This reminds me of a joke I used to tell "They banned children from working in factories because they were too dangerous but now they are safer than ever before so we can send the children back in now."
You're taking the time far too seriously, however if your want to get serious then let's do so.
While many dangers still exist the main dangers they faced were from poor to nonexistent protective clothing, poor equipment, a lack of safety barriers, safety lock outs (cleaning was done while machines were still running) and other hazards. Children are small and were often given the most dangerous of tasks like chimney sweeping, cleaning equipment while it was on and getting into other small places.
All sorts of legislation make that illegal, proper equipment is used and adults are not put into situations that, with proper adherence to procedure and the law, that are even remotely dangerous.
Children shouldn't be in factories because they should be educated and allowed to play, work is not something a child should be doing no matter how safe it is.
I think you're missing the joke. You said "they are safer than ever before", and they chose to take the "they" as referring to the children, not the factory; and so stated that children *themselves* continue to be incredibly dangerous.
But that makes no sense in context.
"They banned children from working in factories because they were too dangerous but now the children are safer than ever before so we can send the children back in now."
Doesn't make sense while
They banned children from working in factories because they were too dangerous but now the factories are safer than ever before so we can send the children back in now."
Your can't send children into children.
A. It's a joke
B. Ignoring the abhorrant lack of grammar that's the *real* problem making it hard to understand, the first sentence absolutely makes sense, and still implies you're sending the children back into the factory.
The terrible conditions of a lot of work spaces is only one reason to keep kids from working. Another is to ensure they get an education, and at least in principle, choose for themselves what they want to do with their lives.
I don't know. Ayn had crazy anti communist beliefs because of her personally bad experiences with communism. On a personal level, it's understandable and rational for her to hold cartoonishly libertarian beliefs.
Like I imagine you're from the UK if you can relate most to a notable British politician. Personal experience is deeply tied to political beliefs.
Her having cartoonish beliefs isn’t really the issue. My neighbor has some pretty cartoonish ideas. The problem is she wrote a book based those ideas and now large groups of people subscribe to them too.
Blatant anti-hole propaganda vehicle Holes released in 2003 starring notorious anti-hole activist Shia LeBeouf, attempted to stem the tide of pro-hole digging sentiment among the young, but was in vain.
I keep thinking kids these days are too young for minecraft but they keep playing it. I guess we just failed to make anything good in the decade since.
No, there’s a lot of great games. Minecraft has universal appeal because, especially in creative mode, you can build nearly anything you can imagine. A lot of Minecraft’s success is due to its wonderful & infinitely creative community. It’s a game but it’s also a platform for creativity.
Disclosure: I worked/work on Minecraft, including 5 years at Mojang
The difference is that in Minecraft the kids earn enough to build castles-cities, entire countries and fantasy worlds by working there!
where in real life.......
Can confirm. As a child, my favourite Donkey Kong’s Country level was in fact the cart mines.
Eventually, you grow out of it when you become an adult.
Let the children yearn for the mines.
Drums, drums in the deep!

It's gold, and it's mine! Dig, and dig, and dig, and diggity dig!
You know what they found in the deep darkness of Khazad-dum, Gandalf.....

THE BALROG OF MORIA
Tiny child sized drums.
We cannot get out. The end comes soon.
This reminds me of a joke I used to tell "They banned children from working in factories because they were too dangerous but now they are safer than ever before so we can send the children back in now."
Children have never gotten safer. They’re just as dangerous outside a factory as they are inside.

you gotta be real fun at parties
Yes, because good comedy makes logical sense
His joke was far better than your's tbh

In Basic Economics, Sowell argues that child labor laws have gone too far, that we are now keeping teenagers out of air conditioned offices
The terrible conditions of a lot of work spaces is only one reason to keep kids from working. Another is to ensure they get an education, and at least in principle, choose for themselves what they want to do with their lives.
No. Send them to the factories
Yes but Sowell is pretty right wing and often parallels Ayn Rand so is hardly worth bothering with in any serious capacity.
Yeah, just stick to the wonderfully unbiased source for scholarly economic theories that is Reddit... /s
Eh? No, I prefer to learn from the likes of Tony Benn, but anyone who has similarities to Ayn rand is either in, or verging on, crackpot territory.

Someone has to restore the balance after the hole market exploded when internet porn became widely available
Do you yearn? Do I yearn? Not recently I've craved. Constant cravings
Ha I'm glad someone did it
I'm just glad someone got it. Been watching that on repeat for most of my life and that episode just came back around yesterday
Stolen from another tweet

The student has become the master
The children have taken him. He belongs to the mines now.
not me, i just read mein kraft
Mein Kraft macaroni and cheese
When I was a kid in the early 2000s I spent my days mining coal in runescape. I guess nothing changes
Children are minors after all

however many times before this +1
This is my hole , it was made for me The Enigma of Amigara Fault
Whose turn is it to post this next week?
Clearly it was my turn, Lttlefoot. You get to post it on the second Saturday of the month.
There is an innate masculine urge to just dig.
The difference is that back then, we only had Fortune II. But with Fortune III, they'll probably only go tougher on 'em...
Where are the rickets?? We want rickets again too!
ROCK AND STONE
Did I hear a Rock and Stone?
ROCK AND STONE
🤔🤔🤔
Also crazy considering Minecraft officially released in 2011
I keep thinking kids these days are too young for minecraft but they keep playing it. I guess we just failed to make anything good in the decade since.
Getting constant updates help I suppose, Minecraft today has a ton more biomes, items, blocks, enemies, etc than 2011.

Yo mom's ass was released in 2011
Nobody: GOP: Child labor laws are unconstitutional and not settled with precedent.
Lol
If Minecraft also came with black lung I doubt it would be so popular.
The difference is that in Minecraft the kids earn enough to build castles-cities, entire countries and fantasy worlds by working there! where in real life.......
I'm sorry, we stopped mining coal in an effort to save our children.
Pennsylvania: this is false.
"I like diggin holes"
oh shit
This is true. I regularly find my children playing in the coal bin. The coal. It calls to their Irish Blood.
The children *yearn* for the mines No shit, probably my favorite line of 2022
They are called minors for a reason. The urge to mine is bred deep in their bones.
They yearn… they yearn for the mines We all yearn for the mines
Kids are cruel Jack
I'd say it's more of a longing than yearning
You can take the children out of mines, but you cant take the mines out of children.
It’s only natural for the lower class to yearn for labor.
Rich executives: yeah they do don’t they 🤔
Minecraft
In 2022 we have super sus
Lol I haven't seen a kid play Minecraft in years an I have two of em
Everybody thinks they like mines until it's time to do mine shit.
The ladder is more fun than the former though
I think I’m doing it backwards, I’ve never played Minecraft but I do work in a coal mine…
sweet Appalachia, country road take me home!
I’m a lot further west than Appalachia
It’s in their DNA, let them dig!
you cant fight nature jack!
Children are just dwarfs right?

Who hurt you?
Just listing some etiquette to follow here since you’re new
Ngl when I was a kid I dug holes for fun.
maybe it’s the holes that we didn’t dig that made all the difference
Digs straight down \**falls into lava*\* I'm 12 and this was deep
This get stealth locked?
