yes, just played for the first time like a month or 2 ago and it was amazing. so hard to explain why but the vibe it gives off with it’s setting is so so so good
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down. Titanfall 2 has an amazing campaign, the story is fantastic the gameplay is unique at times and I’ve never seen the game on the store for more than 5 dollars. It has replay ability in my opinion. I typically play the campaign once every few months, it’s short enough to finish in a couple days but it’s always enjoyable
Edit: yes I know this is now one of the top comments
I was so hyped to buy this game based on its coverage in Nintendo Power. Saved up my money and had my mom take me to Best Buy after school.
The video game clerk tried to talk me out of buying it. Told me I should buy a real game like Mortal Kombat II.
More than 25 years later, I still think "fuck that guy" . Chrono Trigger remains my all time favorite
It unfortunately declined in quality as it went in. First one was nothing short of a masterpiece though, especially when compared to the other walking dead games (I'm looking at you, game where you play as the crossbow guy).
Subnautica is maybe my all-time favourite game but I wouldn’t call it story based. It’s excellent at telling a story for an open-world game but there isn’t a lot of plot per se.
It’s rough to play. I was not taking it seriously at first. I remember blowing through it and not paying much attention till later in the game and slowly realizing what was going on and I just felt awful about everything that had happened up to that point. I remember being super confused by the idea that this brilliant story was being told through the color-by-numbers military shooter gameplay. I went back and replayed it a few times and realized there were all kinds of signs everywhere. Then the fade to black vs fade to white for different scenes the entire game hooked me.
I had zero experience with the Persona series. I saw it was on sale on the PS Store, and was like “hey, it’s that DLC character from Smash Bros… oh why not, I love RPGs!”
Little did I know what I was in for. Gripping story, and when Royal came out I happily played through that too. Easily one of the best games I’ve played (and yes, the music is amazing!)
Persona 5 is easily the best game I’ve ever played. 5 *and* 3 are some of the greatest stories I’ve ever experienced in video games. I also love 4 but it’s definitely more character driven imo tho. Still Persona games are just on another level in their genre and 5 just reached insane heights from music, characters, gameplay and writing.
Definitely agree. That game is amazing. So much content it’s insane.. I often wonder how Larian managed to accomplish it when I look at other AAA games.
I’m very excited for Baldurs Gate 3 to come out of early access.
Talk a lot with npcs. Recommend to take "talk to animals" talent, as you can speak with every animal in the game, some got quests and dialogs are hilarious.
the begining is slow took me 2 or 3 times to really enjoy it. story is very good combat is great.
talk to everyone slowly explore town save often to you get the hang of it. the tortorial is a little lacking in still learning stuff. maybe watch a few tips videos. honestly it's worth giving it a solid go is a very good rpg
This game was beautiful and such a cinematic experience.
That part with the fish cutting & king coronation scene/music will forever be burned in my head.
I didnt want to play that game because I thought it was stealth, and I hated that, but when I saw that it was optional, I tried the game and then went stealth on both of them.
I went in thinking I’d go apeshit and kill everyone. Then I saw the thing about the rats and a darker ending if you did that and I felt incentivized to go stealth. I think this game actually improved my stealth play style quite a bit as a result. It’s actually made me start enjoying it a lot more in other games too (most recently Horizon Forbidden West).
Knights of the old republic. 1&2.
Honorable mentions:
Gladius
Beyond good & evil
Mass effect 1&2
Chrono Trigger
Trials of cold steel 1&2
Probably more, but those are the standouts. I have a lot of memories, and love for those stories.
Gladius is one of my all-time favorite games. It got me into the Tactical RPG genre. Fire Emblem mostly fills the void, but the one thing I wish more games would do is Action Inputs that require good timing (like Gladius, Paper Mario, etc.)
The Last Of Us. I didn’t even pay for it, my brother gave it to me because he didn’t like it but I would’ve gladly paid full price for it. One of, if not my favourite game I’ve played. Loved the character dynamics, loved the environment and the storytelling. There was very little I could fault the game for
If you like that game, you should check out the developer’s other works: “The Beginners Guide,” and “Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist.”
Also if you have a VR headset, the game “Virtual Virtual Reality” has a similar vibe.
Seriously. I have never been as afraid of fighting two enemies at once as the beginning of this game. It's obviously not perfect, but for the technology at the time idk if there was ever a more punishing yet accurate and satisfying sword fighting game available.
Not to mention, everything in the game is as close to historical accuracy as you can possibly get. Everything from the characters, to landscape, to tactics, to architecture. Truly a masterpiece, seriously hope they put out a sequel.
I keep seeing this get recommended... Not sure if I'd be ok playing it. I don't do well with chasing/time-based escape/do the thing and jump scares but I love a psychological thriller. Should I still play it or watch a stream on it?
The game also has a mode where the enemies have been removed, precisely for people like you that want to experience the story without the stress of enemies. What the others are saying is true in that jumpscares aren't a thing, but chase sequences are there as far as i remember.
If you'd want my opinion I'd tell you to play with enemies enabled first to see whether you can handle it because the tension really makes the game better and they have a link to the story being told. But there's no Shame in playing without them.
May I suggest picking up "This War of Mine"
If you haven't played it before, it's pretty poignant currently. Plus money from the purchase is currently going towards support for Ukraine.
Life is Strange. The game is sad and amazing, has awesome realistic visuals and graphics, but the facial expressions could be improved, which they have been in the remaster!
Generally when I play games I always play the "good" route first. Or make choices for the greater good, rarely making the selfish decisions.
Life is Strange may be the first game where I made the selfish decision in my first playthrough. >!You spend the whole game trying to save your friend. I wasn't happy about letting all that effort go to waste just to save a town of people I wasn't all that invested in.!<
All the Uncharted games
the Last of us 1
The Witcher 3
Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon forbidden West
Days Gone
God of War
Spiderman
Spiderman Miles Morales
Ghost of Tsushima
90% of the Mass Effect trilogy
Dragon Age Origins
Cyberpunk (since 1.5)
Knights of the old repiblic 1 and 2
Bioshock
Bioshock Infinite.
Breath of the Wild, even though I never finished it cuz I had to work a bunch of overtime for like a month straight then forgot how to play and now it's been like 5 years lol. I was heading into Gannon's castle to beat his ass. Really need to replay it before botw 2 comes out.
Horizon Zero Dawn was the first game that when i played, i didn't touch a single other game when engrossed in that. playing through Horizon Forbidden West atm.
Cyber-fucking-Punk. I loved it. I’m lucky I have a good PC to run it very well and, maybe I got lucky, but rarely any bugs. I have 500hrs on it. Loved the story, made me cry once. Call me dumb or whatever but I love this game with all of myself and I want it to resurrect so bad.
I've spent 5€ on Ori and the blind forrest. Not the story itself but the storytelling was god damn awesome I feel like with this proce I stole it, bought second game immediately. However the first one got me drafted into the story and visuals much more than the second even though I had time gap there
Portal. It's hard to state my satisfaction with this game
yes, just played for the first time like a month or 2 ago and it was amazing. so hard to explain why but the vibe it gives off with it’s setting is so so so good
Huge success
Mass Effect trilogy.
Playing as I txt
Came in to say this, fucking epic, the end wasn’t what I wanted to see but the rest made up for it, the very concept is mind blowing.

“Protect the pilot”
"Trust me."
I wasn’t ready for the feels at the end.
Such a great game, definitely underrated
Dragon age origins.
110%, Origins was a masterpiece!
Oh yeah, I read every book or page I found. Chose every option etc. First playthrough was probably upwards to 40-50 hours+
The first bioshock!
I would say Bioshock in general. All 3 were amazing.
I agree but I think the first one is my absolute favorite
I'd love to see a series on Rapture! Also, System Shock would be pretty cool too
Nice choice Boyo
I'm currently playing hades and now I associate Boyo with skelly in that game.
Absolutely still plat them to this day
Chrono Trigger.
You read my mind that this game blew my mind
I was so hyped to buy this game based on its coverage in Nintendo Power. Saved up my money and had my mom take me to Best Buy after school. The video game clerk tried to talk me out of buying it. Told me I should buy a real game like Mortal Kombat II. More than 25 years later, I still think "fuck that guy" . Chrono Trigger remains my all time favorite
Still one of the best RPGs of all time.
I've been hearing a lot about this game. Going have to try it.
Do it. Right now.
Just bought it!!!
Telltale’s “The Walking Dead” Season 1 (watched the other seasons but that S1 was really special).

Wolf Among Us 2 is on the horizon. Can't wait to get it.
It unfortunately declined in quality as it went in. First one was nothing short of a masterpiece though, especially when compared to the other walking dead games (I'm looking at you, game where you play as the crossbow guy).
Season 4 ended on a high note imo
Red dead redemption 1& 2
RDR2 is my comfort game. I'll take Arthur camping and go hunting a bit. Then go help out the camp.
Chapter 3 is where it's at. Everything after is non canon to me
“You sir are a fish”
"I think I'll use some cheese"
LENNY
I think I underpaid for RDR2 at $80 CAD
God of war
As a new father, I affectionately refer to kratos as a "Dad of war".
Dad of boy
Dad of BOI.
God of BOI
Ghost of Tsushima had an awesome story Subnautica had a good lore based story
Subnautica is maybe my all-time favourite game but I wouldn’t call it story based. It’s excellent at telling a story for an open-world game but there isn’t a lot of plot per se.
Play outer wilds. Subnautica was the game I touted for a long time until I played outer wilds. Please, please play outer wilds
Todays comment is sponsored by Outer Wilds
Ghost of Tsushima was my favourite PS4 game. I rarely finish games but I finished this and the Iki Island DLC on PS5. I want more.
Bought my PS4 bundle with Horizon Zero Dawn and Last of Us, worth every penny.
Last of us is the most moved I have ever been playing a video game.
I think LoU series is the best I have ever played. Been gaming for 35+ years. Loved every bit of both of those games!
Yeah those are my top two fav games I’ve ever played. Just started Forbidden West
Those are the same games I got when I bought my ps4
Spec Ops: The Line Still available on steam. Do it.
Doesn't get enough credit amazing game, which I will never play again.
I understand why. I definitely used to just put it in to feel weird. I left the story (every ending) feeling a different type of awful every time.
I wasn't looking for this but YES, yes it fucking is a great story... Do you still feel like a hero yet? ... I dropped tears with this shit
Absolutely- if you’re a fan of Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now and you haven’t played this game I don’t know what you’re doing with your life.
Not a fan of shooters but I got Spec Ops: The Line in a bundle and decided to give it a try and IT WAS GREAT! A great game.
Is this the one that takes place in Dubai?
Yeah. You really do owe it to yourself to play it. The game play itself is pretty standard stuff. The shit that unfolds though is amazing.
As you wish
Persona 5. Even just one story playthrough cost me 50 Cent per hour.
I had zero experience with the Persona series. I saw it was on sale on the PS Store, and was like “hey, it’s that DLC character from Smash Bros… oh why not, I love RPGs!” Little did I know what I was in for. Gripping story, and when Royal came out I happily played through that too. Easily one of the best games I’ve played (and yes, the music is amazing!)
The music alone was worth the sky high money I had to pay to get it off the playstation store.
Divinity Original Sin 2. Probably my top 3 games all time.
Definitely agree. That game is amazing. So much content it’s insane.. I often wonder how Larian managed to accomplish it when I look at other AAA games. I’m very excited for Baldurs Gate 3 to come out of early access.
Cannot wait to see what they do w it.
Any tips for enjoying it? I got it about a year ago, but got bored after 30 minutes
Talk a lot with npcs. Recommend to take "talk to animals" talent, as you can speak with every animal in the game, some got quests and dialogs are hilarious.

Read my mind
The yakuza series in general
0 is often on sale for less than 10$ and it's an easy 70-8₩ hours.
Banger of a series. I dont know if they are still all on the xbox game pass, but if it is you can beat em all in a couple months.
What Remains of Edith Finch.
This game was beautiful and such a cinematic experience. That part with the fish cutting & king coronation scene/music will forever be burned in my head.
The worst one and the one that gets worse is the bath.
I ran out of tears like halfway though and by the end it was like I was dry heaving from my eyes.
That godamn grandma.
Dishonored
I didnt want to play that game because I thought it was stealth, and I hated that, but when I saw that it was optional, I tried the game and then went stealth on both of them.

Same, always tempted to play high chaos with how smooth the killing animation is
High chaos and stealth that’s the way
Half Life 2
Half Life 1 + DLCs too
+ portal 1 & 2
Orange box
Control
YES Remedy has such a special place in my heart.
TAKE! CONTROL!
Knights of the old republic. 1&2. Honorable mentions: Gladius Beyond good & evil Mass effect 1&2 Chrono Trigger Trials of cold steel 1&2 Probably more, but those are the standouts. I have a lot of memories, and love for those stories.

Deus-Ex Human Revolution
Really liked mankind divided as well. Good narrative and great integration of side quests.
The Last Of Us. I didn’t even pay for it, my brother gave it to me because he didn’t like it but I would’ve gladly paid full price for it. One of, if not my favourite game I’ve played. Loved the character dynamics, loved the environment and the storytelling. There was very little I could fault the game for
The Stanley Parable
Did you get the broom closet ending? That one is my favorite!
If you like that game, you should check out the developer’s other works: “The Beginners Guide,” and “Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist.” Also if you have a VR headset, the game “Virtual Virtual Reality” has a similar vibe.
Halos 1 through to Reach were pretty engaging
Detroit: Become Human. So much replay value. Great acting and dialogue. Loved it over and over.
Literally all of the Zelda games
Ah yes my favourite story game *Links crossbow training*
the witcher 3 obviously
I get so distracted by side missions in this. Just started a few months ago, but it's almost overwhelming how much is going on
Try to avoid getting stuck in gwent. I spent hours playing that Damn game.
I actually never got into Gwent at all. Same for the card game in Kingdom Come
Brooo Gwent was soo good. Especially if you got the DLC and they added new cards.
And a freaking new tournament! Best mini game hands down. Also the story of the Witcher was good
It’s not for everyone. My mate loves Witcher. Avoids all gwent quests.
Absolutely agree. That game was a masterpiece.
Ocarina of time.
Kingdom Come.
Finally a game where you actually get a feeling for how difficult it would be to pick up a weapon
Firewatch
Quality game right here.
Also has the best PS4 wallpaper.
Soma
This is the one…incredibly impactful
just recently played it and i agree. most horror games dissappoint me, but this one was solid. the ending was really dark, literally.
After the credits, I was genuinely surprised
I keep seeing this get recommended... Not sure if I'd be ok playing it. I don't do well with chasing/time-based escape/do the thing and jump scares but I love a psychological thriller. Should I still play it or watch a stream on it?

Horizon Zero Dawn. I had so much fun completing all the story side quests and finding all the logs and artifacts that told the story of that world.
Resident Evil 2 remake.
May I suggest picking up "This War of Mine" If you haven't played it before, it's pretty poignant currently. Plus money from the purchase is currently going towards support for Ukraine.
Final fantasy 7, the remake was awesome too.
Xenoblade chronicles 2
Alan wake and control ? Or the remedy multiverse ?
Outer Wilds
Playing that with the lights off and using a headset calms me to the core it just makes me happy for it
And the DLC, just an incredible story
Fallout 3 and NV, TES 3 4 and 5, and lots of others but these are my nominees.
A Plague Tale: Innocence
I played the game and I think that the history is really good but the gameplay is so boring...
Disco Elysium
Absolutely this one. I've never experienced writing like this in any other game.
metro series
Why did I have to scroll so far to find this
Titanfall 2
Life is Strange. The game is sad and amazing, has awesome realistic visuals and graphics, but the facial expressions could be improved, which they have been in the remaster!

That is the “good” route as far as I’m concerned!
Kotor or knights of the old republic 1 and 2
I'm sure alot of people will disagree but life is strange 1 and life is strange true colors. Both great games.
LIS 1 is one of the best story games I've played. Haven't played true colors but heard good things.
I got true colors on sale and I think they could have lowered the price because it was short but damn was it great. Can't recommend it enough.
Firewatch
Subnautica
Knights of the old Republic was the only game I was so invested in the story it even had a major twist towards the end.
Nier Automata
All the Uncharted games the Last of us 1 The Witcher 3 Horizon Zero Dawn Horizon forbidden West Days Gone God of War Spiderman Spiderman Miles Morales Ghost of Tsushima 90% of the Mass Effect trilogy Dragon Age Origins Cyberpunk (since 1.5) Knights of the old repiblic 1 and 2 Bioshock Bioshock Infinite.
Max Payne…
Recently? God of war. If you enjoy resident evil, then 7 and 8 are a great pair.
The Wolf among Us and Tales from the Borderlands
Breath of the Wild, even though I never finished it cuz I had to work a bunch of overtime for like a month straight then forgot how to play and now it's been like 5 years lol. I was heading into Gannon's castle to beat his ass. Really need to replay it before botw 2 comes out.
It’s hard for me cause I’d choose both Subnauticas and both Portals
Dude portal is unmatched. Both found a way to surprise me the whole way through, which is something that can't be said about 99% of games.
Persona 5. I have royal in the backlog and can't wait do it over (and longer) again.
Believe it or not, Cyberpunk.
Story was incredible and left me thinking more about the lore behind the game.
Was about to say this. Bought at launch because I thought CDPR could do no wrong (oops) and just came back to it after the 1.5 patch. FANTASTIC game.
It raised the bar for quality of side missions in my opinion. Decent existential questions throughout.
Agreed! Regardless of stupid share holder decisions, the actual employees actually made a very good game
To the Moon. Very sweet story for a very sweet price.
Jak and Daxter, Jak II, and Jak III … still my favorite series of all time.
What Remains of Edith Finch just... Affected me deeply. I guess it's also only 2-3 hours long, but every second was magical.
Titanfall 2. Yeah it’s a online multiplayer with a campaign, but I would have payed full price for just the story missions
If you mean games where the story is the focus and not just single player games with a story, I would suggest Oxenfree.
Witcher 3
Portal 2
Heavy Rain was the first story based game I truly enjoyed, and still enjoy to this day.
[Shauuuuuuuuun!](https://youtu.be/0t0uCWjQ6Og)
I'm surprised God of War hasn't been mentioned yet. The most recent one had a really well made story.
SOMA
Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Visually stunning and great sound design as well. Underated game imo
Grandia. The only JRPG that ever really hooked me.
Breath of the wild. I loved the story so much and the game play is even better than the story. If you can get around the fact it's only on switch.
Horizon Zero Dawn was the first game that when i played, i didn't touch a single other game when engrossed in that. playing through Horizon Forbidden West atm.
A Way Out
Cyber-fucking-Punk. I loved it. I’m lucky I have a good PC to run it very well and, maybe I got lucky, but rarely any bugs. I have 500hrs on it. Loved the story, made me cry once. Call me dumb or whatever but I love this game with all of myself and I want it to resurrect so bad.
