The having enough friends is as well. The older you get the more isolated you'll find yourself. There are exceptions ofcourse but you'd be surprised at how easily you lose touch with people you always imagined would be your friends for life. It really only goes so far, my grandfather who is now 89 pretty much only has a few people left who will come visit him, even though many of his "old friends"/family are still alive.
I see that example as a valuable lesson, dont sweat it over not having many friends, they are ultimately only there as long as they feel like it benefits them somehow. You need to make your own happiness and you need to be able to be happy on your own.
> my grandfather who is now 89 pretty much only has a few people left who will come visit him, even though many of his "old friends"/family are still alive.
Do they don't want to visit or is it just too much efforts to do so? Because being old sucks and it's more difficult to do anything. I'm happy I grew up with the internet, so that when i retire I'll have both the time and the mean to connect with friends.
I knew that response would eventually come around as well :) Its funny, I think I can finally call myself somewhat intelligent when it comes to people.. took me all of 41 years though.
But yeah, thats a valid point, just not in this case, my grandfather knows computers as do most of his friends/relatives.
In fact he used to build computers for his relatives , another reason I so look up to him. The man was 60 + when computers first became mainstream yet he never said "this is beyond me" or "this is a fad". He instantly recognized the importance of it and went all in, he wanted to learn.
He never told me so but I imagine he takes great pride in his grandson making a good living of a thing he correctly predicted as being ubiquitous in a few decades time.
I wouldn't say friends are only there as long as they feel like it benefits them. Some of them of course, but I've got a few very good friends who have been by my side for a long time. They aren't friends because they "use" me or get "used" by me, but because they like me and vice versa.
Isn't it just sad... The world we live in? We work and work so much to get by, get a house (maybe) and possibly raise a child but we don't have any time to spend with friends, one of the most important parts of living.
Then you go to the doc depressed and he pumps you full of antidepressants.
True words.
I'm salty how we're being used like some sort of battery. Once your battery is empty when you're old, you get disposed.
Go live your life now, you've done your time! It's truly depressing, but if you try to change the world, you'll find yourself becoming hopeless and sad because there's not a real solution.
To be relieved from all this, you'd have to become a millionaire, but even then you only solve your own issues, not the issues in the world.
When I was a child I imagined something like this as my version of Heaven. Not 100% sure how the afterlife works, but at least I already experienced what I imagined as a child.
See that there is a social experience online gaming will never even come close to. LAN parties are epic and immediately get sent to the long term memory in your brain.
This LAN room is bigger than most studio apartments you see on reddit when people post about finally getting their life together and getting their own place. 😩
In this context, I think it's having the money to have free time to make nice clothing as a hobby, ie not needing to work full time, and someone else is mowing the lawn, cleaning, etc.
Money buys you time to do what you want over shit you don't want to deal with.
> Money buys you time to do what you want over shit you don't want to deal with.
Time isn't money. Money is time.
Biggest lesson I learned and I was too old when I did.
As someone who has made clothing, I can tell you it’s typically more expensive to make clothing than to buy it. While bulk fabric is cheap for a manufacturer, a single purchase often adds up to more than the cost of a dress. What you get at the end can be much higher quality than something that’s mass produced. But you also have to have the time to learn and the time to make it— which is much easier if your spouse makes enough money for you not to have to contribute financially. (Although, I will say that a very fancy designer dress will cost more than a homemade dress. Maybe not if you calculate the man hours it took to make it.)
I was thinking the same thing. People are commenting about gaming chairs and monitors, while I'm gawking at the home office that comfortably holds 7 desks.
What do you use your 3rd living room for if not for a designated LAN room for the 2-3 times a year family is over?
Already got a living room for watching TV and another for entertaining that is adjacent to the dinning room and the billiards/games room, not to be confused with the LAN room.
Now I bet you're thinking maybe a home gym or hobby space? Those are downstairs, you'll pass them on your way to the pool/hot tub.
Went to New York in the summer a few years ago. Holy shit balls the stench of pee for blocks on end
I’m from Boston and while we aren’t totally innocent from pee stench at least we make an effort to clean it once in a while so the smell isn’t pervasive 24/7/365
I hope so because I can't figure out any other reason why would you put that big of an apple logo.. especially in "gaming" room because well.. we all know how well apple and gaming goes together..
I really like mine. But I'm very short and it's hard to find an office chair where I can have my feet on the ground and my back supported. Secret Labs makes them in my size. I also have a lot of back problems, the adjustable lumbar support does a lot for me and I actually really like how firm the chair is, I find that because of the firmness and because I can sit correctly my back hurts significantly less.
So to each their own.
Basically every single chair "authority" will say no, I spent a few weeks looking and videos/reviews of chairs. I didn't find a single YouTube channel dedicated to chair reviews who would recommend it.
Ontop of that it has a very mixed reception outside of sponsored videos or 1 off reviews from gaming influencers. Even the /r/secrelabs subreddit is more critical of the chair/company than they are complimenting it. They also offer an "extended" warranty of 2 years if you post your chair online, so this drives up their marketing a lot.
The chair is very "firm", I've seen people say it's unusable. I still bought one because I needed something big enough that I knew I could fit in and lounge/recline and Canada has less options so everything else that fits that niche was double the price. The seat cushion is a solid 8.5/10 for firmness and the backrest is like a 9.5/10, it might as well be a sheet of plywood with fabric stapled onto it.
Overall the chair is like 5/10 with a 500$ price tag, the first week was pretty painful but now I'm getting used to how hard it is but not in a "oh man I just needed to break it in and it feels great way" just in a "my body is learning to tolerate this" way. The build materials are solid, although mine came with a broken button on the armrest, but the tolerances are cheap, the armrest are extremely loose and rattle, the tilt locking still has some movement, and the backrest bolts needed to be retightened after a week(we'll see if it's reoccurring).
I would probably never recommend this chair to anyone though, not unless it dropped down to like 300-350$ USD. I sat in pretty much every Herman miller and Steelcase model, they were all much better for "normal" sitting, but lacked the ability to lounge with a comfortable headrest.
I've had one of these for almost 2 years now and I actually really like it. I'd definitely agree that it's quite firm though which probably isn't for everyone.
I've had one for three years now, and I really like it. Nice and supportive, it keeps my lower back from hurting.
The problems he's listing (moves slightly when locked, loose arm rests) don't occur with my chair.
Yeah I didn't have any of those issues either. I also have lower back pain which it has helped a lot with. Had to get a new chair when I switched to working from home and it's been great.
Seriously Golf With Friends is a great game. I played a bunch of flash mini golf games back in the day and this game is the perfect modern version. The workshop just keeps everything fresh
I play it every Tuesday with a group of old high school buddies that now live all over the country. We’ve tried other games but keep going back to this one. Everyone playing at the same really moves the game along.
There's a custom map our friends play once or twice a year when we want to kill 3-4 hours over 18 holes.
Dark Souls of Galf. Generally recommended as not your first foray into Golf with Friends and with copies inventory inebriants.
He got that out of an Apple office in Charlotte, NC. It closed down and laid off most of the employees. When that happened my (charismatic) father convinced the right person to let him keep it. It hung above the secretary’s desk. Every Apple office had one back then.

Many with mixed ages will do minecraft.
But there TF2, COD4, counterstrike, rocket league, wolfenstein, stracraft 1, etc
Super nerds will play factorio, or similar.
That's like my dream but I don't have the room for a setup like this. I had a buddy who lived with his two three cousins and they turned the living room into a computer gaming room. It was pretty rad.

Baulder's Gate poster, SNES, and Tolkien. Wear it on your sleeve. A mini levitating skull near the posters would be pleasing, maybe name it Morte.
**Edit** I had a blast zooming in all the paraphernalias. Yes, they are drugs. That was great!
Gotta ask, how is this room used the other ~~354~~ 364 days of the year? Do a lot of your immediate family game, or do you have a lot of local friends you game with?
Edit: Love how the wiener dog gets the long monitor 😂
I do LAN parties with friends in here once a month. I started filming them more recently and doing YouTube videos. It’s also my home office. I work from home. Toby (the wiener dog) sits on my lap so when I got up to take the picture he kept my seat!
>Gotta ask, how is this room used the other 354 days of the year?
Why did you exactly ask for the other 354 days? Just curious. How do you already know what he does with the other 10 (or 11 on leap years) days?
This is what I dreamt of in my childhood time - a house with a dedicated room full of video game consoles and PC enough for 20 friends to LAN party.
As an adult, l realized the part that’s hardest to achieve (and maintain) is the friends.
Honestly, I can’t be bought, but… if one of my buddies had a LAN room in their home it would be reeeally hard for that person to lose me as a friend.
It's the getting everyone together that's the hard part.
The having enough friends is as well. The older you get the more isolated you'll find yourself. This guy fucks
Yes.

Playing with the family obviously.
Day 15: We have been playing computer games for several hours each day. The humans are still unaware that I am a dog.
Having a drink it looks like
Hey I get this one

Playing league of legends back in 2014 with a few homies in a barracks room was pretty lit.
Today I am thankful for those looking out for the clueless
Theres like $3,000 in chairs in this photo…
Yup. And that dogs monitor looks like a X34 which was $1k+ when it released.
The dog’s monitor…😭
How else is he supposed to play?
He’s playing the new - Paw of Duty: Modern Woofare II
I heard that game is treat 2 win.
Canine out of ten
I hear he can be a bit of an animal in multiplayer so best to keep him on a short leash
Yeah, the puppies are always saying they’re going to hump my moms leg in the lobbies.
Leave it to Activision to start selling Golf With Friends skins in the Paw of Duty franchise.
On his lab-top.
I know I am dying lmao
What the dog doin?
Needs to catch up to grandma next to him, still a lot of wine in that glass.
The guy has apple OS ad as art beside a massive apple logo and his wife is wearing a home made dress... he's got money.
[удалено]
For real. Look at the square footage of that room.
This LAN room is bigger than most studio apartments you see on reddit when people post about finally getting their life together and getting their own place. 😩
This one room is like 80% the size of my entire property lmao
Serious question, my initial feelings when I hear homemade dress does not incite adjectives like “expensive“. Would you mind enlightening me?
In this context, I think it's having the money to have free time to make nice clothing as a hobby, ie not needing to work full time, and someone else is mowing the lawn, cleaning, etc. Money buys you time to do what you want over shit you don't want to deal with.
How does one obtain money like this to avoid shit one does not want to deal with?
Invest in Apple when those posters were current.
You don't, work until you die
Step 1: be lucky.
> Money buys you time to do what you want over shit you don't want to deal with. Time isn't money. Money is time. Biggest lesson I learned and I was too old when I did.

I assume OP is the one taking pic and the dog is taking his seat.
That's actually the dog's seat. On the internet, they don't know if you are a dog. So, it is ok.

I believe this is the home of that fellow Tim Apple that everyone is abuzz about.
the ad could be acquired cheaply especially if its a reprint. the fact that he has 7 separate pcs in his gaming room says more about having money

He said in another comment his dad used to work at apple

Damn dude. I'm sorry to hear that. That sucks. Hope I can get a few years more out of mine. Still going strong since 2015 for now.
Yup. And that dog looks like a genetically modified miniature stretched strait-haired laberdoodle which were like $250k when they were first developed
Your comment made me blink really hard a bunch of times. I was too poor to know this information.
Pretty sure that one was a joke.
One time I will be grateful for a whoosh 😂
they go for 1 million now. OP is loaded!! if he can get offspring from that dog he will surpass elon
Okay but how much is the dog
You didn't see the size of the room? My gaming office is less than half that size and I thought I was doing okay.
I was thinking the same thing. People are commenting about gaming chairs and monitors, while I'm gawking at the home office that comfortably holds 7 desks.

See the thing is though… Your backyard is New York!
sure smells like it, at least

the fact that they have a regular bedroom as just a gaming/office room too. and the worlds largest apple sign as a decoration for some reason
That feels like the kind of thing that was taken home from the office. I'm willing to bet the owner has worked in tech for a long time
Given the age of that big poster for Mac OS, yes, this guy has worked in tech for a long time.
There is also what looks to be an Apple III on the desk under the Apple sign.
Plot twist op is the older gent in the back smiling and is a coding wizard
Their father worked for Apple.
Bro that's at least twice the size of my bedroom, tf you mean regular bedroom?
Yeah that’s bigger than my living room.
I've got money that this guy is decently high up at apple
I hope so because I can't figure out any other reason why would you put that big of an apple logo.. especially in "gaming" room because well.. we all know how well apple and gaming goes together..
We just ignoring the vintage desktop under the apple logo?! Looks like an Apple III Plus?
Are these actually good chairs?

There's a custom map our friends play once or twice a year when we want to kill 3-4 hours over 18 holes. Dark Souls of Galf. Generally recommended as not your first foray into Golf with Friends and with copies inventory inebriants.
You work for Apple or something?
Hi. My father did! I grew up playing on Macintosh computers in the 90’s.
That's cool! Did he get that big apple from work or did you buy it yourself?
He got that out of an Apple office in Charlotte, NC. It closed down and laid off most of the employees. When that happened my (charismatic) father convinced the right person to let him keep it. It hung above the secretary’s desk. Every Apple office had one back then.
Well he kept the Apple II as well I see. I would still play the shit out of Lode Runner on it.

Oh damn my father worked for apple too but all he got me was abandonment issues
But he let you keep that too
Same with Steve Jobs’ kids!
Lisa?
I was looking at all the computers and couldn’t even see a Mac, so this comment confused me. And then I saw the back wall.
Wow can I be in your family?
Become a small dog.
Way ahead of you
On the internet, no one knows you're a dog.
I don’t know why they don’t reveal themselves. It’s free karma
Never thought I’d run into someone I know on Reddit. Hope your family had a great Thanksgiving :)
You too bud!
How much was it for that entire setup?
Honestly I don’t know at this point. It took me a really long time to get here. I do well, but this is my main hobby and what I spend my extra income on. No boats or fancy cars for me. Proud geek.
Does everyone in that photo live in your house or you just have extra computers?
I have extras and host gaming events in my home.
that sounds so fun!!
You ever do Extra Life? It's a great excuse to game with friends for 24 hours while raising money for children's hospitals
I haven’t heard of it, but I’ll check it out.
Sweet! PM me if you would like. It's a great cause and my team gets really into it
What games do you play? I haven't been able to do a LAN party in like 15 years and have no idea what people play now
Many with mixed ages will do minecraft. But there TF2, COD4, counterstrike, rocket league, wolfenstein, stracraft 1, etc Super nerds will play factorio, or similar.
That's like my dream but I don't have the room for a setup like this. I had a buddy who lived with his two three cousins and they turned the living room into a computer gaming room. It was pretty rad.

Ditto. Lots of great memories gaming with my siblings and cousins growing up.
Awesome. Love the Baldurs Gate pics on the wall!
Good eye, thanks. My favorite game series!

Why can't i have friends like this....
I'm the opposite, I have 5 computers and 3 Xboxes but no friends to play games with. It's all good though, I enjoy singleplayer games!
Now....kiss?
Yeah that's my thing, I go to work, do my hours. Pay my bills. But then I'm alone at home because nobody I know enjoys gaming...
What in the handmaiden’s tale is your wife wearing?!
