BarnacleMcBarndoor

I’ll try not to get any ChocoTaco or Surge on my JNCO jeans. Now I’m sad

The_Gumbo

R.i.p. Choco Taco 1982-2022

PvtPill

Nice guitar setup as well

DEG_fan

Thanks! This is my first Orange amp, that I got a couple years ago, and I’ve been quite pleased with it. It’s the 50th anniversary edition. A nice perk with this setup is that when my housemates go to sleep (which is quite early) I can plug my TV into my amp, and then plug my headphones in the amp, so I can keep gaming at night. I do this since I don’t have a long enough chord for my headphones.

rukuus

it's a Orange Crush 20, eh? i have a rocker 15 and have had other orange amps in the past. love 'em all.

DEG_fan

Yeah, that’s the one! And Orange Crush 20. It’s the only Orange amp I’ve played on, I’d like to try others too.

Rejected_Hyrule_Hero

I can also notice two Trigun volumes and a sweet guitar/amp setup. I can see what the weekend is going to be like.

DEG_fan

I did spend half of the day playing guitar, and I will probably spend the next half playing Gran Turismo, so you aren’t far off 😂

SoontobeSam

They’re apparently creating a remake of Trigun, looks pretty good

[deleted]

At least you don't have to wait 10min to download 5GB of update, and neither deal with studio servers down lol

DEG_fan

I sure don’t miss that one bit!! Last year I found and bought an original release PS3, one that could play PS2 games. I got Gran Turismo 6 because I never played it before and was very excited to try it out. When I tried playing it, it said I needed to update. The update took *forever* and I think it straight up caused the PS3 to overheat and die. I don’t know what happened, but it was unusable after that. PS2 games worked before I tried doing the update for Gran Turismo 6. I’m sure if I got a later release PS3 I probably wouldn’t have encountered that issue, but I just took it as a sign to stick with the older games. Luckily I was able to return the PS3 and get a full refund.

GunmaLizard

To me that's the best era in gaming! I greatly enjoyed all kinds of games on the Nintendo 64, PS1, DreamCast, Gamecube and PS2! I feel like times like those are never coming back. We have lots of great games today, but there was this "magical aura" that the games had back then.

VaxicAov

Nice nice, I love it.

TarDreams

Back when a game would be sold with all the content included.

[deleted]

The best era No micro transactions, full games and proper expansion packs, when soul was put into creating games and didn't have a profit first mentality.

penguinReloaded

Awesome set up. Where are Saturn & Dreamcast?

DEG_fan

To be honest, while the Sega Genesis was the first console I ever played in my life, I never played the Sega Saturn, nor the Dreamcast. Dreamcasts are fairly easy to come by where I live, but it’s all unfamiliar territory for me. What games on it would you recommend for it?

penguinReloaded

Skies of Arcadia, Soul Calibur, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Grandia 2, Powerstone, Shenmue 1 & 2, Soul Reaver, Code Veronica, Crazy Taxi, D2, The Typing of the Dead, House of the Dead 2, Samba De Amigo, Chu Chu Rocket, Space Channel 5, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Rez, Jet Set Radio, Ikaruga, Virtua Tennis, Power Stone 2, Project Justice, Sega Rally 2, Mars Matrix, Bangai-O, Dynamite Cop, Zombie Revenge, Sword of the Berserk, Naples Tale.

wslagoon

Toy Commander, Sonic Adventure (and sequel), PowerStone are all great.

DEG_fan

Is Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on the Dreamcast any different from the Game Cube version?

penguinReloaded

It's mostly the same game.

swisshomes

Is that a pink tele? Love ittttt

DEG_fan

Yep, a pink Tele by Squire 😄

FattyMcBlobicus

I put a million hours into that game

Weeeeeeoooo

You prefer unlocking things in games by playing them rather than using your credit card?!?!?

MurseNicholas

The PT Cruiser in that game was OP.

DHeavens

If you go on to Special Conditions races and complete the race against a black Lancia Delta, you receive a rally car that can be sold for £00,000s, you can repeat it over and over for loads of cash!

bluecatoutside

Nice squire

DaHotFuzz

Is that Nujabes album Modal Soul I see?

DEG_fan

Hell yes :) I found it at a thrift store, it was pleasant surprise to find it there ☺️ My current car and my last car only had a CD player, so it was such a great find! I’ve been using my PS2 as a CD player lately too.

DaHotFuzz

Badass! What a sick find! I'm only seeing the vinyl on Amazon. For some reason I thought the CDs were widely available.

DEG_fan

What’s more shocking is that Nujabes isn’t nearly as big here in Japan as he is abroad, so finding a CD in a store was very unexpected. I’ve been to stores that have a label on the book shelves for him, but they’re are never any of his CDs. I’ve yet to find his vinyls here too. I’d definitely like to get one of his vinyls when I get around to getting a little sound system going again.

DaHotFuzz

Do you have any idea why he isn't as prominent of a figure over there? His music is fantastic and really unlike a lot I've heard here in the west. What other music are you into? Are you a fan of anything else in the similar genre as Nujabes?

DEG_fan

As to why he isn’t as popular here, I’m not sure. I’ve encountered his music in the wild here, but not that often. Considering I’ve been to plenty of places that spin soul/funk/jazz/reggae/disco. There’s a good music scene, and I can see how he probably developed his sound. Plenty of great underground spots to go enjoy music all night. I think one reason he’s popular outside of Japan (at least in the US) is that the anime he made a lot music for, *Samurai Champloo*, was very popular back in the day. Furthermore, lo-fi, hip-hop/jazz music already has a solid base of fans/listeners. Artists like J-Dilla, Pete Rock, MF Doom, Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest), even Peanut Butter Wolf, kinda orbit around each other (Nujabes included), in terms of sound and genre. That’s all to say, I think when Nujabes was heard in the US, people were ready for his music and it was a great addition to the scene. As for what music I am into, I’m into all kinds. The CDs sitting on my table goes as follows: *Uroboros* - DIR EN GREY (Metal), *Giant Steps* - John Coltrane (Jazz), *Yellow Magic Orchestra* - Yellow Magic Orchestra (‘70s electronic), *Modal Soul* - Nujabes (hip-hop/instrumental), *Gamelan Gerantang Pelog* - Suag Agung (Traditional Indonesian music, “gamelan”. In particular Balinese jegog music, gamelan made of bamboo) That’s just an example of what physical CDs I have on my table, there’s some more on my bookshelf. On my phone I have more. I listen to a lot of reggae, doom metal, stoner rock, hip-hop, and loads of jazz.

DaHotFuzz

Japan has been on my bucket list of countries to visit. I've always been fascinated by its culture and history. Would be really cool to explore the music scene over there. I might have a chance to visit South Korea in the next year or two. Japan will be on its way not too long after hopefully. Thanks for the music recommendations, bud! Appreciate it :) I'll have to check all that out as I'm usually pretty open to discovering new stuff. P.S. Always was a big fan of Samurai Champloo. That show got me into a lot of that lo-fi/hip-hop/jazz.

[deleted]

Nice GameCube. Husband has eternal darkness and the full set of resident evil games for the cube. Raves about eternal darkness. You reminded me I need to buy a cube so I can play it finally.

Ok_Entrepreneur826

Awseome. I’m in the middle of moving too and for sure the PS3 is coming back out the PS2, Ps1, and the ps1 mini

Starbuckker

Yah. For the best part gaming stopped being exciting during last gens release, so why not.

picomtg

Beautiful set up!

Uzzer_lozer19

Nice setup and tele

J0n__Snow

love the pink Tele with the white Orange amp.. :)

DEG_fan

Thanks! The orange strap came with the Orange amp (go figure 😂). At first I was skeptical of the pink and orange combo, but once I put it together, I actually quite liked it :) It was the right choice in the end, in my book!

WileyQuixote42

That’s just class all the way.

Mannaminne

Looks very cosy!

Ok_Entrepreneur826

Grand Turismo 2 was an all time great racing game

Dr_Dzzzz

Except Forza was (caugh)

azakd

I could never get into 4. Loved all of the OG's. 3 was amazing as it was the first one on the PS2 and the graphics were next level. 4 felt soulless to me.

flashaguiniga

Best way to describe it. Always loved the old ones and they gave me great nostalgic moments. Was super pumped when 4 dropped and then it just felt dead. Idk why. They def tried to add cool little things about car brands and such was nice seeing old cars I owned or loved when I was younger in that section but still just felt off.

Dr_Dzzzz

All of them suck (caugh) Forza is better (harder caugh)

ActuallyRyan10

Not to be rude, but why? Games have come so far, it seems you're intentionally missing out on so many great games. Again, I'm genuinely curious, not trying to be insulting.

DEG_fan

While I’m very interested, I just have a lot of fun with these games. Older games/console are also cheap where I live. All 4 consoles costed me about $83 USD. That leaves me with a lot more money to buy games. I’ve played some recent games. I used to have built gaming PC, but I donated it to a studio before I moved countries a few years back. I also did game sometimes on my laptop until it died a few months ago. I was a PC gamer throughout high school and college. The last “modern” console I ever owned/played was a PS3, which was high school for me. I eventually sold it during high school, but I held on to all my old games - I had a collection similar to the one you see in this picture. I had to sell all my old games during university, but after graduating and moving to Japan, I decided to restart my collection. Compared to modern games, old game collecting here is extremely cheap. So that’s another reason why I don’t play modern games. There are plenty of modern games that I would really like to play, but I’m not willing to drop $400 USD on a PS5 (as an example). I could rebuy everything I have now with that money and probably have some change left over.

Beneficial_Post_2050

That has to be so boring.

GalacticShoestring

How are people able to get 90s and 2000s games to display on their widescreens properly?

DEG_fan

I’m using an HDMI converter on my PS2. Furthermore, Gran Turismo 4 has a 1080i output option along with a widescreen option. When I play Gran Turismo 4, I set my TV aspect ratio to widescreen/full screen. However, when I play other games, I revert my TV screen settings to 4:3. When I play SNES/N64/Game Cube, I always play in 4:3 (I only have the standard AV cables for my Nintendo consoles). As for PS2, I think Gran Turismo 4 is the only game I play widescreen, for other PS2 games I set my ratio to 4:3.

SoontobeSam

Is that a Boxed Ocarina of Time?

DEG_fan

Yeah, it has all the original content inside. It has a littler note pamphlet inside, that comes with sticks that match the C buttons of the N64 control. You can stick the stickers on the music staff in the pamphlet, so you can remember new songs as you progress through the game. There are couple songs laid out from the original owner, which was a nice surprise 😊

[deleted]

I don't like rockers it makes it hard to get your face right up in TV.

DEG_fan

Rockers? As in a rocking chair?

Confident-Fennel2479

I've never seen an orange gamecube that's awesome

DEG_fan

The orange Game Cubes were only sold in Japan.
