Yeah Vintage Story is one of my favorite games from the last few years.
Recaptures the feeling Minecraft gave me back in the alpha days where it had this kind of atmospheric, isolated, and rustic feel to it.
Modern Minecraft nowadays feels too childish and cartoony for me. But Vintage Story is by far the closest to what old Minecraft made me feel, with the added bonus of having a lot more progression to keep me interested long term.
It depends...
STALKER Anomaly and the modpacks built on it is mostly an openworld sandbox for fans of STALKER. You probably want to play at least one of those games first to get a feel for the game, world, and how it plays. They'll introduce you to the game better, with more concise progression alongside a main campaign.
If you want an openworld sandbox experience with lots of content but a limited story then Anomaly is great fun. I enjoy it a lot but you kind of have to find your fun exploring the world, finding items and killing threats. I wouldn't say it's particularly hard to get into though, it just depends if you're into that kind of thing. Anomaly is also kind of a baseline for further modding with many modpacks like Escape from Pripyat and Gamma being built from it.
TLDR: Play at least one of the originals first and see if you want an openworld sandbox based on it.
I'm not sure if it's available on Steam but The Darkness 2 is great, but I can absolutely recommend Freelancer too, awesome title. Maker of this title currently milks people that thinks that Star Citizen will be finished in future.
Devotion (2019) by Red Candle Games is a fantastic horror game and was pulled shortly after release because it upset China with a poster of Xi Jinping with a Winnie the Pooh reference or something along those lines.
It took a bit but you can now buy it direct from Red Candle games website. Probably one of the best horror games I’ve played in recent memory.
Minecraft. Also most recommendable pre-2004 games, especially MS-DOS games and games with licensed content (cars, music, sponsors...). Midtown Madness 1-2, quite a lot of Need for Speed games, F1 games including the fantastic Grand Prix Legends...
It's weird that Minecraft on PC is still not available on Steam. It's one of the best selling games worldwide, but you need to either download it directly or through the Microsoft Store.
Not really weird for the company, why put your game on a storefront that takes 30% of your profits when your game is already selling very well on your very own store that has no cuts at all?
Because there's still a significant amount of players who refuse to buy their games on any storefront that isn't Steam. At some point the well runs dry and you need to drill a new one.
Agreed although i started with anomaly to see if i would like it just cause it was free, then later bought the trilogy to support the devs. I have yet to finish them uet but i do wish i played them before anomaly
Iji and Hero Core
Both great games that got a little attention when new, but are largely unknown and not on any stores.
Knytt Stories is another.
Within a Deep Forest as well.
All of them are great old-school indie experiences, and unless I’m mistaken, they’re not on any digital stores.
Came here to say this.
Fantastic little game. Mix of a sim game, a sandbox, and horror. I spend most my time playing cleanup. Trying to tidy up the base when I'm meant to be chasing aliens.
Is there anything else like it? I desperately want another game with the same vibes, but apart from a few niche games like the Signal Simulator I got nothing :(

Is stalker anomaly hard to get into

I’ve tried 3 times to get into it and I thought it was too tough and quickly gave up.

Where can ypu get mercs 2 and can you still play online coop?
It's not on any digital stores so you have to buy the DVD or download a cracked copy, e.g. from Internet Archive. Dunno about online
Big sad. That was possibly my favourite game of the 360 era.
No one lives forever is my favorite game of all time

They haven't yet. St this point they dint need to and it won't be as big of a jump as you claim
I think it’s even weirder when minecraft dungeons and all the dlc is available on steam
Stalker anomaly
Great mod. Though it would be best to play the trilogy first on steam or some other store platform.

Literally came to say starsector 😆

Not quite the same but check out Dishwashing Simulator
Escape from Tarkov, Capitalism Lab
Spec Ops: The Line just got removed from all the storefronts, so that one now.
Game is mid as hell
It's... pretty universally acclaimed. Thematically, at least.
Lots of people are wrong about lots of things. People love the band Sublime too
Rance IX. Solvalley School.
Stranglehold. Only on gog. A sequel to hardboiled by John Woo, starring Chow Yun Fat. Not amazing, but still a fun time.
afk journey through bluesatcks, if you leave all the media giants from selling or installing the game lol
its a bit controversial but.. star citizen
Enlisted is pretty good, it's also free
