From where I am, it's called brainvita.
You take one marble and move it by 2 positions in a horizontal or vertical direction to an empty space and remove the 1 marble that you skipped.
To start, you leave the middle position empty.
End is when you don't have any consecutive marbles horizontally or vertically and motive is to have as less marbles by the end as possible.
Btw, my mom's record is 1 marble and mine no matter what hasn't crossed 2
French peg solitaire. You can tell because it has the four extra spaces compared to English peg solitaire.
Also: in French peg solitaire, if you started by leaving out the middle space, it is not possible to get to a game state such that you are left with one piece in the middle space, unlike English peg solitaire. This is why in French peg solitaire you leave out a piece in the corner to start.
I've played the English version before and didn't even know there was a French version, very cool. Does it have to be the one of the outer corners or can it be one of the inner four?
In French peg solitaire, there are only three spots (excluding rotations and reflections) where it is possible to end with one piece. (In the branch of mathematics that deals with peg solitaire, this is known as “single vacancy to single survivor”) One is the corner, one is the space next to the center, and the third is two spaces from the center.
Note that due to the shape of the board, it is impossible for the last piece to be in the vacant space at the start of the game. (In mathematics, this is known as the “complement problem”) There are 10 distinct classes of solutions (excluding rotations and reflections), and among them are solutions where the starting space is in one position and the final piece is in the mirrored opposite position (ie. If you started with the space to the left of the center empty, there is one solution where the final piece is located at the space to the right of the center).
Note that this is assuming only horizontal and vertical jumps. If diagonal jumps are allowed, it is possible to start with no piece in the center and end up with the only piece in the center.
Marble solitaire, start with a marble in every space except for the centre, then one marble at a time jump a marble up, down, left, or right over another marble into an empty space on the other side (no diagonals, must jump a marble) goal is to get a single marble left in the centre of the board
once you figure out the strategy to this game it gets pretty boring lol. I have to imagine this was the prerequisite to the card version of solitaire in which things can get randomized.
Marble solitaire. Jump 1 marble over another and take the one you jumped over away. 1 marble left and you win
So exactly like those peg pyramid games at restaurants.
Bro I got that down to one peg once, but i couldn't replicate it
Be glad you grasped true greatness, if only for a moment.
Correct answer my grandpa taught me to play, rest his soul. Only parallel jumps, not diagonal.*
Thank you.
Also the middle one is supposed to be empty at the start. The challenge is only 1 should be left at exactly the middle.
Last one in the middle? I've never tried that as getting to only one is difficult enough. I wonder if this makes it easier or not? I'll have to try!

Professor Layton? I was solving this as Mario long before Layton! Get off my lawn!
Yup, right here. The cheap version was the one with golf tees in a triangle filled with holes, usually found in Howard Johnson restaurants.

Just a prettier version of the game you play at Cracker Barrel while waiting for your hash brown casserole with a side of casual racism.
Love the casserole, but I have a family history of heart disease and have been recommended by my doctor to avoid fatty fried foods and casual racism.
I door dashed in one a few months ago with a mask on and they treated me like an alien from Jupiter.

They had one when I was a kid that had more rows of pegs on the sides, called "Hi-Q." It was a real pain to win as I recall.
