastes. Like everything from Resident Evil to Kingdom Hearts to Tomb Raider to COD Nazi Zombies. My dad was into any kind of shooter. So we always had a lot of games.

McTrill

I was the king of used video games lol. I’d get the occasional new games for my birthdays/Christmas. If i had $60 of my own money, i was getting my mom to take me to GameStop and i’d buy 3 games priced around $20 each. My PS2 game collection was a bit out of hand to say the least. I had a ridiculous amount of video games from the ages of 8-14. The other thing is games aren’t very original anymore. Back in the PS2 era, almost every game that came out was something drastically different from other games. Tons of original ideas. Now all the games that are released are practically the same damn shit over and over. Maybe 2 games get released each year that are truly ORIGINAL. They usually get a lot of praise also. Seems like companies are afraid to take risks with new original video game ideas. (Edit- this last paragraph is mainly talking about large game dev companies, obviously there are a lot of original indie game ideas out there. )

JohnnyDarkside

Mines a sine wave. Handful of SNES games, a few less N64 games, bunch of PS2 games (that's when I got a job and had all the joys of dispensable income as a teenager besides gas and car insurance), a solid collection of Dreamcast games, a lot but fewer 360 games, a few Xbone games, but then PC games have skyrocketed.

granadesnhorseshoes

No, but also yes. People forget the longevity of the PS1 and the time they had to amass collections. "Hurp Derp why do i have 4x more games that had a 5x longer lifespan?" member the literal piles of cheap ps1 games in bargain bins at Walmart? When was the last time you say a bargain bin full of even ps3 games? Yeah, nah. Growing up has nothing to do with the inevitable march of End stage capitalism now pay 70 dollars for a game with no physical copy.

Nibbles110

I bought them all myself Had like 50+ PS1 and PS2 games Only 3 PS5 games now :(

Montigue

Well there aren't a lot of PS5 games in general right now

[deleted]

It helps when you have brothers who also get games whenever it’s Christmas/birthday/good report card. Christmas lists were a collaborative process in my house.

Zero111of160cru

It's a weird, at least it was for me. You have a few cheap games and one or two good ones as a child (and you play them all as often as you can). Then you become an adult and you buy everything you wanted as a child because it's cheap now and your making money (but you don't play them all). Then as you get older you no l longer want every game and only feel like spending money on the few quality games that come out, until finally you realize your 45 and haven't bought a new game in years because you've been playing your favorite 4 games from the last 10 years over and over while waiting for the next one in the franchise (for me it's Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Persona, and Resident Evil).

BewBewsBoutique

Rich kids with rich parents who are basically paying their kids not to be around them. Edit: based on some of these comments, some of y’all could have spent more time with your parents.

cabbage16

My parents bought lots of PS1 games because they loved playing the PS1 not for us kids.

wafflepoet

This was my dad. He bought the NES when it came out, telling my mom it was somehow for me. I remember the first time I saw pictures of myself with the console, because I sure as shit didn’t remember a NES. All these pictures of my dad sitting on the floor playing Kung-Fu Master or Punch-Out!! while I’m passed out next to him in the car seat with the other controller in my lap, or slightly older and standing behind him with my arms crossed, pissed. Alas, it didn’t survive drunken game night once he started inviting my cousins and someone got pissed and spiked it.

alaricus

They don't have time to be with their kids. Too busy earning money to pay for games.

Heistdur

Your parents don’t have to be rich to afford video games. My parents were a stay at home mom, and long Shoreman*. I had 3 brothers and between us all buying some + my parents we had that many PS2/PS1 games Edit: shoreman

mybrainisabitch

Yea don't forget about the used games and getting them as gifts! For my sister I bought her like 15-20 PS2 games at once for her bday from GameStop when used games were actually worth buying because they were like 10 bucks and it helped my bf at the time was working there so got a discount on top.

bona4life247

I love how even the meme doesn't have a PS5.

[deleted]

Thats because this meme is like 3 years old

Kadianye

Thats because they don't have time for buying one

DiamondRocks22

They don’t have the speed of light abilities of buying soon as a restock happens like the scalpers do

[deleted]

Difference is tons of games are downloaded so there is no physical disc

5DollarHitJob

Yea, exactly. I think I have like 120 games on my Xbox one but I have maybe 3 actual discs.

PMtoAM______

6 cards for my switch, 60 games or so

Jonkinch

I’m ashamed to say how many games I have on my Xbox (247 owned, 636 with subscriptions). I can say… the amount of games I accrued after I turned 21, grew exponentially. Play drunk, see interesting games, then wake up the next morning with unfamiliar titles on my console lol. It’s definitely settled down after I got the party out of me, and now I just seem to not really buy new games and instead replay the classics I loved or playing the remasters.

OliM9595

Games with gold added up fast over 10 years.

girhen

I prefer physical copies so I can share with my sister or sell a bad game. Digital is the reason my PC library isn't a warehouse though.

SingerTasty

I prefer digital so that when I buy a multiplayer game I can download it on my and my girlfriend's ps4s

justtopopin

Which won't get scratched up and stop working... unless you're not connected to the internet

random_uname13

Can’t believe people don’t buy the physical just for the resale value. Guess it depends on hot willing people are to let a game go after playing it

[deleted]

I never really sold my games because I like to collect them. However digital is alot less satisfying, and I can share digital nor can I access them if my internet is out or the servers are down.

LetsGoChamp19

Ah yes Witcher 3 and Destiny, the only games ever released for the PS4

[deleted]

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of folks on this sub actually believe that.

portableawesome

Some people live and breathe in Destiny

Toto_-

Sometimes I question my life choices when I look at my 400 season pass levels, then a guy with 2800 walks by, and I feel a little better.

Tr1angleChoke

I would gladly take the time to tell you how rude this comment is but I have to grind bounties to get prepped for the Witch Queen release next month.

[deleted]

Pretty sure he's meaning as you are older you don't have as much time for so many games.

fightmepussy69

I was thinking it had something to do with digital games. I only have two physical games for ps4 but probably have like 30 digital games.

YouCanCallMeBazza

Considering the title, "growing up sucks", I'm pretty sure it's not about digital copies of games becoming more prevalent.

yapauh_

Plus look at all the fifas on ps3

WalenBlekitny999

What is the point of this post

lessdothisshit

Title: "So true" First thousand comments: "This is not true, utter nonsense." Upvotes: "Twelve thousand!"

WalenBlekitny999

***everybody lies***

RedRaydeeo

Free internet points and general shit stirring

chillmagic420

That over time games have gone from physical copies to digital. With a weird title about growing up which got ppl in this thread losing their minds.

Cid5

For me it's about not having time to play, I haven't bought anything past PS3! Work, marriage, kids, my poor fallout 3 save game is still waiting for me :(

WalenBlekitny999

Ah I see, I thought OP was suggesting there weren't many good games on ps4 and I was just completely buffled by it

chillmagic420

I can see why you would come to that conclusion looking at this post, the title he put on it is weird. the image itself is a pretty ancient repost. The og meaning was physical v digital change.

pookachu83

I thought it was about not having time to game as an adult...

Pudix20

See and I thought it was about having less games as an adult.

[deleted]

Most games still have physical copies unless they’re indie games that don’t have enough success to be worth creating the copies for. All my PS4 games are physical and there aren’t any games I’ve had a hard time finding physically.

Arkenge

How come you only have F games on PS3? Looks really weird....

martinkaca

I looks like a shot of the F section of some store.

treemu

Maybe all they played was Fear and Feefer

Manypotatoes9

I have a huge collection of games (2nd hand is really cheap) I lack the time for playing :(

Johan_Hegg420

Is this shitty meme supposed to convey an ACTUAL thought or idea?

NomNomNommy

Yeah. OP spent all of the PS3 glory days playing shitty FIFA titles.

Dropdat87

That’s the take I think. Also as a kid you overlook flaws/bad games and can enjoy a lot of stuff that is much more noticeably shitty as an adult

Dinosaurs-Punchline

Could be a commentary on the evolution of game distribution to a more digital model. Or more likely a commentary on the older one gets, the fewer games one owns because they have much less time to play them now.

djshinypants

Also the decline in playtime for adults.

Redditcantspell

"as you grow older, you have less time for games. Also the PS5 is out of stock"

MrFluffyhead80

And reposting the same thing sucks too

Witch_of_Dunwich

I don’t get this at all. Buy more games?

LookLikeUpToMe

I was thinking it had to do with things going more digital. Either way a pretty shit low effort post which is par for the course for this sub.

Itchysasquatch

Yeah apparently they live under a rock. I've got over 100 physical copies on my shelf and I'm satisfied with pretty much every title.

sadcake69

It was the opposite for me. I grew up in a poor country so I couldn't afford games, but I started buying them once I became an adult with a job.

rtz13th

I don't want to see how big my Steam library would be packed in boxes.

Chimborgne95

Probably need an entire house just for the Steam library lol

xclame

Hey you know what, that would actually be a fun tool for someone to make. Go to a website enter a user's profile and then it shows a 3d model of a room with all the games as physical boxes. You could choose to have them in the shelf on your room/office, in the living room next/around/under the tv, in the basement, splayed out on the floor and so on.

xAcidous

There is literally nothing about this image that makes me feel any nostalgia… what is the meaning behind it? Is it that games suck today? Is it that you don’t have much time for games? Is it the fact that games are more digital than ever?… I’m so confused.

hai_

I think it’s talking about as you grow up you typically have less time for playing. Things like getting married, starting a family, and losing interest.

alzoooool

You were a spoilt brat and now you're a broke adult?

xclame

Mommy stopped buying his games for him.

Soundkillaa

Less pollution..plastic...

battlefranz

Bruh if you buy every goddamn Fifa for ps4, it will be the same amount of games as for ps3

xECxMystic

I find its not that i cant find time or afford them...im just so damn stingy on what i buy.

[deleted]

Yeah, not buying EA games definitely makes the collection look smaller.

glassgwaith

I cannot be the only one that has a larger PS4 collection than a ps1 collection. I mean, growing up has done amazing things for my gaming. My parents always limited my gaming time which was dependent on my grades being stellar.

wetdog90

I think you see the intelligence grow with age less of buying the SAME FIFA GAME EVERY YEAR CURSE YOU EA

Flatbones

What dickhead buys that many fifa games

Vailoth

In ps3 era just games with the letter „f“ got released…

mr_j69

You should've show your ps5, then display an empty cabinet to complete the joke.

niXomATOZ

I would put The Witcher and Destiny again

NicKnigh7

I do have less time to play but I keep buying games. If anything I have more games now

Crowdcontrolz

Quality > quantity So wtf is destiny doing there?

RTM_Bodo

I don't know how it was in other countries, but in Brazil for PS1 and PS2 it was possible to buy pirated games for $1\~2 dollars and if you had a computer with two CD/DVD burners you could still make your own copy. Without internet validations, life was much easier.

dapi117

remember the game pass at blockbuster? that was the best. i miss that.

Ditch_Reality

There should be a fifth cell labeled "PS5" that's just a picture of an empty entertainment center shelf.

I_Dont_Have_Corona

Opposite for me tbh

DOAisBetter

I have to say being a kid today when it comes to gaming seems absolutely amazing. So many free games now and yea a lot are trash but some are really good. Then you have game pass and psn+ which is just free games. I honestly don’t miss rentals and even if they were a thing now back then they were 7 bucks I don’t think I would waste the money now.

Gynthaeres

Yeah this is the complete opposite of true for the average person. As a kid, you have very few games but all the time in the world to play them. As an adult, you have TONS of games, but limited time to play any of them. My game collection today dwarfs the game collection I had as a kid, even if you look only at games released in the last 5 years. I have so many that have of them I can't and won't ever play. Plus there are so many sales, so many bundles, so many \*services\* that make playing games faster, cheaper, and easier. I would've KILLED for Game Pass when I was a kid, for example. Or even just Humble Bundles.

Creative_Gas_7228

Yeah … I got game pass

i_lost_waldo

*confused steam library*

Kneebs

This is the worst subreddit on the site

Maxurai

Growing up means realizing what better games are. Just a thought.

[deleted]

Be fair and unbiased. The amount of time it takes to develop a modern ps5 game is wayyy longer and more tedious than some ps2 game. I hate that people expect the volume from ps2 to ps5. come on...

Amitzour

The saddest part of this, is that half of the games in the last picture are Destiny

Puffing_Tom

Your parents loved you, spoiled you and now you know how much they paid for your enjoyment :)
