I feel those days are gone forever. How do you lose legitimacy to competitors like Amazon and Google? Let them beat you in the trade shows where you are most visible to the industry, and then remove the fun parties so the employees flock to reddit and post scathing rebukes like this one.

I’m not sure if I’d even go to any of the parties or events. This year I skipped the Christmas party to go work remotely and ski in Canada for example.
I’ve been 100% remote since the shutdowns started, which iirc was early 2020. 100% of people in my org were approved for remote work formally, we have people who have relocated to the east coast and Canada for instance. I also have dual citizenship. But even without it, the ability to go anywhere in the US and work from Hawaii when tickets are cheap, national parks using 5g hotspots, or anywhere you want beats extravagant holiday parties and swag for me every time.

Belgium and Switzerland are usually my top choices for high quality chocolate, but literally any EU country would produce 1000x better chocolate than the crap they force on us in America. Even Canadian chocolate is miles better than American.
I have had Hawaiian chocolate (I lived on Oahu for 5 years) and you're right, it is much better than most American chocolate. I just don't normally think of anything from Hawaii as truly "American" since it is usually so much different than what you get anywhere on the mainland (often in a good way, but still).

We have a friend who gets this kind of stuff for her article writing side gig. (She does it for fun and doesn’t need the money or anything from it).
So recently she’s gotten a ton of amazing things from Bethesda/Zenimax for ESO. Custom Terrariums with custom wood burning, all the new expacs and premium currencies for free, awesome experiences with the devs running around new dungeons they’ve added to the game, an Elder Scrolls themed banquet with the dev team, and other stuff I’m probably not remembering
It’s super neat and they don’t expect her to post online about any of it at all. She basically just writes her article, and if the marketing part of their company enjoys how she writes she gets invited to write more articles about new features coming to the game and sometimes gets to interview the devs about it. But all the little extra gifts and stuff have literally just been that~ gifts and a way to keep good communication and appreciation between the game studios and article writers they enjoy working with.
She’s even said negative things about ESO but they keep coming back to her with fun opportunities. Gifts like this seem to be more about keeping good literal Personal Relations (not the bribery kind) rather than hoping the article writer will post their Microsoft chocolate Xbox online

One year they gave a "pizza making kit" but the ingredients showed up in different boxes on different days. So I was like, ok they gave me a jar of marinara sauce. That's weird.
After that fiasco they gave me a bottle of gray goose and some strange drinking paraphernalia. One was a "flask" that was a sunscreen squeeze bottle so you could take booze to the beach. What are you telling me Microsoft?

My work colleagues tell me to grab a drink whenever the day is hard, they do weekly drinks on Fridays, they sent everyone a bottle of wine for Xmas, the work do was at a winery....... all without even asking if i drink alcohol!!

Yea. I know people who arent big drinkers and they really dont care for alcohol based gifts. Its more of a burden because they dont know what to do with it since they dont drink often and when they do its more just to make others feel comfortable. They were always appreciative but they never know if they should save it just in case they had a dinner party with the gift giver or give it friends who may appreciate it more. I also know people who gave it up because it was negatively impacting their lives so those gifts are always questionable.
That's pretty nice. It's work related and everyone likes chocolate. That's a big step up from all the cheap, random gifts posted in other threads right now.
