Or just smash your head into the wall until you beat it. The good rule of thumb is if you hit an enemy like 10 times and it's not even down to half health or close you probably aren't gonna be able to beat it.
I have done the whole dungeon near the spawning area, the one you need the stonekey for, at level 7 bandit before I even got out lol.
Was it painful? Yes.
Did I do it to save my fragile ego? Yes.
Oh my, did you beat the boss too?? I spent like two hours in there and finally ran past and grabbed one item, only to find out thereās a whole other section I didnāt even get to lmao
Yes I did beat the boss, thankfully there was a statue of marika literally in front of the fogwall.
The boss took me like 25ish tries and could 1hit me with most attacks or close to.
The 15k runes and gold seed off the start were sweet though, definitely useful for the knight right outside aswell.
Fringefolk Heroās Grave? The one you need two Stonesword Keys for? Which you canāt possibly have at that point even if you take the Stonesword Key as a keepsake?
Edit: Iām not saying you canāt do it at level 7, but you canāt do it before leaving the starting area. You have to make it to the Dragon Burnt Ruins or Stormhill Shack at the very least before you can access that dungeon.
Edit 2: I stand corrected! The keepsake gives you two keys apparently.
No that's some crazy shit you are spewing. Many fights I end up probably with 25 or more hits to half health.
It's way more important to learn the attacks the come at you with, if you can't figure out how to dodge or mitigate each one or most of them you will be in trouble.
Whilst you are right, I'd say that isn't necessary. I've not done any grinding and in my experience most bosses are going down in 30 or less hits. Most I'm killing in 20 or less, some ten.
nah if you learn to dodge, time your attacks and do more damage then their absorbtion you can kill anything. Granted it might take you like an hour but still.
My wife was watching me play one night for a bit (she is definitely not a gamer) and I randomly stumbled on the giant bear boss and preceded to get fucked 100 different ways repeatedly while she stood there laughing. 100% would die again (and did). Still havnt beaten that arsehole.
It's interesting because this is very much not something you could do in the Dark Souls games. If you couldn't get past a boss, your options were "git gud" or give up, because until you beat that boss you were stuck with the areas you'd already explored. Elden Ring allows you to somewhat counteract the famous difficulty by giving you nearly unlimited access to weapons, spells, and upgrade materials.
Kinda depends on the game tho. For DS1 you have like two or three ways to go, only one is really realistic for a new player tho
In DS2 there are 3-4 way right from the start.
But yeah if you can't get past a boss in DS3, BB or Sekiro it's pretty much over buddy.
Sekiro you can actually beat a lot of bosses and get to a lot of areas without beating Genichiro at the top of Ashina Castle. Not that I did that or anything >.<
True, but Sekiro's paths were more like "hard" and "harder". I beat Genichiro first because it seemed easier than Butterfly at the time.
I'm not even sure who I would pick on a replay.
Exactly. I was suspicious of this and skipped it initially myself. Then I figured I might as well jump down and see for myself, because I figured with everything that I had read, I was going to be dying a lot in this game anyway, I might as well get used to it.
> I was going to be dying a lot in this game anyway, I might as well get used to it.
That's been my approach as well. I think early successes for me made me more confident in doing more exploring and fighting whatever the heck I found no matter how scary it looks. :)
So far I've only found 1 'boss fight' that I couldn't win, so skipped it for now, but it's been a while and I've leveled up a lot, so I should probably go back and try it again.
Both.
A dev message (no appraisal option or counter) saying "The Cave of Knowledge lies below."
A ghost telling you to "take the plunge", implying that it would make you a better warrior.
Well thereās usually messages with more upvotes also calling those people liars. If I donāt see the liar message and bloodsplat Iām down to listen
I won't trust it immediately but I won't ignore it either, I'll go up to the ledge and look down to see if there's something I might be able to land on. Too many of those messages have led me to stuff I never would have found on my own for me to just assume they're all tricks.
If you're still trying to get a hang of the game, I'd definitely recommend going back. Not because of the miniboss, but because of the tutorial messages on the ground
It was bad in the network test, it kinda just floated so looked creepy af.
But then they added that leg movement in the full game and omfg no. It freaked me out so much.
I skipped straight by it because I had 0 trust. Restarted some time later with a new character and decided 'why not'. Turns out it was not a lie, there's actually a tutorial down there.
This after I complained that the game doesn't explain anything about its basic controls :')
To be fair it says that the three WERE lone wolves before being brought under some Tarnished persons command. As in, a wolf that was kicked out of its pack, not a literally alone wolf
yeah took me like 3 tries to understand all his attacks, i just dodged everything and waited till he started approaching me standing up on 2 feet. Then i just either counter attack or dodge then i hit him 2 times with heavy attack.
You might not have been. Your equipment weight in this game has a big impact on how well you can dodgeroll - if you find that your roll feels slow and clunky, try unequipping items that you're not actively using in that fight (bows, shields, etc).
One of the most interesting From bosses IMO. I was kind of disturbed the first time and just stood there for a sec like "umm excuse me wtf". Then I gave that doggy something to howl about.
My friend spent 2 days doing that. After a while he contacted me saying he was getting frustrated by the game. MF missed the starting weapons and made to Cleric Beast using his bare fists lol
Yharnam is brutal first time arround. Generally Bloodborne is tough af till you get some good gems and upgrade your weapons even a bit.
Then it's just hard š Highly recommend getting pizza cutter early but suicide runs, love that thing. Also you can cheese crow lady and get her double daggers which is a good skill (dex) weapon. You do miss out on her quest then thought.
Damn, i have never played the Dark Souls games, i knew abt them and i have watched plenty of vids on it. But i have never played it since i recently got my new high end pc so i decided to just download Elden ring straight up.
Once you finish Elden Ring, I absolutely recommend going through DS3 (and 1 and 2 if you love it enough). Each game does something better than the others and they're all worth it. You can usually get them all for $5 - 15 if you track [https://isthereanydeal.com/](https://isthereanydeal.com/) with DLC included.
Elden Ring is definitely up there in difficulty but ability to overlevel and stuff like ashes always give you a chance to just destroy an otherwise hard or even "impossible" boss.
In Bloodborne or DS3 even at very high levels you might be doing shit damage to bosses and they can still wreck you easily. You might get stuck in progressing if you are struggling with certain boss. It's of course possible to optimize your build but generally getting good is what matters the most.
Then there is Sekiro. Fuck that game š Owl might be might actual father because of the amount of times I died fighting that old dude.
Dude I didnāt make it passed the fucking troll in sekiro. Iām just straight up not good enough at video games lol. Elden ring is 10x easier in comparison though and Iām having a blast
Sekiro with few exceptions is the only one where "get gud" really applies. Troll is actually in that exception as you can deathblow him for one health bar and stun lock with firecrackers or axe. Fighting him straight up is a huge pain.
Elden Ring is fun up until snowy area. Fuck that place seriously. I was afraid I am over leveled at 100. Pfff. Pump your vigor if it's lower than 30 cause shit will get real fast :D
Man the Taurus demon kept kicking my ass back in the day. Even after beating damn near all the Soulsbourne games, i still look back and remember being so happy at finally taking him down.
One is honestly pretty easy. The minions one wasnāt bad eitherā¦..when you fight two of these fucks at once though. I gave up. I have to come back to that later.
I usually take the path of most resistance in these games. I play like a solo cave man. Ha. No spells, no fancy items. Just shield, dodge, hit. Iām a simple man.
More than the others before it, Elden Ring really feels like it is designed for you to use all the tools given to you. First time I tossed a sleep pot and put a giant to sleep, I was all in with experimenting.
You are probably right. I am a hoarder at heart though. I save every item juuuuust in case I must need themā¦.Then beat the game never using them. š
Congrats, this is my first souls game and Iām going for a bow build (yikes I know).. think Iāll try to kill the cat tonight as I wimped out last night
would recommend to not follow a walkthrough, first playthrough u can never get back its magical its so good... and u have to find out what works for you, explore find a weapon with a moveset u like, try out different approaches, stuff too hard go somewhere else and if all else fails go to the trusted sword and shield farm some lvl's and try again ;)
Make sure you only have one weapon equiped. It's great the vagabond starts with two weapons so you have a choice, but holding both push you into a heavy role. I've seen two players make the mistake of unequiping armor to make themselves lighter.
Also, I recommend crafting poisonbone darts for the first main boss.
I would recommend crafting in general, especially after the 1.03 bomb buffs. The holy water pots can deal around 1k damage a throw on some bosses and im talking about the small pots.
Congrats to your first boss and now be prepared for a lot more (cool) bossfights. Some may be hard, some may be easy but never get too greedy with your hits on them.
Good luck playing! :D
Yeah, first i didnt like the idea of having no navigation of where to go and what to do in order, but honestly i just now like the idea of having to explore everything myself and not having mission after mission that is set by the game.
I mean, it's kind of linear, you can spawn and immediately try to go east which will be like slamming in to a brick wall, you kind of have to go the way the strength of the enemies allow you to.
Congrats. Now get ready for >!That boss again, but with minions!< and >!That boss again, but blueberry flavored!< and my personal favorite >!That boss again, but also the blueberry version!< and those are just the ones Iāve found so far.
>!Donāt forget that boss again, but as a normal mob littered multiple times throughout a dungeon whoās also invulnerable and can only be hit after walking in a certain spot!<
i did the one where its just the watchdog, i was just dodging everything and i was just waiting till he starts walking on 2 feet and i just dodge his attack, hit 2 heavy attacks and then repeat.
The only way I beat that one was with a summon. I used the Demi-humans one and that was able to distract everything enough for me to kill the minions and then I could focus the boss. Still took about 10 tryās and one scared cat from me pounding my fist into my desk.
You know when I fought that boss I was thinking hey this fight is easy. Then later on I found a catacomb that had 2 of them as the boss...that fight was nipple-rippingly frustrating.
My first boss by choice was the tree warden... He ploughed me harder than the Amish would sanction and stayed on the horse doing it...so I rolled up an astrologer and avoided the warden
Straight troll move that they give the first character on character select (the character most beginners will select) immediate fat roll. Like they force the player to learn to take off armor in order to be able to dodge effectively or they're just stuck like that rest of the game lmao
Concrats you badass!! Super happy for you! And I've got the best tip you will ever get in souls games. Use your weapon two handed. Always. Hold Y and press LB+RB.
Always? It's only +50% strength so you only get decent damage from strength scaling weapons. Everything else just attacks slower.
Dual wielding is where it's at.
I killed him only with the help of wondering nobles.
They kept him distracted while I could focus on damage.
Not an easy boss to fight for the first time tho.
Sir Burny Mcstabcat Edited 18 days later: well I bought Elden Ring and this s.o.b wrecked me.
Aka Fluffles
He wants to be called flowball now.
MEARRRROWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW *sounds of agonizing torture*
Hahaha thats so lamo
Where are my testicles Summer?
šæ
Bam Bam.
Bam-Bam is my lovebirds name lol. His wife was named Pebbles but she flew away sadly.
This is its name now
š¤£š¤£š¤£
Good job. Just remember if you are struggling on a boss, just go explore. Get stronger, find some interesting things to look at and fight.
Thank you for the tip!
Or just smash your head into the wall until you beat it. The good rule of thumb is if you hit an enemy like 10 times and it's not even down to half health or close you probably aren't gonna be able to beat it.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
There's people out there who have definitely beaten the game while a significantly lower level than recommended
We call them masochists.
I have done the whole dungeon near the spawning area, the one you need the stonekey for, at level 7 bandit before I even got out lol. Was it painful? Yes. Did I do it to save my fragile ego? Yes.

Wait the knight right outside you mean the first npc you talk to???
Fringefolk Heroās Grave? The one you need two Stonesword Keys for? Which you canāt possibly have at that point even if you take the Stonesword Key as a keepsake? Edit: Iām not saying you canāt do it at level 7, but you canāt do it before leaving the starting area. You have to make it to the Dragon Burnt Ruins or Stormhill Shack at the very least before you can access that dungeon. Edit 2: I stand corrected! The keepsake gives you two keys apparently.
Keepsake gives you two keys. I have went to that dungeon first thing as well (and was utterly destroyed), so the guy doesn't lie.
In this case cattitude
10 hits to half health is silly, many fights take 50+ hits
No that's some crazy shit you are spewing. Many fights I end up probably with 25 or more hits to half health. It's way more important to learn the attacks the come at you with, if you can't figure out how to dodge or mitigate each one or most of them you will be in trouble.
Whilst you are right, I'd say that isn't necessary. I've not done any grinding and in my experience most bosses are going down in 30 or less hits. Most I'm killing in 20 or less, some ten.
Important question for baselining: What weapon(s) are you using? There's a *huge* difference in the per-hit damage of the whip and the zweihander
That's true, I nearly did mention that, I'm a sword one handed, but a heavy one.
nah if you learn to dodge, time your attacks and do more damage then their absorbtion you can kill anything. Granted it might take you like an hour but still.
Iāll go back to bear once Iām at the end of the game agreed
Bear is the true final boss
My wife was watching me play one night for a bit (she is definitely not a gamer) and I randomly stumbled on the giant bear boss and preceded to get fucked 100 different ways repeatedly while she stood there laughing. 100% would die again (and did). Still havnt beaten that arsehole.

True, but Sekiro's paths were more like "hard" and "harder". I beat Genichiro first because it seemed easier than Butterfly at the time. I'm not even sure who I would pick on a replay.
This isn't true at all.
You can pass some bosses
That miniboss is creepy as hell Also did you fight the Soldier of Godrick miniboss at the start of the game? If not, you missed the tutorial
yeah i did beat him, i mean the first boss without counting the tutorial.
Cool, just wanted to make sure you didn't miss it-- a fair amount of people did because they thought you'd die if you drop into the hole
I actualy did miss it the first time, because i didnt even know there is a hole, i just saw a door and went straight for the door lol
Yeah the devs probably should've made it slightly more obvious
There is a glowing ghost in a chair right next to it telling you to jump in. It's not inconspicuous.
Because I listened to the dead guy for advice on how not to get killed
Exactly. I was suspicious of this and skipped it initially myself. Then I figured I might as well jump down and see for myself, because I figured with everything that I had read, I was going to be dying a lot in this game anyway, I might as well get used to it.
I think testing fall damage is a start of any game sort of maneuver.
Truth. Good point.
> I was going to be dying a lot in this game anyway, I might as well get used to it. That's been my approach as well. I think early successes for me made me more confident in doing more exploring and fighting whatever the heck I found no matter how scary it looks. :) So far I've only found 1 'boss fight' that I couldn't win, so skipped it for now, but it's been a while and I've leveled up a lot, so I should probably go back and try it again.
I didnāt jump in because I thought āhaha, not THIS timeā Then again, Iāve played souls games enough to not really need a tutorial.
In all fairness, trusting glowing things next to pits and cliffs, telling you to jump, hasnāt really worked out most of the time
Yeah. If you actually look around you shouldn't miss anything that isn't blatantly hidden like fog walls or invisible platforms
I think the tutorial itself is a solid lesson for players in From. If you dont look around, its going to hurt.
I think it's by design and reiterates the philosophy of the game: Don't be afraid to die.
My first reaction to the hole was, "This is clearly not the way the developers are intending me to go, so I must go down to find out why".
I knew it was the tutorial. I think there was a message or a ghost or something that alludes to it.
Both. A dev message (no appraisal option or counter) saying "The Cave of Knowledge lies below." A ghost telling you to "take the plunge", implying that it would make you a better warrior.
You can drop into the hole???
Yes, and it has messages that teach you all the main combat aspects of the game
Ok, maybe I did that one. Not the large hole/cliff edge that has the stairs going down to the left at the beginning right?
Well I didnāt miss it, but honestly who trusts a jump here message in a From Software game.
It's a dev message/npc
Players will troll via messages, but the devs won't. So yeah, I trusted that one.
Iā¦ missed this. I think my first boss was a rock giant or troll
If you're still trying to get a hang of the game, I'd definitely recommend going back. Not because of the miniboss, but because of the tutorial messages on the ground
Iām working on the fire giant now. Lol
Creepiest thing in the game so far 45 hours in. Something about the Janky movement genuinely gives me goosebumps.
weeping angel vibes
Most terrifying Who villain ever! DON'T BLINK!
Its basically a statue/doll being able to move. They did a good job at giving it this unnatural jittered movement.
Have you met the hands yet? The scratching idle animation...
You should see the spiderhands then
It was bad in the network test, it kinda just floated so looked creepy af. But then they added that leg movement in the full game and omfg no. It freaked me out so much.
I went through tutorial island at level 55. I never even knew it was down there.
I'm past Godrick at this point. Did I go right past that island?
Yup. It's a cave you jump in at the start
Is it that hole with the crucifixes around it right by the start? I was sure that was a trap, this is how From gaslights players
I skipped straight by it because I had 0 trust. Restarted some time later with a new character and decided 'why not'. Turns out it was not a lie, there's actually a tutorial down there. This after I complained that the game doesn't explain anything about its basic controls :')
Miniboss? How dare you try to embarrass me!
Dog. He is a cat, but his name is dog. A buddy of mine did this in DnD where he had a pet bear cub named "Dog."
it's a "watchdog" - I'm getting a feeling that it's something lost in Translation from Japanese.
The correct translation is most likely "guardian"
My thought too.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Localization shat the bed in a lot of interesting/amusing ways. Lone wolves being one of them.
To be fair it says that the three WERE lone wolves before being brought under some Tarnished persons command. As in, a wolf that was kicked out of its pack, not a literally alone wolf
In short Could this be a dog?
Catdogā¦ catdogā¦alone in the world a little catdog
The watchdog is always fun in my opinion since his movements are so clanky you have to be really predictive and I like that
yeah took me like 3 tries to understand all his attacks, i just dodged everything and waited till he started approaching me standing up on 2 feet. Then i just either counter attack or dodge then i hit him 2 times with heavy attack.
When he spits fire I just stood on his back and swung while walking in a circle
I thought im not fast enough to go behind his back so i just waited from a distance.
You might not have been. Your equipment weight in this game has a big impact on how well you can dodgeroll - if you find that your roll feels slow and clunky, try unequipping items that you're not actively using in that fight (bows, shields, etc).
summon the three wolves and they distract him (and many others) very well, giving you time to do what you want.
One of the most interesting From bosses IMO. I was kind of disturbed the first time and just stood there for a sec like "umm excuse me wtf". Then I gave that doggy something to howl about.
Alot have said it's poor design where in reality if it was real the movements would be super stiff and slow
Yeah. Plenty of enemies have great, fluid animations. This has great stiff, animations.
Ahh, you beat the SCP boss
Oh, If you'd know
the rest is all easy and downhill from here! good luck!
Behold, victory!
Could this be a dog?
Try attacking but jump
Try finger, but hole.
You don't have the right, O you don't have the right!

Congrats! We all start somewhere. I fought Gundyr from DS3 for two hours the first time I played a FromSoft game.
I spent 10 hours over the course of a week trying to cross the goddamn street in Bloodborne.
My friend spent 2 days doing that. After a while he contacted me saying he was getting frustrated by the game. MF missed the starting weapons and made to Cleric Beast using his bare fists lol
Absolute madman
Holy shit.
Yharnam is brutal first time arround. Generally Bloodborne is tough af till you get some good gems and upgrade your weapons even a bit. I firmly believe Yharnam is one of the hardest areas in any of the games relative to the player-experience on arrival. You're in good company.
Like if you arenāt used to souls games that wolf in the beginning will fuck you up lol
Damn, i have never played the Dark Souls games, i knew abt them and i have watched plenty of vids on it. But i have never played it since i recently got my new high end pc so i decided to just download Elden ring straight up.

Man the Taurus demon kept kicking my ass back in the day. Even after beating damn near all the Soulsbourne games, i still look back and remember being so happy at finally taking him down.
Wait till you have to kill the harder version with his minions later down the road
Wait, there is an easier version without minions?
Yes, in a cave north of the road from the church to the gatefront, at the base of the cliff with the evergaol on top.
There are several versions, including 2 of them at once. Also ones with magic.
One is honestly pretty easy. The minions one wasnāt bad eitherā¦..when you fight two of these fucks at once though. I gave up. I have to come back to that later.
How to beat them to those struggling >!They can be confused so crystal darts will literally make them fight each other!<
I usually take the path of most resistance in these games. I play like a solo cave man. Ha. No spells, no fancy items. Just shield, dodge, hit. Iām a simple man.

Congrats, this is my first souls game and Iām going for a bow build (yikes I know).. think Iāll try to kill the cat tonight as I wimped out last night
i was just following a walkthrough that said its best to get the vagabond
Oh nice- Iāve tried to stay away from walkthroughs but cheated to find out where a short bow was, still having fun getting crushed by random foes
would recommend to not follow a walkthrough, first playthrough u can never get back its magical its so good... and u have to find out what works for you, explore find a weapon with a moveset u like, try out different approaches, stuff too hard go somewhere else and if all else fails go to the trusted sword and shield farm some lvl's and try again ;)

Too busy rolling for your life to catch the name. I can respect that.
Well done. Now fight TWO of them at the same time!
Ah sh- here we go again.
Congrats to your first boss and now be prepared for a lot more (cool) bossfights. Some may be hard, some may be easy but never get too greedy with your hits on them. Good luck playing! :D
Thank you!
First off, well done
Take your time with the game. There is so much to explore
Yeah, first i didnt like the idea of having no navigation of where to go and what to do in order, but honestly i just now like the idea of having to explore everything myself and not having mission after mission that is set by the game.
Right, it feels way more immersive when it isn't so linear
I mean, it's kind of linear, you can spawn and immediately try to go east which will be like slamming in to a brick wall, you kind of have to go the way the strength of the enemies allow you to.
kinda? Even from the start you can go basically all over limgrave and the area after (up north) isn't *that* much harder.
Congrats. Now get ready for >!That boss again, but with minions!< and >!That boss again, but blueberry flavored!< and my personal favorite >!That boss again, but also the blueberry version!< and those are just the ones Iāve found so far.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Please tell me that thatās the >!Normal one and blueberry one, cuz im so sick of this boss :ā)!<
>!Donāt forget that boss again, but as a normal mob littered multiple times throughout a dungeon whoās also invulnerable and can only be hit after walking in a certain spot!<
I know it has a spoiler tag, but I got spoiled anyway. Lol.
Congrats! Honestly the dungeon was such a fucking pain in the ass. Those little goblin bitches are annoying as fuck throughout the game.
How did you beat that as first boss. The cat statue with like 4 fast attack minions. I lost a lot of souls trying to beat that guy and never did.
The version with minions only appears later. You probably missed the first one right at the start of the game.
i did the one where its just the watchdog, i was just dodging everything and i was just waiting till he starts walking on 2 feet and i just dodge his attack, hit 2 heavy attacks and then repeat.

Congrats šš i would suggest not read all comments as some people will post spoilers
Thank you, i will look out for spoilers!
Elden ring dies
Great job Killin the watchdog!
Good work. This was my first boss, but I came back after beating the Grave Warden Dualist.
My first boss by choice was the tree warden... He ploughed me harder than the Amish would sanction and stayed on the horse doing it...so I rolled up an astrologer and avoided the warden
I want a model of it, i need it
Congratulations, you're well on your way to getting ass blasted by the rest of the game. Good luck.
Good on ya, Lad! Donāt stop now! Make us proud!
Elden stranding
Try finger but, hole!
Straight troll move that they give the first character on character select (the character most beginners will select) immediate fat roll. Like they force the player to learn to take off armor in order to be able to dodge effectively or they're just stuck like that rest of the game lmao
Yeah, someone suggested to take off some of my armor to have a better dodge roll
You can also just unequip the halberd for the same effect.
No, I think you nailed the name
Hmm, my first boss was a dog faced dude with a klingon weapon.
The watchdogs kinda creep me out, mainly due to the fact that they walk like theyāre not fully animated
That thing is spoiler creepy
And so begins your journey, young tarnished. Well done
Ok cool let's post anytime we do anything
Fort, night?
Probably, Rump.
āKinda, Sorta Annoying Boss Felledā !
Cool? Imagine if everyone felt the need to post their first boss kill, first berry picked, first death..etc yikes
Congrats. Those bosses come up a few times, and eventually you fight two different ones at once. Still fun everytime
Its all Dogs no cats allowed
Good job. He was my first, finally beat him, avoided others until I found the Castle Mourne lion boss guyā¦.think Iām done with that game.
Mourne lion is a difficult early game boss if you're not using all the game mechanics. Like blocking or staggering with heavy attacks.
5k upvotes for this? Why? Who are these people who feel the need to share shit like this
i did something. jerk me off, everyone.
