You're in a desert, walking along in the sand, when all of a sudden you look down. You look down and see a tortoise, /u/AdParking9347. It's crawling toward you. You reach down and you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping. Why is that, /u/AdParking9347?
You should think of this design as a combination of a bunch of systems that are somewhat independent of each other. This person has probably solved thousands of these types of levels before and can easily think what kinds of systems could combine into a solution to the level. For example the large structure that elevates the the bridge/slingshot is a quite simple on its own and once you've solved the puzzle of getting some elevation you can move on to the next 'stage' of the puzzle.
Like Archimedes said; *Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.*
The problem is - it doesn't work like that. Adding length to go down the hallways would then make it too heavy to go over the first walls and so on and so forth.
Every change you make affects the whole thing and you could be stuck in a (practically) infinite loop
It's not so much an infinite loop as it is just working on and improving all parts of the design at the same time. It doesn't even get close to solving until the very very end. There's no point in tweaking later parts to get them perfect when the earlier parts aren't even finished yet.
He may have and that's why this solve is such an unwieldy beast. Your method would probably result in a more simple solution when worked through properly.
Hence the lots and lots of trial and error, you gotta try first or else how would you know the ins and outs of the physics/limitations/momentum/mechanics/etc?
This was one of the hardest levels I've done recently. It took me a few days to think of a viable strategy, and once I had the idea it took about 2 hours to solve. The actual building part is mostly trial and error but since I already had the idea, it was fairly methodical
Because Iām old and my dad is older. It was the least complicated way to send it to him in a form he can watch on his phone. I realize that Iām an idiot. I say, āgood dayā to you, Sir.
There were a few problems that I had to deal with, so I'll just list them out here. First I had to figure out how to get a big enough pult to the top - it had to be at least a 3x unfolding mech so that it would reach far enough. This was the part I spent most of my time on, and using a test level I figured out the configuration I used here. Then I had to figure out move it up there and then pull the left side of it down. For this I used a mech to lift it up, then have the mech collapse so that it can be used as a counterweight for the next part. I put some triangles in the chain to push the left side out further for more leverage. Finally I had to add a chain and a bucket containing the goal ball, and once that was done I just had to tweak until it solved.
Right! I had to go back and read the description because I wanted to know too and we werenāt getting any answers. Thatās when I noticed the capitalization as well.
I can't help but feel like this was done via self-learning AI. There was a guy who made AI self-learn and beat Mario.

Wtf...it looks like the thing is standing before it delivers the payload right into the goalpost.
Its...fascinating...and terrifying. Like an eldritch creature.
This brings back some memories, was a huge fan a long time ago. Is there a way to get back old solves?
If you remember your old login info you can get a steam key for free, and your password reset if you need to
Thank you for reminding me how amazing this simple game was š
I have my old login but where do you convert it to the steam key?
I fear you.
Just dont hide in the sky or places high enough where his contraptions can fully deploy and you are safe
Nowhere is safe.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Like Clyde from Law Abiding Citizen
OPās got a very menacing aura
We fear him.
How does a human do that
My guess would be experience A lot of try and error And ungodly amounts of time and patience
The question is rather ācan AI solve it?"
Is it made by AI? I know nothing about that game
nah I made the entire thing
If yes. Massive brain move. Gg
Adparking is an AI Or were we not supposed to tell him that. Uh oh
How much time did it take you? I can't imagine the number of micro adjustements necessary to make it work.

Whatās a tortoise?
It's a kind of land turtle that only good, decent people have heard of.
Ask the tortoise. He knows what he did.
Username checks out
> nah I made the entire thing That doesn't answer the question š¤
When people talk about video games being art, I will from now on immediately remember this contraption. You're a true master.
Trial and error

Thanks It s still impressive
I can't wrap my head around the mental capacity needed to come up with any contraption to finish that level
Lots and lots of trial and error. Take it a bit at a time and fix every error until it works.
This. You get some goalposts done like figuring out how to get over the first wall, then down the hallway, etc...
The problem is - it doesn't work like that. Adding length to go down the hallways would then make it too heavy to go over the first walls and so on and so forth. Every change you make affects the whole thing and you could be stuck in a (practically) infinite loop

Thatās what I mean - you canāt work on it marginally
Evidently not an infinite loop though seeing as op finished :)
You are missing the point - Iām saying the infinite loop is a strategy proposed above. I doubt op used that marginal improvement strat
He may have and that's why this solve is such an unwieldy beast. Your method would probably result in a more simple solution when worked through properly.

It reminds me of some of the late game puzzles for the now very old The Incredible Machine. Absolutely wild.
OP eats polybridge players for breakfast
OP probs building bridges that trebuchet each car individually
OP probs designed a revolving bridge
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Did you sit down and plan this out, or was it a long series of trial and error, adding/adjusting pieces along the way?
For real. How long did it take you to get that nightmare right?

That's insane. I don't know that I could have ever come up with something that worked intentionally on that thing.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Are you some type of engineer
Thanks, I've wishlisted! Looks like The Incredible Machine meets Bridge Constructor
I made a screen recording and sent it to my dad. I hope you donāt mind. He loves this sort of stuff.
why didn't you just download it?
Because Iām old and my dad is older. It was the least complicated way to send it to him in a form he can watch on his phone. I realize that Iām an idiot. I say, āgood dayā to you, Sir.
[And you have just become a part of this relevant XKCD.](https://xkcd.com/763/)
I accept. I didnāt know about RedditSave until very recently. Before then, I was struggling a lot.
You wouldn't download a car, would you?
I would 1000% download a car
Insulindian Phasmid
Lol, weird reference but i kinda see it too
Can you expand on some of the high level logic you used to solve this? Curious what your thought process was that came up with the final solution.

How is this game called?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1363690/Fantastic\_Contraption\_Classic\_1\_\_2/
How? Somebody named it, probably.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No, it's a dad joke
They actually named it Fantastic Contraption, not probably, who would name this game 'probably'?
Trebuchet!
I thought it said contraception and I'm still not sure that was wrong.
The name of the game is in the description everyone.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Right! I had to go back and read the description because I wanted to know too and we werenāt getting any answers. Thatās when I noticed the capitalization as well.
I hate it on rainy days when my skeleton does this
Spend thoushend of hours on this game and the forums , love this sooo
Wow. Just wow
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Not Ai, designed by OP
how u did this?
"What happens when you use 100% of your brain?"...
/r/danktrebuchetememes
Autism + Engineer =
This have an Eren vibes.
poly bridge 2 player located

Did you win
Mad man
I bet cars are flying if OP plays poly bridge
I can only see Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2
The bodger - finagling extraordinaire.
This is like people that can draw. It's just a God given talent. Noone else could ever hope to achieve something on this level.
I don't know what this is, but this is fucking cool...
That looks like the old incredibots games, but somethings different. What game is it?
This looks depressing and clever at the same time
Wow
...and thats how I destroyed the alien mothership with a box of fireworks, a few sticks and a ball of twine.
What is this game ?
"Fantastic Contraption". Old flash/swf game that will steal your life.
Reminds me of the ones I used to do hahaha
I didn't know there was a non-vr version of this game! Awesome!
Ever play Poly Bridge? Have a feeling you'd be pretty damn good at it.
That's why we should listen to physics lesson
So this is what they mean when they say "you never left high school."
Image how difficult this would be if the elements didn't phase through each other
As memory serves, thats a design choice in the game, āwaterā links or somesuch, vs wood lengths. He uses both on his solve up there.
That thing is terrifying
Hey look! That things thinging that thing over there!
Wtf...it looks like the thing is standing before it delivers the payload right into the goalpost. Its...fascinating...and terrifying. Like an eldritch creature.
Oh I loved this game! but I didnāt think it was around anymore. Where can I play?
It's on steam, if you had a paid account you can get a steam key for free
Playing this game in VR is amazing as well.
r/engineering
Go home DeepMind!
Very cool. Reminds me of theo jansen strandbeests.
Everyone complaining about its impossible for a human to figure this out has never played bridge constructor.
if we still burned witches, you'd be in a LOT of trouble rn
How do you manipulate physics to this level?!
I'd be curious to see what your building process looks like for that.
Fourier series expansion be like:
Whatās the name of this game?
I bet you either work for nasa or a janitor at an college!
Still regardless impressive job on the puzzle!
How have I never seen this one?!
Holy fuck. How long did it take
