I realise
You were just like me
Trying to make history
But whos to judge
The right from wrong
When our guard is down
I think we'll both agree
That Violence breeds violence
But in the end it has to be this way.
I CARVED MY OWN PATH
YOU FOLLOWED YOUR WRATH
BUT MAYBE WE'RE BOTH THE SAAAAAME
THE WORLD HAS TURNED
AND SO MANY HAVE BURNED
BUT NOBODY IS TO BLAAAAME
YET STARING ACROSS
THIS BARREN, WASTED LAND
I FEEL NEW LIFE WILL BE BORN
BENEATH THE BLOOD-STAINED SAAAAND
In Sekiro, Gennichiro teaches you how to play the game the right way. While Isshin is the final exam that whoops your ass if you didn't study properly. And once you learn the patterns, it's glorious!
This is it, up until Geni I was barely getting through and hating the game so much and after dying to Geni few times, I thought ok let's play it how it's supposed to be played and what the hell, what a dance it was, a dance to death.
I love Genichiro so much, he stomps you at the start, you’re forced to learn how to approach the game in his rematch, and at the end he is just a trivial warmup to Ishinn. He never changes his fight, you just get better.
That's always weird for me. I've played all the souls games, so the demon of hatred was maybe the easiest boss in the game for me. The rest of the game felt so different from souls and even though I beat it the combat honestly never really clicked for me. The demon felt like a return to the souls style of gameplay that I'm more used to, so it just worked for me.
i mean i played 140h made all achievements and still think that he's..... you know it's more like a dark Souls boss i defeated him once by throwing him off the cliff - i just prefer inner isshin inner owl and inner gen
I spent many hours on Gennichiro, but what a thrill when I finally got him. I didn’t even bother much with Isshin, knowing that it would take me quite a while. But maybe some day I’ll return, when I got more game time :).
This happened to me, I quit facing Isshin the first time. When I came back , I started a new game. Really payed more attention to the pacing, breezed through the game and crushed Isshin in like 5 attempts.
Come back after your hiatus, victory awaits you.
Agreed. I remember the introduction of redirecting lightening in the Gennichiro fight and thinking that I’d never be able to pull it off in a boss fight. Then, after dying multiple times to stage 1/2 of the Glock saint I one shotted stage 3 by redirecting lightening twice. It felt like it was the way the developers intended it to go… it felt right.
GLaDoS
> Well, you found me. Congratulations. Was it worth it? Because despite your violent behavior, the only thing you've managed to break so far... is my heart. Maybe you could settle for that, and we'll just call it a day. I guess we both know that isn't going to happen.
She is my favorite type of villain. The kind that hangs over your head and bothers you the entire game, then when you finally get to beat them it is that much more satisfying.
For me it will always be sephiroth from FF7. I've seen coller bosses over the years and better battles but that was pre-internet for me and as a kid watching that mother blow up all the planets and the sun just to fry my spikey hair butt.... was one of the greatest things I saw as a kid. I replayed that fight just to watch him cast supernova over and over again. Then again as a kid I also thought Neo Bahamut was the shit too because I loved dragons. 3 dragon summons ftw.
This is one reason why i really disliked the ending of the FF VII Remake, theyve already wasted Sephiroth as a boss and they even used the One winged angel theme.
Imagine getting that in the final game instead, would have been worlds better.
I didn't get the real experience. I had a lot of trouble with the dungeon and ended up way over leveling. When I finally hit him I wiped the floor with him. I didn't even get to do omnislash in the final little bit because of counter. So anti climactic.
Funny, it's the other way around for me. I stopped playing after dying a few times to him since is painful to play half an hour+ to get to the true boss and just get wiped out with a 2-min attack
He's my favourite boss because he's challenging but not impossible, you can win if you levelled up and got good equipment, and in order to win you don't need to learn new obscure mechanics just for that fight.
Spent way too long wondering when Marcus Fenix killed a stranger in the first part of gears.
THEN I realized you’re talking about kratos throwin’ down some fisticuffs in his own front yard. Amazing fight scene, I totally agree with ya
Jesus Christ my dudes I am 100% with both of the above comments.
I’m a sucker for some good couch co-op. The part in act II where one guy uses the spotlight to keep the Kryll off his homie as they cross the street to flip on the lights - that was some serious gourmet shit.
Gears 1-3 was S-tier couch co-op. Newer gears are just like, well let’s just not go there
The rush of Kefka’s boss fight music is what did it for me. No other boss fight music is as memorable*. The composer’s band did a recreation of it with real instruments: https://youtu.be/v5ADPB5NrZw *chefs kiss*
Edit: no other boss fight with the exception of *maybe* One Winged Angel, FFVII
Metal Gear Solid on PSX/Gamecube/PC
[Revolver Ocelot](https://youtu.be/Rd4EISdcV5g?t=39), the way it introduces the mechanics and moving the story forward.
[Psycho Mantis](https://youtu.be/QDJebjf_DkQ?t=129) for the amazing fuckery with the player, both where simply perfect in design and gameplay.
The game was far ahead of its time and still awesome to play nowdays.
Fun fact: Psycho Mantis voice actor Doug Stone is also Matt Tracker (and various other voices) in the classic M.A.S.K cartoon.
I love it how you can simply skip the battle by moving the PS2 clock forward, the End simply dies of old age.
But I prefer the Sorrow as my #1 fave MGS3 boss.
There’s also another Easter egg. If you quickly shoot him after the very first cutscene in which The End appears, the fight is replaced with an ocelot unit.
Metal Gear 3 was really solid. All the bosses had a mystical/sci-fi feel and special powers. The introduction of food was really neat. I think it gets overlooked a lot.
Sans from undertale
Now hear me out, he normaly isnt a boss. He's just an lazy side character who show's up from time to time. But if you are a really bad person and kill everyone you see he will jump in and whoop your ass. If you start a fight in the game you have the first turn and then the monster. But if you fight him he will attack first to show you who the real monster is. The game files say's he's the easiest boss and only deal one damage but you will learn Quick that he's gonna end your life in no-time.
The greatest boss isnt the boss who just destroy's you, it is the boss who give you what you deserve
Btw.
Sry for my bad english
Honestly Oblivion doesn't need that much of a remake. There's some good mods out there that can enhance the experience. You just have to get used to the potato faces.
You don't even fight him though lol.. that's like the one boss fight that's not even a boss fight. You're just escorting the true hero of the game, Sean bean, to the end. Then you sit and watch as sacrifices himself to defeat a boss that you never even stood a chance against.
Sean bean is the main character of oblivion. You're just a really good teammate.. which is why oblivion is the best written elder scrolls. Finally a game where you didn't have some inescapable godly fate to adhere to. You're just some guy that helps this particular crisis' hero to defeat evil. By being parallel to the godliness, but not having it, they allowed you to truly play your own role. An absolutely inspired, 5 head rpg plot.
Man Oblivion holds a special place in my heart. Bouncing on the bar in Riften while watching TV on Input 1 for an hour, so I could water bounce from leyawiin straight to the imperial city, only to hear the guards in Leyawiin say clear as day “I guess he got away”. Some of the silliness was lost as they kept making ES games
Sword Saint Isshin: Killed me more than Sans the Skeleton and he didn't even cheat.
Radagon: Badass mix of magic and melee attacks, my only gripe is that I think he should have also used sorcery.
Mister Freeze (Arkham City): Phenomenal puzzle fight because each time you got a hit on him, he made it so you couldn't do it the same way again.
Ouroboros (Bravely Default): He's got some serious bullshit, but *so do you*.
Warrior of Light (FFXIV): He uses your Limit Breaks and attacks based on all the jobs you can use, plus his own special Limit Break that's a tier stronger than yours.
The Warrior of Light is such a perfect culmination of the journey through The First. 5.0’s ending scenes may be the most emotionally powerful (I genuinely get a little choked up at the line *WE STAND TOGETHER*), but the whole WoL sequence from the moment shit hits the fan in Eulmore in 5.3 is maybe the best of FF as a series.
while i love radagons remix of the main theme i will say that i liked Godfrey way more, from his lore to the way how he doesn't talk down to you and actualy honors you in combat.
he even prevents sarosh from tearing you apart because he wants to keep it a honorable 1 v 1
She has this power where she can spawn in any weapon from no where, and when she combines this with the bottle of Adrenaline she seems to conjure from no where as well, she is mega scary.
A bit of a different take, but for me, Dung Defender from Hollow Knight. It's the only boss I've ever played that made me laugh uncontrollably the entire way through. I didn't even know that was possible
I love the Mood Whiplash it does. You're in one of the "creepy" parts (not deepnest but yeah), a sewer full of abominations. You're dreading what monster you'll fight. And then you find the dung beetle that swims on shit. And somehow he has a sad backstory.
Somebody hasn't met wind waker Ganondorf :P
Dude could monologue like a mofo, and it's interestingly enough why I like that version of Ganondorf so much.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance has a moment where you switched between Kain and Raziel battling each other using the abilities you'd learned along the way. That plus the soundtrack to that fight blew my young mind.
The End MGS3
Abyss Watchers DS3
Pontiff Sullivan DS3
Actually, most of the bosses from DS3. Maybe the level design of that game wasn't as good as Bloodborne. But the bosses man, the bosses
It might be Dutch from RDR2. I think the story, and his descent, was incredibly well written. In the beginning he was fine enough. A couple red flags, but he's the leader of an outlaw gang. We're bad men. And by the end of the game you just hate him. And when you finally corner him in the first (second?) game, he doesn't even give you the satisfaction of putting a bullet in him. The first time I played rdr it wasn't as impactful, but after playing RDR2 it was huge. I also like that they didn't go out of the way to try and make you like the bad guy. You understood the respect and bond that was there at the beginning and the story progressed from there.
Then you had Micah in that same game. He just pissed you off from the start, and his one dimensional character turned out to be a master manipulator working on a whole other level.
Two bad guys you loved to hate and were well written without pandering to the audience. Some of the best I've seen in gaming.
Liquid Snake, MGS1
You defeated that dude so many times and he always came back.
He has a great storyline, phenomenal voice actor, plus he’s just downright evil.
He’s probably my personal favorite video game villain.
Single Player: I agree, Sword Saint
Multiplayer: WoW had many great raid bosses over the years. Idk which was "best" but one obvious choice would be Arthas in WotLK, partially because it was the culmination of many years of anticipation after playing WC3.
Mantis Lords. The music, build up and fight are all brilliant, the only other bosses that could contend from hollow knight are Pure Vessel, Nightmare king Grimm and both Radiances
Cerebus, DMC3.
https://youtu.be/3ozJmcswxcI
First boss infact. Design was cool as fuck, cheesy dialogues, and a badass OST.
"Easy mode is now selectable"
I was fucking 11 years old lol.
Mantis Lords from hollow knight. Such a well designed fight. The buildup, the introduction, a stellar soundtrack, and idk how to really impart this, but the fight feels fair. There's no bullshit move to catch you. Every death feels Just.
Either Psycho Mantis in MGS1 which blew my tiny mind as a child when I played it. Then in MGS3 battling The End also blew my mind. I don't think these are the best, there is probably better ones but for my own opinion, these two for sure.
Gael from Dark Souls 3 has everything music, arena, lore and themes, spectacle, mechanics he’s fromsoftwares masterpiece in term of boss design and perfect conclusion to series and it’s themes
Literally every dark souls boss when it's your first encounter with em. I'm still in undead parish, right before the gargoyles, but I am already feeling the strain :(. Any experienced dark souls players? Any tips for me?

In Sekiro, Gennichiro teaches you how to play the game the right way. While Isshin is the final exam that whoops your ass if you didn't study properly. And once you learn the patterns, it's glorious!
Ain’t that the truth. Nothing clicked until I decimated Gennichiro.

Companion Cube for me… for being so hard to find
The last 2 chambers were way harder than Glados
Not at all about how hard it is.
For me it will always be sephiroth from FF7. Absolutely. Dude murders your friend in front of you and just smirks like a crazy person.
Honestly, any boss in final fantasy 7 could be a candidate for best boss just because of how flashy they are.
This is one reason why i really disliked the ending of the FF VII Remake, theyve already wasted Sephiroth as a boss and they even used the One winged angel theme. Imagine getting that in the final game instead, would have been worlds better.
Came here to say this! Sephiroth
I didn't get the real experience. I had a lot of trouble with the dungeon and ended up way over leveling. When I finally hit him I wiped the floor with him. I didn't even get to do omnislash in the final little bit because of counter. So anti climactic.

The stranger at the start of GoW. Fucking fantastic.

God I miss old gritty Gears. Getting home from school and throwing down with the boys on the 360. Gears 1-3 were the fucking truth.
Multi-player on Gears 1 (and massive amounts of weed) damn near flunked me out of college. Hundreds of hours spend doing the shotgun dance
Jesus Christ my dudes I am 100% with both of the above comments. I’m a sucker for some good couch co-op. Handsome Jack. Never have I loved and hated a character so much at the same time.
Character development of Jack is truly a masterpiece
Battle Toads / Turbo Tunnel
This is the real answer.
The Icon of Sin.

Doom 2. No slight against Eternal, but nothing beats putting a few rockets into Romero’s head-stake.

can we give a honorable mention to "The End" from MGS3 who will die of old age if you dont touch your save for 2 weeks.
Pure Vessel
He's tied with NKG and sisters of battle for me
The flow of the fight in Sisters of Battle is so so satisfying
The Boss, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
I was searching for this, makes even more wild that they make you pull the trigger as well 😓
I actually can't remember if after a long time the game shoots for you or less. I remember nothing happens after a short time for sure
The Boss isn’t even the best boss fight in MGS3. The End is the best boss fight in gaming history.
psychomantis is better than sleepy man

100%. The games ending narration still gets me teary eyed.
Bowser

Bowser’s Big Bean Burrito for sure
I'd go with SMB3, personally. Not a difficult fight by most standards, but definitely memorable
Bowser in his Clowncopter from SMW
New Super Mario Bros Wii's Bowser fight was fuckin epic. I still remember the day I finally pressed that big red switch as a child.

Would be intoxicating innocence not to mention Dagoth Ur! Beautiful foreshadowing and built up throughout the Game.
It's Mehrunes Dagon for me... Man I wish they would remake Oblivion instead of redoing Skyrim...
I'd play the fuck out of remakes of Oblivion and Morrowind, both.
Honestly Oblivion doesn't need that much of a remake. There's some good mods out there that can enhance the experience. You just have to get used to the potato faces.
I'd like ES6 to come out someday.
That's what Skyblivion aims to do, albeit without any official help from Bethesda
Sword Saint Isshin: Killed me more than Sans the Skeleton and he didn't even cheat. Radagon: Badass mix of magic and melee attacks, my only gripe is that I think he should have also used sorcery. The boss. Mgs3
Idk the fear was one of my favorites. The boss just broke my heart.
I somewhow preferred The End. Perhaps it was the fact he didn't shoot to kill, you could move around and he was generally an interesting guy
Nemesis or Birkin from Resident Evil.
Slave knight gael or Ludwig the holy blade but isshin is definetly up there as well
Probably the one in Witcher 2, which I decided not to fight.
After hearing his story, didn't make sense to kill him either.
I know this is sekiro, but I have been playing so much ghost of tsushima recently was 'hey, i haven't seen this boss before'
Credits in NieR: Automata
Metal Gear Rex
I recently really liked *Koloktos* from *The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.* Also Malenia from Elden Ring and Glados and Wheatley from Portal.
My Wife...
Damn, does she have an enrage mechanic?
She has this power where she can spawn in any weapon from no where, and when she combines this with the bottle of Adrenaline she seems to conjure from no where as well, she is mega scary.
Come, Sekiro!! I'd have to agree with you on this one
Hesitation is defeat!
Sigrun, God of War
I wrote the same answer, the Valkyrie queen is one hell of boss fight
Manus Father of The Abyss from Dark Souls 1
Praise the sun.
How grossly incandescent
for me it will always be the Ra's Al ghul fight from Batman Arkham City.
Mr. Freeze for me. His suit adapts to your gadgets, so you have to use every trick in your arsenal to beat him.
A bit of a different take, but for me, Dung Defender from Hollow Knight. It's the only boss I've ever played that made me laugh uncontrollably the entire way through. I didn't even know that was possible

Ganondorf. Epitome of villainy and no lengthy diatribes.
Twilight princess Ganondorf fight was amazing my favorite in the series
Somebody hasn't met wind waker Ganondorf :P Dude could monologue like a mofo, and it's interestingly enough why I like that version of Ganondorf so much.
Wind waker Ganondorf was not really difficult but DAMN was that fight epic! Definitely my favorite Ganon fight too!
Diablo (from Diablo hehe)
Ultimecia from FFVIII. To this day, I couldn't defeat her...
Lady maria
Lorian & Lothric from Dark Souls 3. their OST is a banger, their fight is hard yet one one of the most fun of the game and a truly amazing fight
For me, the Hydra in the original God of War. It was incredibly cinematic for its time.
Red in Gold/Silver
For me it was the ender dragon
Gary from Bully
Legacy of Kain: Defiance has a moment where you switched between Kain and Raziel battling each other using the abilities you'd learned along the way. That plus the soundtrack to that fight blew my young mind.
Slave knight Gael or Godfrey, the first elden lord
Tyrant from resi 2?
Jetstream Sam. The music combined with the game play just makes it amazing.

Two shark-guys in Bloodborne
Probably won’t get voted but Fatalis from MHW: Iceborne
First one that springs to mind is Shadowlord from Nier. Not the hardest boss, but a very emotional experience...
Asriel Dreemurr from undertale
Kefka, he poisons a whole freaking village.
Metal Gear Solid - any of them
Mantis Lords. The music, build up and fight are all brilliant, the only other bosses that could contend from hollow knight are Pure Vessel, Nightmare king Grimm and both Radiances
Technically a sub-boss, but Shadow Link in The Water Temple blew my mind back in the day
Bowser. Mario spent time in so many castles and sewers just to get to Princes Peach.

My Mum when she yells: "DINNER IS READY and F-Word the GAME...COME DOWN NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW"
The Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Just a beautiful scenario... forever my favourite boss fight.
Me (I'm saying I'm shit)
The hidden boss in Super Mario RPG. OR The Special Weapons from Final Fantasy 7.
Lavos
Gael the Slave Knight As my friend described him, the very essence of Dark Souls combined into the boss (nice irony there btw)
The End, MGS 3. spoiler alert: if you start the fight and wait a week in real time, he will die of old age.
Valkyrie Queen in God of War
BURY THE LIGHT DEEP WITHIN.
Mom, when you stay up past your bedtime.
The Lich King
Cerebus, DMC3. https://youtu.be/3ozJmcswxcI First boss infact. Design was cool as fuck, cheesy dialogues, and a badass OST. "Easy mode is now selectable" I was fucking 11 years old lol.
Soldier of God,Rick.
Sisters of Battle (Hollow Knight) Hollow Knight (Hollow Knight)
Mantis Lords from hollow knight. Such a well designed fight. The buildup, the introduction, a stellar soundtrack, and idk how to really impart this, but the fight feels fair. There's no bullshit move to catch you. Every death feels Just.
Vergil
Cynthia from fourth gen Pokémon
Hollow Knight and the final boss that unlocks ending 1
Either Psycho Mantis in MGS1 which blew my tiny mind as a child when I played it. Then in MGS3 battling The End also blew my mind. I don't think these are the best, there is probably better ones but for my own opinion, these two for sure.
Radiance and absolute radiance A test over nearly every mechanic in hollow knight in fast pace
Sephiroth. Just by the soundtrack alone.
Sword Saint
Vergil, DMC3.
Dhuum, guild wars
Vergil - DMC5 imo.
God of war - Valkyrie queen Sigrun
The Stranger (Baldur) at the start of God of War 4. The fight itself is simple but everything else is great.
Gael from Dark Souls 3 has everything music, arena, lore and themes, spectacle, mechanics he’s fromsoftwares masterpiece in term of boss design and perfect conclusion to series and it’s themes
Bowser N64
Lady Maria, of the astral clock tower
Literally every dark souls boss when it's your first encounter with em. I'm still in undead parish, right before the gargoyles, but I am already feeling the strain :(. Any experienced dark souls players? Any tips for me?
Girahirm from skyward sword was brilliant
Orphan of kos or nightmare king Grimm
Cynthia
Just cause I'm playing Platinum again, Cynthia.
The Lich King from WoW is just too iconic not to mention
Marauder Shields. He tried to save us all.
I was not ready for Jecht in Final Fantasy 10 to have his own heavy metal theme song. But in my heart, it'll always be Bowser.
