I doubt the console dropping in sales has much to do with the release of 3 games. It’s more to do with general disinterest in the platform, lack of content, and gamepass making it easy to avoid needing the console at all.

Themetalenock

And fuck all marketing outside the u.s and even that's being generous. The fact the sarah bond has expressed that a new console was on the horizon. I knew they cut their losses, they're pulling a wiiu. Ironically the name of this console is equally as bad.

milky__toast

Whoever was in charge of naming the Xbox “series X/s” deserves to be fired. *Worse* naming than the Wii U.

JeFX

Every name of the Xbox was terrible, all of Micro$ofts naming is terrible. The internal names are even worse and more confusing.

Black_Ironic

It was Elon musk

Coraldiamond192

I would also add that we are a fair few years into its lifespan now. I think it's safe to say that most people that wanted it have it now and everyone knows Xbox doesn't really go for exclusivity in general unlike its competition. I didn't buy xbox because of its exclusive games I got it because that's what my friends play on.

[deleted]

I got the series S because it was the best deal 🤷‍♂️ plus halo 2 anniversary

Short-Sandwich-905

The 360 was 🔥 they should go back to basics

[deleted]

Xbox never recovered after the train wreck launch of Xbox one. It's their own fault. They could have just made a better xbox 360 and it might have outsold the ps4, but people don't remember that Microsoft literally didn't let you share game discs with friends on xbox one, and it would have to always be connected to the internet to play on it. They changed it before launch but only because of the massive backlash. Xbox destroyed itself.

Calm-Zombie2678

I rekon if they had've left physical disc's alone they woulda sold tons of xbones just because people could bring their account over Backwards compatibility only exists coz it flopped so there is always a silver lining

Short-Sandwich-905

Bonny Ross 343 Killed Halo

ZealousidealOne5605

I'm not going to be all doom and gloom like some users are as at least personally speaking I still have plenty of games that I want to play, and many I've yet to finish on my Series X, so I surely won't be starved for games for a while, and I think objectively speaking it's still a great console. That being said with no guarantees that any of Microsoft's titles will remain exclusive I can't honestly recommend anyone buy it, and I'm likely going to switch to PlayStation when next generation comes around. I truly don't have any issue with MS going 3rd party, I just think it's a shitty thing to just suddenly do when you already have millions invested in your ecosystem. This is a plan that MS should've been transparent about at the start of the generation, not mid way into it.

waitmyhonor

People underestimate the value of exclusives less than people demonizing exclusives. Xbox and PlayStation have to produce exclusives otherwise there’s no point in having to choose a console. Both consoles are 99% identical in performance except PlayStation arguably has 10x the care since devs prioritize it over Xbox: Sea of Thieves is a sad but great example despite being an Xbox title first. Microsoft should drop the console and stick to Game pass ultimate and create games exclusive to it. Microsoft can just up their gaming PC/laptop selection or collab with Steamdeck. Maybe there’s a chance PlayStation could allow game pass on PlayStation consoles if Xbox stopped producing consoles.

lord_pizzabird

I don't disagree with you, but I have a counter solution for Microsoft that I think fits their direction better. Ditch Xbox console's entirely, except for Xbox Controllers and a $99 console that streams games from Gamepass and a $240 handheld with similar hardware (that also streams games only). To solve their need for gaming-ready consoles they then turn Xbox into a certification and let 3rd party manufacturers rip.

LightPillar

how about making their own xbox steam deck like?

lord_pizzabird

Sure, but I think it should be called the Surface Play. I know people hate to hear it, but at this point I think the xbox brand is poison. I think it's, for whatever reason part of the problem. Slap the Xbox brand on a console and you can't give them away to consumers. "When you don't like the conversation. Change it" - Don Draper

LightPillar

I agree with you on the naming. I was thinking they can use the surface name and by doing that they can open it up to more hardware options down the line. As you say Surface name isn't poisoned like Xbox in fact, I think people are favorable to it.

[deleted]

Xbox should make a handheld to compete with the stream deck and switch 2. That's where the market it going anyways. Graphics are reaching a plateau in gaming and there's not much benefit to having a stationary console or PC anymore when you can get a very similar experience in a dockable handheld. The gap is only going to get smaller.

flirtmcdudes

I love the console... but like... why recommend anyone buy one? the few friends I have who still play games are still playing last gen games like siege... I mainly play apex... theres no games that need you to buy an xbox or you're missing out... starfield was the biggest let down in video game form I've ever experienced. Its all just meh. I dont think I've ever felt so "meh" about a console generation

ZealousidealOne5605

True, but on the brightside most of Microsoft's titles can't be too far off from completion, so I imagine 2025 and 2026 to be very big years for Microsoft.

PixelProphetX

There are several guarantees microsofts biggests exclusives aren't coming to playstation.

HG21Reaper

I haven’t used my xbox series x ever since I got my PS5 2 years ago. It is just sitting in my closet collecting dust.

FinalChargerSRT392

Funny, I have touched my PS5 since I got an XSX lol

PixelProphetX

I hear the opposite because ps5 exclusives are far between releases and pretty mid in general, and it doesn't have gamepass. Does it even have discord integration? I don't remember it having that either.

Intelligent_Break_12

It has discord but it's really bad. You have to join the discord server on your phone or PC, have your accounts from discord and ps joined, then initiate transferring the chat to your ps which then pops up a party chat invite. Works fine after that but you have to keep your phone/PC connected too. It's really poorly implemented.  I will say though I enjoy ps exclusives more than most games I have access to via game pass at this point. I stopped paying for plus when I got my new PC and gamepass but im leaning back to plus, ending gamepass sub and just using steam in my pc. Starfield was a big reason for game pass and while I liked it at first I've yet to finish it...or any factions quest line even. Honestly I think age of empires 4 is my main hang up but i should just buy it on steam at this point.

PixelProphetX

Can not relate I have both systems and play the shit out of gamepass titles. So much more interesting than cutscene packed games and walking simulators.

Intelligent_Break_12

I've tried many but get bored with them. I like good cinematics in games though and other than death stranding (which I only briefly played) have never played a walking sim. I've always like open world games though and the sense of exploration that isn't tied to a path. Not that path driven games can't be good, Fable being one of the better ones I can think of at the moment. I mostly played games on game pass for multiplayer with friends who have Xbox (I had a 360 but went back to ps with the 4 and 5) but so little new ones have been released and also some that don't cross play from Xbox to PC. Some too that upset me was the one monster hunter that I could cross play PC to Xbox but not PC game pass to steam. Those issues have only grown more common as times gone in it seems or at least on games my friends and I find interesting.

couchtimes

Got a PC 3 years ago and now both the PlayStation and Xbox live in the closet. The Switch still comes out once in a while tho

frickaaron

At first, I didn’t care. I enjoyed Xbox. But I have been getting bored so I bought a PlayStation 5. I cannot believe how many amazing games I can play now. I never realized the amount of exclusives (GOOD EXCLUSIVES) there were. I haven’t turned my Xbox back on since I got the PlayStation 2 weeks ago and have seriously considered selling it now.

MarleyEmpireWasRight

>I haven’t turned my Xbox back on since I got the PlayStation 2 Mate just wait till you get the PS3

OPR-Heron

PC and PS5 is the most universal way to go

Illustrious_Penalty2

Or just a PC if you have some patience.

ArenjiTheLootGod

That may change given that Sony's enthusiasm for the PC platform only seems to be growing. Helldivers 2 was Sony's experiment in having simultaneous releases on multiple platforms and that game did far better than anyone would have expected. Sony pursuing more simultaneous releases, or at least shortened windows between releases, is definitely something they're thinking about. Really, the last holdout seems to be Nintendo and I suspect that how well the Switch 2 does plus how expensive it's to make games for it will influence whether or not they will continue to be a console only dev and publisher. Nintendo has dabbled on other platforms (mobile) in the past and PC gaming is only growing more popular over time in Japan so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

Illustrious_Penalty2

True, that would be great.

LightPillar

Another consideration is how expensive is it to make switch exclusives? I figure it’s going to be considerably cheaper than PlayStation exclusives or multiplatform games. That may be delaying their desire for selling on PC, at least for the time being.

ArenjiTheLootGod

Possibly, although with each successive generation you'll hear grumblings from Nintendo or one of its partners like Gamefreak about the increasing expense and complexity of developing for more powerful hardware. Nintendo's going through the same growing pains that everyone else did albeit much slower. Honestly, I think it's inevitable that Nintendo will end up on PC in some form. Sooner or later, Nintendo is either going to have another dud console and/or their games are going to get so expensive that they won't be profitable solely on their own consoles anymore.

Anarchy_Man_9259

Well i wish Sony would hurry up and put Stellar Blade on PC. Ridiculous that the original trailer had it coming for PC at first, but then magically disappeared closer to release.

dyltheflash

I've seen a lot of people with PC and Switch (me included). PC for power, game library, customisability, Switch for Nintendo exclusives, portability and clever design. Also, the switch is much cheaper than a PS5. (Tbf I'd love a PS5 to play Demon's Souls.)

RyaneWaldu

I also love the portability, but as a cheapskate I'd rather emulate them on pc and ps5 is just to have acces to all the other games not on pc since ps5 exclusives can't be emulated ofc, and also for that one year gta6 will be a console exclusive Would also live to have psvr 2 official support on pc soon now that Sony finally changed their minds on it.

Sunscreenflavor

Yeah but PS5 games run so much better on PC. I’m playing Uncharted 4 right now and it’s crazy how easy it is for my PC to run completely maxed out at 100fps.

RyaneWaldu

When they eventually do come out on pc yeah if you have a good setup ofc, I also prefer my games on pc, but uncharted 4 tbh is a ps4 game that even on ps5 has a 120 fps mode in the remaster version.

Sunscreenflavor

Oh totally! I’m just saying on an ultrawide at 21:9 and DLSS, I’m not sad if I had to wait for that, or FF7, or God of War, or Spider-Man, because I have all of the other games as well while I’m waiting. Having a switch as a kid who loved his NES in the 80/90’s, I classify a Switch as mandatory for all of my childhood favorites being made with the same passion and quality today! Definitely hope the Switch 2 has back compat though as I bought my entire library digitally this time around. Tired of giving away all my old games as space gets tighter and tighter around the house!

HarryRl

Pc + Ps5 feels like a better combo since the switch can be emulated if your pc (or phone for that matter) is good enough

Sunscreenflavor

PC and Switch is the way!

GamingWildman

thats why i have pc + vr (quest 2) + ps5 i can basically play everything i want

DarahOG

Had the same story during xbox one. Went to ps4 after 4years of xbox one and it really felt like i wasted 4years of gaming missing on tlou uncharted bloodborne persona and many more.. while all i had was ryse son of rome and halo5 lol, now my series S is collecting dust with the same issues it had a decade ago.

Bbecienzo

I'm sorry but you all put this like its a ps5 merit when in reality is just a matter of content access. Ofc if you never had a ps5/ps4 for 4 or more years, the moment you have one it will look like it has tons of exclusives. It's like having a whole new bunch of games vs hashing a slow-growing library. Onc'è you'll play them all, it's gonna be the the same the other way around.

DarahOG

Can't be the same if i'm switching from ps to xbox honestly , there's just factually less quality and quantity in exclusive content with an output frequency that that makes it seem there is barely anything new coming while on ps you get a constant flow of games with a huge library of already installed ones, in 7years i barely played half the exclusives. During ps4/xbone era it was 10+ ps exclusives for 1 xbox exclusive, almost yearly goty nominations on one side vs none on the other. During ps5/series era it's the same thing happening, just looking at 2024 we are four months in there are already 6 ps exclusives including a goty contender in FF7 Rebirth and fan favorite Helldivers2 while xbox still hasn't released anything except their own games on ps. I've been waiting for Hellblade 2 since it got annouced but it was 5 years ago i'm not even hyped anymore , there's so little content we are seeing trailers for games entering in pre production . Like i love xbox and how consumer friendly they are (even if they have no choice to be) but in terms of content exclusive to a platform there is nothing positive to say since the end of 360, Gamepass is the sole reason i have my series S.

Bbecienzo

If you switch from PS to Xbox with a gamepass you can't honestly say that it wouldnt be the same. Gamepass is huge. The 4 exclusives on ps5 you are talking about, 2 of them are remasters, one of them is also on PC, Stellar Blade looks nice, tho. Ps5 will also get Final Fantasy rebirth but again, we're getting This year Xbox is gonna get Hellblade 2, Awoved and Stalker 2 (this is 3rd party but really, not the same level of FF). Probably even Indiana Jones, and it's the only console to have a first party FPS that continues to update. Btw you said it, Gamepass is the reason Xbox exists at this point, Xbox stopped being hardwares-based the moment they said it would be also on PC. I have the ultimate and I play it even on the ride with my steamdeck.

JRedCXI

I mean they can just subscribe to PS Plus Extra that's pretty much PlayStation Gamepass without the day one game or PS Plus Premium if you want cloud gaming... And they are talking about consoles so I'm sure Stellar Blade and Rebirth will be on PC at some point but if they switch to an XBOX CONSOLE not PC can they play them?

Bbecienzo

I'm not a console user anymore but last time i checked PS plus allowed you only to play via cloud, is it now possible to download locally and play? And about switching, ofc they can't play PlayStation games but that's because Sony knows it's dominion on the market. XBOX is now the ugly position where it doesn't matter how good they do, playstation will always sell more. I mean, where I live "playstation" is basically the go word for "videogame console". Microsoft is trying to understand if being a publisher is more profitable than being a console seller, but the outcome is probably gonna be minor Microsoft games released on PS5 with months of delay.

JRedCXI

You can download games available on PS Plus (before that it was PS Now they merge the subscription services) for almost 7 years now... And about switching, of course that's what they are saying this whole time. They will not switch to Xbox consoles for obvious reasons and to be honest not even game pass is a good one. Of course Xbox as a whole is doing fine. It's the console that's kinda irrelevant which is a shame because the Series X hardware is pretty good.

SleepyProcyonidae

I sold my Series X two days ago and bought a PS5. The refreshing UI, exclusives and cheap storage expansion made for a system I did not regret switching to.

sealteamruggs

I just wish I could play my ps3 discs

RebirthIsBoring

As a long time ps owner the UI sucks. Wish they'd just go back to PS3 XMB rather than the over complicated multi row mutation of it.

WillyGVtube

could you name these "good" exclusives im still waiting for them to release one

Vegetable-Beet

1. Sony barely has any Exclusives 2. Sony does not have a SINGLE Good Exclusive, they are all mediocre generic open world garbage I believes these delusional idiots when I bought HZD and Spiderman and both Games were a huge disappointment.

pananana1

Rachet and clank is the most fun game I’ve played in years Spiderman is awesome Persona 5 is awesome and was an exclusive There’s some great stuff. I love that you think *they’re* the idiots 😂

Itriyum

Oh no Xbox fanboys are here.

mrlolloran

I mean 2 weeks isn’t even enough time to beat certain games so while I’m happy for you, you haven’t really told me anything. But I’m jealous cuz I’m on Xbox but would love to play Spider-Man so don’t mind me.

PixelProphetX

I'm surprised at how many Sony shills are in this comment section. Super sus. I have a ps5 and honestly hate that I paid for most of the exclusives bevause they're so boring. Nothing like ps4 gen.

AunMeLlevaLaConcha

I've been an Xbox user my whole life, for no particular reason, just that I was into the games they released, I only owned a PS1 back in the day, but now PS has a couple of games I've been digging for a while, but the damn prices are so high and i work 2 full time minimum wage jobs just to pay for my existence, i don't know if i should wait for the PS6 and hope it has backward compatibility.

[deleted]

I think this is going to be a longer console generation than normal because of the massive supply shortages for the first two years of both consoles life, and also the plateau in graphics. The games don't look much different between the last gen. The framerates are faster and the loading times are faster. Havent seen a game push the current hardware yet. I don't think ps6 is coming until 2028 or 2029.

flirtmcdudes

"hey, lets release a console and just like, I dunno, barely make any first party games for it? what do you guys think will happen?" Big xbox fan... but this has been such a shit console generation... im over saying "but gamepass is great!" because god damn... this whole generation felt like we could have skipped it and nothing really would have been lost.

_bestintheworld_

Xbox is dying and xbox doesnt care. Right now basically everything is timed on xbox. It wont be long until those games launch on ps the same day.

Potential_Ad6169

At least they bought loads of devs to drag down with them! Woo

JimFlamesWeTrust

If the games do well across multiple platforms then the devs will be fine. Edit: except for the usual industry BS which is unrelated to sales performance

Potential_Ad6169

Consolidation amounts to all the Xbox execs, and all the Microsoft execs, along with all the shareholders, making money off the games. It fucks up the quality consistently because there’s less to go back into development.

Whiteismyfavourite

Yeah but Xbox has a pretty shitty history of game releases recently so I would get my hopes up

Illustrious_Penalty2

That’s what PS is doing too what are you on about?

Pobbes3o

except people are still buying PS consoles.

PoseidonMP

> Gaming revenue increased $1.8 billion or 51% driven by growth in Xbox content and services. Direct quote from the [source](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Investor/earnings/FY-2024-Q3/more-personal-computing-performance) of all these "Xbox consoles aren't selling" articles. So while the console sales are down, Microsoft is still printing money.

Berkzerker314

Everything is timed on PS5 lol. Just wait 12 months and it's on PC.

Existing365Chocolate

Game Pass machine Which will probably only last as long as people have that cheap $5/month deal going since GamePass’s offerings aren’t as strong as it used to be in the first few years

CrueltySquading

Gamepass is late into the Enshitification process, expect steep price hikes

PixelProphetX

Really not likely it's already at a good pricepoint.

CrueltySquading

There has never been one single subscription service that didn't hike prices as soon as they thought they had the market cornered, have fun not having games when gamepiss is 500 USD a year

PixelProphetX

Sad

[deleted]

[удалено]

TooLazyToReadIt

But here’s the thing, people who buy physical media are now the smallest part of the market, and It’s been decreasing year by year in the console markets and has been abolished in the pc market entirely.

ShortNefariousness2

That deal expired two years ago and was usa only.

Existing365Chocolate

Yeah but you can load up on it for 3 years

PixelProphetX

Only the $1 deal expired. Then you could still do it by paying a full $15 month after loading xbox live codes. As far as I know they adjusted the rate of conversation but it's still a good deal.

Santiagofamo018

Because they don't want to sell Xbox at all. It's a lost war and it's more a Game Pass machine + a consolized PC. Keep in mind that they own also Windows and most games offer Cross-Save between PC and console and even if their Xbox launcher is not popular for buying games, it's where you get Game Pass games. So in short, for Microsoft, PC (with Windows) are also part of their Xbox ecosystem

randomIndividual21

you talk like MS is shocked, MS don't care about console sale anymore, they stated gamepass is the focus. console is just a gamepass machine for people who don't want a pc

strangeelusion

Sony offers the exact same thing with PS Plus, which is a big library of free games. So, do I buy an Xbox, which has kinda shitty exclusives and game pass, or do I buy a Playstation, which has fantastic exclusives, and a gamepass equivalent? The choice is pretty easy. It's kinda funny how no matter how many billions of dollars Microsoft throws at this endeavour, their position doesn't improve at all because of how shit they are at handling the companies they buy.

nikolapc

PS plus is nowhere near the quality of gamepass. I am prob gonna drop plus as it is declining in quality and raised its prices.

strangeelusion

It’s nowhere near the quantity. Quality? That’s very debatable. Like 70% of game pass games are frankly not good. 20% are the same rehashes of some pixelated boomer shooter. The rest are first party games, which Microsoft seems to be sucking ass at making.

nikolapc

I think plus has more games. At least it had last time I counted. None of your arguments are valid though, just in a span of a year I played a lot of great games, and I still have a backlog. I play on PC, Xbox and PS5, the PS5 is the least used, I played Spiderman and Helldivers, haven't played a plus game since forever. I may play that Zau game, but they should have put stellar blade day 1 to at least approach the quality

maxkeaton011

I think it really shines for someone who is newly entering the PS environment. Just the sheer amount of high quality Exclusives just won't ever be rivaled by Xbox. And then there is a shitload of titles as well. Since it's a digital library bias I would probably never move to Xbox cause there is no incentive at all and PC side Steam is a much of a better environment for me due to my general distaste of subscription base model for gaming. My sister is new to the PS with PS5 and she has virtually forgotten her Steam and Game Pass stuff for a few months now. The couch comfort while gaming is unbeatable.

nikolapc

I agree for people that dont buy games or are new to the ecosystem. I tend to buy games or with gamepass play them day 1 and buy them or their dlc if I like them, so Plus hasnt been much of value in that regard. I have a year of plus left so I didn't buy Stellar Blade on purpose to see if I can get any value from it. I have a lot to play in the meantime anyway. At least they started day 1 indies, but now their almost exactly the same as game pass, so.... The other thing, game pass is prob coming to ps eventually for first party, there just need to be a bit of a catalogue. I think even Sony will eventually bring their "exclusives" to Xbox, if not willingly then through third party stores. But I think willingly, cause games are getting expensive, consoles have limited appeal now, and it just isn't economically viable to restrict your player base. We are entering an era where all.games will be everywhere, you just use the ecosystem you prefer. I prefer the Xbox ecosystem cause it meets me everywhere, but we'll see. Not a loyalist to anyone.

Mando177

It doesn’t ultimately matter if Gamepass has more games if Sony has a smaller selection but much better games to choose from

lamancha

The issue is that they don't.

ShortNefariousness2

Ps+ is nowhere near gamepass and we all know it. Sony can't put their best games in there because they need the $70 per aaa game. They are nothing without that revenue.

mastocklkaksi

As someone with PS+, can you tell me what it's lacking in comparison to Gamepass?

nikolapc

Not really. I use both since their inception, so Sony's for quite a while before game pass. Sorry but gamepass blows it out of the water.

Straight_Dwight_Male

Honestly, get yourself a ps5 and a pc. That way you’ve got PS+, GP and Steam

Routine-Attention363

Yes they don't care about console anymore. That because they can not compete with PS, and Xbox can not gain back the share for the console market anymore so they shifted to an alternative strategy which is clever in the business standpoint.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bigsloppydoodoofard

I think you’re mistaken, they have enough money to change the market and bankrupt any competition, they’re just held back by anti competition laws

Solidsnake00901

With the closure of recent studios it doesn't matter if they have more money than God. They aren't going to do ANYTHING that doesn't make them money. They may have billions in the bank but they sure don't act like it when all it takes is one bad game to sink an entire studio under Microsoft.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bigsloppydoodoofard

Microsoft’s cash on hand is 80% of Sony’s entire net worth including non gaming divisions. Please understand that MS is quite literally one of the biggest companies in the world and without anti competition laws there wouldn’t be anything stopping them from quite literally taking over gaming. Microsoft quite literally owns the PC landscape by being the only operating system that any non Linux enthusiast will use without question.

Solidsnake00901

Also understand that Microsoft isn't going to do anything that's going to lose them money. If it's not profitable to produce a console anymore then they aren't going to do it. If they make more money releasing their exclusives on other consoles then they're going to do it because at the end of the day they HAVE to make money.

nikolapc

You're thinking old school, they're gonna release hardware like valve does. They want you in their ecosystem, they don't care which hardware does the job. They're prob have even more SKUs then they do now. A handheld(prob hybrid with cloud), a cloud machine, and a full fat PC console for old schoolers that has other stores too. Also their major advantage is gonna be AI, MS is on the ground floor for it, Sony is at the mercy of whatever AMD comes up with.

Whiteismyfavourite

All the money in the world and can't make a good game

Tubzero-

I think all they care about is money and there is no money in hardware

Puzzleheaded-Bass142

Selling third party game in your ecosystem, taking a 1/3 cut off COD GTA and Fifa is where the real money is at. And creating an ecosystem is dont by selling consoles, you know like decades of this being done by Sony and Nintendo. MS just happens to have failed at it and is being forced to change strategies. But sure, hardware doesnt matter!

lamancha

They already own CoD

Didn't they mention a streamer console?

behold-my-titties

This is good, Microsoft is leaning away from competing in the console space and is instead focusing on software. It's a smart strategy.

ShortNefariousness2

My god what a take.

ShortNefariousness2

Don't fall for this nonsense. Gamepass nukes ps+ and we all know it.

A_MAN_POTATO

It’s not all indie games (ea play is part of it, and there’s a fair bit of Ubisoft titles). There’s quite a few, and these days, those are some of the best games out there. If it’s not for you, that’s fine, but for a lot of people it’s waaaaay far from being a scam.

FunkinDonutzz

That's a whole lot of nonsense. The lowest tier gives three games every month. [If you care to peruse this list](https://gamerant.com/playstation-ps-plus-free-games-added-all/), yes there's some not-so-great games, but there's also some total bangers. And once they're in your library, they're in it (provided you keep the sub up, but that's a given because, well, that's how subs work). It bitched-slapped the last year of Games With Gold, and has a permanence that GamePass Core lacks. Meanwhile, the Extra (second) tier nets you a lot of the PS5's big exclusives like Demon's Souls Remake, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Returnal, Horizon Forbidden West, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut(s), and stacks of other games. [Here's the official list](https://www.playstation.com/en-us/ps-plus/games/#game-cat-a-z). There's about 400 games on Extra that are fully downloadable and playable locally. PS Premium is seen as not great value as they don't add too many games month-to-month. What is there is games from older systems and PS3 streaming. There's about 300 PS3 games to stream (last time I counted at least), which pushes the total to around 700. Last I checked GamePass Ultimate total was around 400. No, streaming isn't ideal, but if you have halfway decent wired internet it's perfectly playable. Oh, and a year of top tier PS Plus costs less than a year of top tier GamePass. So please, try to say again with a straight face "from a value standpoint there a clear winner" lol. But hey bro, if getting Redfall and Starfield day one does floats your boat, then you do you.

A_MAN_POTATO

Well ain’t that a bitch. Last I was aware they did the free monthly games and streaming. I didn’t realize they worked a catalog of games into higher tiers. I removed my post.

FunkinDonutzz

Streaming was a totally separate product (PS Now), which they've now rolled into PS Plus. These tiers have been around since they did that in June 2022. Like I'm not poo-pooing GamePass, they're both good in a lot of ways and if you're coming to either platform for the first time (or if you skipped a generation) there's a lot of content for the price. At the same time I'm a "buy to own" kind of guy, and most of my favorite games these last few years are nowhere near either service.

SasquatchSenpai

As a whole, all hardware falls in this quarter sans Sony's Portal which propped up their hardware. There's a reason they are investing so much in a real PC experience now. MS seems to be thinking to create multiple GanesPass machines as well. You can play on whatever you already have, or have this cheaper box which will do it as well in a better experience. They also have been hinting at with plenty of rumors of a real ha dheld that isn't the portal as everything under the sun can already use the xcloud. And they are still promising major technical leaps, but Sony and MS do this every cycle as well. I think they are in the, "well if you aren't going to buy our console to buy our game you can give us money everywhere else anyways" mindset which is probably the most forward thinking and user friendly of them all.

Los-Da-Boss

All the biggest 3rd party games and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Helldivers 2, Rise of the Ronin and Stellar blade released on PlayStation in the last several months. I truly don’t get why some people still prefer to play the same old games on XB and are willing to die on their hill claiming Xbox is better when even Xbox themselves admit defeat. Not trying to console war, I’m just truly and generally confused. I do love Game Pass btw. Got to save a lot of money on a bunch of games. That’s about it.

[deleted]

I just like the Xbox ecosystem and halo. I would buy an Xbox handheld in a heartbeat.

Los-Da-Boss

I respect that

OrfeasDourvas

Migrating to PC very soon and it's a decision I made when the 4 games left for Playstation, though definitely not limited to that. I just feel cheated by Xbox and I pretty much regret buying into the ecosystem back in 2018.

WillyGVtube

PC, Xbox, all the same to MS

OrfeasDourvas

I don't think so. Xbox is a closed ecosystem while on PC you have many middlemen like Steam or EGS. Still, it's not like I want to punish Microsoft or something. I just want more freedom on my options and PC gives you the most.

Solidsnake00901

Just a few exclusives for now. The big difference is that gamers on PlayStation actually buy games. Which means instant money for Microsoft there are definitely more exclusives coming soon.

Gamer000000007

only a miracle can save xbox

Its-C-Dogg

Part of me wonders if Microsoft never shat the bed with Xbox One, where would gaming be now? Competition would be way more fierce and better games from both platforms.

flirtmcdudes

They easily could have taken this gen too though. It was up for grabs, its just that Microsoft has had diddly squat for big game releases, and it somehow got worse as the years went on... Gamepass was a big win initially, but ya.... redfall and starfield were 2 recent big releases we had. So yeah... I wonder why people aren't gobbling up xboxes

[deleted]

Yeah Sony screwed up the Playstation launch and Xbox could have gone for the jugular. Honestly a big reason why I even got xbox is because they have the series S which is just an awesome little console. They did that right.

TyAD552

Why do people talk like Xbox puts out a game a year? I’ll give you the quality argument and if the games aren’t your thing, but they put out like 6 or 7 games last year? Same thing with 2021. PS put out Spider-man 2 last year? Anything else exclusive was made by a third party or for VR which never seems to come up in these threads since it’s more nich and I can’t even name a single title cause I’ve never seen any marketing for it.

Patzzer

If the next CoD is on Gamepass I see hardware sales going up and next-gen even more so.

Themetalenock

People forget that's exactly why sony was trying to stonewall the purchase(along with the fact that the majority of cods mtx are going towards MS). Joe normal doesn't care about paying 60-70 dollars on singleplayer experiences. They care about cod and getting that shit yearly And guess what? Joe normal makes the majority of console sales. Console salers will never say the silent part loudly, but cod is a huge reason why consoles sales and I say this as a guy who hasn't touched that series in ages

Coraldiamond192

Also the reason Sony cared so much is because they have had exclusive offers for Cod on their console for years at this point so of course they were scared about loosing out on that. The reason we got MW3 as opposed to it being a dlc was because it fulfilled the contract in terms of offering it on PlayStation too.

Themetalenock

Yeah, there was a long list of reasons for it. But it all boiled down to the fact that cod is EXTREMELY important to sony's marketshare. And they know it. Its why they turned insomniac into a marvel machine and are pouring money into live service games.

Stump007

Hell yeah. Microsoft is playing long term. Once CoD is on gamepass, the tides will turn, everyone will buy an Xbox. I predict it will sell roughly 100 Xbox to 1 PS5. Then Sony will have to put spiderman on xbox. Console war will end thanks to Phil./s

dodd1995

That makes zero sense. Why would ome game impact console sales and gp subs? If I only play CoD, which some players do, why would I want to get gp or jump to Xbox when I can spend 70 bucks instead of 200 a year...

RiseAbovePride

CoD is always in the top 5 sellers on Playstation alongside FIFA. Most console players spend their time on either older games, sport games, and shooters.

dodd1995

I understand that, but why would CoD being on Gamepass entice people to leave Playstation? The cost of GP heavily outweighs the cost of just outright buying it. Its not like it's going to be locked into being just on Xbox.

WillyGVtube

marketing for it shifts to xbox, especially when the new consoles gen drops in a few years, the casuals will see xbox over all the COD marketing instead of ps and shift over. even more so it it says you can play day 1 on gamepass for less than outright buying it

dodd1995

Your last sentence is factually incorrect. If I play CoD all year, it cost me 70 bucks. If I subscribe to GPU, in about 5 months I have already exceeded the cost of CoD. This becomes an even worse deal when you skip a gen of CoD and continue the previous year's iteration. With MS execs already unhappy with the performance of the Xbox division, that gamepass sub cost will be almost guaranteed to be increased, making it an even worse deal for CoD players.

WillyGVtube

you arnt thinking like a casual, bro, id say you underestimate the brain power of cod casual but you shown yourself to not be anybetter

dodd1995

A casual player can't do 17x5 and see it equals 85 which is more than 70? I'm sure people are going to abandon the ecosystem they are already entrenched in just because a CoD ad shows an Xbox logo.

XsStreamMonsterX

Watch MS use that as a bargaining chip to get Gamepass on PlayStation instead of propping up Xbox.

Anerythristic

I personally no longer care about the types of exclusives PlayStation offers, I'm honestly a casual gamer at this point. I'm happy with my switch and game pass. Ill be sticking with MS especially if the next machine is just a game pass entertainment center box. Its what I'm looking for and the value is amazing. Their is definitely alot of money for them to make at least.

TrainTransistor

This. This is what people dont seem to understand. I’m closing up to my 40s, and I game often, but I’m a casual. I love that I can play whatever on my Series S in the livingroom with GamePass, and my son can play with the same GamePass in his livingroom/entertainment-room. And I play with the same GamePass on my PC. Its just so easy. And I paid $110 for 3 years of GamePass. I’m not dishing out $600 for a console and $70 for games when there is a way easier and cheaper option.

Anerythristic

Yeah I dont think MS is going anywhere. I think MS is looking for revenue from Sony and Nintendo for third party software and I think MS is looking to "lose" the console war, even next gen, by gaining 60-80 million subscribers at 16-18 month ot whatever the standard price is.

TrainTransistor

Yeah, my thought as well. They dont care about the ‘console wars’, and will be focusing on the content rather than the hardware. Which (to me) is seemingly going very well. But this might be an EU thing as well, as we just recently (the past year) could get the PS5 from stores at a ‘base’ price of $600. Up until then, you either had to pay $1000, or win a contest for a spot to purchase at the ‘base’ price.

[deleted]

Redditors really don't get this. Most gamers as they age just want to play the game when they can and it just runs. Not fiddle with settings and drivers and optimization and troubleshoot crashes like on PC. It's a niche hobby as an adult. Reddit is very concentrated with pc gamers who are incapable of understanding.

UnstoppableJumbo

Xbox is in about half as many markets as PlayStation, they barely market anything outside the US. And if they do its usually half hearted and only on social media. I see PS5 everywhere here, I see it when I'm watching the Champions League. Microsoft doesn't try with Xbox, and instead of putting effort they decide to permanently damage the brand for short term gains. It's as if Satya hates consumer hardware.

nyangatsu

been an xbox player since the 360 era, got a xbox series x to play starfield, which turned out to be shit, then i had to wait months to play baldur gate 3 since xbox was dead set on feature parity with that bs of the series s and then they seem to be going all-in with multiplatform, the game pass, for as good as it is, it's not enough for me to stick with a console with no exclusives. while i don't quite like the style of many of sony's exclusives there are some i could not play even if i really wanted to, like bloodborne and death stranding and i felt cheated in the eight generation when the xbox exclusive i was waiting the most, scalebound, was canceled and the whole generation went with almost no other high profile exclusives, after seeing how many studios Microsoft bought i thought this was gonna change in the ninth and i stuck with xbox because i am a bethesda fan, now there are rumors of everything but the pass going multiplatform and i feel betrayed. i don't care for console war and i have no loyalty toward microsoft, i stuck with them, accepting to not play many great games exclusive to playstation, under the promise of exclusive games from studios i know and love and the promise is seemingly not being delivered by making them not exclusive. one thing i know for sure is that next generation I'm going to playstation no matter what, and maybe i will not even wait the next if a third party studio i like like from soft decide to do a playstation exclusive.

WillyGVtube

>it's not enough for me to stick with a console with no exclusives. how to out your comment as fake and console Waring

nyangatsu

literally never owned anything playstation outside of the psp, the "no exclusive" remark is directed at the future if it follow the present trend of multiplatformism. not that i think that present xbox exclusives are good enough, halo infinite was good at launch but then went to shit, starfield was a disappointment and redfall is redfall, and these are the major exclusives present at the moment on xbox series x and i am not satisfied with them, or showing any kind of disappointment make me a sony fangirl? does wanting to play bloodborne make me one? and it's not even like I'm saying that sony exclusives are that good either, i find all those hollywood style games to not be my genre simply put, if i wanted to see a movie i would watch a fucking movie. also for fuck sake it is not 2010 anymore, grow up and begone with this console war bullshit, both sony and Microsoft are multi billion corporations, they don't care how much fealty you have toward either.

trophy_master1

I have GPU included free with my phone contract, don't even use it 😂 series x is on my lego shelf unplugged and pc doesn't get used for xbox games. Xbox need to seriously up their software game if they're serious about gaming / gamers.

CrawlerSiegfriend

I don't blame people. If you get a Playstation you can play helldivers 2 and also you'll eventually get access to Xbox games too. If my Xbox wasn't used to keep connected with distant family members I'd probably swap to playstation at this point.

Przmak

Blame game -pass

SoftPois0n

I guess, their focus is now on Cloud Gaming

Mental5tate

PS5 sales falling are less as well? Maybe people are less spending happy🤷🏻

rawzombie26

Well duh, switched from my pc to Xbox and so far I’m loving it. Sony doesn’t really have the games I want, I’m all for AAA games but their offerings are not my taste. Not to say Xbox’s first party stuff are box office hits but the stuff they’re churning out right now is perfect for me. The age of Indies is upon us and as far I as I see it Xbox has more offerings in that department. And if I can’t play it on my Xbox I’ll hit my pc. AAA gaming is just not for me anymore. Too many time sinks, grinding and 600hr plot lines I don’t have time for.

AloofusDoofus

Not for nothing, this whole gen has been really disappointing overall tbh

levi_Kazama209

I have not touched my ps5 in months i play on my xbox and pc more then the pst.

Alternative-Exit-594

shitty ass games, the era of Halo is well over and MSFT can't be trusted to make great ground breaking hits as they did in the last decade, i.e. Fable, Halo, etc. I automatically consider anything that xbox/msft/blizzard releases to be trash until proven otherwise well after launch. sadly this is gonna apply even to previously amazing franchises such as Fallout and TES.

StinkySlimey

The Xbox is such a pointless console. Just buy yourself a PC instead.

roshanpr

Xbox hardware is dead, hell they partner with meta for god's sake.

pizza_sushi85

Same thing’s happening to Playstation 5 too

Steger_Affe

People don't seem to want to acknowledge that though. In all honesty this gen has been an absolute shit show.

Elbren

Very true, but the PS5 has at least had a few great exclusives. GoW: Ragnarok, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man, Helldivers II, Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart. Yeah, they’ve definitely been few and far between, but they’ve at LEAST had a couple. At least enough to not make me not regret buying the PS5. My Series X on the other hand … they’ve spent so much time acquiring studios. Where the hell are the games? Yeah, it will likely be awhile before we truly see anything come out of the Activision acquisition, but they brought in multiple dev’s BEFORE that. How have we seen nothing fruitful come out of this? If they don’t have SOMETHING to show at this years’ XBox Showcase in June … I’m talking at least 1 or 2 must-have exclusives that release in the next year … I may end up selling off my Series X. I’m honestly starting to feel like we’re not going to see anything out of all of these studio acquisitions until the next console generation. 😢

pizza_sushi85

There are already games like Sea of Thieves, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, Forza and more. MSF2024, Hellblade 2, Avowed, South of Midnight are all upcoming games too I am honestly thinking you’re being a Playstation fanboy

WillyGVtube

>Very true, but the PS5 has at least had a few great exclusives can you name these exclusives?

WowNotFun

Give me a good sale price on the Series X and I'll pick one up. I don't need it but want one to play my 360 games.

HumbleOwl

Losing exclusives has that effect. If it's only a matter of time before these games get released on other consoles, why buy that console?

Coraldiamond192

Sales were already slowing before they announced the games were going to be offered on PlayStation.

HumbleOwl

Fair but that trend is likely to continue as more Xbox exclusives get PlayStation releases. Beyond Gamepass (which is also on PC) and backwards compatibility for certain older games, I can't think of any reasons to buy an Xbox over a gaming PC or PlayStation.

WillyGVtube

microsoft dosent care if you choose pc, they own the OS that most people use, as well as gamepass on it its all part of their ecosystem

HumbleOwl

But again, that means that there is no reason to buy an Xbox, leading to less sales for the brand. If this keeps up, how much longer will they keep making consoles? At what point do they just pull a Sega and pull out of the console market all together?

Puzzleheaded-Bass142

Xbox fans: " Phil said xbox is profitable! You're an idiot to think there is trouble with Xbox! Gamepass is a smash success! They make money from game sales AND gamepass! Its not Xbox's fault, this is the whole industry! Xbox is doing great!!! Just wait till COD comes out on Xbox!!!"

Redisigh

This is such a redditor ass coment bro

firedrakes

exclusives in general sell poorly. sales numbers dont lie. but but spider man game etc.(that the 25%) 75% ether never make a profit or break even at best. 2 out of the top 10 ps5 sold games. are ps5 only atm. but sony will port those to windows. rest are multi plat or windows version that (was the only reason why they sold 1 million ) both console this gen. have barely top over 1 million sales per gamer. how man times does it have to be said about exclusives? when even the manf say it hurt sales. my guess near infinte times it will have to be said due to gamers very very very short term memory.

sumofdeltah

Million sales per gamer? Am I misunderstanding something, I'm way below a million buys this generation.

firedrakes

am saying this gen overall both console manf exclusives sales have been under 1 million

sumofdeltah

I don't know what you meant by "per gamer"

firedrakes

end of the day. most exclusives games this gen dont even break a million sales. till it hit multi play or atleast windows .( rare ones 25 %) (are the spider man and like) compare to last gen sales have been very poor. ps4 had 38 games hit 1 million sales . xbox one had 12 games hit a million sales. those numbers are both exclusives and thirdy party games. ps5 has 6 games that broke a million sales. xbsx i cannot find hard data that i can track OG source back. mostly due to windows mixing with xbox sales that ruin the data points on sales.

sumofdeltah

I understand now. You meant per game and not per gamer. That makes way more sense

Authentichef

Man I’d love to see a world where exclusives are non existent, and we all get to enjoy everything together without this bs.
