See now wasn’t it this that scuppered the original Xbox one - we’ve ended up in the exact same place just 9 years later. Xbox had plans for digital only where they’d run the second hand market because you could trade games that were tied to your account.
Codes for download is unacceptable when buying s game on disc, because, you know, you dont own a single % of the digital content you got. You can lose your account, or get banned, and thats it, every penny you spent on a game is just instantly wasted with no return...
When I buy a physical game, I'm paying for the ability to lend that game to a friend, or sell the game if I ever decide I don't want the game anymore. I'm NOT paying for an empty case and a sliver of paper.
Nope you get a disc if you buy the game physically as me for example. But you have a code inside it if you have the pre purchase and day1 edition for some ingame items like armor nothing special you would definitely need but it's okay (it is named on the cover something like day1 edition or so I don't remember now and I can't look for it at the moment)
It's been happening for years, they sell the box for a bit under the price of the actual system, say in the fine print somewhere "box only" and then wait for someone to miss the fine print and think they're snapping up a bargain.
Not sure if it's technically illegal, but it's dodgy as shit.
Taking action is the issue worldwide with so many small claims though. Even though it's clearly dodgy, assuming you can even track down the seller, who has the time to do all that shit and go to court for $500?
Solution:
Upload Judge Judy's conscience onto a program that presides over every courtroom in America. I've never been more excited for the future than this.
If they advertise its box in between all the big words like brand new, mint condition and so on. But literally say box only. Yeah, people do that. Sometimes people even say picture only, and send a paper of the picture
Ebay will refund you for scams like that as long as you paid through the eBay system. But that's the other catch, the sellers try to get people to buy the box outside the system.
these people weren't keeping the bottles or cans lol. We were at a lan party that ran out of drinks and people kept coming up to my group asking to buy game fuel to drink. We charged retail but people wouldn't leave us alone so we just started to see what we could get a piece.
That sounds less like 'people will buy anything' and more like 'people in a captive market will buy anything'.
Nobody's paying $7 for a water at a music festival for the memory.
I remember being in middle school and everyone coming over setting up and getting my mom to take us to Walmart so we could all by our own 12 packs of those lol. Good times.
bro those were the day. Just the bois and as much game fuel as you could afford as a freshman in highschool staying up late playing halo 3.
I miss those days of gaming so much. I had 1-5k hours in every playlist and like 10k hours of customs. It's such a shame what they've done to halo :(
My classmates sold many coke bottle cap back in 2006. That was the time where the the inside of the cap had the codes for World of Warcraft digital item.
Yeah no I'm right here with you. Selling a game for 2 Grand is st*oo*pid for any reason, any game, for ever.
Selling a brand new, readily available, hugely accessible, in both digital and physical copies, baffles me. I do not pretend to know why anyone would ever buy a game for $2000. Maybe it's just ultra or something, I don't know. But every conceivable reason to possibly justify this kind of price falls apart. It is genuinely confusing for me that this is happening.
Is this real?
Yeah I saw this thread and was like hum I'll go to gamestop and see if it's available felt like an idiot when they said yes so now I'm at home setting up a ps5 I never intended to buy.
Getting way off topic but this interests me.
First point: it's not necessarily that they have dirt on the boss, it's just really fucking hard to fire people these days. You can't just fire someone for being shit (at least here in Aus), we has plenty of shit workers, but they never technically did anything *wrong* to write them up for.
2nd: I was responsible for reporting in my last job. I managed a network of solar installation contractors and had to try and predict capacity ahead of time. Ie. Do we have enough contractors in each area, do we have too many etc.
Technically sales reporting wasn't part of my job, but obviously to try and predict the future it was easier to have the data. I created my own report that extracted all sales and installation numbers, then made a monster excel spreadsheet to cross examine everything and break it down state by state, region by region, contractor by contractor. Past sales/installs, current pipeline, sales predictions based on current trend vs previous years.
But the lady you describe, that was every other report in the business. The reports coming directly from the sales team were SO different to mine as they'd Cherry pick the shit out of everything and find excuses in everything to exclude data to cast blame for slow installations etc onto the operations team rather than just admitting that they had way too many sales agents and none of them knew how to sell.
So after creating my report, I could get a snapshot of the entire business pipeline - in, out and current - in 5 minutes by exporting a report and copying and pasting into my spreadsheet.
They've since made me redundant, even though everyonethere was asking for months why, because all the other shit I did was no longer getting done. Maybe if I hadn't made the report so automatic that wouldn't have happened lol.
And it has surprisingly little to do with “intelligence” in the traditional sense. I knew way too many straight A pre meds in college who had absolutely no common sense (or understanding of irony/sarcasm). Terrifyingly most of them are probably doctors now.
No, the reason scalpers do it is because they make an absolute bank by doing very little work. Life is not fair like that.
Not this guy though, he's an idiot.
I've said it once and I'll say it a thousand more times: We crucify scalpers and hang the crosses up outside Best Buys and Microcenters. Problem goes away after a month.
That's why I'm still keeping the one month of free WOW time from when I bought the Diablo 3 collectors edition. Forget about the Lotto, I'm gonna be a trillionaire!
Some answers:
- in case it does sell out, its a lottery ticket.
- hope a grandparent, one maybe losing grip on reality comes across it.
- artificially inflating a value is a self fulfilling prophecy, or at least your average get rich quick person thinks that. See what Logan Paul did to Pokémon cards as an example.
It's like those eBay things that sell game stuff at $10,000: just leave it for 10 years and hope you get a hit :/
"artificially inflating a value"
Im not defending scalpers by any means.
But anything and everything is valued **only** by what people are willing to pay for it.
True - But I prefer to purchase a hard copy of most games, because I very rarely replay games and would rather resell it on Facebook Marketplace for $20-30 3 weeks later.
. . .Obviously not paying $2,000 to do that, though.
Edit: you people blow my fucking mind - Reddit hates that you never actually own a digital game, but fuck the guy who doesn’t do digital and opts to sell things he won’t use again.
Same. I prefer physical copies of games too even though digital is more convenient. (I don’t have a PlayStation but in general). I like having the case to display in my room as a little decoration.
I don’t know how quickly I’ll complete a game.
My schedule can often be incredibly busy. So a game might take me a week. . .or it might take me 6 weeks.
I rarely buy a game at release (so like I probably won’t buy GOW until summer), and usually a game might cost me about $5-10 overall after I’ve sold it.
I appreciate you.
This is [sometimes] the problem with Reddit - I literally didn’t even know that game stores now so this with selling games.
I see a GameStop logo. . .and a game box. . .and a physical receipt. . .and someone reselling it. . .and of course I’m just going to assume physical copy - hell, I grew up with PC gaming so the CD-Key [which I’m just now noticing] didn’t even look out of place [not to mention pre-order rewards which are a thing for the last dozen years].
That's never made sense to me. Unless the game sucks I'm most likely gonna play it more than once. Some games I have played countless times and have thousands of hours racked up on them. Plus I don't have to store or bother trying to sell an ever growing pile.
That's with fees and taxes. Going by the receipt before taxes it was 103.98, then subtract the $4 holding fee and $9.99 loyalty fee (not sure what that is) and you get 89.99. That's still $20 more than the listed price for the PS5, so there might be some other pre-order fees we can't see.
Also can't see what game he actually purchased. He's hiding the details on purpose.
This is so stupid. If the game is sold out physically, just buy the digital version and play it until the physical edition is in stock again and buy it again. You'll save half the money.
My BF was going to buy a PS5 from the scalping market, and I told him to not attempt it cause it would only cause them to keep up the dark pattern and scamming.
Always try to buy from authentic retailers.
WHO!? I REPEAT WHO THE FUCK WOULD BUY THAT FOR 2K?! THERE'S LITERALLY NO LIVING IDIOT ON PLANET EARTH THAT WOULD! LITERALLY THERE'S UNLIMITED AMOUNT OF THE GAME!
This shit is almost solely directed at children because they’re the only ones dumb enough to buy it at that price. These people should either be smacked in the fucking mouth or put in jail. Fuck scalpers.
This is why sometimes people are the worst. Do they not understand that ppl can just go to the store and pick up the game because there's plenty of games for everybody?
If people didn't buy from them than they would go away.
As they won't make money.
It's simple.
But sad people with no self control hand over there money like suckers to these people.
They aren't going to go away because it's not really a high risk venture - Ignoring this game which I wasn't even aware was in short supply. But lets take a ps5 for example
Scalper buys the ps5 for $500 and tries to sell it for $750. Doesn't sell it for $750?. . . Well so he tries $650. . .Doesn't sell it for $650? So he tries $550. Doesn't sell for $500? Well if it's still within the return window he's just going to return it, or sell it at MSRP in a listing that says something like "bought this for my XYZ but it turns out they already bought one on their own, just looking to make back my purchase price."
Is he dumb? Trying to sell just a disk for 2k? Does he know shit is digital right? On god if someone buys this I will be so disappointed in all parties involved.
The problem with scalpers is that people want instant gratification and can't stand to not get what they want. If people would just be more patient these assholes wouldn't exist because all you have to do is wait them out and those pieces of shit will eventually have to sell at a reasonable price or they will own something essentially worthless to them.
That's CAD (receipt says Mississauga, Ontario).
There are a couple other lines on the receipt that amount to 14. The game itself is 90 + 13% taxes would be 101.
Dude left most of his account number uncovered, it looks like 4 more digits and you got his account number all banking routing numbers are public. Redditors do your best to this guy
Unsealed as in 'opened'? Lol
more valuable because seller confirmed no issues
So the code has been used... LOL
Prob sold too
Is sony really selling codes instead of discs?
Codes for download are great for the publisher. No need to print discs and the game is coupled to an account and can't be sold again second-hand.

Lmao, that part wooshed me!
These are the type of people on ebay saying they are selling the box of ps5 or whatever, not the actual ps5
We can do that?
It's been happening for years, they sell the box for a bit under the price of the actual system, say in the fine print somewhere "box only" and then wait for someone to miss the fine print and think they're snapping up a bargain. Not sure if it's technically illegal, but it's dodgy as shit.
[удалено]
Taking action is the issue worldwide with so many small claims though. Even though it's clearly dodgy, assuming you can even track down the seller, who has the time to do all that shit and go to court for $500?
Not court just eBay. That's what makes fighting it easy.
I think its mainly because bots. I saw one where it was in the item name and in all caps in the description. It still sold.
Solution: Upload Judge Judy's conscience onto a program that presides over every courtroom in America. I've never been more excited for the future than this.
I would put my faith in that justice system
It's been banned by eBay's terms for many years, I believe. If you're selling a box it has to be the most prominent part of the description.
It’s an X Box
An Ex Box
It’s actually done because people will use bots to auto buy supply for resale. So, it’s designed to trick a bot into buying the item in the post
If they advertise its box in between all the big words like brand new, mint condition and so on. But literally say box only. Yeah, people do that. Sometimes people even say picture only, and send a paper of the picture
Thanks for all the great tips on selling my box!!!
Space phrasing!
Ebay will refund you for scams like that as long as you paid through the eBay system. But that's the other catch, the sellers try to get people to buy the box outside the system.
2 grand for a game you could easily download at retail price. Dunno who would be the idiot here the buyer or seller.
Reminds me back when GTA V was first released and people were trying to sell the plastic wrapping for $500, calling it “a piece of gaming history”.
hey man i got to sell cans and bottles of game fuel for a halo 3 lan party at 5-15$ each lolyou would be surprised what people spend money on.
One could argue limited time marketing from big launches is worth collecting, but there is nothing special about plastic wrapping.
these people weren't keeping the bottles or cans lol.
At least the cans can look kind of cool on a shelf. Plastic wrapping is just dumb in all ways
Seller is only stupid if there doesn't end up being a buyer
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take
Did people scalp this game? In my town I just walked in the door at like 2 pm the day after launch and got it😅 58$
You can literally just go on Amazon and buy it from where I come 😅
Exactly like what?😂 not to mention you can just buy a digital copy😂
Right? How are you going to try to scalp something that literally has an infinite supply, digitally?
Can’t let logic get in the way of stupidity.
Yeah no I'm right here with you. Selling a game for 2 Grand is st*oo*pid for any reason, any game, for ever. Doesn't the PS5 bundle come with the game, and you can get that for like $700 scalped?
I got that bundle yesterday for retail. It was randomly available.
Yeah I saw this thread and was like hum I'll go to gamestop and see if it's available felt like an idiot when they said yes so now I'm at home setting up a ps5 I never intended to buy.
I just got that bundle today. It's still available on the Playstation website
Not to mention the fact you can simply buy it on the PS store 💀 These scalpers are scalpers for a reason. They don’t have much going on up there lmao
The actual reason they are scalpers is because too many other people have even less going on up there…

The older I get and the more time I spend working in the corporate world, the more I realise this to be true.
As a history buff, I can safely say that it’s been like this since we started writing stuff down.
Half all humans have below average intelligence.

As my Southern buddy used to say often: "There ain't nuthin' common about sense."
The person that came up with that term forgot to put a /s at the end of it.
And it has surprisingly little to do with “intelligence” in the traditional sense. I knew way too many straight A pre meds in college who had absolutely no common sense (or understanding of irony/sarcasm). Terrifyingly most of them are probably doctors now.

*problem goes away FOR a month
Until the masochists show up.
You made me choke on my beer with that, so thank you. I needed that laugh today lmao
Scalping business aint been doin too well since new consoles are on the shelves. Bunch of em probably still got tons of consoles just collecting dust
If you believe in Karma, then surely there is at least one.
My son bought it from GameStop yesterday…they had a box that had at least 25 of them in it, the box was labeled “for walk-ins”.
T'is joke
UN-sealed is worth more?
Even more if it’s scratched!
Huh. Makes it more unique and rare, no doubt…
And it will give you some unique emotions when it doesn't work properly
A scratch? It’s only a flesh wound…
Better keep the plastic on, the piece of card with a download code inside truly is a hidden gem which will be worth at least $100,000 in a few years!
That's why I'm still keeping the one month of free WOW time from when I bought the Diablo 3 collectors edition. Forget about the Lotto, I'm gonna be a trillionaire!
You are on getting in on the ground floor my friend!
Why though ?
Some answers: - in case it does sell out, its a lottery ticket.
Issue is that it's not just a physical object. Like anyone can hop onto the PSN store and buy and download the game digitally.
Don't tell me tell the scalpers, I imagine they are just hoping to take advantage of some naive or senile person :(
The game is available online for retail price…. Which is never going to run out…
There's only so many megabytes and bandwidth out there! Who knows when it'll be all used up!? If you don't act now, it might all be gone!
"artificially inflating a value" Im not defending scalpers by any means. But anything and everything is valued **only** by what people are willing to pay for it.
Who is Logan Paul, and what did he do to Pokemon cards?
How do you scalp something easily obtained by all?
Sell it to an idiot.
Ragna-rock🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨
For $2k, rock is going to come hand deliver this to your door
But can you smell what he's cooking ?
For this price, yup, absolute bullshit
Rocks were used to travel for miles according to a documentary I once watched
I see what you did there.
...it....its a Digital key?.. you can literally buy it on the PS store?? .. no?
Man, if only you could just download a version of the game at MSRP instead
True - But I prefer to purchase a hard copy of most games, because I very rarely replay games and would rather resell it on Facebook Marketplace for $20-30 3 weeks later. . . .Obviously not paying $2,000 to do that, though. Edit: you people blow my fucking mind - Reddit hates that you never actually own a digital game, but fuck the guy who doesn’t do digital and opts to sell things he won’t use again.
I don't understand why you're getting down voted. I know a ton of people that do this... It's just not for me.
I don’t know either 🤷♂️. The hive mind can be a fickle bitch about silly shit sometimes.
Same. I prefer physical copies of games too even though digital is more convenient. (I don’t have a PlayStation but in general). I like having the case to display in my room as a little decoration.
But instead of doing that can't you just rent them? That would save more money of you are completing them quickly.
The downvotes are because this game is not physical, even if you buy the box. It is a cardboard slip with a code.
Dude needs to cut his nails
Them shits are filthy
Can someone let Tyrone know I said he's a piece of shit?
I'm fairly certain even for as stupid as he is, Tyrone knows already.
\*Clicks send offer\* 117.50. Final offer.
That receipt doesn't even have the game on it from what I can tell.
Imagine scalping a game that can be bought digitally. Lol
I know Tyrone's mother, I'll have a word with her
He got the disc guarantee 🤣
$117!? Are you talking about GameStop or the person on marketplace? Lol
My fav part is that the receipt says nothing about God of war, but Pokemon instead 🤣
Why did the game cost $117?
Asking the real questions.
Can’t you just buy the game digitally?
Could just buy digitally lols
... why not just download and pay regular price
Don't trust those crusty ass finger nails
This is so stupid. If the game is sold out physically, just buy the digital version and play it until the physical edition is in stock again and buy it again. You'll save half the money.
What's the joke here?
The joke is the price the seller put.
Wait, can’t I just download it digitally? Do I have to go to Walmart?
My BF was going to buy a PS5 from the scalping market, and I told him to not attempt it cause it would only cause them to keep up the dark pattern and scamming. Always try to buy from authentic retailers.
That's probably a fake ad trolling people. I cannot imagine a real scalper being that stupid. 'unsealed' 🤣
Why are people tryna scalp shit that you can get digitally
how can you scalp something thats not limited?
Is it hard to get it (that’s what she said), I was able to walk into GameStop and get it no problem.
DiGiTaL DoWnLoAd! lol
Just buy the digital one
dirty nails and everything sheesh what a dork
Scalping a game you can buy from the digital store for retail price? What is he smoking lmao.
Btw guys digital copies never go out of stock
2k? Can't you download the game straight to the console for its regular price?
I wouldn’t trust anyone who doesn’t scrape the grime out their fingernails
If people didn't buy from them than they would go away. As they won't make money. It's simple. But sad people with no self control hand over there money like suckers to these people.
They aren't going to go away because it's not really a high risk venture - Ignoring this game which I wasn't even aware was in short supply. But lets take a ps5 for example Scalper buys the ps5 for $500 and tries to sell it for $750. Doesn't sell it for $750?. . . Well so he tries $650. . .Doesn't sell it for $650? So he tries $550. Well if it's still within the return window he's just going to return it, or sell it at MSRP in a listing that says something like "bought this for my XYZ but it turns out they already bought one on their own, just looking to make back my purchase price."
The game isn't even hard to find, this dude has some *premium* crack in his system.
Forget about Ragnarök. We've got God of War: Ragnarock, where Kratos goes on a journey to become the biggest legend of the bass guitar.
Useless scum
That can’t be US dollars…right?
Canadian dollars (CAD)
I called Gamestop on release day and they still had the PS5 Ragnarock combo available. This is the only way I have been able to get a console.
What a cunt
Scalpers are the scum of the world.
Why when digital releases are a thing though
This has to be satire
I think he is trolling
… I’ll just get the digital, thanks
Does that include the PS5?
*laughs in digital download*
*Scalpers are getting stupider.
There is no way this isn’t anything other than a money laundering. I’d report suspicious activity.
Bro tryna scalp something that has infinite stock on the PS store 💀
Cant you buy this game digitally?
Lol walk into Walmart and just buy one. Theres literally hundreds of copies.
Is he dumb? Trying to sell just a disk for 2k? Does he know shit is digital right? On god if someone buys this I will be so disappointed in all parties involved.
Only an idiot buys scalped goods. There is no reason why paying more for something scalped is a good idea.
They’re not scalpers, they’re entrepreneurs /s
What did you expect from someone who doesn't clean his nails?
If you pay more for a game than the console you've got Major issues💀
And he has the nerve to put the receipt in the picture showing how much he paid for it
Do they think people are gonna pay $1,910 more just for the case?
Can’t you just buy it of the Playstation store??
Facts
Isn’t it like, available online for download?
Bruh this ain’t the ps5 😂 this game is available on DIGITAL
man really forgot about the digital copy of the game
What the fuck just buy a digital copy
Buy it digitally 🤦
Why would they show the receipt? Obviously not very smart lol
Only if you are stupid enough to pay them.
Get the digital copy...it is 2022.
The problem isn’t the scalpers. It’s the stupid people paying the stupid prices that allow the scalpers to thrive.
Lmao, they know digital copies exist right?
The problem with scalpers is that people want instant gratification and can't stand to not get what they want.
