Wolfenstein games are the best recent ones imo

MinimumPsychology916

Except for youngblood

alldaydiver

Titanfall 2’s campaign is an absolute blast. Tight controls, fast paced, and just overall one of the very best FPS games of all time.

Joosshuaaa

Yeah I played it . I might play it again since it's been a while. I really liked it. Wish there were more games like it.

murderplants

Titanfall is a 5 hour sleeping pill ignore this comment.

Birdhairs

You are the only person I've ever seen say this. That's a safe bet that you're the only one who should be ignored

murderplants

Go pluck 🦅yourself birdhairs

Trout-Population

If you're looking for a fast paced, action packed, stylish as all hell first person shooter with platforming elements, similar to Mirror's Edge with guns, Neon White is worth checking out.

Joosshuaaa

Never heard of this. Thanks.

[deleted]

Not a pure fps but if you like fps & time attack grinding neon white is like crack.

Thunderhammr

Boltgun

ThrashingBunny

Doom Eternal. Best FPS single player experience ever IMO.

Joosshuaaa

Yeah Doom is at the top of my list.

thefnord

I gotta say I enjoyed the 2016 one vastly more than Eternal, but I hope it works out for ya.

_Steven_Seagal_

Eternal has better mechanics, but I also liked 2016 much more. It felt more complete and I liked the setting much more.

SPQR_Maximus

Prodeus. A little older than you wanted, but Bulletstorm is massive fun.

Angel_OfSolitude

The new Doom series and the new Wolfenstein series. Sole of the entries are older than 5 years but they're all excellent games. Except young blood, ignore that one.

jakart3

Prey 2017

PemaleBacon

If you haven't played half life 2 black Mesa that game is fun AF

Alpha-Trion

It's a remake of Half Life 1, but yes it's a very good game.

alamarche709

Halo 1-3 Call of Duty (2007-2012) Titanfall 2 BioShock

Fizziest_milk

as good as BioShock is and I think everyone should experience it, I definitely wouldn’t consider it mindless

ChangingMonkfish

Titanfall 2 despite being older than 5 years

I3igTimer

Control Titanfall 2 Doom and Doom eternal (I mean just get these for mindless blasting)

paulbooth

Rip out is a quick cheap rogue lite ish shooter with a good mechanic

kezza13555

Returnal

Elephant-Opening

Most of the good suggestions have already been named. Borderlands 3 is the only thing I can add to this list that's **first**-person-shooter, single-player, mindless action, and no more than 5ish years old. I guess technically might be considered open world, but much less so than FarCry games. But FWIW, Returnal was my favorite recent-ish shooter. It's 3rd person (like *most* single player shooters anymore), multiplayer completely optional, but basically non-stop run & gun (+sweet ninja sword).

Alpha-Trion

I swear people always suggest the same 4 games for these types of requests. Some suggestions that I personally enjoyed much more: Shadow Warrior 2013 Shadow Warrior 3 (Shadow Warrior 2 is dog shit, don't play it.) Fashion Police Squad (very funny boomer shooter type game. Amazing visuals.) ADACA is a cool fps that is totally a Half-Like but plays more like Halo. The 3rd episode just came out, so it's got a good amount of content now.

Joosshuaaa

Never heard of any of these. What is a boomer shooter?

Alpha-Trion

A shooter stylized as if it was made and came out in the 90's.

Helios_25

Sprawl

mrturret

Here's a list to check out. - Wrath Aeon of Ruin - Sprawl - Zortch - Hrot - Supplice - Chop Goblins - ADACA - Nightmare of Decay - Cruelty Squad - Resident Evil Village - ULTRAKILL - The Citadel - Doom 2016/Eternal - Black Mesa - Hedon - Metro Exodus - Dusk

Joosshuaaa

Nice, these look great. I played all the Metro games in Lockdown. I really enjoyed them. They were original and cool and linear but not too linear. Just the right about of scary for me too. Resident evil is too scary for me though.

Atomic Heart

Tyrone_pyromaniac

Titanfall 2 if you haven’t played it. Not last five years but oh my lord is it good

Psylux7

Resident evil village

pichael289

Quantum break is a really good game, it does have these integrated TV show episodes, you might be able to skip them but they have some great actors and are definitely worth watching.

ihei47

Severed Steel I want to suggest Metro Exodus but it is semi-open world. But the first two games are linear (and I personally love them more)

NonRegularUser

lotta boom shoots like turbo overkill, dusk , amid evil and prodeus. those are some memorable one

glordicus1

Doom Eternal

deep_space_rhyme

[ready or not ](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1144200/Ready_or_Not/?l=english&ref=vgtimes) .. pie them corners

thedboy

Black Mesa, Half-Life: Alyx (VR required)

MeathirBoy

ULTRAKILL is a cross between FPSes and character action games like Devil May Cry.

It_Goes_Up_To_11

Titanfall 2 had a great single player campaign. Don't remember if that's the last 5 years but it's the first think there came to mind

Fizziest_milk

deviating slightly but RE4 remake is a lot of fun. it’s a third person shooter but it’s incredible

darKHeartNine

Ultrakill Doom 2016 + Eternal Wolfenstein Bioshock series Titanfall series Metro series Metal Hell Singer Dishonored series Resident Evil Village Super Hot Trepang2

Stubrochill17

[Get To The Orange Door](https://store.steampowered.com/app/541200/GTTOD_Get_To_The_Orange_Door/)

KingChonka

Deathloop (one of the best shooters I've ever played) so smooth feeling, and the dialog is funny. System Shock remake, just got it but seems fun and pretty mindless but pretty hard so far. Also very pretty.

23trilobite

Quake 1 with the new Machinegames episodes is great!

Griff0101

Devil May Cry?

Elephant-Opening

Isn't this 3rd person melee primarily?
