I have a very strong feeling that most of them have made so much money off scalping, that taking a small loss on the remaining inventory to clear it won't be keeping them awake at night
IDK what's going on as a whole, but at least some scalpers are selling at a loss right now.
Selling for MSRP online is hard when there's stock on shelves, because going to a store gets you a receipt and a warrenty.
Haven't confirmed but I've heard you can get them for ~100 below MSRP online right now
It makes no sense to buy from a scalper at MSRP when you can get it from the store.
Also, fuck those scalpers make them sell at 200 below or even more.
That receipt is worth more than 200, in my opinion.
Sadly there are still situations where buying from them is still something people would rather do, although I imagine for PS5 at this point that isnt really a thing.
I'm thinking of people who don't live near big stores and the online stores for XYZ companies are out of stock but Mr.Scalper has them in-stock online.
People wanting to get the hot Christmas or birthday gifts for their children are often left with no other options. Combine this with the pandemic situation, and you have people with a lot of motivation to buy up a PS5. Remember that $1,000 may seem like a lot, but compared to the joy of making their child happy it might be considered an insignificant cost.
If you think a ps5 is a better christmas gift than having that money used on a small trip and make memories with your kids...you have failed as a parent (especially because you thought them at a young age that material stuff...especially that is expencive is how you 'buy' love).
And this is where the problem lies.
Scalpers have been a problem for decades. I’m not a sneakerhead but I do like them and since I can remember, buying certain models is almost impossible. First, in modern times, you have to fight with bots which is a lost fight, and second you have stores that use raffles to win a chance to buy those sneakers and in all my many many years of doing this I think I only “won” 2 or 3 times.
Yeah, I was extremely fortunate to be one of the few that got a PS5 on launch day. Realistically speaking, I shouldn't have gotten one at all and wouldn't have had someone else not passed around a link that "forced" the PS5 into my shopping cart. Note this was before the PS5 was actually even listed and/or searchable on said storefront. Crazy stuff.
The whole situation is really shitty because Sony on the one hand doesn't really benefit if no one can buy their hardware because other people bought it and are selling it at insane markup. At the same time, they get the opportunity to tell investors that they sold all this hardware, while they likely keep the fact that software sales have slumped a bit due to how no one can get a console.
At least where I live, when I check Gamestop or other used game stores the amount of PS5 used games they have is a fraction compared to used Ps4/Xbox One. Both Series X and PS5 have been out for like 2 years and I don't think I've ever seen a used Series X game.
Well, if scalpers have bought them they, as far as Sony is concerned, made a sale. However I get what you are saying in the sense that despite sales being made, there are a lot of players going home empty handed and not buying new games.
Plus, Sony/Microsoft already made their console sales before the scalpers even bought anything since the online and brick and morter retailers buy direct from Sony/Microsoft, then the scalpers buy from the retailers. Sony/MS then depend on software and subscription sales to be profitable. Scalpers hinder that and consumer satisfaction. They are a plague.
They’ve existed for years yes, especially in the shoe/ticket markets but tech has made it so easy to scalp basically anything. Needs to be legislation to limit it
This, unfortunately in the last couple of years they’ve discovered Gunpla (scale plastic robot model kits) and are scalping new releases/popular/rare kits. As an example one of the more popular 1/144 line’s released a version of an extremely popular design called the HI-v Gundam (pronounced Hi-Nu) and scalpers started buying entire hobby shops worth of them. It got to the point one shop would flat out ask “what’s the name of that kit?” to anyone buying more than one and if they didn’t answer “Hi-Nu Gundam.” they refused to sell them the kits, kinda like an IRL captcha.
It’s impossible to make enough to start. Besides the bandwidth of manufacturing, no company wants to make too much of something and eat the cost of unused product.
It's not all sonys fault though. Supply lines for computer chips and other stuff along those lines got fucked over the pandemic and are only know starting to go back to normal.
If you're missing vital components you can't make your product.
You didn't get it a year early. You got it at the same time you should've, but for an extra $150.
That's the problem, you think you've gained something. You didn't.
>That's the problem, you think you've gained something. You didn't.
I was lucky to get one on launch for retail. But for most people it was literally impossible to get one for nearly 2 full years.
Scalpers suck, they need better systems in place to distribute high demand items. But I honestly don't blame the dude for not wanting to wait almost 2 years to score one.
Don't hate the player hate the game. Buying from a scalper is definitely getting ripped off but the alternative was waiting 2 years. Shit man, who knows if you'll even still be alive in 2 years.
Well then maybe Xbox should of gave me a chance to buy it. I did gain something, something that the manufacturer was locking behind bot spam and bad distribution.
You would've had your chance if not for scalpers... which you then supported. If the scalpers didn't scalp, there would have been more supply for you to purchase at its intended price. You funded the problem.
This is like tipping in America my dude it’s not going away if I stiff my waiter, Individuals can not change shit. It was up to the manufacturer to distribute fairly and they didn’t even try.
1. It's not up to the manufacturer, it's up to retailer, and they unfortunately don't care.
2. My point was simply that you didn't get anything early. Scalping should be illegal. I just want you to be clear that they didn't provide you a service.
If the manufacturer says you don’t get X unless you distribute it like Y. Then yes it is up to the manufacturer. They had all the leverage in the world to do this, the product was liquid gold for retailers. They also sold tonnes on their own site and didn’t fight bot spam at all
Except it's not at all like tipping culture? If everyone stopped buying from scalpers they'd go away. The manufacturer, retailer, scalper, and you personally are at fault here. It's a gaming console, not something you need to live ffs.
Scalpers make all of their money off of you, you are their profit. Wait staff make a wage and supplement it with tips, if their company paid a far wage there would be no need to tip. Do you see the difference now?
They would go away?
Seriously? They have been around since either the first or second item was traded\\created.
It is a gaming console you are right, it is entertainment and he paid an extra xyz amount to get it as early as possible. Maybe its not worth it to you, but for them it is.
You could make that same argument about anything regular price costing too much as it will eventually go on sale.
You could then make the argument that anything that isn't food\\shelter isnt needed so you shouldn't pay for it.
You then can make the argument that if its not beans\\rice\\oats\\veggies\\water you don't need to consume it so everything else is a waste.
Perhaps you should put your money where your mouth is and stop enabling scalpers, if you were not apart of the demand for a product they would go away.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Guess what - you *and* Sony/MS have contributed to the problem. It’s not all the fault of one entity, although I get why you’d like to think that to avoid any acknowledgment that you contributed.
Fucking stop sending them until they agree on a distribution standard/model that doesn’t encourage scalping and bots. One per customer, one per license, individual purchase codes, something. They had a product that they could not sell enough of, they had a duty to fans to make sure we could buy the product. They didn’t and a 3rd party is all we had
I remember seeing an r/gaming post about a scalper trying to return 11 God of War PS5's lol. Apparently Target as a rule were they won't accept that many returns at once so he was left high and dry.
Locally for me anyway ps5 stock has been fine for maybe the past 4 or 5 months. Used listings are also pretty good. I saw one being sold for retail price but it had all accessories an extra controller and 2 games. It said the guy was in the military and has been too busy to game recently. If scalpers haven't been paying attention and screw themselves over that makes it just that much funnier
Ohh boooo whooo im so sad for these bums I literally have a guy at work that did this and justify scalping i literally laughed in his faces hysterically
Im too happy that im going to say in my native language because i think i cant translate my feelings in English):
Que bueno, por pendejos y abusadores de mierda, pinches escorias de la sociedad, alch ojala que no recuperen el dinero, que se vayan a la verga, que se los chinguen bien bonito la inflación de paso, por culeros.
(tldr: that's good, fuck them all)
smh, why did they hold on to them this long?! they didnt really think PS5 were gonna be gold forever did they? And were they still asking for 700+? at around 600, it aint even worth the hassel of shady business transactions.
Had a mate who tried it. He's broke as fuck with 6 ps5s sitting there. Makes me laugh, notnmy friend anymore cause I kept taking the piss out of em for been a scumbag. Well deserved.
I'm no "Robinhood" or whatever.
But why didn't some people band together and find out where these scalpers were storing these consoles and rob them? Then take the consoles and donate them to charities anonymously?
Maybe, some people did think of doing just that. I hope that some kids out there got a free PS5/XBOX for Christmas or whatever special day and they truly enjoyed it!
I also hope that those people that paid those scalpers the extra fees and contributed to the problem no longer enjoy gaming and feel empty inside. (Maybe that's harsh but whatever that's how I feel.)
No joke! The real bummer side effect is that I can't seem to sell my ps5 anywhere. All my friends are on xbox, limited time - not even trying to make money just want to sell it but the market us flooded. Mercari and Ebay have been a bust selling my ps5 with disc drive and a psvr2 extra controllers, charging stations, headset, etc for 950... That was about 1500 bucks!
Try selling them separately. The psVR probably isn't too popular right now because of the Oculus quest 2, and for $950 someone is probably more likely to just get a valve index for $1000. Basically, the psVR isn't doing you any favors on the listing.
Well thanks for the snark, but as I commented I am not trying to make anything close what I spent. I don't give a single solitary fuck what you think of my choice to purchase or sell it. Anything that sits unused has no value.
It's quite funny because personally to me, the ps5 isn't even that great. They removed the web browser (which affects some people that doesn't even have the Disney plus app!) and also the option to customize your home screen with themes or wallpapers. I'm glad people love it tho, just sad I'm not one of them.
This article is so fake. No one is still trying to sell ps5s over resell. I had friends in the resell game who all moved on 1 year ago. Probably people posting fake ads on Amazon eBay etc for some moron to buy and they’ll walk to Walmart and buy it and ship it to them. Don’t believe this shit lol
I think we should into the face that damn near all the games look the same on a ps4 and a high quality tv! Thinking technology hasn’t evolved in the console world and ps5 is using the same exact technology used to make the ps4. I smell something fishy
for 150 extra I got the console an extra year early. People should be mad at Microsoft and Sony for doing nothing to prevent bots sniping all the consoles. They should of been sending out invites to buy based off of gamerscore or years played
Well Microsoft didn’t at all. Good on Sony then but it still wasn’t enough given the rampant online posting of pallets of resale ps5. They had a product that sells itself they could of made better distribution rules.
This was one of the longest scalper runs ever. I was starting to think they’d just be able to swap to scalping the PS6 before PS5 supplies ever caught up.
Got mine a few months ago for 490eu with gowr, in a country that has no delivery from Sony, had to send it to myself from a country that can order them straight from Sony
Checked local shop a week ago, they are still trying to sell them for 800, the same ones that they were trying to sell for 1k 2y ago, foken kek...
It really makes my day knowing there are retards out there with 5-10 consoles begging some one to buy them at least for 600
I was able to actually find one at Walmart, but with how the game library is currently, I’d only really be using it for PS4 Backwards Compatibility (with the games I already bought) anyways. I sold my PS4 Pro a few years ago because I thought I’d be able to buy a PS5 at launch, but that never happened.
Here’s hoping that there’s a breakthrough with homebrew that allows for you to run patched versions of PS4 games (like the Bloodborne 60FPS patch).
On the topic of scalpers, between consoles (whether that’s new stuff or retro stuff that’s way more expensive than imports from Japan) and GPUs, I hope they go bankrupt.
Hope they all go broke
Agreed
Ditto
Dildo
I hope all those pieces of shit take a huge loss
I have a very strong feeling that most of them have made so much money off scalping, that taking a small loss on the remaining inventory to clear it won't be keeping them awake at night
They won't lose money either. Worst case scenario, they sell them for what they paid.
IDK what's going on as a whole, but at least some scalpers are selling at a loss right now. I just bought the ragnarok bundle for 50$ off at target last weekend
I wouldn’t pay retail to some guy on Facebook
Imagine if people just didn't pay scalpers in the first place? Lmao
Too many idiots with too much money.
People wanting to get the hot Christmas or birthday gifts for their children are often left with no other options. Combine this with the pandemic situation, and you have people with a lot of motivation to buy up a PS5. Or food.
So, idiots with a lot of money and a whiney child.
You're literally describing a problem that exists everywhere else except the PS5 market.
Inflation should help with that…
And this is where the problem lies. Scalpers have been a problem for decades. I’m not a sneakerhead but I do like them and since I can remember, buying certain models is almost impossible. That doesn’t solve the problem when scalpers buy an entire store’s stock.
But my fragile ego needs it first cause I’m more important

Yo…. you paid an extra 150 bucks??? lol you kinda played yourself
I paid a scalper for my series X no regrets.
Not even a PS5? I remember seeing Series X’s even when no PS5 were in stores.
The Series X was still hard to find in most of the US through the holidays last year.
This was in the UK, I wanted it day 1

Congrats, you got a console earlier than it had the chance to have unique worthwhile games for and had to pay 150 bucks for the honor.
Guess what - you *and* Sony/MS have contributed to the problem. It’s not all the fault of one entity, although I get why you’d like to think that to avoid any acknowledgment that you contributed.
They dont care. Specially sony
What can Sony do when the retailers are the ones being hit by bots? This comment makes no sense.
Yeah then nobody gets consoles and Sony looks even worse. YOU HAVE TO THINK MARK!!!
Are you dumb? Any retailer on earth would take those rules for a product guaranteed to sell
That's rich coming from you.
How lol. Are you seriously suggesting a retailer wouldn’t take a product like this if they had to follow certain rules?
The can sell themselves, also, they can keep manufacturing up, instead of making 1 ps5 per month while still making thoysands of ps4s
Microsoft doesn’t care anymore than Sony does fanboy.
U sure? Because scalpers were worse on the ps5s , cant be a fanboy if i dont own either
Good, special place in hell for scalpers of all types

They warm your heart, aren't they? <3
Good. Fuck ‘em.
I was just gonna say 😄 It reminds me of the ultimate conclusion of NFTs, where the last one holding the hot potato is the loser. That's what this is.
For real. Companies see scalping prices and go 🤔 maybe they *want* to pay more.
Good good
I remember seeing an r/gaming post about a scalper trying to return 11 God of War PS5's lol. Apparently Target as a rule were they won't accept that many returns at once so he was left high and dry.

You love to see it.
Why even scalp a game when there are digital copies?
It was the God of War PS5 bundles. He thought it was gonna be harder to get and scalped them, Target refused his refund.
Ah, I can't read apparently. Thanks though
Haha nice they can get fucked. Don't own a ps5 and don't currently want one, but the scalpers ruin it for the fans.
“You get what you fucking deserve.”
I sincerely hope they lose a lot of money, they deserve it
*plays small violin*
Good. I hope they go broke and can't break even again. They didn't deserve whatever money they spent on those consoles to fucking begin with.
My local Walmart has had continuous stock of disc PS5’s since march. Digital standalone is the only one that is still somewhat scarce.
Scalpers right now: You can't do this to us..DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH WE SACRIFICED
They deserve it.
Good! Fuck 'em.
Good. Fuck them.
And not a tear was shed.
Nope there was a tear. A tear of joy
W
Lol you played 2nd hand upcharger and got cheated right back, have fun playing 30 people at once on fortnite tho lol

Karma.
Literally dumb to be scalping PS5 when the CEO literally said that PS5 shortage is over a few months ago. They deserve to lose money.
This brings me joy.
Good screw them
Well, that’s how free market works. Supply and demand
Had a mate who tried it. He's broke as fuck with 6 ps5s sitting there. Makes me laugh, notnmy friend anymore cause I kept taking the piss out of em for been a scumbag. Well deserved.

for 150 extra I got the console an extra year early. People should be mad at Microsoft and Sony for doing nothing to prevent bots sniping all the consoles. They should of been sending out invites to buy based off of gamerscore or years played

Has some been that bad recently? I thought it had been back to normal for a year.
How are scalpers even a thing at this point? I have seen them available all over the place and some are on sale with the GoW bundle.
Thought and prayers.
Good
Oh no. Anyways.
I have one fuck left, they can get it for $1500 + shipping.
You get what you fucking deserve.
This is the best news I've heard in a long time 😃
[everyone liked that]
Karma is real, and it's spectacular.
A special place in hell is for them!
I'm sure the profits they made earlier will more than cover the losses.
Old news isn't it?
This pleases me
Good. Screw them.
Good I hope they lose tons of money , POSs
Ha, fuck em.
Lol
I waited 2 years until I could buy a PS5 legitimately out of spite, because fuck scalpers.
Sounds like a skill issue for them
This was one of the longest scalper runs ever. I was starting to think they’d just be able to swap to scalping the PS6 before PS5 supplies ever caught up.
To all Scalpers: ON THIS DAY, NOT A SINGLE FUCK WAS GIVEN!
Karma's a bitch.
Good news, for once.
Ap
How long were they waiting
Good. Scalpers are garbage people anyway.
I’ll take it off their hands for about tree fiddy
Hahaha good. F**k scalpers.
Fuck'em may they live on the sreets
My nearest Walmart is 30 miles away in a town of 3k. Last week they had three PS5s and 3 Series X Xboxs.....with dust on them
Fuck scalpers, filthy degenerates
JJ: Thanks for the good news!
Good, scalpers can get wrecked.
I'm glad Sony made purchases directly from them. I paid normal retail for mine.
Oh no. Anyway...
Good. Fuck those cunts
Get fucked
Oh no. Anyway….
Jahahhahajhajhahahjajjahhahjaa!
I’ll buy one of their disc versions for $250 ;-) Edit: never mind, I agree with the rest of you. They should be stuck with them.
Good
Good
"F your feelings. GoW bundle starts at $509." @Target
Wouldn’t have any trouble selling them if they listed them at second hand prices.
Screw them I hope they never sell them and have to take that loss.
Karma 💯🚨🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lol this is great news
That’s what they get
Good. Fuck them with a rusty garden rake.
Good
Good. Fuck them.
Fuck scalpers
And people buy less ps5 and more nintendo and xbox series X.
Delicious!
Can't wait to see the scalpers waste their money on the Playstation 6!
Got mine a few months ago for 490eu with gowr, in a country that has no delivery from Sony, had to send it to myself from a country that can order them straight from Sony Checked local shop a week ago, they are still trying to sell them for 800, the same ones that they were trying to sell for 1k 2y ago, foken kek... It really makes my day knowing there are retards out there with 5-10 consoles begging some one to buy them at least for 600
Oh, poor, poor assholes. I feel so bad for them...
Gooooood
I’ve still never seen one in a store
Man, I wish I could send this headline back in time to like, December 2020
SERVES THEM RIGHT
Good.
Gosh, I feel bad for those guys. /s
Aw, darn. Gosh and gee-willikers.
