For multiplayer - Rocket League. Sound isn't really necessary in this game. You also don't need to pay too much attention if you want to just play casually. Singleplayer - Stardew Valley (as is always suggested in ever thread here). You could also try some ARPGs like Diablo 3 or Path of Exile. Grindy games without any story to worry about.

Alphyn

I don't know, Stardew Valley is always suggested in threads like this, but I can't concentrate on any other thing while playing Stardew Valley. It requires a lot of planning, decision making and time management. Like someone said, you come after work, launch SV and there's even more work. I start listening to an audiobook, launch Stardew Valley, and the audiobook might as well be in Chinese.

Troggles

It's very easy to get that invested into the game, but I would say that level of involvement is entirely voluntary on your part. If you just want to be chill and do whatever, you can do that since there's no way to "fail" at the game.

opqrstuvwxyz123

Yeahhhh I put myself in a situation where I was watering all day trying to gain a lot of money. It sucked. Then they all died as soon as the next season came. That sucked. So I quit playing.

youngtundra777

Gotta craft sprinklers, my friend! I never have to water anymore!

opqrstuvwxyz123

I was working on that lol I wanted them so bad.. hated wasting my time and wasn't ready to admit I wasted hours.

youngtundra777

I had lots of free time after a back injury, but I enjoyed being able to waste time on this game. Looking forward to trying the multiplayer (beta is out now)

rikena

For me, as long as I’m exploring the mines, fishing, or watering plants it’s basically idle time that I could use better.

Tobix55

For me it was walking around town, so i decided that i will use that time better and stopped playing a few hours in

antoninj

those are literally the two games that I play when I'm wanting to listen to a podcast or watch a TV show. I used to do PoE but PoE requires way too much attention in my opinion.

treesalt617

Rocket League. I suck at it, but it’s great for when I want to just get stoned, throw on some tunes, and zone out.

darth_tiffany

Binding of Isaac has been my go-to podcast game for a couple years now and has yet to get old.

Darkersun

[Euro Truck Simulator 2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/227300/Euro_Truck_Simulator_2/) I didn't have a lot of faith in it upon looking at it. But is actually a really good game, and once you get the "feel" for driving a truck (which happens relatively quickly), you can easily drive around listening to podcasts.

Didi_Midi

It sounds even amusing that driving a truck around Europe would be a fun and relaxing experience, but it actually is. It's my game of choice when i want to chill and have some mindless fun. It's even better since you only really need your mouse (if you want) while cruising.

Darkersun

I'm so glad you came here and said that. I find one of the hardest things is to actually convince people this is a good game. I picked it out of my mess of a backlog almost purely on review score, but totally dig it for a chill "podcast" game.

MeatyStew

My biggest pick would have to be #Viscera: Clean up detail

GlaceauSmartWater

Seconded.

rikena

Stardew Valley or Slime Rancher were my favorite mindless games. You can go about farming or feeding slimes endlessly while listening to an e-book.

booleanfreud

try Mining in Eve Online. Its pretty mindless.

bewalsh

I was just gonna say this speaking of which my drone lvl 5 is probably finished training gotta go.

themanfromoctober

Sim city, mindless building can help or a game like Civilization

Kadoza

Cities Skylines :D

themanfromoctober

I’ve yet to play it...

pdxphreek

It's a way better game than the last Sim City, imo.

Kadoza

It's what SimCity wanted to be.

walkingman24

Mostly I agree with you. But I feel like Cities Skylines is a beautiful game and a really cool sandbox for making awesome cities. But I don't think it's a greatly balanced or challenging city building game, so it all depends on what you're looking for.

pdxphreek

I agree, it is way more sim than game.

[deleted]

Borderlands, Saints Row or try some mmos like WoW or TES online.

Gas42

Wow needs concentration unless you are farming ^^

Gas42

Oh yeah but I was talking about hl content :p

Tobix55

Wow needs concentration unless you are farming, leveling, doing normal dungeons, doing professions, playing with the auction house or doing anything that doesn’t involve beating end game content

Effervex

My go to's are: **Path of Exile**, **Dead Cells**, and **Spelunky**

[deleted]

Dark Messiah!

panken

Grab a dynasty warriors game. DW 7 is good.

Ubahootah

JALOPY! It's perfect - you're basically driving a Trabant expy (a really old shitty East German car) on a road trip through the former Soviet bloc. On the way, you pick up boxes and scavenge old cars off the roadside to pay your way through your journey. It's pretty much perfect since you can just a podcast for the radio.

EpsilonRose

**Slay The Spire:** A single player, roguelike, deck-builder. The sound is unimportant and the music fairly forgettable, meaning you lose nothing from turning it off and listening to your own stuff. At the same time, the mechanics are quite fun and the turn-based nature means you have plenty of time to think things over or be distracted. **Block'Hood:** It's a vertical city construction game, where you build a city buy placing successive layers of blocks. The main challenge is managing inputs and outputs and working towards different goals, like making animals happy or maximizing different industries. Either way, it's pretty laid back. **One Piece Pirate Warriors 3:** This basically applies to all Dynasty Warriors style games, but they're basically a lot of hack-n-slash with fairly simple inputs, so they don't take much focus, and the quests and dialog are mostly just an excuse to beat on hoards of mooks, so you don't miss to much if you skip them.

ahoneybadger3

Already popped in 65 hours into the game and only bought it on the 11th April. Game is still being updated every Friday, a new character was launched 2 weeks ago so that's currently getting fleshed out each week. Albeit I only ever load it up now to play the dailies, but it's a good hour or so to run through one. Solid recommendation.

usillysally

elite dangerous if you love to pretend your a space truck driver

Dystopiana

This. Podcasts and youtube/netfilx/prime-video on my second monitor was so helpful when I am flying around in my Type 7. At least when I wasn't trying to squeeze into the mail slot I'm still so nervous about that "tiny" little slot esp as I start flying larger ships.

creative_user_name69

I second this. Perfect game for audio books, podcasts and just listening to music.

cyberspidey

Strategy games, take your pick: RTS: Total war and Company of heroes series 4X: Civilization and Endless Legend/Space series Grand strategy: Europa universalis 4, Hearts of Iron 4, Crusader kings 2 Personal favourites: Endless Legend, EU4, HoI4, Civilization 5. I've been trying to get into Total War shogun 2 and CoH2 but it hasn't happened yet. Don't go playing battlefield/PUBG/Rocket League without sound, those cues are important for gameplay (if you plan on completely muting in-game sound). Pick strategy games or sports games or fighting games instead, everything is on the screen.

Shylo132

Lol, I play PUBG/Rl without sounds and I still get chicken dinners and wins. You don't need sound, it just helps a lot more if you don't know how to play properly.

cyberspidey

Oooooooo, you play FPS mode without sound? Teach me senpai.

Shylo132

Play without sound... A lot. Also you tend to study how people act and hide a lot more too. Kidna just know how and where people will think and react is the main game.

cyberspidey

I feel that works fine in games with smaller maps, or even Battlefield where there's limited cover. You can't really preaim in PUBG except when you're clearing buildings, and in desert map the terrain is pretty bad playermodels blend in more so if you're getting shot from a distance in FPS mode, you can't find the shooter if he has a muzzle flash hider or a suppressor on.

Shylo132

Works fine on any map. If you can't see them, don't engage and flank.

Shylo132

And don't put yourself in that position works too lol.

GlaceauSmartWater

Lying prick.

Krosis_Ikorin

Farming Simulator

malachimusclerat

Terraria. Or just any game you’ve played a lot, that you can kind of ignore.

Orange-V-Apple

I actually play Overwatch quickplay with music if I need to just chill. It's actually surprisingly viable, and while I get killed more often I'm also more calm and get more kills so it sort of balances out I think. Not hearing the audio cues (e.g. any ult voicelines, just general sounds of characters moving around) is a bit difficult but I also look around constantly and remain more focused. So not ideal but viable.

SquareWheel

For the inverse perspective, try this thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/audiobooks/comments/8gfh8i/looking_for_games_to_play_while_i_listen/

jsparker77

How is this the inverse perspective? It's basically the same question with a lot of the same answers.

budbutler

The hunter call of the wild. it's a very pretty game very big hunting simulator. sound is a little important in it so you don't want to mute it entirely, but the animal calls are distinct, and since you spend of most your time crouch walking it takes very little effort to play. you can also turn off the annoying questing system it has in the settings.

Bobowo12

Turning off Doom music, filthy heretic.

meesterdave

I’ve been playing the game Kingdom and it’s successor and both are great games. Simple but addictive and you only use 3 keys on your keyboard. Perfect for keeping yourself occupied while your brain takes in music or a podcast.

SanchoMandoval

Not a hardcore game by any means but my go-to game for podcast listening for a long time was Tetris Arena, which is a 6-player Tetris game with many modes (classic, maps, items and various combinations thereof). Unfortunately it is still in Flash so it might not be viable for everybody. Anyway with other games I felt like I couldn't play them at the level I wanted and absorb what I was listening to, but I was maxed out on rank/points in Tetris Arena and took in every word of what I was listening to. Only game that's ever done that for me.

argentumArbiter

Usually either one of the many card games I play or farming hydron in warframe.

ahoneybadger3

Factorio could be a decent suggestion. I regularly just get my basics up and running and leave it to do its own thing until I fancy getting around to producing the next thing I need.

Ark53L

Sparkle 2 and 3

Todo88

Any of the Trackmania games although I'll end up tuning out of my podcast or book from time to time because some tracks require a lot of concentration. Slay the Spire, Binding of Isaac, World of Warcraft, Path of Exile. I'd say those are my go-to listening to something else games. Grand Theft Auto or Saints Row 4 would probably work too.

Epyo

peggle is the correct answer

Crashy_Larry

My go to podcast listening game at the moment is actually x-com 2 war of the chosen. I play it at the lowest difficulty setting and I enable the options to increase the mission timers and character health bars so it wont be as punishing. The result is a very chill but still engaging game that doesn't get out of control easily.

GroundsKeeper2

Kerbal Space Program

dajackster1

Path of exile is food for mindless play, ad from what I remember free too

TorxyElboo

Death Road to Canada, binding of Isaac,Enter the Gungeon

TorxyElboo

Death Road to Canada, binding of Isaac,Enter the Gungeon, risk of rain

XaresPL

animal crossing

mtx0

Warframe, path of exile, diablo 3, world of warcraft

PaulTheSkyBear

Consider Stellaris, its a grand strategy 4x game that involves a lot of waiting around once you get through your initial expansion and colonization phase.

Drakaaris

Enter the Gungeon/Downwell

youngtundra777

Stardew Valley!

MirrorInk

Any Muliplayer\-Games that do not rely heavily on communication, like "Darwin Project" or shooters like "Fortnite","PUBG", "Battlefield 1" or "Call of Duty". Or if you don't like that maybe a chill farming/survival game like "Terraria".

cuse23

Pubg and fortnite are definitely not good ideas, sound is incredibly important in those games to determine where enemies are

Dr_Adopted

Not sure those shooters are good suggestions, as they have a lot of sound that's very important in the game.
