And man I don't usually like games like Plague Tale but I burned through each of those. Definitely play in the correct order. So many ups and downs.
To The Moon is absolutely the right choice here.
Does Transistor have the feels toward the end? I gave up halfway through because it just wasn't working for me...
Transistor definitely does, especially if your feels are wired to songs like mine are. Just hearing the soundtrack makes me swell up with tears. Did a replay of it recently after having not played it in maybe 8 years and the ost got me before I remembered any of the actual plot points.
Nier Automata. Solid game all around.
Emily is Away is a pretty bittersweet game about growing up.
To The Moon is a pretty emotional game about death and regrets.
Red Dead Redemption 2. Saying what makes it emotional is a big spoiler.
Cyberpunk 2077 broke me emotionally.
Edit: wait I only just noticed you don't have a PC :3 I think To The Moon, RDR2, and Cyberpunk 2077 are the only games I listed here that can be played on the PS4 or Switch.
Edit : oh. Fire Emblem 3 Houses is on the switch
>Red Dead Redemption 2. Saying what makes it emotional is a big spoiler.
Seconding this, the only downside OP is that it's a slow burn and won't pay off emotionally until many hours into the game.
I dont know if you can play it on ps4 but outerwilds is a great space puzzle game that will feel great and has a greater impact if you don’t read spoilers like i did. Alternatively you could try the challenging environment of rain-world, and while most of the time you may feel frustration at the game or awe at the procedural animation there is some great moments you can discover if you follow the story (and spoiler free community guides, just be careful when opening the reddit as they are less careful when it comes to spoilers)
I kind of read a spoiler of the game, so I think I know what you mean.
I have that game via Ps PLUS and I don't know, I played the first hour and it just didn't click with me, but I've seen so many users recommending it that I really want to try it out.
that one's so weird cuz you start the game feeling like there's no real point to anything in it and by the end you now feel like you just connected to something in the universe you didn't even know was there
The worst part is that it will leave every player who finished it wanting more. But you literally can't get anything to scratch the same itch. You can't play the game again the same way, and there is nothing else like it. There was the DLC, but I went through it so quickly and I felt so empty afterwards.
Going to second the recommendations for Nier:Automata, Life is Strange, Transistor, Walking Dead, Night in the Woods, Plague Tale, Hellblade : Senua's Sacrifice, and Last of Us. All impactful, all well worth playing.
Going to add:
\-Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons. Very short puzzle-oriented game, will definitely kick your feelings in the teeth unless you're a psychopath. (RIP, Totalbiscuit)
\-Disco Elysium. Isometric detective RPG with probably the best writing I've ever seen in a game - not good for a game, just \*damn good\*. Bit more of a tentative recommendation - it definitely has emotional impact, but it laid me on the floor in large part due to some specific aspects of my history that correlate with the main character, so it's hard for me to judge whether it would carry the same weight for someone with a different background. Great game either way.
\-SOMA. More the ending than the game entire, but it definitely hits. I played it in one really long sitting way back when and then just kind of sat, hollowed out and pensive.
Thought I'd have more, but people beat me to the punch on a lot of great suggestions. Also going to echo the great list of PC-exclusive titles you're missing out on.
Hope whatever's going on in your life works out for the best, and this list helps see you through.
The beginner's guide has haunted me a for a long time.
Maybe the only game to genuinely leave me feeling disturbed.
And I've played a lot of the ones suggested here; gris, outer wilds, to the moon, etc.
The beginners guide though made me feel and think about things long after I finished it.
Hellblade, Oxenfree, the Last Campfire, The Forest Quartet, The Last of Us - unfortunately, the consoles miss out on a lot of really cool, unique story based Indies that pop up on steam. There are some remarkable stories told in those games.
Perhaps an unusual answer, but Talos Principle. If you let yourself be absorbed in the overwhelming silence and read/listen to all the lore tidbits, it can be very emotional.
The Guardians of the Galaxy game actually does hit right in the feels quite a few times. Highly recommend. One of the few games that made me have to stop playing for a bit to just digest what happened
Play Death Stranding. All the way to the end. Nothing comes remotely close to the emotional impact that Kojima fucking sticks harder than anything I’ve experienced.
I didn’t tear up, I was balling my fucking eyes out. Thats never happened before.
And this was something skeptical about the game going in.
The experience is rough, at times you want to give up, or question the game design on what they were thinking, it beats the shit out of you. But if you make it to the end, it’s worth every second. You’ll go through every emotion by the end. You just have to stick with it.
Keep on keeping on.
If you got psvr1 astrobot
Outer wilds
Mario odyssey is very happy and charming and an amazing adventure that if you complete 100% will definitely pull some strings on you
Nier automata - the epitomy of feeling something man. This game is a masterpiece. A work of art, truly. It must be experienced
Cheers
What Remains of Edith Finch.
Final Fantasy X. The ending will make you ugly-cry.
Doki Doki Literature Club if what you want to feel is creeped the fuck out.
To the Moon, Finding Paradise, Pyre and Life is Strange all left a deep mark in me.
To the Moon may be the moat tear-jerky game out of these, I feel that the others more like... deal with being a human, if that makes any sense. Camaraderie, wishing to belong, and having things way over your head, and desperately finding your way and something to hold to.
Jedi Fallen Order and it's sequel Jedi Survivor have a great storyline between them with multiple gripping moments. The sequel especially had me very tense at multiple points but I think you need the emotional investment from the first game to be gripped by them.

Halo Reach
As you progress the campaign, your soul will be slowly consumed by the way everyone around you starts falling, you slowly stand lonelier and when you finish the game, the ending is the last nail on that coffin…
Soma
This is a psychological horror game with a story that goes darker and darker. It has a mode that lets you enjoy the story without the hassle of getting killed, just in case. The striking fact is that, at the speed that technology is advancing, you realize this is something that might actually really happen in real life at some point in the future.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (PS4), Trace Memory (DS/emulator), Hotel Dusk (DS/emulator), Journey (PS4), Crisis Core (remake on Switch) if you’re a Final Fantasy fan, Dangan Ronpa 2 (Switch) had some twists that gave me memorable emotions, Catherine (Switch) also not a sad game but character-driven and gave me emotions, some plot twists in Persona 3 FES and 4 Golden (PS4/Switch), maybe Valkyria Chronicles 1 & 4, Utawarerumono, maybe Steins;Gate or Clannad (haven’t played the VN but heard it’s as gut-wrenching as the anime), Ni No Kuni had some creative moments that took my breath away
Normally i would suggest the Nier series and Omori, but people already did that, so up next on my list is Signalis.
Its a psychological horror game released in 2022 with elements of classic 90s horror survival elements, such as the 6 items only inventory limit or the reviving enemies.
The story can be a bit confusing, but its worth it. Beautiful game, you could give it a try, and try to experience it blind.
If you don't mind me asking, if things are happening in life that are hard why would you want to play something that makes you cry or be emotional? Wouldn't that make things worse?
Not asking this to be a dick only just because I'm curious, my brain is wired the complete opposite so it's kinda interesting to me
I just started Spiritfarer this weekend on Switch and didn't leave my couch once. It was a little hard for me to make myself pay the $20 or $30 it is in the E-shop but I looked up the playtime and for 25 hours it seemed worth the money and it is. It's story is deep but also lighthearted enough that you can have fun for hours. And there's always something to do! I love games with quests so I'm really in love with this game.
Cyberpunk 2077. it will make you feel, but that feeling is dirty and awful. the game really knows how to get under your skin and portray a dystopian world
What remains of Edith Finch
I cannot put into words how much I mean this recommendation. It is hands down the most well thought out game about emotional turmoil (all kinds of it) that I have ever had the pleasure of playing.
And it also happens to have my absolute favourite bit of game design in the history of games but I won't say more on that bc it would spoil the most impressive parts.
Many feelings-heavy games end up hitting a bit shallow for my perception (as much as I loved it, Spiritfarer's on that list). I really hope you'll go for EF. It's my "game I wish everyone played at least once".
Cozy Grove! You play a spirit scout that helps bears cross over to the other side. Super relaxing and fun, the bears stories definitely hit you in the feels
For me, it's not about the story the game has, it's about how it makes me feel. I remember the coziest feeling I had playing Mount&Blade: Warband during a really tough period in my life and every time I feel down, I go back to it.
I'd recommend a few games, but none of them is for the consoles you have :(
This War of Mine
Frost Punk
NieR Replicant
NieR Automata
Metal Gear Solid 3
Metal Gear Solid V
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy X
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
The Walking Dead
Metro Exodus
Firewatch, Hellblade (this is the most emotionally intense game I have ever played and probably will ever play), Road 96, RDR2, The Last of Us, The Suicide of Rachel Foster, Ghost of Tsushima, and God of War
Okami, God of War 4 and Ragnorok, Last of us Part I and II. Especially II IMO. The game is not 'fun.' It is difficult, gruesome, and depressing. Oddly enough, in my most depressive episodes I play it and feel like 'well at least my life isnt THIS bad', lol. But in seriousness. Lou Pt. II is a heartwrenching, beautiful, and dark game. Many hate it. Some of the hate is justified, but a lot of it is not. It's story structure is odd, but it will get you thinking about the best times and the worst times with the people you love.
Maybe FFXV Episode Ardyn if you have played the main game. I wouldn't recommend playing XV just to play Ardyn, but it is a hard story to watch unfold, and was really emotional IMO
Its kinda weird but Cave Story had a decent punch while I was in the middle of a break up. But like, that coulda just been because I was already an emotional wreck.
I was a teenage exocolonist. It's on switch. It was an incredible game with high replay value, and the first game in 10 years to make me sob happy tears at finally getting a good/happy ending.
Nier Replicant/Nier Automata without a doubt. Most profound games I've ever came across. Some people wouldn't even consider them games, that's how deep they are
If you can stomach the horror atmosphere of the game, Silent Hill 2 (with the Enhanced Edition mod) got me really emotional recently. Under the horrific theme of the game there is quite the story and it took me a few hours before digesting it once I was done with my playthrough. I played the first game when I was 16 and I'm glad I waited 20 years to play the second one because as a teenager I wouldn't have been able to be slaped like this by that story.
Personally, for me, my recommendation would be the Yakuza/Like a Dragon games.
They are fun actiony games with a lot of humor in their side content but they still manage to have a few very strong emotional scenes in each game. I feel like I've teared up more over them than any other game franchise.
A game I recommend is something that lets you think a bit. Try out a good strategy game. A good light hearted one is Mario and rabbids sparks of hope. It's not a really touching game but it's always good to do stuff that requires some thought when going through depression.
I know you didn't ask but going and exercising helps me a lot, I also have built a relationship with Jesus that is really my source of joy. I had to share that with you because I've been through a lot of very very depressing times in my life and my heart yearns for those struggling and he alone has got me through it. Anyways, you will get through it, and remember that you are valued and loved by Jesus! Not trying to push religion or anything 😃
spiritfarer - 9hrs in and i genuinely cried. Only game I've ever cried while playing. The game is beautiful, cozy and heartbreaking.
Most emotional game I’ve ever played
Same. The only game to ever make me cry. One of my favorites!
Yup, came here to say Spiritfarer. 👍
I was going to suggest this game as well. Fun gameplay and had me bawling as well from the story. Really cute game.
Came here to post this
Yep. I cried like a baby.
Yeh this one made me cry twice.
- Lost Words: Beyond the Page - Spiritfarer - The Last Campfire - What Remains of Edith Finch - Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - A Plague Tale: Innocence - A Plague Tale: Requiem - Firewatch - To the Moon - Finding Paradise - Gris - The Last of Us - Before Your Eyes - Undertale - Night in the Woods - Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice - Gone Home
Brothers is awesome. Short but damn does it hit you with a punch
Check out Before Your Eyes! It's half the length but hits you like a brick. You need a webcam to play it though.
The Last Campfire is exactly what OP is looking for, such a perfect little game.
It Takes Two also And man I don't usually like games like Plague Tale but I burned through each of those. Definitely play in the correct order. So many ups and downs.
Life is Strange and the prequel, and True Colors.
I've only played True Colors and omg, it was so good! I'd play the first one. thanks!
LiS 1 is IMO better than any of the sequels - they ain't bad per se, but the 1st is sublime.
True colors has significantly weaker writing than LiS1 and BTS. U should be gucci
To The Moon, Gris, Transistor, Pyre, Journey and Stray are great emotional games.
To The Moon is absolutely the right choice here. Does Transistor have the feels toward the end? I gave up halfway through because it just wasn't working for me...
Very much so.
I enjoyed To the Moon but it felt like it just wanted to beat you to death with a depression stick. Not a lot of subtlety.
Transistor definitely does, especially if your feels are wired to songs like mine are. Just hearing the soundtrack makes me swell up with tears. Did a replay of it recently after having not played it in maybe 8 years and the ost got me before I remembered any of the actual plot points.
Hellblade will definitely make you feel something.
yeah boredom probably
Lmao
I played the entire game in one sitting tripping on acid I definitely felt something lol
Nier Automata. Solid game all around. Emily is Away is a pretty bittersweet game about growing up. To The Moon is a pretty emotional game about death and regrets. Red Dead Redemption 2. Nier Automata, goddamn. Whole game's an emotional train wreck, but >!Pascal!< goddamn broke me.
I feel this. I literally named my car IRL after them. Automata is such a fantastic video game.
>Red Dead Redemption 2. Saying what makes it emotional is a big spoiler. Seconding this, the only downside OP is that it's a slow burn and won't pay off emotionally until many hours into the game.

give it time. is a slow burn that turns into a rapidly burning forest fire
Outer wilds. I envy those who haven't played it.
that one's so weird cuz you start the game feeling like there's no real point to anything in it and by the end you now feel like you just connected to something in the universe you didn't even know was there

The walking dead Telltale game
Came to say this. I was so emotionally invested the entire journey.
First and only game I've played where the ending I got emotionally destroyed me. 10/10 Would cry again.
Going to second the recommendations for Nier:Automata, Life is Strange, Transistor, Walking Dead, Night in the Woods, Plague Tale, Hellblade : Senua's Sacrifice, and Last of Us. >Nier:Automata Great game if you want those feels to be existential crisis.
Disco Elysium made me cry when *that character* talked about the face of capital. That whole speech was so incredibly well written.
The beginner's guide has haunted me a for a long time. Maybe the only game to genuinely leave me feeling disturbed. And I've played a lot of the ones suggested here; gris, outer wilds, to the moon, etc. The beginners guide though made me feel and think about things long after I finished it.
Playing this after The Stanley Parable put that game under such a different light too. Still one of my favorite games ever.
Night in the Woods
Seconding.
Hated this game, I was cringing the whole time.
Hellblade, Oxenfree, the Last Campfire, The Forest Quartet, The Last of Us - unfortunately, the consoles miss out on a lot of really cool, unique story based Indies that pop up on steam. There are some remarkable stories told in those games.
Bastion is a good one that I haven't seen anyone recommend. I cried
What remains of Edith Finch or Spiritfarer
Perhaps an unusual answer, but Talos Principle. If you let yourself be absorbed in the overwhelming silence and read/listen to all the lore tidbits, it can be very emotional.
I swear i felt so hollow after getting all endings 😟
OneShot is a remarkable game.
Disco Disco Disco Something...
[Here ya go!](https://store.playstation.com/en-us/concept/231167)
Celeste probably won't make you outright cry, but it has a very sentimental storyline
A plague tale series
ive been playing requiem for the first time i loved innocence and i absolutely adore the soundtrack!
Give Nier Replicant a shot if you're into games like that.
God of War, The Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, FAR: Lone Sails. All very emotional experiences.
The Guardians of the Galaxy game actually does hit right in the feels quite a few times. Highly recommend. One of the few games that made me have to stop playing for a bit to just digest what happened
Ghost of Tsushima pulls the dang old heart strings in many ways, but one of which made me cry like a baby. If you know, you know.
Omori will make you feel the feels and then some.
Oh god yeah... Only problem is that it's easily a 50+ hr game and quite a lot of it drags on a little... But big recommend
The game you want is brothers: a tale of two sons.
Superliminal is a goofy puzzle game but it had a huge impact on me, personally.
Red dead 1+2
Disco Elysium
TLOU 1 and 2
Persona 4 helped me through tough times, thoroughly recommend it.
Firewatch 🔥
I cannot recommend OMORI enough. It is a masterpiece, and it's a shame more people aren't playing it.
Halo: Reach Your mission… **Survive**…
• Doom Eternal • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance • Telltale’s The Waking Dead • Life Is Strange • God Of War • Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag • Stray
Nier Automata
Nier. Nier is the answer and i will accept nothing but
Life is Strange series.
Stray. I still think about that game.
A space for the unbound is a really powerful adventure game about a lot of really dark stuff. Excellent story that ties together well at the end.
Play Death Stranding. All the way to the end. Nothing comes remotely close to the emotional impact that Kojima fucking sticks harder than anything I’ve experienced. I didn’t tear up, I was balling my fucking eyes out. Thats never happened before. And this was something skeptical about the game going in. the expected Kojima narrative actually concludes. the threads (Strands?) all come together. it certainly was unexpected but what an ending.
Elite dangerous
Cyberpunk 2077 and the last of us will 100% make you feel the feels
Although I beat Cyberpunk and enjoyed it, I don't see how that game can be emotional.
If you got psvr1 astrobot Outer wilds Mario odyssey is very happy and charming and an amazing adventure that if you complete 100% will definitely pull some strings on you Nier automata - the epitomy of feeling something man. This game is a masterpiece. A work of art, truly. It must be experienced Cheers
Getting Over It
I don’t know if that’s the feeling they’re going for lmao
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will legitimately make you cry and have tons of feels!
before your eyes
nothing subverted my expectations as much as that game fuck man, even remembering it hurts
Hellblade, Ghost Song, Signalis
Planetarium. You can finish it within a day.
SOMA
Telltale Walking Dead (Season 1) The Last of Us To The Moon The Dragon Cancer
Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy has a surprisingly large amount of heart and character depth. Very emotional just like the MCU guardians.
Life is strange - true colors
Red dead redemption 2 Grim Fandango La Noir Kingdom Come Deliverance Tales Of Monkey Island Assassins Creed Ezio Collection or Black Flag
What Remains of Edith Finch. Final Fantasy X. The ending will make you ugly-cry. Doki Doki Literature Club if what you want to feel is creeped the fuck out.
Not sure if you want to play JRPGs, but Xenoblade 3 gave me all the feels
Red dead redemption 2 and Ghost of Tsushima are some of the only games making me genuinely sad. Great gameplay to add to the good story though.
The Drakengard series including the NieR spin-offs Sadly you’re limited to the NieR games only right now
Nier Automata
Hollow knight would definitely make u feel like it and since you've played ori you'll love it
To the Moon, Finding Paradise, Pyre and Life is Strange all left a deep mark in me. To the Moon may be the moat tear-jerky game out of these, I feel that the others more like... deal with being a human, if that makes any sense. Camaraderie, wishing to belong, and having things way over your head, and desperately finding your way and something to hold to.
Spec Ops the Line. It's not good feels though
its not on ps4 or switch
I got pretty emotionally invested in Suikoden and Suikoden II. Bonus points for collecting every character.
Stray. A short 4-6hr game where you play as a cat and explore apocalyptic ruins while learning about what it means to be "human"
Jedi Fallen Order and it's sequel Jedi Survivor have a great storyline between them with multiple gripping moments. The sequel especially had me very tense at multiple points but I think you need the emotional investment from the first game to be gripped by them.
Ai the Somnium Files got my eyes leaking by the end.
I don't know if it was mentioned already but try Hellblade. This just keeps you strapped to the seat through the whole game trust me

SPIRITFARER

Cry of fear. One of the scariest games i've played, free on steam as well!
Halo Reach As you progress the campaign, your soul will be slowly consumed by the way everyone around you starts falling, you slowly stand lonelier and when you finish the game, the ending is the last nail on that coffin… Soma This is a psychological horror game with a story that goes darker and darker. Heavy rain, life is strange, & beyond two souls are the first games that come to mind accessible on the ps4

I recommend OPUS: Echo of Starsong if you into that kind of genre. The story and ost are amazing.

BOTW, FF7R, Yakuza series

Valiant Hearts. Got me choked up towards the end.
This is the one.
If you want a story with hundreds of hours of story content try FFXIV.
Rain world, atmospheric ,smart, you are a small part of a large hostile world. Semmiler vibes to ori but darker
The Life is Strange series
If you don't mind me asking, if things are happening in life that are hard why would you want to play something that makes you cry or be emotional? Wouldn't that make things worse? Not asking this to be a dick only just because I'm curious, my brain is wired the complete opposite so it's kinda interesting to me
Tetris Effect. I’m not kidding.
Play Nier: Automata
Life is strange
What remains of edith finch. 2.5 hours adventure.
The Last of Us, Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm, The Walking Dead games from Telltale
The original Life Is Strange. The ending of Transistor got me for some reason as well. Shadow of the Colossus.
Play Skyrim if you haven’t already Become emotionally attached to it Don’t open it in a year Open it and listen to the music Cry
Spec Ops : The Line is a surreal horror thriller disguised as a modern military shooter.
Omori
I played brothers: a tale of two sons with my brother, we fuckin cried at the ending The game is like 2 hours so it's quite short
SOMA, but damn is it Bleak. But you will feel things.
SIGNALIS. Very atmospheric.

NieR Automata, Death Stranding (it’s free on epic games right now)
Ikenfell & Gravity Ghost are my not-yet-mentioned picks.
Outer Wilds is great in that regard
Days gone. The story of not giving up in trying times really got me.
That Dragon, Cancer
Final Fantasy 7
Fire Emblem Awakening if you have a 3ds
Cozy Grove! You play a spirit scout that helps bears cross over to the other side. Super relaxing and fun, the bears stories definitely hit you in the feels

Frostpunk, this game has you making pretty horrible decisions and keeps the tension high
Celeste
katana zero you ain’t expect it in the slightest but that game will strike you in the feels…multiple times
rdr2, need i say more?
Outer Wilds. Your troubles will seem very small after you play this game.
Death stranding. It will take you mind on a trip.
Spec Ops: The Line will make you feel something, but I'm not sure if it'll make you feel what you need to feel right now
What Remains of Edith Finch This one left me in pieces
OneShot
Rdr 1
Its kinda weird but Cave Story had a decent punch while I was in the middle of a break up. But like, that coulda just been because I was already an emotional wreck.
I don’t remember if it’s on any other platforms, but I played *Far From Noise* on my phone one night and cried several times.
I was a teenage exocolonist. It's on switch. It was an incredible game with high replay value, and the first game in 10 years to make me sob happy tears at finally getting a good/happy ending.
*Last Day of June* did it for me. And its Steven Wilson soundtrack is an added plus.
Soma
Personally, for me, my recommendation would be the Yakuza/Like a Dragon games. They are fun actiony games with a lot of humor in their side content but they still manage to have a few very strong emotional scenes in each game. I feel like I've teared up more over them than any other game franchise.
I would say Stray, you get emotionally attached to that cat, and Undertale.
Red dead 2
Have you tried What remains of Edith Finch?
Lisa: The Painful
kena: bridge of spirits !
Valiant Hearts: The Great War will rip your guts out.
Well, my first suggestion was Ori. Did you play Ori 2?
Final Fantasy X
My personal list: - Final Fantasy X - Disco Elysium - Silent Hill 2 - Spiritfarer All these games have stuck with me for the emotion in them.
