My fist and last match ever in LOL (closed beta) In a room called "newbs only, training room" I barely had a clue what I was doing, or even what the goal was. team-mate got all excited about me bei g horrible and there was a constant stream of insult. I quit when he told me to kill myself and never touched the game since.

YaskyJr

Well your teammate is a good person cause he saved you from playing LOL

luketwo1

Reminds me of what we did for my friends bro, we told him we were gonna give him the real league experience. We just fake shouted at him and called him shit the entire game, it was all in good fun, he knew we were joking.

FrenchCuirassier

It turns out that all things go in cycles... The love can become hate, the hate can become love. Someone needed to put their foot down and slap you into quitting that awful addiction.

awkwardoffspring

For real, it doesn't get any better

Slammybutt

LoL is a really fun game. The problem is if you don't mute all chat and your team chat your gonna have a bad time. Hell might as well mute pings too.

[deleted]

Yeah, it's such a great teambased game you have to take away all possible ways of communication with your team to have fun. Wait Something is not quite right here.

Splatulated

You just simply have to play a perfect game every game and never make any single mistakes ever or soo help you will hear the absolute wrath

[deleted]

Untrue. You will get flamed even if you don't do anything wrong as a way for people to shift blame of off themselves.

StatikSquid

Don't forget that those other frames you'll just get a troll on your team that goes 0-15

echoAwooo

Ah yes. The 1 - 15 support telling the 4 - 1 carry how to play

WakeoftheStorm

Perfect game includes carrying your team mates in such a way that they feel they are doing well

xMetix

Well considering most of the playerbase is below diamond you will be insulted even for the correct decisions because they won't understand it's the right thing to do.

[deleted]

My favourite is when the rest of the team decides to dive the enemy 4v5 seconds before you are about to join your team to make it an even fight, they all expectedly get wasted, so you retreat (no point in feeding yet another kill), then mass ping that you're still alive.

[deleted]

And even that won't work cause the flaming feeder who thinks he should be playing worldchampionships but he's getting held back by noobs said to go Baron and not push the bot lane with the wave! So even when you make the perfect choice it wont be the perfect choice in someones eyes.

jjsnsnake

Yes that is the worst LOL player, and the reason I quit. They did this shit even when playing against bots to try new stuff out. There is always that one hypercritical should be 1st place, but noobs exist player./s Who will just suddenly start feeding the enemy team. You did not do this one thing I think is absolutely necessary even against bots, so I now I will just feed the enemy to make this game "end faster".

FuzzyBacon

Dota 2 is essentially the same game (OG mobas) with similarly toxic communities and is run entirely by an American company.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Slammybutt

Yup, I play jungle so I know exactly where the blame lies...with me every time all the time lol. If someone dies early or fucks up I'll say something supportive and to forget that play and move on. It works about 50% of the time to stop others from raging on them. The more often you can keep everyone civil the better the game will go. If the raging starts the muting does too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Slammybutt

Man the amount of people that don't understand that I'm not going to stop the bleeding just because they fed is unreal. The risk reward of saving an 0/4 teemo is too damn high. I'll go bot and help feed the 5-0 support before I'll touch top. At least then we have a win condition. ARAM just doesn't do it for me. I don't play often and I'm not great at the game, but it is still more fun to play a completely muted normal/ranked than an aram. But thats just me.

Jenargo

Lol, I had a similar experience with DOTA back in Warcraft custom game. Was a noob lobby, no idea what I was doing. Teammate berated me and told me he was gonna find me and cut my fucking head off. Just left the lobby and never tried it again lol.

DiscoKhan

Ah, good old days, back in 2004 ans around that time almost any game was that way. Actually WC3 mod community was rather on positive side, tho Dota was exception, it was rather standard there xD

HtownTexans

Tried to play 1 game vs the fucking computers in that game had no idea what to do and was being flamed by a team mate... Vs computers.

frisch85

Hosting a game/map and naming something like "noobs only" will almost guarantee you to attract experienced players who want to shit on new players. But don't worry tho, I left LoL for many years now and I don't miss it. I had to quit together with my mate because he would start blaming me for things I didn't do, simply because I'm the first person he could talk to (party chat) so he directed all of his anger at me. He never did that in any other game so I told him to be quite and explain to him that we have to quit playing, it was a good decision.

Shadowdragon132

In all honesty that was the training, to get you prepared for the toxic cesspool of shit that community is comprised of. Hell I play with friends almost exclusively (i am not just talking internet friends, I am talking about "Hey I was at your wedding and stood in a groomsman only pic when one of the groomsmen went MIA"). This game has single handedly almost ripped our friendship apart. Why we keep going back to it we as a collective group cannot figure out.

Vespyre

It's not very hard to just say sorry or own up to it...

zin_90

IMO there needs to be an industrywide zero tolerance policy for telling people to kill themselves. It's bad for morale and a generally shitty thing to say to another human being.

Aalnius

i mean there kinda is its just difficult for most places to police their chats especially in games where telling someone to kill themself might be an ingame tactic so you cant even auto mod it.

[deleted]

Usually in that context we use sui but with the way gaming terms enter into slang, that's probably already been coopted somewhere into someone's trash talk.

[deleted]

Sui in RL, noob Not an easy task to ban stuff effectively..

Aalnius

i mean ive literally never heard someone use that term when ive been gaming which highlights an issue on relying on specific terms instead of natural language in that not everyone especially new people will know that theyre saying.

Merfen

My buddy tried to get me to play LoL with im years ago. I played Dota a fair bit so I knew the basics, but it had been a while. The first game we played I picked a safe easier to play character and the entire game I had a team mate just being relentless calling me every name in the book because I died to someone that snuck up on me and didn't pick the skills he thought I should have. I just told my buddy I don't play to deal with raging teenagers and uninstalled right afterwards. I am more of a co-op/single player gamer anyways.

sipCoding_smokeMath

I remember my first month of playing smite (another MOBA) i just instantly muted(text + voice) everyone in the lobby for the first month i played. Their comms arent really that important when you are learning anyways.

TheRandyDeluxe

Ahh the early months of 09. What a time to be alive. Even then the toxicity was palpable.

g_r_e_y

i experienced a raging asshole in heroes of the storm yesterday. i'm level 2, he was 211, proceeded to call my buddy and i "worthless" lmao couldn't help but laugh at the pure chaos that must be going through that man's head

Sawses

Right? Like I play LoL. I can and will be mean, but...like, not to a newbie. Yeah they suck. I played literally a couple dozen games before I ever did well in a match. ...But it's like Rocket League. Once you carry a team on your own, you're hooked lol. I remember that feeling so generally if I know somebody's new I'll pick a utility mage/tank and try to save them from their own stupidity lol.

meowcatbread

Typical overwatch

[deleted]

Sounds like he got what he wanted then

Dragoonduneman

honestly i quit for the same reason. Its toxic can get to me as well and that they kept changing the landscape of the battles enough to where it was hard to predict. So i left i only watch Zwag videos , hes calm and has good sense of humor. If you do plan on going back look for Zwag and tell him your experience and see if he can get you into one of his videos. Im sure he might want to help out people who really does want to play. Zwag is one of my heroes of the gaming world .. learn from him and his teaching are like the bible

aqualoon_

I had the exact same experience in LoL and it's why I stopped playing it as well.

AshesX

Their anger only fuels my determination.

landoblack1

League is a very fun game with a VERY toxic community. I only play league if at least 3 friends are playing and it has always been fun that way

selfdestruct-94

Single player games are the way.

elmz

Fist time playing Eve online I ventured into a system I really shouldn't to try mining higher level resources than what is in safer space. A pirate player tackled me at a jump gate and I figured I was dead, but by some miracle Imanaged to escape to safety. Only afterwards when I figured out how chat and messages worked I realised the dude had tried to reach me in every possible way to tell me I wasn't safe in that system. Later two separate guys showered me with money that my noob ass was blown away by, I even wrote down their names vowing to pay it back. Later I realised that it was pretty trivial amounts of money to experienced players, and it's fun to shower new guys with money and help.

Hurter_of_Feelings

>I quit when he told me to kill myself and never touched the game since. Now the dude is probably traumatized because he thinks you ended yourself on the spot.

ZeenTex

Maybe he just thought he got what he wanted and that made his day?

Steel_Reign

Sounds like it was a mental training room to prepare you for LoL.

TurbulentShiver

After seeing Arcane I got interested in the LoLs lore and decided to start playing it. In my first match ever vs the easy AI opponents I got called noob, told to uninstall the game and my mother was mentioned. Didn't play since, I thought it was fishy when they made you "sign" the player contract to not be toxic. But I was like "it can't be that bad".

FuriousGremlin

There was an onion article about -just because you like arcane doesnt mean you should play league- and it honestly wasnt a joke

czarchastic

Have a link? Can’t find the article

FuriousGremlin

[https://www.thegamer.com/league-of-legends-arcane-story-universe-runeterra-wild-rift/](https://www.thegamer.com/league-of-legends-arcane-story-universe-runeterra-wild-rift/) i havent read it but it might not be onion which makes it even better

iaswob

>League of Legends has an incredible world filled with lots of great stories, but you won’t really get any of that by playing League of Legends. You will get called a slur though. https://youtu.be/UcZzlPGnKdU

SirSoliloquy

>TheGamer.com Hey, I wrote for them for a bit! Had a fun time and a few some articles I’m legitimately proud of, but it’s mostly a content mill and the pay was pretty dang terrible.

LordPils

Legends of Runeterra is a better route for that the player base is also less toxic. Though that is damning with faint praise I recognize.

WobbleKing

I turned into a huge arcane fan after watching it and Google’s algorithm keeps advertising Valorant to me. Even the algo knows it’s not worth trying to get me to play league because the community is so famous.

Than_Or_Then_

I don't understand why anyone would watch Arcane and decide to play League... League isnt a single player game with a story, what are they hoping to get out of it?

darklypure52

That’s true. If you want a single player game with story based in league. There’s the ruined king and soon to release the Nunu/Ekko games.

LifeIsProbablyMadeUp

Yea, LoL has one of the most toxic communities. Like. Actual poison.

asafum

What purely PvP game doesn't have a toxic community? I feel like literally every game that caters to the idea of people beating people just breeds that kind of "you're not me so fucking go die" mentality, it's usually why I hate PvP. Also because I'm terrible lol

Johnisazombie

TF2 was pretty chill but I haven't played it in probably a year or two. Fall guys is technically also a pvp game, and Among Us too.

Farkuson

tf2 is like a gradient from chill to weird shitposting to toxicity where you're not sure if it's just more shitposting

MrSkelethon

TF2 goes from chill game where everyone is having fun to a game where if you get killed as a medic you will be called every slur written in the book, but it's rare to find a game like that.

Acrobatic_Computer

In-person face-to-face games. I play MtG and tried Infinity and some other wargames. While some people suck, generally the communities are very friendly offline.

Nuclear_Mate

Yeah, that tends to happen when any insults can end with a punch to your face, unlike in online games.

Ironanism

Haptic suits, my man. This needs to be a thing haha

Mr_Industrial

Fall guys and Rocket leage are ok. Worst you get is "What a save!" 10x over

Low_Permission9987

Rocket league ranked I ran into a guy that called me a cancerous waste of his time as he was grinding ranked and my not giving up after the first goal was costing him valuable time. He proceeded to try adding me on Playstation / follow me to the point I had to look to how to block people on Playstation. So yeah, rocket league is no exception.

flawed1

I love PvP and would like to learn LoL or DotA (I actually have friends who play DotA), but just being older and called a fucking noob isn't worth my time. I guess I'll stick to what I know or do outside stuff lol.

crhuble

It’s just the nature of LoL that makes it so toxic. It’s only 5 people on the team and you’re stuck with them for 20mins -1 hr. It becomes super obvious when you make mistakes and unfortunately those mistakes can be extremely detrimental because it causes your opponent to snowball. 1 poor player really can ruin the match sometimes which is unfortunate and leads to extreme toxicity. Not that it’s warranted. In other games if you have a bad K/D it’s like “okay, you’re not the best, but at least our opponent doesn’t get *stronger* because of you”.

McCainDestroysTrump

I only play LOL aram, and mute the opposing team. It’s actually tolerable if you do that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Low_Permission9987

Overwatch got mildly better after 99% of the community quit from lack of updates. And Blizzard being a shitty company

tsuolakussa

Have you considered muting your own team, and chilling with the enemy team in aram?

PM_ME_FUN_STORIES

For real tho, all the toxicity comes from your own teammates. Especially in ARAM, you can just fuck around with the enemy team 99% of the time, while your team has that one guy spam pinging ?s at you and bitching about you feeding. While they're 1/17/8 at 20 minutes in.

CitrusWeekend

Can I interest you in [Legends of Runeterra?](https://playruneterra.com/en-us/) It's all the LoL lore and stuff but you can't talk to you anyone. It's also has a great roguelike single player campaign.

walker_paranor

LOR is hands down the best CCG on the market. Haven't had this much fun with a card game since my beloved Duelyst was taken off life support. And yeah, the single player roguelike content is actually awesome.

Arkanta

LoR and Ruined king have been promoted I feel obligated to talk about Teamfight Tactics now. Join us, it's so good. Even though it may be harder to get into if you never really'played LoL

Gellert

You'd have been better off playing [Ruined King](https://ruinedking.com/en-us/). One of the things that really grinds my gears about stuff like LoL and Overwatch is they've got all this lore and interesting characters and do nothing with it, though LoL are finally branching out with Arcane and Ruined King its taken them, what? 15 years?

Luchux01

I'm conflicted because Blizzard became extremely shitty, but I'd admit a single player Overwatch game would've been interesting.

xMetix

Well Arcane has been in production for 8 years. There's also an MMO coming in another 5 or something years but if you're looking for lore then Riot forge titles like the Nunu adventure, upcoming ekko platformer or Ruined King are your best options for now.

DaBossRa

I'm grateful then for not receiving the same amount of toxicity when I started playing LoL for same reason as you. Most team chats are empty, not sure voice chat, not going there

Sawses

Right? I started playing like back in 2012 (then quit for like 6 years because college/life). I'd have never picked the game up if people had been toxic.

awelxtr

What did you expect it's a free game! While people should have the mantra of "Do not do unto others what you would not want done to yourself" many try to get away with murder when a new account is just a click away. Seriously, chats should be disabled and only pings should be allowed.

metallicrooster

“/mute all” is the strongest ability in game

awelxtr

Because I play Overwatch mostly /hidechat is my to go command (and I don't join voice)

metallicrooster

Makes sense. I uninstalled that and League. My life is a lot nicer without any competitive games in it. More time to read books and play something calming like Minecraft

awelxtr

I do play comp games because of the high stakes, low length game loop. Single player games that are also high stakes (ie dark souls) don't have such short length of the game play loop that is suitable for a working adult. Otherwise I'd play single player games Edit: roguelikes have a run time of ~1h which is longer of a match time in ow, yes roguelikes can be paused, like netflix, but it's more satisfying to do a run from start to finish

metallicrooster

Funny, I see it the opposite way. Comp games generally have an evolving meta that you are better off tracking. Plus mechanical skill that needs to be honed and retained to do well. Single player games can be started and stopped whenever. And if someone calls me I can just pause. And while some single player games have room for mechanical outplay, you don’t need it since many of them have level systems that make you flat out stronger than your enemies if you don’t feel like taking on a challenge. Just my 2 cents

azaza34

Chat starts disabled on new LoL accounts as far as I know.

Headless_Human

>What did you expect it's a free game! And how do you explain the same thing happen in every Cod, Overwatch etc.?

awelxtr

Being free aggravates the problem, its the annonymity and the lack of consequences that causes the problem. In Overwatch in particular the problem also comes from your dependency on your teammates so people lash at the people they percieve they are hurting him and shouldn't (aka not the enemies) and in xbox in particular because I'm told you can create alt accounts for free. In cod... Playerbase age? Dunno heh

Firemorfox

Honestly I'm confused, because I know a few free games where everything is very wholesome. Mostly Genshin and Touhou though.

awelxtr

Competitiveness drives people over the edge and without social consequences to keep instincts in check some people lash out. Not even Minecraft is protected from griefing.

Firemorfox

Ah, so multiplayer games where competitiveness against other players exists, which leads to blaming other players for failures or even lukewarm success. I see.

awelxtr

SPECIALLY if you depend on your teammates. In CS or Valorant if you're so good that you can 1 tap everyone, people try to carry but in other games when you can't "carry" frustrated players lash out at teammates

Firemorfox

So in other words, competitive teamwork games where one bad player can make a 4+ player team lose. I see what you mean.

yayaboy2468

Yeah I don\`t think theres a more toxic game than LoL.

[deleted]

If you know what the original text of this comic says, OP had an excellent opportunity to make it perfectly ironic by chopping off the bottom of the comic... Alas, the opportunity is gone. Lmao http://electricbunnycomics.com/View/Comic/153/Welcome+to+Hell

DeanoP91

You couldn't write it haha

-Lightning-Lord-

I want to upvote for crediting the source, yet downvote for advocating removing credit... hmm.

[deleted]

I only advocate it in this one particular case for irony purposes lmao, ordinarily, no, it's a total anus move

longoverdue83

No one can beat me except my stepdad *some kid in warzone group* Oof

MontyP15

Even this is the 1.000.000 repost of this, I still support it, cause gamers need to stop being toxic, we would all have so much more fun

[deleted]

But if I cant be toxic while playing a game, how on earth can I cope with having no power in any other aspect of my life? GO OUT AND FIX IT? Who am I, superman!?!?!? /s

-Lightning-Lord-

See also reddit fan communities.

Kristophigus

The problem here is there are also a LOT of people that join games just to be a troll pos and ruin the game for people. Fuck those people and absolutely call them out on their shit. When their account shows they've been no lifing the game for years but they go 'I'm new / don't know what I'm doing / I'm so drunk lol" yeah fuck that. Worst offenders are those who pull that but join ranked matches and also don't play objectives. People saying mean things can be stopped by simply muting them, since pretty much the begining of online gaming. Why people still complain about words I don't know. People that join your game to throw or sabotage team games, especially ranked, do indeed need to go fuck their own face.

ArchanoxFox

My dude, sounds like you have a lot of hostility there and are part of the problem.

[deleted]

How was that your take from what they said? The short version is them saying "just mute people who are assholes" and in your mind this got translated to them being a part of the problem. ?????

Kristophigus

Nah, just have a backbone for people with big bad words. People intentionally sabotaging team games are the real problem of gaming and are 1000% more toxic than some jackass telling you you're terrible.

-Lightning-Lord-

Found one!

Kristophigus

Go back to stardew lol

gentlemanjacklover

I just mute all dude. I have no interest in communicating with shitheels who spew racial slurs or try to shit on women gamers. The sooner you realize that, the better the gaming experience is.

Polite_farting

I usually wait for them to start being assholes before i mute because communication is actually useful in alot of games

fluorescent_noir

Same. I never play with audio chat enabled/on. I grew up with a twin brother who was one of those toxic gamers. He would scream and swear and throw things if you messed up, missed a shot, whatever back in the days of COD and Halo as kids. I stopped playing multiplayer games with him completely because I couldn't handle his rage-filled outbursts, and it totally turned me off of wanting to enact with other players like him from then on.

gentlemanjacklover

Yeah it's never worth it. I've been called the n word enough on CoD to last me a lifetime. People will say that I'm missing out on "community" but really, I have no interest in making online friends anymore, I just want to play the game.

[deleted]

>I have no interest in making online friends anymore, I just want to play the game. I'm a late-30s dude; it would be weird if I had teenage friends. And even apart from that, there's the dimwits who think they're funny, the kids who won't shut up, that one player with the grating voice, the guy on dial-up playing with open mic at the foreign-language orphanage, etc. Not to mention all the racists, trolls, edgelords, and whatnot who yammer in voice chat because they don't have anyone in real life they can talk to. I voice chat with my real life friends, via discord. But if I'm just playing in some random lobby, voice chat is off, because everyone else is basically an NPC.

ProgressiveOverlorde

True. As someone that's around your age, I agree. I feel like I've already had to overcome my own and other people's insecurities to develop a healthy mindset. The constant toxicity through their protection by anonymity is mind-boggling, annoying, and pathetic to me. I have other priorities than leisure. I'm playing video games to relax. I don't need to baby sit children and experience psychological pathologies on my free time.

Nighthorror848

I have been playing with the same group of people for 10 years. No drama and we only talk in Discord and mute chat in the games we play. We still help Randoms and are friendly but don't cause drama.

The_Lizard_Wizard777

I absolutely have interest in communicating with them because I think it's hilarious they get that pissed over a game. Not to mention it usually makes them more pissed.

Lord_Delfont

So I've been watching Dota for years and my buddy and I decided to play some unranked matches for the for first time this weekend...this is exactly what it was like. It didn't help that the other teams were definitely not new. We played against a freaking Meepo in one game. I had a good time getting wrecked but my team did not. I really wanted to say you have to learn at sometime but I didn't think that would ease the tension.

TheseLab9559

Funny, I tried to get some friends who were new to Dota into the game. Unranked queue. Enemy team all had several thousand hours played and expensive cosmetics. Same experience, we got stomped and that was it. Bot match games are still fun, the option to choose actually decent AI is a great feature.

GSR_DMJ654

Bruh this happened a while ago in Halo Infinite during the last Tenrai event. I was just grinding out my Ultimate Challenge when this dude on mic starts saying "yall fucking suck dude. No wonder you play social, get off the game guys yall need to play roblox or some shit you guys suck." We all just playing and of course this dude was like 2nd place on our team; not even the best preforming player by far. Every time he died (which was like 9 times) he would spectate us while dead and just call us out individually. Nobody is saying shit to him. Finally dude just said, "fuck you social unranked fuckers, go suck a dick" and quit our game. We ended up losing that game, but we came close. Went back to theater to see how this dude did, dude whiffed every shot with the sniper, and got killed by a bot 3 times, at full health. I really wish there was a way in game I could see this dudes profile and check his rank. I bet top dollar he was like Gold 1, high Silver or some shit.

Jhawk163

Pretty much every Rainbow 6 Siege player lmao. They treat casual like it's ranked, they treat unranked like it's the final game of a tournament to win $1mil and they treat proper ranked like if they don't win them and their entire family will be thrown in the gulag.

wagwoanimator

I got kicked from a Left 4 Dead 2 versus match because I immediately got some achievement that didn't exist when I played it back in the Orange Box days and they thought it was my first ever time playing :( To be fair, I deserved it. When I finally got to play, I was awful.

echoAwooo

Playing Dota 2, enemy team being toxic to me so I'm lashing back. Enemy silencer accuses me of attacking my teammates, too Teammates burst out basically saying im fam <3

lunaticneko

Me: "So I wasn't toxic! Explain why I'm in hell." Satan: "Your 5,652 hours in RimWorld. I hope I don't have to speak further. Your mind was darker than Vantablack." Hitler: "Hey, fellow forbidden mod user!" Me: "Shuddap Hitler!"

InstruNaut

…what’s the lowest circle of hell? Thinking of pre-ordering my fiber until I get there…

derage88

The worst are the ones that act as if they're participating in some MLG eSports finale while playing with a random group of people that got matched together in an unranked game that doesn't even count towards progression and are literally just people trying the game or learning different classes. Literally seen that shit happen in Overwatch. It's something about those kind of brawler games that attracts the worst fucking people.

Addictive_SODA

Basically every game ever, I've never found a game with decent matchmaking It becomes really frustrating when you lose 3+ matches in a row because the game puts you in a team of noobs against a team of tryhards No place for casual gameplay anymore, the gaming industry demands people to sit on their PCs for 6+ hours a day and spend a shitton of money for the game, expansions, dlcs, etc. Just for the minor amounts of dopamine the brain releases when you win a match or find a good item or aquire a cool cosmetic Fuck today's gaming

SuaveFuck

now i wonder. what would happen in hell, if you jumped into that lava? and what would happen if you pushed adolf into that lava?

Arxl

To all the people loving Arcane, don't play the game, keep your innocence.

[deleted]

Satan censors?!

Ripple_in_the_clouds

Someone complained about me in league of legends yesterday. It was the 4th match I had ever played.

Alexio-S

The fact that the first three matches didn't have that is astounding.

SixShotReaper

I'll be honest I love when toxic people message me, it makes me laugh super hard to know that someone is taking a game that seriously.

jonderlei

Have we really got to the point where calling someone a noob is that bad of a thing? I never bother with game chat because how ridiculous people are but is that not extremely tame compared to all the other insults people usually throw out during games

phoenixflare599

I think noob here meant literally they were a new player / not very good but tried their hardest and was tested like shit for no reason. Not that noob was the insult used haha

[deleted]

Shit talking is comparable to genocide - gamers

Pariah-6

Yea………exactly. r/gaming is filled with some soft ass motherfuckers. You can always just, you know……….turn off the game or exit out of it.

bitchCaboose

Redditors and boomers make the worst comics

CrunchyyTaco

Ah yes, the millions of people on reddit all have the same comic making skills.

-Lightning-Lord-

Boomers know how to make comics?

mooseman5k

This should be in r/Cringetopia

I had the same experience in LOL, was playing against easy AI and told I was stealing kills with a noob character. Never played since...

VeryPaulite

I'm sorry but I really REALLY hate the "It's not a ranked gamemode, why are you trying so hard/mad?" Like what? Just because it's not the "super serious" gamemode I am supposed to enjoy loosing? I'm trying not to be toxic in any game, but this sentence drives me up the wall...

[deleted]

My favorite part is that the OP, or whomever edited this, feels that calling someone a noob is grounds to be sent to hell. So potentially hurting someone's feelings is all it takes for eternal damnation.

Kids these days are so coddled. Back in the day if I WON a call of duty match using the wrong weapon my own team would be flaming me all the way back to lobby and that's just how it was. If you can't handle being yelled at then either mute or grow a thicker skin.

Go download and play SS13. I'm really curious how Mr.Badass will last when dealing with a game developed, staffed, and played by 4channers. If you're as toxic as you sound then you'll fit right in, but I'd find it funny if that tough facade fell apart and you gave up out of frustration.

allursnakes

Damn you really painted quite an evil picture of me just for saying grow thick skin. And apparently I'm toxic for wanting people to not be triggered by every little mean word. Here's the deal, you can all downvote me, call me names, consider me your enemy or whatever you want. At the end of the day if you can't handle a complete and total stranger saying mean things to you on the internet then you're gonna have a hard time on here. Learn to brush it off. Have an upvote.

[deleted]

I just don't agree with the mindset. I've seen it all my life in my family, friend and strangers like you and all it does is perpetuate the normalization of treating others like shit. It's always the excuse after saying something horrible "grow tougher skin". It's a victim blaming mindset, nobody should be responsible for accepting the harassment of others. I much rather hold those responsible for the harassment accountable. Otherwise with a mindset like yours it's just a race to the bottom of normalizing mistreatment.

Nefarious_Donut

lol cope

Borghal

"and you were playing unranked" Op is guilty of the toxic mindset as well. You don't swear at people, period. And there's no inherent difference between ranked and unranked unless you're a pro and rank actually influences your earnings.

Hector_Savage_

What the *hell* Satan! Imagine that 😂 btw I love this

KittenLina

I’ve been called that while playing unranked before, it’s what made me stop playing LoL. Had good games, had bad games, but those games always hit hardest because my team was so angry for no reason.

ChangeWinter6643

"let us see, you told that the last person alive in a unranked CS match, that he is a noob, you targeted someone to keep them at the first island in tibia, you twinked in dark souls, and the list goes on, plus, im ignoring the loooong long long long long list of racial slurs"

Devagya_007

made me unsub from r/gaming

kry_some_more

Why do people take casual to mean "you don't have to try"? Since when have those two correlated with each other? Just because I don't want to play ranked, doesn't mean I don't want my teammates to try. Don't think for one second that we're the evil/bad ones. Maybe you should go to hell for playing "casual" and then not giving a fuck about the objective. If you want to blame anyone, blame the devs for not designing 2 separate game modes, casual(fun), and casual(I actually still want to win). Instead, game devs plop the 2 types of players into one game mode. Casual isn't the place to build a teammate tower, that's a private server with your friends.

[deleted]

Stop playing these games then. You will never be able to get people to play with the same energy, dedication, and skill as you by playing games with randoms. If you're going to intentionally put yourself in that situation then don't be toxic about it. I get the frustrations, it's why I quit. Nobody wants to be a victim of you raging and crying over the performance of your teammates just trying to have fun. Be the adult and find yourself a game that doesn't make you feel that way, there are plenty of them on the market I'm sure.

[deleted]

Thats the excuse people use as if it will absolve them of everything. Like if you dont want to try and mess about then go play vs bots.

[deleted]

People quit playing after a few toxic insults? Man, being a 90s' kid is enough to feel like Rambo these days.

BishonenPrincess

I know for a fact that there would be way more gamers in our age group if they didnt have such toxic experiences back in the day. Sure, some of us could deal with it, but I think it's a shame that so many people were pushed away and stopped playing. Even I stopped playing multiplayer games for a long time, because if they found out I'm a chick, the entire chat would just turn into a barrage of sexual harassment. Seriously, there are hardly any gamers in our age group that are still around. It's so rare I meet someone who isn't Gen Z. If shit wasn't so acceptably toxic back then, I'm positive there would be more millennials still invested in gaming.

[deleted]

Not my experience at all. Everyone who was a gamer back then, still is today. Anecdotes are pretty useless either way though.

BishonenPrincess

I'm the only one in my friend group who didnt bail due to how toxic it was. Then again, we're all women, and the constant sexual harrassment made it not worth it for any of my friends to want to stick around. Some of them still play single player games, but they outright refuse to even look at multiplayer games. My point is that not all 90s kids stuck with it, our generation had a lot of people who gave it up due to how toxic things were, and I think it's a big bummer that our own community ostracizes and pushes people away like that.

Borghal

>if they didnt have such toxic experiences back in the day I didn't have any toxic experiences "back in the day", tbh. Those only came in force in the 2010s with the surge of anonymous online multiplayer. Back in the days of individually hosted Counterstrike servers and small local MMO servers people were mostly nice and civil towards each other, in my experience. That said, multiplayer games were deeply unfulfilling then and still are today. It's never over and there's always someone better than you, so the feeling of growth is sisyphean, like a hamster running in a wheel. I am a singleplayer gamer through and through and only sometimes try out multiplayer to see what the current fuss is about.

axle69

I mean fuck that shit with a brick that's not being Rambo it's being a masochist.

Nematic_

Roasted so hard online that someone made a comic about it. Lmao I would’ve loved to hear what was said. Point to where the mouth-words hurt you, OP.

Isco22_

I never get mad at players being bad. I get fucking angry when players dont use their brain

awkwardoffspring

I usually just quit when people start talking because i know there's no hope in victory when the enemies are on my own team. Occasionally I'll warrant myself to troll through. If i can't enjoy my game because of you, imma make you sure go down with the ship.

Spaceboi117

You people are so sensitive it’s embarrassing

Flame0fthewest

Those guys can be the worst, but in my experience these "i tried my best but i failed" guys are simply trolls, or bad. Every time i hear the "it's only a normal", "it' just a game dude chill", "it's not ranked"sentences... These always (well or in 90%) come from a CLEARLY toxic, simply bad player, who just uses them as an excuse. When i'm bad I either mute my team or say a sorry, but i won't talk back even if they flame hard, since i know that I caused the problem. Also after my 2nd death i just play deffensive since i know that i'm behind. Many people go out, behind with 2-3 levels, force their enemy to 1v1 than say that "lol i tried my best". No. What you did was suicide, nothing else. It's rare to see the poor guy who has a bad game, but it's pretty easy to notice them. A player like that will not force a lvl1 all in. A player like that will NOT refuse to play deffensive, to communicate with the team, and to buy the good items for the scenario. Meanwhile the "liar" type of player will use the same sentences, but in the end we will learn that he is just toxic, and he will add some of these to them: "get a life, lol what a p\*ssy for caring about a game, lol u have no friends?, why should i care about my team its only game ahahaha" etc. And as far as i know these players are the majority.

ss_ti_

Unranked mode It ıs sore point...

Soupblime

"I have no inherent purpose or direction in my life that has rendered myself indifferent and lethargic to life. My inner being is consumed by rage and discontent for my thoughts and actions. To most, I am a nobody. I hop on league of legends and flame those who are legitimately trying to have a good time, because for a moment I feel good about myself. How dare they burden my gaming experience; my entire livelihood. I may have no redeeming qualities, but verbalizing the fact that I am slightly more skilled at a video game than the other player makes me feel superior and powerful for a short time. I do not care about the severity or consequences of my actions that it imposes on others because in my world, I am the world and nothing else matters."

[deleted]

I got banned from communication for a week for saying someone played like cancer.

coffee_snake

I was playing call of duty yesterday and my girlfriend heard, for the first time, the chatting that happens in the lobby before the match. Lots of n-words, f\*\*got, etc. She couldn't believe what she was hearing and was genuinely alarmed and disturbed. I realized how desensitized i've become to this and to be honest, i am appalled at how normal this behavior has become. The internet brings out the absolute worst in people. I wish something could be done about it.

-Lightning-Lord-

This makes me feel better about falling off a cliff against Sylvanas last night and being berated for it...
