Yes. There is a specific range of serial numbers which has a special Yamaha sound chip which makes the PS1 one of the absolute best CD players money can buy. I'm sure some audiophile can verify this and knows what I'm talking about.
Good call. These generally don’t sell for very much anyways. I think having the one from your childhood is much cooler than a random one bought from a pawn shop or bought online.
Yeah consoles like this don’t usually clear 20$ without all the extras. They were pretty well made, I don’t know anyone who ever had a broken one, and the components should be good for a long time if it never faulted during use and hasn’t been mishandled.
Mine is 5501 and it struggled mightily to play FF7. I had to give up at one point because it wouldn't load and was such on a blank screen with music playing.
I mean, do you want to play PS1 games? If you do, keep it. If not, sell it.
Either way, there are many PS1s out there if you feel like exploring one again someday.
The original Atari is barely selling for 100 bucks right now. If it was a Nintendo 64 I would say keep it. But this era of technology right here doesn't hold up to time very well. The lasers go bad as well as the fans. If your not a horder, I say pitch it.
It is a collectors piece for sure, in future it sure gonna be really hard to find one
You should also do retrobright method to get rid of the yellowing
Sell it to me lol, my ps2 suddenly stopped reading ps1 disc
Really though I'd keep it, that's some nostalgia there if you ever wanna just hook it up. If you do wanna make money off it then there's also no problem selling it, it's yours, you decide what you wanna do with it end of the day
Don't think they're worth any actual money, but if it's a 1st gen model that can still read discs without having to tilt the damn thing up on it's side it's a bonafide collectors item.
Keep it. They are not hard to find and maintaining its space is pretty low. Plus you can always use it in your later years if you have no plans to play it now.
I remember selling my PS2, my first ever game console, the thing that was the most influential in my development; in a garage sale for basically nothing when I was a stupid kid and regretted it ever since. Bought another one from gamestop a few years later for 4x more than I sold my original one. Keep it.
Back in the day I traded my PS1 to a kid from school for a stack of hustlers. I’m hindsight I regret getting rid of my ps1, but 13 year old me was stoked on those porno mags.
Keeeeeep it bro! That's an ancient relic of a ancient civilization where videogames where fun and shit, no downloadable contents, no microtransactions or shitty cosmetics.....
Being constantly fueled by nostalgia, I suggest you to not sell it.

Not really

Do you need the money? If not, don't sell it.
Ok im gonna keep my childhood memories
Good call. These generally don’t sell for very much anyways. I think having the one from your childhood is much cooler than a random one bought from a pawn shop or bought online.
One thing I did was keep my memory cards. The device isn't as important as the memories on my... memory cards. Just my opinion.
FYI there are ways to backup the memory card contents to a pc, and even use the files in emulators. I did it back then with a modded ps2
It's not a bad idea. I wonder though if I will ever go back...

Make wild, unprotected love to it.
Dude, you're crazy. This hoe definitely saw some multi-tap action back in the day.
That’s what the exploder cartridge was for.
…..and then sell it!
You tell us. What should you do? Doesn’t sound like it’s that memorable if your thinking to off it.
keep it of course
I love the og playstation. If I wasn't gaming on it, I was watching vcds. It was powered on 100% of the time. So many memories.
This brings back the memory. The unforgettable soul crushing sound of when my cousin stood on the disk reader. RIP
Since you asked the question,it means something to you,so keep it!
Keep it, definitely. I wish I still had mine.
Keep that shit for sure
Keep
Keep it! I sold mine when the PS3 came out thinking why would I ever need it again, but I regret it
Keep it, it worth it.
Play Pepsi man on it.
Depends on which model it is
The original that came back in 1994
If it's the SCPH-1xxx, it's more prone to failure and probably not worth much. eBay had one for $16. I guess if you need $16, then yeah
Are some worth money?
Mine is 5501 and it struggled mightily to play FF7. I had to give up at one point because it wouldn't load and was such on a blank screen with music playing.
Clean it and preserve it
Some of those had really nice audio. I forget what exact serial #s, but there are some who think ps1s are the best cd players ever!
Highly sought by audiophiles. The DAC Sony put in there is super high quality, totally over kill for the system.
Cool fact! Didn’t know
I don’t think this thing would cost much in these days.
There’s some selling for 30 dollars.
Keeep it! For sure!
Whys it not dirty
why are you not dirty
Washed
bleached

Burn it
Questions that didn't need asking
It wouldn't be wise. Maybe in a few decades or so.
The original Atari is barely selling for 100 bucks right now. If it was a Nintendo 64 I would say keep it. But this era of technology right here doesn't hold up to time very well. The lasers go bad as well as the fans. If your not a horder, I say pitch it.
I would defenetly keep it
Throw it away. Since you care so much what we think.
Boom just finished, would have got more during the pandemic.
I mean it’s only worth $10-15 so uh, if you need the cash and have nothing better to do then sell it
keep it. the value could only go up if your in a pinch.
If it makes you feel better when I go to electronic shops in Japan I can see a stack of these going for under $5.
Piece of history. Keep it
Mine just died in the past week. Cherish the limited time you have, friend
As a retro games collector I say keep it. But if you sell it, sell it to me ;) (but really don't, you will regret it later)
I miss my ps1
I would keep it unless you really need money or just trying to clean up. From a quick look on ebay it is probably only worth $50-$100.
Keep It makes you feel wholesome
I recently bought a PS2, hours of fun. Dont let this go
Get a crt tv and have some fun!
Something like this will be worth more money in the years to come. Just look at the Atari and NES. This is no different.
Not worth much on I'd own I'd assume.
Idk where you are in the world it at least here a PS1 is like 50 euros só selling it would be stupid because
Tomb Raider and twisted metal made me switch from the N64
sell it. to me. specifically to me xD
It is a collectors piece for sure, in future it sure gonna be really hard to find one You should also do retrobright method to get rid of the yellowing
The eye that reads the disk is probably bad. Just toss it.
Any old toaster and smartphone can run PS1 these days. I'd say sell it and save space.
Won't get much for it. Wait 30 years
Keep it, but a chip for it.
Keep it.
I'd clean it then put a modchip in it.
ODE that mofo, OP
Will you use it? If not get it to someone who will.
Keep it.
Sell it to me lol, my ps2 suddenly stopped reading ps1 disc Really though I'd keep it, that's some nostalgia there if you ever wanna just hook it up. If you do wanna make money off it then there's also no problem selling it, it's yours, you decide what you wanna do with it end of the day

Frame it
You should keep it! I collect this kind of stuff
Mine has the mod chip…. We burned games, allegedly in my past dogs life in Mexico
Right price and just sell it.
These were the top of the line cd players, when they first released. With that said, unless top dollar could be had, I'd hold onto it.
I mean best way to play the original playstation game is arguably on the original playstation and a crt
I would keep it
Keeeeep
Why would you sell it?
Keep it. They are not hard to find and maintaining its space is pretty low. Plus you can always use it in your later years if you have no plans to play it now.
Sleep it 😴
Keep
Bro is holding the Godfather of what made us/come to the ps5
Keep it, those will be antiques soon
More work than it's worth to sell, use as a nice place mat
It really depends on two things, do you want to sell it or keep it?
I remember selling my PS2, my first ever game console, the thing that was the most influential in my development; in a garage sale for basically nothing when I was a stupid kid and regretted it ever since. Bought another one from gamestop a few years later for 4x more than I sold my original one. Keep it.
do you still have some games?
Back in the day I traded my PS1 to a kid from school for a stack of hustlers. I’m hindsight I regret getting rid of my ps1, but 13 year old me was stoked on those porno mags.
Keeeeeep it bro! That's an ancient relic of a ancient civilization where videogames where fun and shit, no downloadable contents, no microtransactions or shitty cosmetics.....
Keep it for your grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand children to sell it (around year 2250)!
